How To Execute A Selectcommand On Button Click?

Jan 9, 2007

Hello friends
Can anyone tell me the means by which I can populate a label or a datagrid by executing a selectcommand statement on the form of my webpage. And what is the best way to retrieve data from a SQL datasource, is it by using separate sqldatasources for each different parts of a page that requires different data from different tables in the same database or by using a tableadapter to retrieve the data for the best performance?
Thanks for replying for my previous questions. It was helpful and great in my program implementation.
Thank you

Gridview Button For Calling Sqldatasource.update Fails

Aug 1, 2007

<!-- Trying
to create a GridView Survey form:
    Hi [User]
    Do you have these assets?

    Tag Number   Response
    123
[Yes ] [No] [Comments textbox]
    234
[Yes ] [No] [Comments textbox]

Goal: The desire
is for the user to click Yes or No and have the database updated with the
user's name, date, response and any comments.

So far, I have
created SqlDataSource with Select and Update commands, created the gridview and
response buttons, setup the RowCommand and On_Updating Functions.

Problems:1) If I call the update() function for SqlDataSource1 and misuse the Defaultvalue parameters to run the sql, no update is posted to the database.

2) If I use the On_Update function to set the parameter values, I get "Data type mismatch in criteria expression."  (Additionally, the On_Update function runs twice which I don't understand)Can anyone tell

Help! The Transaction Log Is Full Error In SSIS Execute SQL Task When I Execute A DELETE SQL Query

Dec 6, 2006

Dear all:

I had got the below error when I execute a DELETE SQL query in SSIS Execute SQL Task :

Error: 0xC002F210 at DelAFKO, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "DELETE FROM [CQMS_SAP].[dbo].[AFKO]" failed with the following error: "The transaction log for database 'CQMS_SAP' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

But my disk has large as more than 6 GB space, and I query the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases which return value as "NOTHING".

So this confused me, any one has any experience on this?

Many thanks,

Query Designer Toggle Button Not Present

When I create a Report Server Project Using Visual Studio 2005 with SQL Server 2005 I can create a data source with no problem and the test shows it is good good.

When I next create a report and go to the query builder using that same data source and click on the query builder button I see the Query Builder screen, but there is no toggle button in the top left of the screen so I cannot go into the graphical mode to see the tables.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Visual Studio and SQL Server but I still have the same problem. What should I do to get the button visible on the screen?

RDLC Client Report And Query Parameters And Print Button

Feb 9, 2007

Hi, this is my first post here. I hope to be helpful trying to help and not only asking questions arround here. After I have my report ready I will share here the total experience from top to bottom!But for now, here's the issue:

I'm building a RDLC Repor on my ASP.Net VB web application. I added the .rdlc file to the application and created a table to show lines of data binded from a dataset. The thing is:

- The DataSet expects a parameter @intNumber, a identifier to get the correct data to display the correct report.

- I'm using ReportViewer to view the report, and by code I've passed a Report Parameter to the *.RDLC report with success, just like this:

Dim parms(0) As ReportParameter
parms(0) = New ReportParameter("intNumber", 37)
ReportViewer1.LocalReport.SetParameters(parms)

The present issue is the following:
I want to use that parameter sent to the report to be sent to the query of the DataSet as parameter to the query to return the data to fill the report. I've heard that this is not possible, just with report server...

Another issue is the print button, also heard that only can appear on report server...no way to display and work on RDLC reports?Very confused right now...these issues are stupid, MS tools should allow these operations, which are not efficient if this is not possibla on RDLC...

Execute SQL Task To Update Variables

Jun 30, 2006

Hi there

I'm attempting to update a variable using the Execute SQL task, I've read a lot of posts on this and seems reasonably simple but obviously not. The first time I ran it the variable was updated correctly, I then manually changed the variable value and since then it doesn't work.

I have a task with the following properties;

Resultset: SingleRow

SQLStatement: SELECT MAX(Player_Daily_Data_Pull_Date) as 'PlayerDaily' From Job_Control

On the resultset tab I have the resultsetname = PlayerDailyand the variable I want to update.

The variable has a type of datatime and it's scope is the container that I'm running the sql task within.

Any help would be appreciated.

Derek

Execute SQL Task With Update Statement

Aug 14, 2007

I am running an update statement in an execute sql task, it will run one time but then fails after that. Whats going on?

Here is my query I'm running.

UPDATE encounter
SET mrn = r.mrn, resourcecode = r.resourcecode, resgroup = r.resgroup, apptdate = r.apptdate, appttime = r.appttime
FROM SCFDBWH.SigSched.dbo.EncounterNARaw AS r INNER JOIN
encounter ON encounter.encounter_number = r.Encounter

What I'm doing is pulling info from a flat file, inserting it into the encounter table, I then run this sql statement to pull additional info from another table on another server, and update the encounter table with the corresponding info. Pretty straight forward. But what is really getting me is that the package will run 1 time but if I wait ten minutes and try running it again it bombs. Any ideas?

Remote Update Having A Linked Server Takes Forever To Execute

Oct 17, 2006

UPDATE CD SET col1=SR.col1,col2=SR.col2,col3=SR.col3,col4=SR.col4,col5=SR.col5,col6=SR.col6,col7=SR.col7,

col8=SR.col8,col9=SR.col9,col10=SR.col10

FROM LNKSQL1.db1.DBO.Table1 CD

join Table2 USRI on USRI.col00 = CD.col00

join table3 SR on USRI.col00 = SR.col00

Here, I'm trying to tun this from an instance and do a remote update. col00 is a primary key and there is a clustered index that exists on this column. When I run this query, it does a 'select * from tabl1' on the remote server and that table has about 60 million rows. I don't understand why it would do a select *... Also, we migrated to SQL 2005 a week or so back but before that everything was running smooth. I dont have the execution plan from before but this statement was fast. Right now, I can't run this statement at all. It takes about 37 secs to do one update. But if I did the update on a local server doing remote joins here, it would work fine. When I tried to show the execution plan, it took about 10 mins to show up an estimated plan and 99% of the time was spent on Remote scan. Please let me know what I can do to improve my situation. Thank you

Integration Services :: Execute Task Does Not Update From Date Variable Reliably

Oct 23, 2014

I'm using a DateTime variable in SSIS 2008 that is used to set the SQLStatement property of an Execute SQL Task.

"DELETE FROM Labor WHERE Week = '" + (DT_WSTR, 100) @[User::Week] + "'"

Week is the next Sunday:
DATEADD( "day", @[User::DaysTillSunday] , @[User::TheDayThatIsTwentyMinutesPrior] )
DaysTillSunday:
DATEPART( "dw", @[User::TheDayThatIsTwentyMinutesPrior] ) == 1 ? 0 : 8 - DATEPART( "dw", @[User::TheDayThatIsTwentyMinutesPrior] )

TheDayThatIsTwentyMinutesPrior:
(DT_DATE)(DT_DBDATE)DATEADD("minute",-20,GETDATE())

The SSIS Package deletes the current week's data, reloads it with fresh data, then calculates the difference between the current week and last week.

The problem is that randomly, instead of deleting the current week, it will delete the previous week.  This happens maybe 5-10% of the time.  At least it does until I rebuild the package and import it into SQL Server again.

I'm guessing that the Execute SQL Task is not updating the value of the Week variable before it executes.  I started with the source type being a variable.  Then I decided to try Direct input and pass in the Week as a parameter (OLE DB Connection Type).  That didn't work either.

Most recently I tried writing the Week variable to a table first, then having a sequence container with all the tasks second.  Slightly better but I still saw the date was wrong 2 times in about 90 executions.  I was hoping that writing the Week variable out to the database would force an update of any associated connections to it, but that didn't seem to work.

Integration Services :: Logging Record Counts To Execute Task For Table Update

Jun 20, 2015

Have an SSIS package running great in 2008R2. It generates several flat files based on inline database queries. The first step of the package inserts a record into a log stats table and the last step of the package updates this record with the package name, run time and execution status. Now I need to add the records counts for each flat file to the log table.

Is there a way I can update one field for run counts with each of the counts for each file. So the [run counts] table column would look something like:

file1: 43522
file2: 645367
file3: 7883

Is it possible to store the record counts and flat file names in variables then concat them at the end when updating this record?

Or, is a better way to just insert/update a new record for each flat file step and log the counts for that file for its own record?

In either case, how I can capture the file count and pass that to the update statement.

SQL Server 2008 :: Merge Statement Takes Several Times Longer To Execute Than Equivalent Update

Jun 20, 2013

Problem Summary: Merge Statement takes several times longer to execute than equivalent Update, Insert and Delete as separate statements. Why?

I have a relatively large table (about 35,000,000 records, approximately 13 GB uncompressed and 4 GB with page compression - including indexes). A MERGE statement pretty consistently takes two or three minutes to perform an update, insert and delete. At one extreme, updating 82 (yes 82) records took 1 minute, 45 seconds. At the other extreme, updating 100,000 records took about five minutes.When I changed the MERGE to the equivalent separate UPDATE, INSERT & DELETE statements (embedded in an explicit transaction) the entire update took only 17 seconds. The query plans for the separate UPDATE, INSERT & DELETE statements look very similar to the query plan for the combined MERGE. However, all the row count estimates for the MERGE statement are way off.

Obviously, I am going to use the separate UPDATE, INSERT & DELETE statements. The actual query plans for the four statements ( combined MERGE and the separate UPDATE, INSERT & DELETE ) are attached. SQL Code to create the source and target tables and the actual queries themselves are below. I've also included the statistics created by my test run. Nothing else was running on the server when I ran the test.

Server Configuration:

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1, Enterprise Edition
3 x Quad-Core Xeon Processor
Max Degree of Parallelism = 8
148 GB RAM

SQL Code:

Target Table:
USE TPS;
IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.ParticipantResponse') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE dbo.ParticipantResponse;

[code]....

Update Query To Update Separate Chars

Mar 26, 2007

Hi! Select gets all records that contains illegal chars... Ok, to replace '[' { and some other chars I will make AND '% .. %' and place other intervals, that is not the problem.The problem is: How to replace not allowed chars ( ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) etc. ) with '_' ?I have seen that there is a function REPLACE, but can't figure out how to use it.  1 SELECT user_username
2 FROM users
3 WHERE user_username LIKE '%[!-)]%';

Log The Query Of The Execute Query Task

Mar 23, 2007

Hi,

I want to log/watch the query executed by the "Execute query Task". It's a query with different variables, the different variables i can see in one of the debug windows and these looks OK, but the query doesn't do what's expected. So i want to see the whole query, is that possible?

Query logging on the database server isn't an option. The server is an oracle server and the dba doesn't want to change this setting.

Thanks,

Dennis
