URGENT: Windows X64, SQL 2005, ODBC - Setting Default Provider For A System DSN
Jan 6, 2006
In Windows Server 2003 SP1 (x86) with Sql Server 2000 I could use the following connectionstring no problem
DSN=Hello;
Now I am using Windows Server 2003 x64 and SQL 2005 and I get this error:
Provider is not specified and there is no designated default provider.
If i try Provider=MSDASQL;DSN=Hello; i get
Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.
for DSNless this works fine:
Provider=sqloledb;driver={sql server};server=(local);database=Hello;uid=sa;pwd=p wd;
but i am forced to use DSN as it is in a closed source application which uses set DSNs (the idea there being that you can change the connections how you like in ODBC)
This means that i need the ODBC provider name that will work in here: Provider=...;DSN=Hello;
and then to use whatever works in there as the "default provider" but i cannot find any information anywhere on how to do this!
While learning ASP.net 2.0, I was taught that the the default provider for the SqlDataSource was System.Data.SqlClient, and that I only needed to specify it as a provider when I put it in the web.config file. However, now (in VWDE 2008) when I add a SqlDataSource to a page, it adds ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient". Does this mean that it isnt the default anymore?
Hi,I have SQL Server Express Edition. I tried working out some ASP.NET Labs in my local system. Here is the link of the Virtual Lab which I tried. http://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/WebCastEventDetails.aspx?EventID=1032286906&EventCategory=3&culture=en-US&CountryCode=USI recieve this error in my local system. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)I tried working out solutions from various websites. But the no solution is effective. Could anyone help me in solving this issue.
Does the x64 version of SQL Server 2005 June CTP contain 64-bit versions of the SQL Server ODBC Driver and the OLE DB Provider? I am not interested in the .NET Managed Provider here, just the legacy ODBC and OLE DB drivers, and only 64-bit versions of those.
I am currently on XP x64 and am trying to run a .vbs file, which needs access to an access file when the following error pops up:
"Provider is not specified and there is no designated default provider" error code: 800a0ea9 source: ADODB.Connection
I have tried a bunch of stuff, but so far nothing has worked.
The following code is is question: set AccessDB = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") AccessDB.Open("DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & sMSAccessDBPath)
any help would be appreciated......could I run this with cscript.exe (in the WoW64 folder) in through cmd.exe?
Hi there! My provider does not yet support SQL Server 2005, they are still on SQL Server 2000. I put together a very basic login page, but it is crashing everytime I access it because of this problem, and sadly I am not advanced enough as yet to know how to remedy it! Can you help? Here is the error page, some of it; - Any ideas gratefully received! Russ.

I have an ODBC connection setup for Oralce RDB. This works fine in say MSAccess. Now I would like to add a SQL Server Linked Server to this ODBC driver (it is for RDB not regular Oracle), but I am not able to get this to work. What is the Provider String and Location / Catalog for using this type of ODBC? I setup DSN as 'name', Provider String as 'UID=user;PWD=pass;' and it seems it tries to connect but gives an error. "%SQL-F-SCHNOTDEF, Schema USER is not defined"
We have a SQL 2005 installed in Windows 2003 64 bit system, which has 16 CPU and 32GB RAM, but the performance is poor. SQL server is AWE enable and the sql start account with "Lock Pages In Memory". I checked the task manager and it looks that the SQL server used only about 300 MB memory. Here is what I found:
I have a server with SQL 2005 and I have second server with spesial database program on it from IBM and I have installed a spesial ODBC DRIVER from IBM so I can make a connection in system dns.
On my server 1 where I have the sql 2005 I have made a connection in system dns.
HOW CAN I TELL SQL 2005 TO CONNECT TO MY CONNECTION AND GET DATA FROM DER??????
I've just posted mywebsite andthis error keep being trhrown as soon as I access the DB I dont understand what is going on and if I dont get it working bu today will delivery date will expire and I will get in trouble... So anyone knows what is going on It says the following: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Here is my con string : <add name="ASPNETDBConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=p3swhsql-v09.shr.secureserver.net;Initial Catalog=myCatalog;User ID=MyID;Password='Mypassword"/> Thanks a lot
I am running SQL 2005 SP1 on Win 2003 Std x64 SP2. I get an error trying to connect using an ODBC System DSN connection. The ODBC connection gets the following error:
Connection failed: SQLState:'28000' SQL Server Error: 18456 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'
The SQL Server logs the following error:
18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.
I have tried this with several SQL accounts. I am able to login to the SQL Manager with the accounts without issue. It is only when trying to connect via ODBC that I get the error. I am currently downloading SQL 2005 SP2 to see if this will help with the issue. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
i just bought a brand new server and put windows server 2003 x64 sp1 on it then put sql server 2000 sp4 on that and set up a trusted odbc connection. however, it gave me the following error:
I am testing SQL 2005 Standard (32 bit) on a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit with 8GB of RAM? Should I enable the AWP Setting or not and should I change the maximum server memory (currently saying 2GB)?
God morning! I 've just installed SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit. One of my databases need to connect to seveal Oracle databases. - I tried installing 64 bit Orcale 9 on this server. Got a strange message that the application (Oracle 64 bit) could not be installed on a 32 bit server! Strange! - I installed Oracle 9 32 bit on the server, but I could not find ODBC driver in the Data sources! Neither the oledb under providers in MSS Manager Studio! - Same result efter several desintall and installation. A college copied the .dll files och run a script to register the dll files. We could then se the Oracle driver in the Database sources, but we could not create any connection. - We have even tried an 10G version of Oracle with the same result.
Is there anyone who succeeded installing Oracle on 64 bit Windows and could create odbc connection/linked server?
Hi I always get good reply from u all, thank you, I have copied my asp.net website from one server to another. they administrator made necessary modification on IIS manager . and able to see the website on browser. but now i can't loging to system using old password. I tryed to create new password then also it gives error System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, How can I set the provider-specific property? Please let me know whether my code is correct.
For example, I want set provider-specific property set DBPROPSET_SQLSERVERDATASOURCE for memory based bulk copy operation. //Initialize the COM library. ...
//Obtain access to the SQL Native Client OLE DB provider. hr = CoCreateInstance(...);
hr = pIDBInitialize->QueryInterface(IID_IDBProperties, (void **)&pIDBProperties); hr = pIDBProperties->SetProperties(1, rgInitPropSet); pIDBProperties->Initialize(); // set provider-specific property DBPROPSET DbPropSetFL[1]; DBPROP DbPropFL[1]; DbPropFL[0].dwPropertyID = SSPROP_ENABLEFASTLOAD; DbPropFL[0].vValue.vt = VT_BOOL; DbPropFL[0].vValue.boolVal = VARIANT_TRUE; DbPropFL[0].dwOptions = DBPROPOPTIONS_REQUIRED; DbPropFL[0].colid = DB_NULLID; DbPropSetFL[0].guidPropertySet = DBPROPSET_SQLSERVERDATASOURCE; DbPropSetFL[0].cProperties = 1; DbPropSetFL[0].rgProperties = DbPropFL; IDBProperties* pIDBPropertiesFL = NULL; hr = pIDBInitialize->QueryInterface(IID_IDBProperties,(void **)&pIDBPropertiesFL); hr = pIDBPropertiesFL->SetProperties(1, DbPropSetFL); hr = pIDBPropertiesFL->Release();************************************************************ and,in SQL Server 2005 BOL,it mentioned (ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.ko/dataacc9/html/6e14fefc-4e0b-4847-a833-4cf0abe65d50.htm)Description: To bulk copy, SSPROP_ENABLEFASTLOAD property is set to VARIANT_TRUE. With this property set on the data source, the newly created session allows consumer access to the IRowsetFastLoad interface.If the property is set to VARIANT_FALSE, IRowsetFastLoad interface is available through IOpenRowset::OpenRowset by requesting the IID_IRowsetFastLoad interface or by setting SSPROP_IRowsetFastLoad to VARIANT_TRUE.Are there any one who provide a sample of above red-mark's not blues?
We have 4 client machine and 1 server machine, that server have all the sql server 2005 database€™s.

Hi,I created a linked server for MS SQL Server 2005 Express to an Oracledatabase using the OLE DB Provider for ODBC. My ODBC Source uses theMicrosoft ODBC for Oracle driver.I'm using the OLE DB Provider for ODBC instead of the Oracle OLE DBproviders because those don't handle Oracle's Numeric Data Type well.When I set this up yesterday it worked fine. However I log in today andattempt to run sp_tables_exec against my linked server and get thefollowingOLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message"[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message"[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message"[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]".Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 41Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL"for linked server "WHATEVER".I can tnsping the server, and I have no trouble connecting with theOracle OLE DB providerI try to set up ODBC logging but the log file is blank -- same withattempting to set up logging for Oracle's network client. I've beendealing with crap like this the last 4 days, something works one day,then the next nothing (I've done nothing to change the configurationbetween these outages).Can anyone help me?ThanksFrustrated
I'm not able to see microsoft ole db provider for odbc drivers on sql server 2005. Anyone know which driver I should install to see it? I'm trying to create a linked server from as400 to SS2K5.
I cant find any odbc provider from my linked server.(SQL 2005) I am using MDAC 2.8 SP1 ON WINDOWS XP SP2 on my machine. What can i do to get odbc provider..?
I finally made data transfer between AS400 and SQL2005 work by using Microsoft OLE DB provider for DB2. I have tried other methods, some do not have build-in destination, some have unicode conversion problem. The only issue I have with this method is the peformance. For example, 300,000 rows load from AS400 take only 3 minutes with the ODBC connection in DTS, but more than 5 minutes with the microsoft OLD DB provider for DB2 in SSIS.
Does anyone have the same issue or figured out any tweaking that may speed up the transfer?

I was wondering if somebody could help me... the following error message appears when I run an asp page... I did a google search and nobody appears to have had a solution to the particular problem I have... it's completely baffling but I'm hoping it's a simple setting.
Firstly, I'm sure the coding the correct as the asp page runs on two different servers correctly. I recently got a new server and the script does not appear to work with the Date function in asp on this new server. I outputted the SQL to the browser and then ran it through the Query Analyser(QA) and guess what, it worked! But when I run the asp page the above error crops up... now when I run the SQL through QA and alter the date value in the format 'dd/mm/yyyy' the above error appears in QA.. if I've lost you at this point let me know...
The way ASP passes the Date value to my SQL DB appears to be confused and it's really confusing me as it works perfectly on two servers and not the new one... the new server runs newer versions of O/S and SQL so I'm not sure that is the case... I've changed the date settings on the server so they all three servers match each other... so I have no where else to turn... any help and pointers would be much appreciated!
Hi everybodyMy problem with sql server is the following one:I've got my backoffice manager application done with asp technologythat works on sql server installed on Win2000 and running on IIS5.what I've done is simply doing a backup of my db and moving the aspapplication on another server: Windows 2003 with IIS6 and sql serververs.8.Then I tried to set up everything as in the beginning on the previousmachine(Win2K), but I'm getting this error:Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]Server SQL inesistente o accessonegato.(translated would be "SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied")/sitowebsite/bom/login.asp, line 13....where in the line 13 is set the connection to the database:Conn.Open Application("DBsource")which should be driven by what is set inside the global.asa file:Application("DBsource")="Provider=SQLOLEDB;server=127.0.0.1;database=db_nam e;uid=db_uid;pwd=db_pwd;"Application("WS_DB_TYPE") = ( "SQLSERVER" )I tried to restore the database just not losing information and nothinghappens.I tried also to create a new user and modify the properties as itshould be from the previous settings in the db(db_owner,....etc), stillnothing.any clue is appriciated.many thanks in advance.
