UNION Joins

Oct 23, 2007

I am having problems producing the following report.

The function of this report is to list people who have not paid their account in 30,60, and 90 days.

In the BillingRun table, there is a dateprocessed field.
this is the date to check against the paydate field in the payment table.
i.e. if their account is in debit, check to see when a payment was last made.

Using the following columns:
Sitename , Child Name, Debt Age, Amount Outstanding,

Debt Age would be 30 days, 60 days or 90 days+
I am using a datediff(day,billingrun.dateprocessed,payment.paydate) to get the age of the debt.

Rpt_ageDebtorsForSite (@cmb1 as varchar(100)) with encryption as
Begin
Would suggest a union. i.e. create a select statement for the 30 days to 59 days UNION select statement for 60 to 89 days UNION select statement for 90 + days

i.e. SELECT S.SITENAME,C.FORENAME+€™ €˜+C.SURNAME,€™30 DAYS€™,TOTAL
WHERE DEBT BETWEEN 30 AND 59 DAYS OLD
UNION
SELECT S.SITENAME,C.FORENAME+€™ €˜+C.SURNAME,€™30 DAYS€™,TOTAL
WHERE DEBT BETWEEN 60 AND 89 DAYS OLD
UNION
SELECT S.SITENAME,C.FORENAME+€™ €˜+C.SURNAME,€™30 DAYS€™,TOTAL
WHERE DEBT 90 DAYS OR GREATER OLD
End

This is what i have so far,

CREATE procedure rpt_ageDebtorsForSite
(@cmb1 as varchar(100)) WITH ENCRYPTION
AS
BEGIN

SELECT DISTINCT

Site.siteName,
Child.surname + ' ' + Child.forename AS Child_Name,
datediff(day,billingrun.dateprocessed,payment.paydate) AS DebtAge
--

FROM Site
INNER JOIN
BillingRun
ON Site.siteID = BillingRun.siteID
INNER JOIN
payment
ON Site.siteID = payment.siteID
INNER JOIN
Child
ON Site.siteID = Child.siteID

select
amount
from
payment AS Amount_Outstanding

--WHERE
--site.sitename=@cmb1
END

The output should look like

Sitename: childname: debtage: amount_outstanding
HappySite mary 10 100

UNION ALL, Joins And No Joins

Feb 29, 2008

I have four tables which I want to return results for an advanced search function, the tables contain different data, but can be quite easily joined,

Table A Contains a Main Image, this image is displayed in the results
Table B Contains an Icon, this image is displayed in the results
Table C doesn't have an image in it but has a child table with a number of images associated to the table, in the UNION ALL statement I would Like to do a Join to get say the top Image from this child and print it for the row associated with table C.

Select title, description, image from tableA
UNION ALL
Select title, description, icon as image from tableB
UNION ALL
title, description, ( inner Join SELECT top(1)
from imageTableC where imagetableC.FK = tableC.PK)
as image from tableC

Could someone show me the syntax to do this, I have all the information printing to the screen, bar this table C image.

Stored Procedure Using UNION Joins Is Not Displaying Correctly... Can Someone Help Me With My Logic?

May 16, 2007

I have a stored procedure using UNION joins on three SQL queries.
Sadly, I'm only now learning how to use Stored Procedures, so if this is a really dumb question, please forgive me.  I'm not used to big UNION statements like this either... usually I'm just programming websites to serve information out pretty simply :)
I need to return one result set, sorted by date... one complete result per day.  eg: 5/15/2007 |  XX | XX | XX | XX | XX | XX |5/16/2007 |  XX | XX | XX | XX | XX | XX |5/17/2007 |  XX | XX | XX | XX | XX | XX |
Currently, when I run the query, I'm getting three separate date values for each date...
eg:5/15/2007 |  XX | XX | 00 | 00 | 00 | 00 |5/15/2007 |  00 | 00 | XX | XX | 00 | 00 |5/15/2007 |  00 | 00 | 00 | 00 | XX | XX |5/16/2007 |  XX | XX | 00 | 00 | 00 | 00 |5/16/2007 |  00 | 00 | XX | XX | 00 | 00 |5/16/2007 |  00 | 00 | 00 | 00 | XX | XX |etc
How do I fix this?  I've looked through my query ad naseum and don't see anything that sets me off as "wrong".
Here is the stored procedure if you can help.  I'd really really love the help!

C R E A T E  P R O C E D U R E  sp_ApptActivityDate

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Using Union ALL Or Union Kills Performance On Stored Proc

Jun 12, 2014

SQL Server 2008 r2...

I have a query which does 3 selects and Union ALLs each to get a final result set. The performance is unacceptable - takes around a minute to run. If I remove the Union All so that the result sets are returned individually it returns all 3 from the query in around 6 seconds (acceptable performance).

Any way to join the result sets together without using Union All.

Each result set has exactly the same structure returned...

Query below [for reference]...

WITH cte AS (
SELECT A.[PoleID], ISNULL(B.[IsSpanClear], 0) AS [IsSpanClear], B.[SurveyDate], ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY A.[PoleID] ORDER BY B.[SurveyDate] DESC) rownum
FROM[UT_Pole] A
LEFT OUTER JOIN [UT_Surveyed_Pole] B ON A.[PoleID] = B.[PoleID]

Joins On Views That Are Formed With Outer Joins

Nov 3, 2000

We find that a delete command on a table where the rows to be deleted involve an inner join between the table and a view formed with an outer join sometimes works, sometimes gives error 625.

If the delete is recoded to use the join key word instead of the = sign
then it alway gives error 4425.

625 21 0 Could not retrieve row from logical page %S_PGID by RID because the entry in the offset table (%d) for that RID (%d) is less than or equal to 0. 1033
4425 16 0 Cannot specify outer join operators in a query containing joined tables. View '%.*ls' contains outer join operators.
The delete with a correleted sub query instead of a join works.

Error 4425 text would imply that joins with view formed by outer joins should be avoided.

Any ideas on the principles involved here.

Union All Does Not Union All Rows

Hi all,

I have a Union All transformation with 4 inputs and one output when I debug the package the sum of the different inputs rows does not match the row count in output.

I don't understand, I've used the Union All transform many times and I've never seen this.

Any idea why this could happen ?

Ansi Joins Vs. SQL Joins

Oct 12, 1999

Hi,

Why is it that SQL joins (*=) run a little faster as opposed to ANSI joins(LEFT JOIN...)? Aren't they supposed to be almost identical?

The issue is this: we are promoting using ANSI syntax for the obvious reason (future versions of SQL Server may not support SQL Server syntax; portability, etc.)

However, the problem is the speed. What have others done about this? Do you use ANSI syntax or SQL syntax? HOw true is it that future SQL Server versions may discontinue support for the '*=" and "=*' join operators.

Use TOP With UNION

Jul 14, 2004

Hi

I just found out that I can do an ORDER BY clause on entire records set retrieve from a query that combines several sub queries with UNION from different tables with the same structure... so this is great to know, BTW, is this a new feature of MSSQL 2K ? I don't recall being able to do this in MSSQL 7 or 6.5.

Anyway, the main question is, can I use the TOP command in a query that has UNION in it?? Meaning, there are two queries (or more) from two tables (or more) and I need to fetch the top 10 records by an ORDER BY clause from the combined results, when I try to add each sub query TOP 10 the results are not correct at all, when I try to add TOP 10 only to the first query hoping that the analyzer will refer to the whole query, it's selecting TOP 10 from the first query and combines it with all the records from the others...

So, can anyone help? I hope the problem is understood.

Thank you,
Inon.

Need Help With UNION And SUM

Nov 8, 2004

Hi!

I am trying to join to different queries into one table ( I accomplished this)

Next I need to ADD or SUM the results of 2 rows to form a single row.

As you can see in the query below, I run 2 separate queries and use ' ' as a place holder for the UNION to work. I get duplicate rows, one with a value and the other with a '0'. I want to have a single row.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

UNION Vs UNION ALL

Dec 15, 2006

Just a pet peeve....

From BOL:

By default, the UNION operator removes duplicate rows from the result set.
If you use ALL, all rows are included in the results and duplicates are not
removed.

Why is it assumed that one would want the duplicates removed by default?
Isn't that what SELECT DISINCT is for?

Top 5 With Union.

I want to know the top 5 patterns in sales, the report will like this:

Month Top1 Top2 Top3 Top4 Top5

2005-06 A1 A2 A3 A4 A5

2005-07 B1 B2 B3 B4 B5

2005-08 C1 C2 C3 C4 C5

--- --- ---

What I did is:

declare @StartDate and @EndDate, set @StartDate and @EndDate

Delete AAAA (AAAA is a table)

Begin

While (@EndDate<somedate)

Insert into AAAA(sales, Month, Pattern)

Select TOP 5 sales, Month, pattern from sometables order by sales DESC

increase @StartDate and @EndDate by a month

End

Select * from AAAA

It works fine. My question is: Can I get rid of table AAAA? Is there a better way that just use Top 5 combine with something say Union? ( I tried Union and failed )

Thanks in advance,

SELECT OtherRows From Table 2 Where y = 3
I want to produce a LEFT JOIN between the result of each query, and return the resultant rows
I know this is not correct syntax:

(SELECT MyRows from Table1 where X = 1)
LEFT JOIN
(SELECT OtherRows From Table 2 Where y = 3)
ON
Tabel1.Row1 = Table2.Row2

but I think it illustrates what I want to do
If I do the WHERE after the join I only get where there is a righthand table
I cant get the syntax right, an example with the correct grammar would be very much appreciated
