Trouble With Calendar Control For Datetime Parameter
May 4, 2007
I'm creating a report with a Datetime parameter. There's no available values, so the calendar control comes out automatically when I run/preview the report. Now, when I select the date in my calendar control, say for example I select 2/5/07 (2nd of May) and run the report, it gives me data from 5th of Feb. Can anyone help me with this date format problem ???
Not sure if it's related to my problem, I did edit the language tag in the XML source code of my report to have en-AU so that the dates field is showing in the correct dd/mm/yyyy format.

Hello,
We have noticed that the calendar months in the Pop-Up Calendar option, based upon month word length, will shift in size and this will cause the left and right arrows to shift. For example, 'May' is much shorter than 'December'.
My user is complaining because she cannot quickly move from one month to another without having to reposition the mouse over the navigation arrow.
Is the Calendar feature working as designed?
Thank you,

We have developed several reports using VS 2005 and deployed them to our SQL 2005 reporting server. As most of our reports use date parameters we would like to incorporate a calendar control to allow users to select their date range as opposed to typing them in. I have done some reseach online but can only find vague references on how to do this. Has anyone out there been able to successfully deploy a calendar control onto an SQL report? Thanks!

Hello,
Please, help with following issues.
I have 3 parameters in the report. When user selects 1st one from dataset, one of the fields gives me object creation date. Calendar control is supposed to be filtered to allow users select the dates greater than selected one.
How can I filter (disable dates in) calendar control?
Any suggestion/comment highly appreciated

SSRS 2005-
The Calendar control that is used to select dates on a parameterized report that runs on a report server has been disabled for Safari. Users must type the dates that they want to use. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156511.aspx
Does anyone know the reason why this was disabled? Will/Can it be enabled? I have clients that desire this functionality. How do I "Make a Suggestion" for the next release?
Thanks!

Hi,I m trying to implement a calendar, where you can select certain dates and view list of events for that day. The list is generated from database. I found a script on the web that is quite similar to what i want to achieve. I tried to run this script, however I get an exeption saying:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. .... error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)This is the code:SqlConnection mycn; SqlDataAdapter myda; DataSet ds = new DataSet(); DataSet dsSelDate; String strConn; private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { // Put user code to initialize the page here strConn = "Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=pubs"; mycn = new SqlConnection(strConn); myda = new SqlDataAdapter("Select * FROM EventsTable", mycn); myda.Fill(ds, "Table"); //This where I get the exeption } protected void CalendarDRender(object sender, System.Web.UI.WebControls.DayRenderEventArgs e) { // If the month is CurrentMonth if (!e.Day.IsOtherMonth) { foreach (DataRow dr in ds.Tables[0].Rows) { if ((dr["EventDate"].ToString() != DBNull.Value.ToString())) { DateTime dtEvent = (DateTime)dr["EventDate"]; if (dtEvent.Equals(e.Day.Date)) { e.Cell.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.PaleVioletRed; } } } } //If the month is not CurrentMonth then hide the Dates else { e.Cell.Text = ""; } } private void Calendar1_SelectionChanged(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { myda = new SqlDataAdapter("Select * from EventsTable where EventDate='" + Calendar1.SelectedDate.ToString() + "'", mycn); dsSelDate = new DataSet(); myda.Fill(dsSelDate, "AllTables"); if (dsSelDate.Tables[0].Rows.Count == 0) { DataGrid1.Visible = false; } else { DataGrid1.Visible = true; DataGrid1.DataSource = dsSelDate; DataGrid1.DataBind(); } }
Can some one tell me what is wrong with the code.Thank You

Hi,
I'm running SSRS reports on my local server - having deployed them locally. The calendar control is rendering dates in US format, i.e. 03/31/2008 and I need the British format of 31/03/2008.
The weird thing is that when I access the reports using the link:
http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fLON-SQL-S03%2fOpsSupportLee%2fFailed+Form+Reasons
then everything is fine. However a direct call (skipping Report Manager) such as:
http://cbada00272/reportserver?%2fLON-SQL-S03%2fOpsSupportLee%2fFailed+Form+Reasons
produces the US format. My Regional setting is using English UK and the server is British English. What on earth is going on here? By the way cbada00272 is synonymous with localhost.

Lee

Hello. Is there any way to stop the web page from refreshing when selecting a date from the calendar control in SSRS 2005? I've done some digging around, and the only 'fix' found so far is to set the default date values from a dataset; which I've done, but Im still seeing the same results. I have a Start and End date parameter, both defined as datetime parameters, neither have any dependencies on any other report parameters, no cascading between any parameters in the report....nothing; as generic as it comes. I see there is an onclick Javascript event firing everytime a date is selected from this control. Is this what is causing the page refresh? Is there no way to turn this behavior off?
Thanks

Inside my SQL 2005 database I have a SmallDateTime with the layout "mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss AM/PM" and then on a selected date of a calendar control it returns the date with 12:00:00 AM which obviously doesn't match with my database's time.
So, I'm looking for a way to drop the time off completely (for the query purpose) the database date when running a select statement. I don't want to touch SQL table data by modifying it, I just want to be able to query sql table using calendar control. Does anyone now how to accomplish this? Thank you in advance. - Nietzky

I defined my input parameter as date/time but it doesn't have a time picker where we can accept user input.
The calendar is great but time picker is missing.
Is there any add-in or tweaks I can use to get that feature ?
The alternative solution which uses drop down with some preset values are not feasible for me. All I need is just the time picker similar to adjust time in Windows.

Hi,
I am trying to find the best way to use a date parameter on a OLAP report and get the calendar pop to be used instead of a dropdown.
Whenever I change from string to datetime for the parameter I (of course) get an error about different data types, since OLAP is returning the fields as strings and formatted.
Any easy (or best) approach to use to get a calendar pop to work with an OLAP report? I am mainly doing this for date range searches and do not want people to pick from huge dropdowns for dates.
Thanks.

Hi, I've got this ssrs 2005 report that works great passing a few
security related parameters from asp.net codebehind. However, there
are two date related parameters that won't be coming from my web form,
but rather from the report form itself. When I test the report's date
parameters from visual studio it work fine, but when I attempt the
same report from a reportviewer no matter what input I place on the
report's date fields or even if I select the date picker, the report
simply resets to default and reloads. And actually the date picker
from the reportviewer does not not even pop up.
Here's my aspx code:
<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false"
Inherits="_ReportViewer" MasterPageFile="~/Main/MasterPage.master"
CodeFile="~/Reports/CashSales.aspx.vb" Title="Cash Sales" %>
<%@ Register Assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms,
Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"
Namespace="Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms" TagPrefix="rsweb" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="Content1"
runat="Server">
<rsweb:ReportViewer BackColor="Transparent" ZoomMode="PageWidth"
Width="100%" ProcessingMode="Remote" ID="ReportViewer1"
runat="server">
<ServerReport ReportPath="/Retailer/CashSales"
ReportServerUrl="http://myserver/reportserver" />
</rsweb:ReportViewer>
</asp:Content>
Note: I'm only passing the parameters that are not coming from the
reportviewer form.
the code behind:
Imports system.web.security.membership
Imports system.web.security.Roles
Imports Microsoft.Reporting.Webforms
Partial Class _ReportViewer
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Private Users As New Retailer.Core()
Protected Overrides Sub OnLoad(ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim Roles() As String =
GetRolesForUser(Page.User.Identity.Name.ToString)
Dim cred As New Retailer.ReportServerCredentials("myuser",
"mypassword", "mydomain")
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = cred
Dim param As New ReportParameter("r_user",
Page.User.Identity.Name.ToString)
Dim param2 As New ReportParameter("r_role", Roles(0))
Dim p() As ReportParameter = {param, param2}
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(p)
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh()
End Sub
End Class
on my reportviewer form, at the top I have parameters for startdate
and end date, they are not set to internal or hidden.
If I select the calendar icon, i get a javascript error
Line: 606
Object Required
When I attempt to debug I get a Just-In-time failed : Unspecified
error. Check the documentation index for 'Just-in-time debugging,
errors' for more information. So pretty much I can't see the error or javascript in question.
If i enter anything in the date fields, it disregards them setting them to the defaults.
Again, if i run the report from my vs.net client (not using reportviewer), i can select the calendar and enter dates and it respects them.
Any chance I need to patch sql server or reporting services? maybe ie. I'm on IE 7.0.5730.11
Could my problem be that selecting items on the report itself fails to send my credential information from my codebehind?
Thanks for any help or information!

I'm modifying a report that uses a date parameter as a report filter. The original report had no restrictions on what dates may be entered, so it displayed a neat Calendar picker tool for use in selecting the date for the parameter.
Thing is, this new version needs to have the dates limited to only those available in the source data. So, when I provide a query to describe the available values in the parameter properties window, instead of the nifty Calendar picker, I get a texbox dropdown list. [insert sad sound here]
I was hoping that it would still provide the Calendar picker, but with available dates highlighted in bold or some color or the unavailable dates greyed out, something along those lines; not an unimaginative dropdown list. To define the available values, I use a very simple query;
SELECT DISTINCT Load_Date
FROM Census
ORDER BY Load_Date
Is there a way to get it to display a Calendar tool rather than the dropdown list, if the parameter is given a list of available dates?

I've just finished configuring the SELECT command for the SqlDataSource in my ASP.NET 2.0 web app. It works fine and runs against a SQL Server 2005 database, using a stored procedure that I've written.
So, then I went to configure the SqlDataSource for the UPDATE and INSERT commands, and I've written two SP's for those as well. In the designer the second form of the wizard asks for the Select statement. I've already given that for the SELECT statement in the third form, and I also select the INSERT tab to specify the SP I want to use for inserting data and the UPDATE tab to specify the SP I want to use for updating data. However, there appears to be no way that I can specify what the parameters are supposed to be for anything other than the SELECT command, through the designer. Is that correct, or have I missed something?

Our database gets updated each week with text files spat out by a mainframe. Previously, the database was in Access; we copied and pasted the text files into Excel, ran macros on them to convert the data, then pasted the results directly into Access and this worked fine for us.
Now that we've moved the tables to SQL Server 2000, we're having problems with the data. We wanted to set up DTS packages for each file to just put them directly into SQL Server. This works for pretty much everything except for the dates.
The way the files are set up, they're comma delimited files with quotes around the text and nothing around the dates. The dates don't have any delimiters; they're just listed like 13012006. Every time we try to import these files into SQL, it gripes about the datatypes; we're trying to put the dates into datetime fields but SQL thinks they're strings. Eek! If we put date delimiters (like 13/01/2006) SQL pulls them in fine, but apparently the mainframe lacks the ability to put these delimiters in by itself and still run everything else OK. The person who writes the extracts has to do it in a language called 'Focus' which I've never heard of and don't know anything about, and he says what I'm asking for can't be done. OK...so now what?
I've tried and tried to convert these strings into dates using both CAST() and CONVERT() and just can't manage to do it. I know I'm missing something really obvious here; does anyone have any tips or advice? Thanks in advance.

I am trying to Insert or Update a record in MSSQL with a datetime variable which is modified using the DateAdd function.
Basically, I have a table of Coupons which need to expire 'x' days in the future. When I use GetDate() for the Issue Date, I have no problems. But then, when I use DateAdd to return a date in the future, I can not Insert or Update this result into the record.
I get various errors having to do with type mismatch or function not found, etc.
Can you see what I might be doing wrong?
Here's the code snippit:
<%
if(Recordset2.Fields.Item("SerialNo").Value <> "") then UpdateExpire__SerNo = Recordset2.Fields.Item("SerialNo").Value
if(DateAdd("d",2,Now) <> "") then UpdateExpire__XD = DateAdd("d",2,Now)
%>
<%
set UpdateExpire = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")
UpdateExpire.ActiveConnection = MM_FreeVB_STRING
UpdateExpire.CommandText = "UPDATE dbo.Coupon SET ExpireDate = " + Replace(UpdateExpire__XD, "'", "''") + " WHERE SerialNo = " + Replace(UpdateExpire__SerNo, "'", "''") + ""
UpdateExpire.CommandType = 1
UpdateExpire.CommandTimeout = 0
UpdateExpire.Prepared = true
UpdateExpire.Execute()
%>
This produces this error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '12'.
And it errors at the UpdateExpire.Execute() line.
The code was generated by Dreamweaver.
Thanks.

I thought this would be easy. I have a repeater control and a sqldatasource control. I am trying to filter the select statement using DateTime.Now.ToString() and keep getting an invalid date string format. The control is on a content page in my asp.net site. On the master page this <%= DateTime.Now.ToLongDateString() %> works to display the current date. If I try and put <%= DateTime.Now.ToString() %> in the Default value of the SelectParameter it does not work. No intellisense either so I am assuming I am missing something. Here is the code... pretty basic really.
<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSourceID="sqlDSnews">
<ItemTemplate>
<h3><%# Eval("newTitle")%></h3>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
<asp:SqlDataSource
ID="sqlDSnews"
runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:XXXX%>"
SelectCommand="SELECT [newTitle], [newsDetails], [dateExpires], [newsImage], [dateCreated] FROM [News] WHERE (([GroupID] = @GroupID) AND ([dateExpires] >= @dateExpires))">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="0" Name="GroupID" QueryStringField="Gid" Type="Int32" />
<asp:Parameter Name="dateExpires" DefaultValue='<%= DateTime.Now.ToString() %> 'Type="DateTime" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>

I have an ASP page which uses an SQL data source control, as shown below: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="mySQL" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:mySQLConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT device FROM device_table WHERE (device_id IN (@devicelist))"> <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="" Name="devicelist" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>The problem is getting the "IN" clause of the select statement to work via the ASP page with code behind in C#. If I test the query in the page designer when configuring the SQL control by inserting 'device-1','device-2','device-3' as the value for the "devicelist" parameter, everything works as expected. However, when that same value is written programmatically into the DefaultValue of the parameter, the resulting query contains no results (as if the string contents are invalid). If I alter my program to supply a single entry (with no commas) it seems to work as well. I suspect the comma (and possibly the single-quote) characters in my string when multiple entries are involved are causing the issue.Is there a proper technique for getting the requisite quote-delimited, comma-separated list into the SQL control command parameter correctly? Should I be using some sort of escape sequence for the single-quote and comma characters? Should I be using another "type" for the parameter; one that accepts an array of entries? I have not been able to find any examples or documentation that provides an answer.

The report renders fine, but when I change one of the parameters (manually), the report seems to invalidate itself and a blank while area is drawn. I would like the same behaviour as in the WinForms variant, where rhe rendered report remains the same until the 'View Report' button is pressed.
Is this possible?

I have used my parameter value in where clause of my dataset control SQL query. When I choose a single value in my multiple-value parameter then I get output as expected. Hovewer when I choose multuple values I get an arror:
Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS.
----------------------------
Query execution failed for dataset 'DATABASE'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
----------------------------
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
I am convinced that it's a syntax problem. Is there a way I can change syntax of data output from query:
select @parameter
I need output to be like: value, value, value ... etc.
The dataset control query looks something like the following:
select
ID,
a,
b,
c,
d
from DATASET.dbo.Table
where ID in (select @parameter)
I have been searching through google for weeks to solve this and got this far and got stuck. Is it possible at all to achieve what I am looking for?

I have this question in one gridview: InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Member] ([IC], [FirstName], [LastName], [Gender], [Birth], [Telephone], [Mobile], , [Address], [Postcode], [TimeOfRegistration]) VALUES (@IC, @FirstName, @LastName, @Gender, @Birth, @Telephone, @Mobile, @Email, @Address, @Postcode, @TimeOfRegistration)"If I want to insert into TimeOfRegistration with "System.DateTime.Today",can I have some expression to replace the "@TimeOfRegistration" in the SQL query? (<%# %>???Maybe?) If cannot, in the parameter control below, can I put it this way to achieve it? <asp:Parameter Name="TimeOfRegistration" Type=DateTime DefaultValue="<%# %>" />If so, how to put it? Thank you very much!

I have two problems to this:
1. How do i know that my first task is bring back a value of datetime

Hello,
I am passing the partameters to MS Report Viewer control to view the report. It is working fine with normal parameters like 'abc', 'Jon' etc.
But fails with parameters having special characters like 'abc+', 'Version 1.1 Part 1', 'R1.8 RC' throws error "
The parameter is missing a value"
Could anyone please help on this.
Thanks,
Chandroday
