Troublshooting With SQL Server 2005 Expess Edition

Mar 19, 2007

Hi, all there!

I have a simple question. About one month ago I installed MSDE on Windows XP SP 2 machine, so I should be able to project my databases made in Access 2003. It work well for a while. Then a few days ago I downloaded and installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition, but simply forgot to read about upgrading MSDE to SQL Server.

After installing SQL Server I yesterday decided to uninstall MSDE and uninstall it, cause I thought that I won't be need it ever again.

When I tried today to conect my project to SQL Server by sqlcmd utility, there was a message that Server was not found, and connection is not possible to attach.

How to solve my problem? I thought to install MSDE again on my machine, but wasn't sure is it good idea.

Please help me out.

Problem Install SQL Server 2005 Expess SP2 With Advanced Services On Windows XP SP3

May 20, 2008

When I try to install SQL Server 2005 Expess SP2 with Advanced Services on a clean Windows XP system that has had Service Pack 3 applied I get the error "Setup is missing prerequisites: - MSXML6" when it starts to install SQL Server Management Studio Express. This is despite the fact that earlier in the installation is says it installed MSXML6, and my understanding is that MSXML6 is part of Windows XP Service Pack 3 anyway.

The SQL Express installation stops installing components at this point. The database server itself does seem to be operational.

Is there anything I can do to work around this? I would like our customers to be able to install and use Management Studio Express.

Windows CE 5 Device With SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Sync With SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Oct 25, 2007

I have:

A server computer running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.

A industrial computer running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition.

The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened".

Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way.

I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best.

If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide or something else it would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Björn

Replicating From SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition To Remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Aug 13, 2007

Hello,

I have been unable to create a replication from an SQL Server 2005 standard edition database to remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The remote express edition is on a Virtual Private Server we are leasing from a hosting company. The name of the remote DB is similar to vs572.si-vs572.com. I can connect to this with SQL server authentication through Management Studio and also with SSIS. But, I have been unable to create a push subscription (I have tried a test push subscription with the same publication to a local SQL Express server here in our office and this works fine).

Here is the error message: SQL Server Replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'VS572SQLEXPRESS'.

The hosting company had originally installed a shared SQL server which would not support replication. They then installed SQL Express edition and I was hoping this would allow us to run a replication.

I tried to connect to VS572SQLEXPRESS with out any luck. I check the remote connections, made sure replication was installed, etc., but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Albert

-I have istalled sql server 2005 standard edition , I want to install sql server 2005 enterprise edition on the same machine.
Is it possible? I have Microsoft windows server 2003 SP2 and 1GB RAM.
I want to use partition function with the enterprise edition, will the trial version of sql server work for me?
-If I have already created a database and tables using the standard edition, will I be able to access and use the database using the installed trial version or will I have to start a fresh creating a new database?
- Is it possible to access the same database with any of the installed versions?

BTW, I am prety new to sql server and databases , I am trying to learn by myself

Thanks

Performance Difference Between SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition And Enterprise Edition

Dec 15, 2006

Dear All,We have a database which contains many tables which have millions ofrecords. When We attach the database with MS SQL Server 2005 StandardEdition Server and run some queries (having joins, filters etc.) thenthey take very long time to execute while when We execute same querieson Enterprise Edition then they run 10 times faster than on standardedition.Our database does not use any features which are present in EnterpriseEdition and not present in Standard Edition. We want to know what arethe differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition forperformance. Why should we go for Enterprise Edition when StandardEdition has all the features required.We are presently using evaluation versions of SQL Server 2005 Standardand Enterprise Editions.Thanks and regards,Nishant Sainihttp://www.simplyjava.com

Error Upgrading SQL Server 2005 From Standard Edition To Enterprise Edition (x64)

Apr 10, 2008

I am attempting to upgrade a 2005 Standard Edtion to Enterprise Edition. This is a default instance. All components are upgraded successfully except the Database Engine. I receive the following error:

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.

This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.

After rebooting the SQL instance appears to be upgraded to Enterprise, but it cannot be upgraded to SP2.

Can I Use Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition With Windows Xp Home Edition SP2 For MCTS Exam 70-431 Preparation?

Dec 21, 2007

Hi
I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance.
I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system.
I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server.

Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version?
I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer.
According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system
(NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book?

Thanks

SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition Upgrade To Standard Edition

Feb 8, 2008

I'd like to upgrade from my current SQL Server version: 09.00.3042 (Workgroup edition that comes with SBS upgrade) to the standard edition that I've just purchased. I've attempted to run setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1 from the command prompt and it just tells me that there's nothing new to install.

I don't really want to uninstall the current installation just to do something that shouldn't be complicated to do, upgrading software versions should not be a difficult process.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

Change From Developer Edition To Enterprise Edition Of SQL Server 2005 64 Bit

May 20, 2008

We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated.

Thank you,

Matt

How Can I Run SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition On Standard Edition

Mar 20, 2008

I tried to download PerformancePoint Server Trial Version to ther server today and I got to the configuration point of the Analysis Services Setting, and when I clicked next to proceed with the configuration I got a popup error message:
"Microsoft Analysis Server must be Evaluation, Developer or Enterprise Edition".

Now I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Disc (Bought it with Visual Studio 2005) but on the server I have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, if I try to run the sql server developer Edition disc, I use the wizard download and it seems that the download is going through the SQL Server entire download, it's like I'm re-downloading SQL Server all over again.

Does that seem right?
what is the best approach to work around this probelm?

I appreciate any help

Thanks

Sql Server 2005 Express Edition VS Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition

Dec 1, 2006

Hello..

I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type?

I really appreciate any respond from you guys.. Thank's and waiting for the good news..

SQL Server Expess Vs SQL Server 2000

Mar 31, 2006

I have SQL Server Express (and VB Express) installed on my computer. My client has SQL Server 2000. Can I develop a database using SQL Express (and VB Express) and later transfer to my client's computer? Or can I export from SQL express to SQL 2000?

Secondly, and not related to above question, can SQL express be used for large databases. I am aware of its limited features, but that does not matter to me.

Thanx.

Sql Server 2005 Compact Edition 3.1 RDA Synchronization Fails On Table With Index In Sql Server 2005 Database

Jan 21, 2008

We have been using Sql Server 2005 Compact Edition 3.1 RDA synchronization method successfully on Sql Server 2000 database. Recently we moved the database to Sql Server 2005, sync doesn't work anymore, it just hangs on one table. On further investigation, we found out that it's the index on that table that causes this. We removed the index, it works fine. We are wondering the root cause, removing the index is not a solution for us. Any thoughts?. Thanks.

Upgrade From SQL Server 2005 Eval Copy To SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition

Jul 23, 2007

I have a SQL Server 2005 evaluation that has already been installed and setup on a server. I believe it originally had a 180 day eval. There have been numerous databases and users added as well as maintenance plan created...

The eval was put on the machine as an interim solution while waiting for paper work and order processiing things to happen. All the paperwork and ordering... have been completed and I now have the real SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition license key ....

I am very new to SQL Server and need to determine ...

1. Can I update the eval copy to become permanently licensed?

2. Would I want to upgrade the eval to permanent? Will I lose any capabilities by keeping the current eval setup?

If it is reasonable to keep the eval setup

3. How do I go about entering the license key to make it permanent?

If it is necessary to install the new Standard Edition...

4. How do I install it while maintaining the already defined databases, data, users, maintenance plan...

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Chris

Replication Between SQL 2005 Express Edition And SQL 2005 Standard Edition

May 10, 2007

Hello everybody,

I got a problem in my development phase. I'm developing a web-application system that running merge database technology which is centralized database and distributed database. This is because my customer want a highly optimum system standby.

My centralized database running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and the distributed database running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (because it is free). Each of these database, the users can change the data on its database. So, every database must have the same data. from my understanding, each server must act as Publisher and Subscriber. Can SQL Server 2005 Express Edition be a Publisher?

If not, what the solution you all may suggest, because cost is the first factor. If my architecture is not correct, so what you all suggest to me to resolve the problem.

Thanks so much. Any suggestion and opinion is highly appreciate and I'm highly thanks to you all.

I have written following code in my application

I just want to display all the data of a Single table into a Data Grid, I know that we can drag and drop the table on to a form and datagrid is generated, but here I want to retrive those values through my code, how should i do that

Error: A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information see HRESULT
Error 2) Error No. 0, SQL Server 2005 Evrywhere Edition ADO.Net Data Provider
Error: The specified table does not exist [ JobLists ].

Can anybody please tell me, where I went wrong ??? In this code anywhere else????

Note: While adding a Data Source of SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition, I have added that .sdf file into my project, thats why I have written the Data Source as : .DbFile.sdf

@"Data Source = .DbDotNetCF.sdf";

The code is as follows:

using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Drawing;
using System.Text;
using System.Windows.Forms;
using System.Data.SqlServerCe;

repl.Publication = @"PubDotNetCF";
repl.Subscriber = @"SubDotNetCF";
repl.SubscriberConnectionString = @"Data Source='" + filename + "';Max Database Size=128;Default Lock Escalation =100;";
try

if (!System.IO.File.Exists(filename))
{
repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase);
}
repl.Synchronize();
}
catch (SqlCeException ex)
{
DisplaySQLCEErrors(ex);
}
finally
{
repl.Dispose();
}

// Display Same Data In Another DataGrid : dataGrid1
SqlCeConnection cn = new SqlCeConnection(@"Data Source='" + filename + "'");

SqlCeDataAdapter daJobLists = new SqlCeDataAdapter("SELECT JobListsID, JobID, PersonID FROM JobLists", cn);
if (dsJobLists == null)
{
dsJobLists = new DataSet();
}
try
{
dsJobLists.Clear();
daJobLists.Fill(dsJobLists, "JobLists");
dataGrid1.DataSource = dsJobLists.Tables["JobLists"];
}
catch (SqlCeException ex)
{
DisplaySQLCEErrors(ex);
}
}

private void DisplaySQLCEErrors(SqlCeException ex)
{
for (int i = 0; i < ex.Errors.Count; i++)
{
MessageBox.Show("Index #" + i.ToString() + ""
+ ex.Errors.Source + ""
+ "Error: " + ex.Errors.Message,
"Error No. " + ex.Errors.NativeError.ToString());
}
}

private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Sync();
DeleteDB();

if (DbDotNetCFDataSetUtil.DesignerUtil.IsRunTime())
{
// TODO: Delete this line of code to remove the default AutoFill for 'dbDotNetCFDataSet.JobLists'.
this.jobListsTableAdapter.Fill(this.dbDotNetCFDataSet.JobLists);

Creating A New Connection With Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition From Visual Studio 2005 IDE

Jul 25, 2007

Hello, How are you?
I have a problem when I try to create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?

I appreciate your help€¦
