Today I attempted to install SQL Reporting Services on a box that only has the OLE DB driver for Analysis Services and the MSXML components; both of which are SP2.
When running the SQL Server 2005 install to install SSRS, I get an error:
"SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."
This box has barely anything on it aside from ProClarity Analytics Server and the components I mentioned above. My only guess is that the SQL 2005 installer sees some newer components that are SP2 and it thinks they are beta? I know for sure I do not have any beta software on this machine.
I have done a full Sql Server install on a server and the SSIS service is not available. Normally when I load Sql Server I get €œSQL Server Integration Services" as a service that I can start. On this machine it is not listed after the install. I don't get any errors through out the install.
I have tried this several times and each time get the same result. I even installed Visual Studio 2008 beta 2 - everything but SQL Server Express installed fine. The error I get when running the SQL Server 2005 Express download is (from the log file):
Doing Action: Do_sqlScript PerfTime Start: Do_sqlScript : Mon Nov 12 22:31:11 2007 Service MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS with parameters '-m SqlSetup -Q -qSQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS -T4022 -T3659 -T3610 -T4010' is being started at Mon Nov 12 22:31:11 2007 SQL service MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS started successfully waiting for SQL service to accept client connections Service MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS started at Mon Nov 12 22:31:18 2007 SQL_ERROR (-1) in OdbcConnection::connect sqlstate=IM003, level=-1, state=-1, native_error=160, msg=Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 193 (SQL Native Client).

Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
I have no idea what the error is or how to fix it; I've enountered a number of postings related to install errors but none match exactly.
I do have the full log. Thanks in advance for any/all help!
I have a dedicated server running SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2003. Can I install SQL Server 2005 express so that I can run sites developed with VWD Express. I still have the sites that need to use the sql 2000 server. Thanks

I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!
I'm working on my first stored procedure, having just watched a video about how to use them. I have a working procedure that looks like this:set ANSI_NULLS ONset QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ONGOALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[InMateSearch] @State nvarchar(255) AS BEGIN DECLARE @SqlString nvarchar(255) SELECT [FIRST NAME], [LAST NAME], [STATE] FROM members WHERE suspend=0 AND (State=@State OR Country=@State)ENDWhat I need to do is build the WHERE clause of the SELECT Statement based on the values of the parameters passed in. There will be a lot of them, but State will do for an example.I want to assign a variable, say SqlString = " suspend=0". Then I want to check the value of @State which is a parameter being passed in, then do something like this:If @State <> "" then SqlString = SqlString & " AND (State=@State OR Country=@State)" so that I'm only filtering by state if the state parameter isn't empty. Then I would like my SELECT statement to look like: SELECT [FIRST NAME], [LAST NAME], [STATE] FROM members WHERE (SqlString)I'm declaring SqlString as the video indicated, but in the video the variable is assigned a value from the database. I think I need a different kind of variable. If I try to do something like SqlString = "test" or @SqlString = "test" I get an error. Once I define or declare a variable I can use to build the string, how do I assign it to the WHERE clause?Diane

My SQL server 2005 is standard version, OS Windows server 2003 sp2, I am using Administrator account to install it.
Can i install a 32bits version of SqlServer on a Machine running Vista 64bits.
Now i'm having a 64bits development version installed but due to the fact that i can't use 32bits odbc drivers from that version this is blocking me seriously.
Before uninstalling i would like to check if this can be done.
Hi I am developing a Report Project ,that contains some reports using VS.Net ,My task is to install these reports on client Machine. Is there any option to add a "Set Up Project" to the Report Project solution, so that client may run this setup project(.exe) to install the reports in his server.
My Main requirement is , client can install these reports into his machine by executing a set up file. Is this possible?, Please suggest me a good solution
I would like to install the components I need to develop a SSIS custom component. Is there an SDK or install option for just the visual studio components?
My coworker tried install SQL server 2005 on a server. The server already has a desktop engine running as "MSSQLServer". Because the new sql server 2005 need running as a default instance. So he still using "MSSQLServer" as the instance name.
After installation, the service's running file seems still point to the old location. When view the properties on Management studio, it still report as "desk top engine" and the version is 8.xx..xxxx.
My question is, 1. What has been done during the installation? Is current desktop engine was upgraded? 2. In current situation, what can we do to install the SQL server 2005 as a default instance. Is there way to rename the desktop engine to a named instance?
First of all let me explain that I am a complete newbie to this SQL stuff. I am in the process of reading a book, and followed the books suggestions for what I want to do, but it doesn't work. I know this has been covered several times in this forum, but no one post in particular covered exactly what I want to do.
I want to copy the database from the server to my local machine.
First, do I need to have SQL running on my machine in order to copy the database? I do have Enterprise Manager running, does that mean SQL Server is running locally?
Secoond, I tried using the Copy Wizard, but when I get to the target list, my local machine is not listed. How do I get it listed so I can copy the database?
I hope my questions are not too stupid... but then I'd be stupid if I didn't ask questions.
I have a msaccess linked server that I use to execute sql 2000 stored procedures from a front end in adp (access data project) format without any problem, if it is used on the same machine where the sql server resides (with any user logged on). In any other machine on the local network where I also need to use it, I get an ole/db error message saying that the microsoft jet database engine can not open the file because it's allready opened exclusivly or because it do not has permissions. I created the linked server with both UNC and normal path with the same result.
Hi All, Is it possbile to define connection string for web and database server which is running on different machine. Note( Not same LAN). E.g (My Web Server is in London and Database server in Sydney). Please can any one help me.?? Thanks in advance...
I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 onto an already configured and validated windows failover cluster (server 2012) but the process is hanging after installing the setup files.
The last entry in the log is:
running discovery on remote machine
and I've left it hanging like this for 4 hours and nothing happens.
Hi and thanks in advance for your help. I have a dilemma and I need some expert help with this. I am trying to make a copy of a remote Database and then replicated the DB and it's contents on my local machine so I can build a test site to run data with. I tried to remot into the server machine but I guess that feature is not allowed by the honest of the remote machine. Since I build on my local machine and would like to be able to test data on my local machine.... I would like to copy the remote DB to my local computer and then I can run my test app on my local server. The version of SQL on the remote machine is SQL Express 2005 and I have SQL 2005 on my machine. Please give me how to accomplish this please.
I am kind of new with .Net development and really new with using SqlExpress. Here is my question, I hope it is easy:
I have a shareware program that I have been selling since 2000 and it was written in VB6 using a third party database program. What I would like to do is rewrite this application using C# and SqlServer Express. The program as it stands right now is about 5mb to download and install.
My concerns:
1) How do I embed and quietly install sqlserver express to the end user's computer without them having any intervention?
2) By using sqlserver express as my database how much extra overhead is going to be included in the install package? I want to keep the install package as small as possible and the user experience of installing the program as painless as possible.
Hi all! I know I might sound stupid, but I have this problem. I have developed my database on my laptop which does not use Active directory. Lets say I access the database with: SPIDERMANDB1 on SQL server, where the name of my laptop is SPIDERMAN, and the database is DB1. Now, I create an SQL script from sql server and make the necessary changes, like changing the computer name to say, SUPERMAN where my deployment server's name is SUPERMAN. But when I run the SQL script on the SUPERMAN server, it gives me an error like: "User or role SUPERMANDB1 does not exist in this database". I have deployed databases in this way on servers without Acive directory, so I'm sure its not a mistake on my side. So how am I supposed to go around this active directory thingi! Please help me out! I'm counting on u guys!
If I use GetDate() function from client machine (using "\ServerMachineSQLExpress" instance from client machine "ClientMachine"), then from where I will get the DateTime value ?
