Sep 4, 2015I have to truncate access table before I insert records to access database table.
I tried using Delete From Table_name or Truncate table Table_NAME and I have used Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider. It does not seem to work. I read some post on forums. None of them seem to work while truncating or deleting records from one of the access database table.
Is there any easy way to truncate access database without using script component and VB scripts. I do not know how to Write VB scripts so trying to find alternatives.

Dec 24, 2014I am building a Visual Sudio process that will Truncate and load data to an Access database (2010) from SQL Server (2012). I have one "Execute SQL Task" for one table (LungCancer_HF_Patients):
"DELETE LungCancer_HF_Patients.* FROM LungCancer_HF_Patients;" that parses and works.
I have another table (Report1):
"DELETE Report1.* FROM Report1;"
that does not parse with a message "The query failed to parse. Incorrect syntax near '*'."
Why the first one parses correctly and the other one does not?

we created dsn for the connection.
reboot solves the problem. but we need another solution better than this.

i am using flatfilesource for reading data . for example for a condition if empid='2' means i have to truncate the dataflow , it is possible or not ?

How To Refresh Access Table From SSIS Package?

I have created an SSIS package to export rows of data from SQL to Access using SSIS package. The package is executed from asp.net web application. Below is what i want to achieve:
-User enters a date range
-SSIS package will export data between the date range from SQL to Access database.
-When user enter another date range, I want to clear the contents of the Access database. (Im using Execute Sql Task--- Delete tablename)
The problem is that when I look at the table after the second user request, the fields will show #deleted. Only after i click refresh will the new data appear. How can I make the data appear without manually refreshing the Access table.

The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput().
The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component,

Renaming An Access Table In An SSIS Package
Sep 7, 2007My current project requires me to both rename the MDB file for an Access database and rename the table it contains. The Access files comes in with random names, each containing one table with a specific name. Based on the table name it contains, I rename both the file and the interior table to a standard name which a later package in the process references.
A foreach container loops through all the mdb files in the applicable directory, containing a script task and a file system task. The script task uses GetOleDbSchemaTable to extract the table name, then loops through an array of table names from the client's configuration, comparing it to a similar array of constant names and getting the matching one. The file system task then uses that found name (or the original table name if a conversion is not found) to rename the file to match that standard name. So far, so good.
Now I have to rename the table within the file as well. All of the examples of code I'm finding on the 'net refernce ADOX, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use that in a script task, assuming that's what I want to do in the first place.
Anyone have any experience with doing things like this?

Apr 17, 2007I am writing my first SSIS task. I have an MS Access database and I'm moving the contents of each table into a like-named SQL Server database. The task is working properly except for one step.
The source Access database may or may not have one of the tables in it. It will always have TableA, TableB, and TableC, but may or may not have TableD. I need to write my SSIS package in such a way that it will detect the presence/absence of TableD and either run or skip the import step for this table accordingly.
Can someone assist with the step that detects the table presence/absence in the MSAccess database?

Aug 23, 2006 Here is my issue I am new to 2005 sql server, and am trying to take my old data which is exported to a txt file and import it to tables in sql. The older database is non relational, and I had made several exports for the way I want to build my tables. I built my packages fine and everything is working until I start building relationships. I remove my foreign key and the table with the primary key will get updated for the package again. I need to update the data daily into sql, and once in it will only be update from the package until the database is moved over.
It will run and update with a primary key until I add a foreign key to another database.
Here is my error when running the package when table 2 has a foreign key.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "TRUNCATE TABLE [consumer].[dbo].[Client] " failed with the following error: "Cannot truncate table 'consumer.dbo.Client' because it is being referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint.". I am try to transfer some tables data from one database server into another database server. I create a package in SSIS, and I use a variable to pass each table name. In Data flow, I use a OLEDB Source, but I cannot set the Data access mode to Table name or view name variable. Ever time, I will get this following error info "===================================

Jul 4, 2007i did a Stored Procedure to truncate a table. it contains lots of crap from testing the site. just a simple 1 ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.TruncateUploads

TRUNCATE TABLE Uploads but it says "Cannot truncate table 'Uploads' because it is being referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint." then i make NULL all foreign keys and try still cannot. then i did it manually deleting all records then can! but why can't i truncate it? isn't it the same as removing all values plus having the primary keys to start from 0?

I have 2 records in members table and zero records in order table.
When I try to truncate members table I get an error message.
cannot truncate table members,because it is being referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint.
this what blows my head, There is no records in orders table. so why would the constraint enforced when there is no data in the order table. I created same table in access and I was able to delete a member from the members table. any comments.

It's known that TRUNCATE TABLE works much faster than DELETE, but impossible to use TRUNCATE TABLE on a table referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint... Is it possible temporary disable (not delete) constraints and after complition of TRUNCATE enable them ?

after removing all rows from RiverInStates Table using TRUNCATE and the command completed successfully.
when i tried to remove all rows from Rivers table , i got the following error.
"Server: Msg 4712, Level 16, State 1, Line 76

i thought the error may be due to the "Fkriverinstates" FOREIGN KEY CONSTRAINT. so i DROPped the constraint with
ALTER TABLE RiverinStates DROP CONSTRAINT Fkriverinstates
even after DROPping the constraint, im getting the same error

I have a database of 25 GB. I truncated a table which holds around 5 GB of data.
Even after truncation, I see my database size as 25 GB...
Should I run a shrink database after the truncation?

The first select is returning 0 rows as expected. But after doing the rollback I expected to yet see 0 rows as truncate is not logged so cannot be rolled back. But to my suprise I see that there are rows.
So the rollback is rolling back the truncate table statement. Can someone please explain this????

I want a user to run a procedure that truncates a table. Both the procedure and the table are owned by dbo, however the system says that the user can't truncate the tables because she doesn't have permission. The user has dataread and datawrite global permissions, and I do not want to give her dbo perimssions.
Is there a solution to this?

I have developers that from time to time need to move data between their databases usinge the DTS wizard. Most of their tables have identity columns and in order retain the identity seed, they need to click on the option to enable identity insert. This option isn't available to non administrators.

All of a sudden (!) I began to get this error whle attempting to run a multi-step job: This is during a very simple T-SQL statement.
Executed as user: EPRODSQLAdmin. Cannot TRUNCATE TABLE 'HR.dbo.Employee' because it is being referenced by object 'v_apps_Employee'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3729). The step failed.
Tables are being referenced by views all the time... Why would I begin to get this message?
The only thing I can think of is that I had just made my first "indexed view" ever, and it is in this database. Could that be related to the new error message?
