Troubleshooting A Corrupt Uninstall Of SQL Server
Apr 6, 2006
Hi --
I am a new user of SQL Server, Enterprise Manager, and Reporting Services (all three are installed on my comptuer) and have a problem. Please bear with me, I am very new at this and don't know all the correct terminology!
Someone in our IT group "discovered" that I had two "instances" of SQL on my machine. The way he came to this was that I was trying to use the "." to connect to my local machine in Query Analyzer and it wasn't pulling the databases I had saved to my computer, it was looking in another folder LOCALDB (a subset of my computer's name). He was unsure how to move all of my databases on my comptuer to that LOCALDB folder so he uninstalled the "LOCALDB" entry from the Add/Remove Programs screen to fix this. He said "No to All" when it prompted him to remove shared entries.
Consequently, when I load Enterprise Manager now, I get the "Snap-In failed to initialize" message. I also do not have any SQL Server options in my Start Menu Anymore. Query Analyzer still exists, though, I had saved a shortcut to my taskbar and I can still launch it from there. He is saying all I need is to re-install the "Client Tools" folder from the CD and that will fix the problem. I am skeptical, since it appears to be a larger issue (SQL isn't in my Start Menu anymore!).
I am sure that my SQL install is probably completely corrupt. I would like to return to full functionality of SQL Server, Enterprise Manager, and MRS as soon as possible. Can anyone begin to advise me on how to do so?
I really do appreciate your help in advance.

I hope someone can help me here. Here is some background.
As I was attempting to download SQL Express, the download dialog box timed out. When I x-ed out of the download, Windows XP Professional 2002 threw up an error message indicating that the dialog box was non-responsive, and I elected to close it.
I downloaded SQL again successfully, and installed with no errors. I then attempted to create a new db through Visual Web Developer. Instead of creating a database, Visual Studio returned an error saying that I did not allow for new database objects, and that I should change my permission settings. I could not figure out how to do this, so I uninstalled SQL Express.
After re-starting, I got the following message: €œYour SQL Server Installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this option.€?
I uninstalled MS SQL again from the Add/Delete Programs on my Control Panel. On re-start, I received the same error again. On my Programs list, MS SQL is not present, there are several MS SQL files in the path C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server.
So I located the Visual Studio uninstall tool and attempted to run it. I received the same error: €œYour SQL Server Installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this option.€?
Any ideas on how to uninstall the files in my program files so I can load a clean copy of SQL?

I'm using SQL 2005 Standard edition with Windows 2000 SP 4. Whenever Windows boots, I get this message 'SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (error getting instance ID from name). I've un-installed and re-installed SQL but I keep getting the same message. What's up with that? Is that a serious condition or should I ignore it? Any suggestions, anybody?

Hi,I have just installed Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 along with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Anyway, I tried to execute the SQL server(in directory ../Microsoft SQL Server MSSQL.1 MSSQL Binn) and it gave me this error:"Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Error getting instance ID from name.). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem "I have formatted everything in my hard drive before re-installing Windows XP, and there isn't another SQL server except the one I just installed. If anyone could figure out what the problem is, can you please let me know how I could fix it?? Many many thanks.Nelson

Hi
Recently I have experienced the following scary scenario;
Users report a problem with an app, on diagnosis it is found that a bunch of SPs in SQL Server seem to be corrupt.
That is, when the code for them is listed, the 'Create Procedure..' line and several DECLARE lines are missing. Often the SP starts off in the middle of a variable name!!
Perhaps entries in the syscomments table have become corrupted?
Has anyone seen this problem before - is it perhaps a known bug in SQL Server 6.5?

After reinstalling SQL server 2005 I got this message:
Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with ( Error getting Instance ID From name).
Please uninstall, then re-run stetup to correct this problem.
There are also 51 setup log files in: Setup/Boostrap/Log/files/

Hi
I have installed SQLExpress. Whenever I boot my PC (XP Pro SP2) I get the following error just prior to logon: "Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Error generating instance ID from name). Please uninstall the re-run setup to correct this problem."
I have now uninstalled and re-installed twice with no success. SQLExpress seems to be running fine, just this worrying message all the time.
Any help will be gladly appreciated.

I got the above message when my system started.
I uninstalled everything, but had problems uninstalling the desktop engine. An attempts to reinstall just hung at "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop engine".
I used the MS recovery tool to remove the desktop engine.
After that running install would progress further thru the above dialog window, but then the progess bar just zipped backward and the dialog box disappeard. Nothing! No message or anything.
How do I clean up this mess?
Thanks,
-- Frank

I have a table which I am unable to drop, remove indexes from, and when I select the database from the EM and click on Recalculate get the following error:
When attempting to do a Recalculate from the EM I get: Error 2541 (SQL Server) Table Corrupt object id does not match between extent in allocation page a d sysindexes; check the following extent; alloc pg# 589050 extent# 589096 object id on extent=0 object name=0 object id in sysindexes=1420532094 (object name=MifDEtailOct)
When attempting to remove an index from the table I get: Error 2504 (SQL Server) Table Corrupt index id in alloc page does not match the index id in sysindexes (alloc page#=721664; extentid=721704; index id in alloc=5;index id in sysindexes = 4
When attempting to drop the table from the EM it disappears then when I do a refresh it's back again.
I run a checkdb on the database once a week, but that hasn't resolved the problem.
I also ran the sp_fixindex as outlined in the faq with no relief.
This initially happened on one table and now I'm getting the same error on a second table. I have removed the data from both tables, but can't seem to get rid of them.
These tables originally has a couple of million records in them so they were rather large before I moved the data to a new table.
Truncate also didn't work when I was attempting to clear the table. I had to create an sp to delete a few hundred thousand records at a time.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

In doing a System Restore an error occurred in my SQL 2005. I've researched the thing, and am prepared to uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2005, however, even tho I am administrator it will not uninstall. It will not reinstall over the previous install that's in place.
When I go through Control Panel to Add and Remove, when I click uninstall SQL Server 2005 it merely flashes a new window for a second and then does nothing. It will not start an uninstall action.
I don't know what to do short of a full XP Pro re-install.

I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 through "Add or Remove Programs". Apparently I did something wrong. The files are gone, but when I try to reinstall, the installer says SQL Server already exists, and won't install. When I go to the Configuration Manager, it shows all the components, but not of the services are started - or will start. How do I clean this up without wiping my drive and reinstalling my OS?

I am new to SQL Server 2005. I want to uninstall the Standard version, for now, and install the Express version.
In my un-install of SQL Server 2005 I have managed to end up in a situation where I can't completely un-install, nor can I
re-install. I get a 1635 error message when attempting to install and I get the following message at system startup time:
Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with(could not open SQLEVN70.RLL)
Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem.
Assistance in resolving this would be deeply appreciated.

I too can not get sql server 2005 to completely uninstall. In the installation setup, all the services installed except the "SQL Server Native Client" and the "SQL Server Database Services". I got an error stating, that the two mentioned errors, must first be uninstalled. I am having issues uninstalling those files. Are there scripts that will help uninstall these files? Or can you direct me to the proper area to solve this.

Hi,
I am having problems with my SQL server Agent.
1) When I try to create a New Job/Alert/Operator, I get an error message:
Error 207: Invalid Column Name "category_id"
Invalid Column Name "netsend_address"
Invalid Column Name "last_netsend_date"
Invalid Column Name "last_netsend_time"
.....All these are referring to columns in System Tables of the system Database MSDB.
2)In another SQL Server...say "A", in it's SQL Server Agent, using the Multi-Server Administration, I set up the SQL Server Agent of "A" as the Master (MSX) server, and set up a Target(TSX) server pointing to the Server "B" that has problems in SQL Agent....referred in 1) above. When I try to "Detach the MSX Server" from server B, i get a message Error 207: Invalid Column Name "netsend_address", and cannot detach..........This is again referrring to a System Table.
It appears that the problem is with the MSDB database being corrupt. Is there a way I can Repair a Corrupt MSDB without Re-installing SQL Server 2000 and without a Backup.
Any help greatly appreciate.
Thanks

4)I tried to remove though A/R programs (using my 2005 DE) - I see it listed but I receive the following error:The setup failed to read IISmime maptable the error code is -2147024893.
5) When I try to use 2005 Report Service Config Manager, I receive the following error: An unknown error in WMI Provider Error code 80040219 wmi provider.
So I am unable to setup my 2005 SQL DE Report Server.

Hello,
I am trying to uninstall Sql Server 2005 Beta in order to upgrade to
the Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition but without success.
Here is what I have already done:
I had VS 2005 2.0 Beta and Sql Server 2005 Beta installed. I wanted to
upgrade to the Professional Editions so I uninstalled VS 2005 2.0 Beta
and Sql Server 2005 Beta from Add/ Remove programs.
I have successfully installed VS 2005 Professional Edition but when I
try to install Sql Server 2005 it gives me an error saying that SQL
Server 2005 has detected incompatible components from beta versions of
Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005.
Please advise.
Thank you.

In previous post in the Getting Started section, I discussed problems trying to run queries on multiple databases:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=299240#299240&SiteID=1
Nobody could help with the problem. I eventually got a query to run after several attempts at deleting and recreating databases. Then, I was hit with the following error message:
Class does not support aggregation (or class object is remote) (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040110 (CLASS_E_NOGGREGATION)) (Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlTools.VSIntegration)
Nobody could help with that either but based on posts with the same message, I tried uninstalling sql server. It wouldn't uninstall nor can I repair or reinstall. Uninstalling thru Add or Remove Programs only resulted in the program listing being removed from Add or Remove Programs. Most of the sql server programs are still installed. They can be run but continue to malfunction. When I try a new installation, I get a message that the programs are already installed.
Is a complete reinstall of windows xp, programs and data the only solution? I hate to believe it; but, at this point, I see no other choice.
