I would like to write code to delete and add a SQL Login to every User database on my development server.
Whenever I restore databases to dev using production backups the SQl Server logins are invalid and I need to delete them from the user database and add them again.
I've already hard-coded a sql server job with n steps... a step for each user database to drop and add this sql user to each database. This isn't optimal since I have to add or delete a step everytime a user database is added or deleted.
Does anyone know how to write a loop or cursor that does this dynamically?
I am doing something syntactically wrong related to the GO statement.

I added a database role ReadOnlyRole and clicked the box next to db_datareader in the owned schemas box. Then I tried to remove the ReadOnlyRole and could not. How do I undo what I did? I'm trying to drop logins from my server and anytime, I try to drop them. system gives me Msg 15175. Login XYZ is aliased or mapped to a user in one or more databases. Drop the users or alias first. I dont want to go to database and drop the user and then come back and drop the login. Why doesnt it do that in one short?
Can anybody please help me with that?

I've got a Windows login, which I cannot drop. I have checked about everything I can think of and can't find a connection to this user. Is there a script which anyone has which will list all object referencing this users? SQL 2005 ENT x64. It's a windows domain user.

Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command.Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. I am unable to drop the above login. The error is Error:15141 The server principal owns an event notification and cannot be dropped.
I have looked in the table sys.server_event_notifications and there are rows returned that have a server_principal_id of the user I am trying to drop. No events have been created on this server, so I am assuming these notifications are either created by default or are somehow related to Database Mail?
All the event notifications belong to service name "SQL/Notifications/ProcessWMIEventProviderNotification/v1.0" and begin with SQLWEP (i.e. SQLWEP_RECHECK_SUBSCRIPTIONS, SQLWEP_B415ADB8_A604_4057_976F_600002FA5AF6). How can I find out what these are for and how they were created?
What purpose do these event notifications have? Is there some syntax to change the owner of these event notifications so I can successfully drop the login? If the only way is to directly update the system view, is this safe and what repercussions could this have?

I tried to research on the internet and i got a solution on changing the permissions for this database to enable user SystemName/ASPNET, but iam not able to access this ASPNETDB.MDF from SqlServer and if i go to server explorer in vs2005, i dint know where to chage the permissions.

so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them:
"Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'"
Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error.
I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed'
This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Hi I have asp.net2 app using SQLExpress which works fine in VS2005.
When I compile it and try to run it from IIS on the same machine using the same

I just installed Visual web developper 2008 express with all options including SQL srvr express 2005!
This is from default iso image on the official website.
I create my first project and when I want to do ASP.NET configuration from web site menu, i got this error:

I am getting the above error. On server1 I am running a dts package via a sql server job (sql server2005). This has been working perfectly for over a year. This package needs to access a database on server2. The database in question on server2 was recently restored from our produciton environment to refresh the data. Every since thsi time the job on server1 is failing with the above error.
Steps I have taken so far:
droped the user from server2 and recreated it

I'm using Visual Web Developer, .NET Framework 2.0, ASP.NET 20., IIS 5.1. on Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have assigned every possible user i can think of full permissions to the web folder, all of the subfolders, and the database files. This includes Administrator, Administrator Groups, ASPNET user, IUSR_Machine, Interner guest account, Network Group, Network Service Group, Power Users Group, Users.
I'm logged on as administrator.
When i run the web service from within VWD, i get this error.
Cannot open database "eBayTrader" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'DHJC2R91ASPNET'.
Does anybody know how to resolve this problem ?
I have been working on it for days. I will gladly pay someone to work this out with me over the phone/email. I'll send you a check before we start.

I have created a new database within SQLServer Express 2005 and have an ASP page in IIS. Any time i attempt to access the database I get the following error:

When I did an BCC INPUTBUFFER I found it was sp_MSadd_repl_commands27hp which is doing the insert into MSrepl_commands has any else noticed and issue w/ sp_MSadd_repl_commands27hp blocking itself. At the time I had about 10 million records to move. I was using the default log reader settings so I was batching them in 500 chunk intervals.
I am wondering if any else has had problems like this? I basically see it whenever I move too much data through my replication server.

Sample Scenario
Client 1 connects to SQL Server.
Client 1 runs a Transact-SQL command that starts a transaction and performs data modification.
For example: begin tran
update authors set au_lname = 'test'
Client 1 becomes IDLE, shows up as sleeping, and awaiting a command with an open transaction in the sysprocesses system table.
Clients 2 through 255: Approximately 254 more clients log on to SQL Server and issue a SELECT from the authors table. These clients will all become blocked on the original update.
Client 1 tries to commit the transaction but it becomes queued because all the worker threads are tied up by clients 2 through 255.
I am afraid that I am seeing this more then I would like does anyone know a way to prevent this from happening?

I'm checking the server log and my attempt to log into one database works. When I try to login to the second database I get this logged:
Login failed for user 'xxx' (Client {my ip address} )
Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16
When I go to the database server and pull up the user, both the original and second database are checked in the User Mappings at the Server Users level. If I set master to the intial database, the first database, or the second database as the initial catalog....I can access the first database but not the second.
No I have not found one word written for SQL Server 2005 that I could find that states THIS IS HOW YOU ENABLE LOGIN FOR A DATABASE, however since I've not found anything different between the DB that works and the one that doesn't then I must assume I've done things right.
The only thing that is odd on the server is that there are two different logins created with different names but for the same user. I've made sure that database 2 is checked for both user records. I tried to purge the duplicate but I get a DROP failure and don't have the time to try and interpret SQL Servers' obscure error messages.
I need to get access before 3PM EST and would love any help on this brick wall ASAP. Thanks.
