Trouble With Upsizing Wizard Connecting To SQL 2005 Express

This is my first post ever so forgive me if this is too basic a question.
I have an Access 2000 database that I'm trying to make into a SQL 2005 Express database. Both databases are on the same machine (I've given up with the networking of this) and, after straightening out several problems I've ran into one I can't seem to fix.
Using the Upsizing Wizard in Access 2000 I try to connect to SQL 2005 Express but I keep getting this error: http://www.paulmauer.com/SQL%20connection%20error.doc
SInce both programs are on the same machine I don't understand what is happening. Any help would be appreciated.

transfers all indexes as nonclustered indexes. You can modify the Upsizing
Wizard to transfer the primary key index to a clustered index. To make this
change, start Microsoft Access and open the upsizing wizard library database.
For Microsoft Access 95, the filename is Wzcs.mda. For Microsoft Access 97, the
filename is Wzcs97.mda. When the database is open, click the Modules tab and open the
UT_ModUserConstants module. Search down to the UT_CLUSTERED constant. Change
the default value from False to True.

Question: I am using ACCESS 2002 upsize wizard, I searched my computer for *.mda and could not find any wzcs*.mda. How do I set it so that it creates clustered-index instead of non-clustered-index?

Hello, I'm using Visual Studio 2003 and I need to be able to connect to an SQL Server 2005 Express database on the same machine using ASP.NET pages, but I'm having difficulty getting the pages to make a connection. I'm new to ASP.NET and I'm probably making some totally elemental mistake. I'd appreciate any assistance anyone can offer. A few days ago I installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition and successfully used the upsizing wizard to convert a MS Access database to SQL Server database. Today I found I could get VB.Studio Express. The instructions said to delete SQL Server Express and .NET before installing VB Studio because it would re-install them both. I faithfully did that but since then I have been unable to get the upsizing wizard to work again. I have uninstalled SQL Server and re-installed it but still cant get it working. From SQL Server Configuration manager I can confirm that Shared Memory and TCP/IP protocol are both enabled for both protocols for clent and protocols for SQLEXPRESS Both the SQL Server and the SQL Browser are running. And from SQL Server Surface Configuration I can confirm that OPENROWSET AND OPENDATASOURCE SUPPORT is disabled; CLR Registration is disabled; OLE AUTOMATION is enabled; and xpCommandshell is disabled.
When I run the upsizing module it goes through the motions but the report at the end says "table was skipped or export failed" for each of the tables in the database.
I have looked everywhere I can think of to try to find a solution but no one so far has been able to help.

Hi, I have SBS 2003 installed and have currently been working with Sharepoint. I upgraded to SQL Server 2005 using the methods described in the documentation provided on the SBS CD, which can be found here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=60500
I followed the document step by step and the installation completed without any problems, however after installation when trying to access a website I created in Sharepoint prior to upgrading I ran into this error: "Unable to connect to database." That error led me to the following Microsoft support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823287
I followed all three methods in that article to ensure that the server is running and that it is configured properly, but it didn't change a thing.
Looking in eventvwr I noticed the following:
Failure Audit: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
Followed by:
Error: #50070: Unable to connect to database
It sounds as if Network Service doens't have the appropriate permissions to access the SQL server, but I defined those permissions in the SQL Server 2005 upgrade following what the upgrade manual provided on the CD told me.
I have been fooling around with this issue for a long time now, does anyone have any ideas?

I have inherited some 4 SQL servers running 6.5 and 7.0
Some of the servers have MS Access Installed and some
have an "upsizing to SQL Server" wizard under the MS
Access TOOLS/Add-Ins/.
Some do not. I need to locate where this utility comes
from. I think it must come from the 6.5 or 7.0 SQL Server
Install CD.
Does anyone know for sure?

Hello guys,
I am not sure if this is appropriate forum to ask but I have the folowing problem:
My client has MS Access database with about 116 tables in it. They need to transfer all tables to MS SQL server and keep application in working mode :) so far so good. I decided to use MS Access Upsizing wizard to do the job and this is the reason I am writing now... when the wizards proceeds (I am moving to SQL 2005) about 50/116 tables it just stops without warning or error in report... The only error I got is that some tables has no unique index and they cannot be updattable.
Does anyone have an idea?

I have an Access 2000 Database which I am upsizing to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Database has 29 tables and 60 stored queries. Each time I upsize to SQL Server the tables come in fine but non of the queries are imported.
All of the queries are very simple Select, Insert, Update and Delete Queries with nothing special in them.
I have tried using the upsizing wizard in Access 2003 and also the SQL Server 2005 Migration Assistant for Access.
Is there anything special I need to do in the migration assistant to ensure that the queries are imported as well.

I am in the process of porting all of my Access 2003 databases to SQL Server. I started with my smallest database, which has only two tables. I have run the wizard five times, with different settings, but every time it only imports the table structure without the data.
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here? Also, I have created several databases which I can't use, named InstructorsSQL, InstructorsSQL1, InstructorsSQL2, etc. I deleted the database files, but the names are apparently still in the system, since SQL Server won't allow me to use the same name again. How can I get rid of these old names.

Here is the information that I have... ( ps all information is not the actuall information )
1) URL abc.somehostingcompany.com IP: 211.11.111.1 PORT: 1433 ( NOTE: if I go to a cmd promt and type in ping abc.somehostingcompany.com I get a response )
2) dbname = mydatabase
3) userUid = sa pwd = sa
Inside SQL Server Configuration Manager --> SQL Server Network Configuration --> Protocols for SQLEXPRESS, I enabled TCP/IP and Shared Memory. Inside the properties of TCP / IP, I made sure under the "IP Address" tab that the
IP1: Active = yes
IP1: Enabled = yes
IP1: IP Address = abc.somehostingcompany.com
IP1: TCP Dynamic Ports = 0
IP1: TCP Port = < empty string >
I clicked "OK", and I stopped and started the SQL Server 2005 Services --> SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS). Then I started up SQL Server Brower.
Lastly I go to SQL Server Management Studio Express and try to connect to this remote server and database and I keep getting timeout issues and a message saying that the default settings for SQL Server Express do not allow remote connectioning by default.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Should I use the port number instead of Dynamic Ports? Should I use the real IP address? Does the LOG ON AS under SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) properties need to be updated?
Any help would be great.

I am creating an install for our product and as part of the changes I
am making, I want to upgrade a user's DB engine, if they are still
using MSDE 1.0, to SQL Express 2005.
The upgrade path we have chosen is the following.....
MSDE 1.0 --> MSDE 1.0 sp4 --> SQL Express 2005
I believe this should work, yes? Anywho, I am trying to run a
"passive" install of SQL Express and I am using the following parameter

Is that mean :

I tried to set all options like enable TCP IP connection and networks

The data has unquie name and it is located in shared folder and I can easly to connect to database like access with no problem

i have a website project making an online catalog, maybe 20 categories, a few hundred items. the small business starter kit looked perfect to jump start this. the client has provided an access database with the two table for categories and products. i've got the dts wizard installed and have been trying to import the access data into the sbsk database but i'm stuck. i'm almost positive that ONE time when i was banging around with the dts wizard, the Edit Mapping screen would let me drop down a list of fields in the destination table so I could actually tell it which field data from the source i wanted to go into which field of the destination. Of course it didn't succeed that time and now i can't seem to figure a way to get back to having the option to choose the destination fields, all it gives me in the drop down is "<ignore>" or the field name of the source table, which of course doesn't match any of the ones that are in the sbsk.
i've been back through it for a couple days, trying different ways, migrating the data first to sql, letting it try a transfer to a new table then trying to import that, moving both out to excel, aligning the data manually and trying to import that, etc. i'm bout out of ideas and would sure like to get back to just trying to work out the data type alignment issues with whatever it was i did when i could choose the destination table's fields.
i'd be most appreciative if anyone has a clue what i'm talking about and can put me back on track.

Hi all,
I have a SQL Server 2005 Express edition instance set up on one server, and IIS on another server.
The SQL Server process account is a domain user account, which I have added to the local groups that SQL Server created during installation (I originally used a local user account instead of domain account; however, the problem occurs with both).
SQL Server runs fine, and if I set my IIS application pool identity to a domain admin, my web app can access the database and retrieve the data necessary.
However, I have a domain user account that I want to use to run the app pool and retrieve the data. The domain user account is added to the IIS_WPG group on the web server. On the database server, I have created a login for the account, as well as added it to the db_datareader role of the database that is used for the site.
However, the user is not able to connect to the SQL Server. I get the "Login failed for user <user account>" error in ASP.NET. I also tried connecting with SQL Server Management Studio, and I get the same error. I checked and the user has connect permission to the database server.
With admin accounts, there are no problems logging in, etc.
Any pointers are appreciated,

Edit: I was able to find out that the State is 11 for the error. According to http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/02/21/536201.aspx, this indicates "Valid login but server access failure." I am not sure how to resolve this.

I've downloaded & installed Visual Web developer Express and SQL Server Express and now I'm trying to install the Reporting Add-In available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx
It downloads just fine and, just as the installation progress bar is almost done and the status text says 'Registering Product', I get the following error message:
"There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personell or package vendor"
Running VWD shows the ReportViewer control now appears in the 'data' group. I can add it to a form, but I cannot create a new report, as clicking on 'Design a new report' under the ReportView Tasks popup menu does nothing.
Any ideas, please?

I've created a new database and restored the database from a backup. I'm wanting to import raw data from an excel spreadsheet into the tables of the new database.
When I right click on the database, and hover over tasks the import/ export data menu options are not in the menu.The menu items ends at 'Generate Scripts'.
I'm connected on a local instance to a registered server.
Can anyone advise?

Hi All,
I want to connect to SQLExpress database on the network. I can do so using code but I want to use the Data Source Configuration Wizard. It seems this only works for local instances of SQL server. Is this true?
I can connect just fine to the database on the network using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express...for what this is worth.
I have tried to map a drive to the SQL server machine and pick the mdf file but I get the error msg of network path is not supported for database files....I have turned on allow remote connections, allow tcp/ip, named pipes, added sqlserv.exe and sqlbrowser.exe to my firewall exceptions ect..
I want to be able to use Table Adapters, SqlDataAdapters ect. After reading numerous forum questions/ kb articles this seems to be a common problem. I am on the verge of just saying forget it and use MS Access instead.

I had SQL Server Express Edition installed. I then uninstalled both it and Visual C#. I then installed SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition and reinstalled Visual C# -- both on the same machine. I can connect to SQL Server 2005 using SQL Server Management Studio. However, Visual C# is a different story. When I try to add a new Data Connection, it defaults the data source to .SQLEXPRESS, which is no longer on my machine. I can select .MSSQLSERVER, but when I click on either OK or Test Connection, I time out with an error message -- error 25 - Connection string is not valid. Hi
I am installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition. Everything goes well until the installation of SQL Server Express occurs. SQL Express installation progresses fine until very end of the installation. At that point it becomes stuck.
The installation says "Current component is installing" and is stuck on that message. The installer does not seem to be frozen as the picutres changes. However CPU usage for the setup processes is 0.
I have disabled all virus scanning software already.
Any help is apprceciated.

After some weeks evaluating tools and platforms for developing an application, I decided to move to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Everything was fine till last night, when after creating my tables, I needed to populate them. I tried to find the Import and Export Data Wizard that SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 used to have, but great was my surprise when I found - in this forum - a post that said that it's not available in the Express Edition.
I'll have to move back in time (what I hate) to remember the way BCP worked. Can somebody post some examples to not start from zero ? Does anybody know a third party visual tool that can import/export data from text files to a SQL Server DB via ODBC ?
What's the reason it was not included in the EE ?

I Can connect to a sql 2005 express database, from visual basic 6.0, locally with no problem.
The connection string looks like:
cnWEB.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;" & _ "Persist Security Info=False;" & _ "AttachDBFileName=" & sPath & "viper.mdf;Data Source=.sqlexpress;"
where the path is the path to the database file viper.mdf.
How would I modify the connection string to remotely connect to a sql 2005 express database running on a web server running 2003 server???

Hello,
I have sucessfully installed SQL Express, configured it for remote acess, created a working ODBC connection and can link tables from Access to SqlExpress. I am now trying to upsize an access database to SqlExpress. When I click "Use existing database" I get an Overflow error, no explanation is the wizard expecting like named tables with elements?
Any help appreciated.

I am having major issues connecting to SQL Server 2005 Express from Visual Basic 2005 Express, which I have tried on multiple PCs but to no avail. Can somebody please explain to me what I'm doing wrong?
1) I install SQL Server 2005 Express and Visual Basic 2005 Express (With .NET framework and SQL native client of course)
2) I open SQL Server using Management Studio and going in with windows authentication. It automatically sets the log on name to computernameSQLEXPRESS.
3) I create a new database called Test and add one table to it
4) I go into Visual Basic 2005 and create a new project.
5) I go to the projects application settings (Properties - Settings).
6) I set up a new connection string, choosing SQL server as the conection type and then on the Connection Properties window it asks me to select the mdf file for the database. I choose the file Test.mdf from the directory C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData
7) I click on Test Connection.
When I do this on two out of the three home PCs I get the error:
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf".Operating system error 32: "32 (error not found)".
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
The third PC gives me a different error:
Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'DAVEDavid'.
I get the same errors when I try to use a connection string inside the code directly. Does anyone have a clue as to why these errors are occuring? Do I need to set up security or something else on the database first, or is there another reason? If anyone can please help me get to the bottom of this or provide a web address where I can get the answer (step by step instructions on how to connect) then I would be most grateful.

Hello,
I can connect to amachine using SQL server 2000 using IIS 6.0. However, I am having trouble connecting to my server that has SQL server express using IIS 6.0. I'm using similar setting for both servers. Is there something else i have to do for SQL server express?
I'm not sure why this is the case. Any information that could help resolve this failed connection would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this is the right place for this question.
I'm using SQL 2005 Express on my local machine, I can connect and do all I need to.
But when I transfered my database to my remote server I cannot connect (I changed the connection string to suit).
<add name="ClubSiteDB" connectionString="Data Source=xx.xxx.xx.xx,1786;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=xxx;User ID=xxx;Password=xxx;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
I have checked the connection string passsword etc, and all are correct.
I have tried SQL Server Management Studio, aspnet_regsql.exe etc and all give the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No such host is known.)or
System.Web.HttpException: Unable to connect to SQL Server database. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)
I have used the surface config to enable TCP/IP and named pipes.
Any Ideas?

Hi. Im trying to get a asp.net web aplication to write data to an sql express server located on another server. However when i try to connect with VS 2008 it says: "Named pipes provider, error 40: - Could not open a connection to SQL server".
What do i need to do to get this to work. Do i have to set something in the sql server, and i assume i have to open some ports in my firewall aswell?
Any help sugestions would be aprichiated
