Unable To Config SSRS

Mar 11, 2007

My machine is a Vista64bit running a 32bit SqlDev (only dbServices) and a complete 64bit SqlDev. I had to install the 32bit Databse because we have to use some ODBC drivers that can't connect with the 64bits.

When i look in the serices i'm seeing nicely Sql Server (BIT32) and SqlServer (BIT64). I've named the instance so that is is clear to me. But on Sql Server Reporting Services i'm seeing (MSSQLSERVER) as the instance. When i go into the Reporting Services Configuration tool it crashes whenever i try to apply a change ...

Any suggestions, or, where can i change it direclty in registry/xml file ??

Reporting Services :: Parsing SSRS Config File And Dynamically Changing File Path Of Config File In Code

Sep 2, 2015

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url.  My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?

Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.

I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).

Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.

Trouble With SSRS Config

May 18, 2008

Had trouble with this in the past. I always get through on luck and fiddling about long enough until now...

All brand new server. Can connect to this new server instance with Management Studio, and with Crystal Reports! Most of the Reports Services Config is now done apart from the very top item, Server Status, is still stopped, and times out when I try starting it - service starts, then stops. Seen this many times before - what causes it?

Database Setup is fine - default database ReportServer has been created and appeared in Management Studio.

Initialization item is grey and I can't even select it in the config window. Web Service Identity is the only other red item - not sure if it matters. Blue item Encryption Keys seems to require restoration or deletion to allow configuration...?

Why can't the Report Server connect to the SQL Server service?

Thanks
Mike

Add To SSRS Data Extension With Config File

Apr 18, 2007

Hello,

I try to add an data extension who take the information to connect to the database in a config file. But It's could not retreive the values corresponding to the key.

I'm using the class ConfigurationManager from the namespace System.Configuration.

ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["QueryModel"]

Without the config file, the extension is working well.... I got the impression that reporting service and Visual Studio BI don't find the config file.

If someone can help me or have some advices. I will be pleased

SSRS 2005 VD And IIS Config/settings Problem

Dec 3, 2007

We have SSRS 2005. The install put virtual directories under the website we wanted. We upgraded from Standard to Enterprise, and I put in virtual directories under the default web site so that the upgrade would work just fine. It did.

So, now I have 2 web addresses accessing the same database backend and the same files/folders on the same web server.

Someone added a mapping for .jsx extension and chose select all in the next dialog box and Reporting Services (under that web site) has not worked since. However, the one under the default web site works perfectly well. That leads me to believe that the files are fine, and the connection to the database is fine. I have tried deploying a report and it works.

The error I get from the http://server/reports interface is: Unable to connect to remote server

The error I get from the log files (ReportServerWebApp_) is:

Since it works with the same files and database on the default web site, and not on the website I want it to, I figure its an IIS setting or config problem/issue. I have looked at all the settings in the Properties for both Reports and ReportServer for both websites, but dont see a difference. I have also looked at the settings in the Properties for both web sites and while I know there are a few differences, there should be. (I did try to set them the same just to know, and it still didnt work). I have also deleted and recreated my Virtual Directories under the website I want it to work, with no success.

Anyone have any other suggestions, or links, or anything?

Thanks!

Unable To Connect To SSRS Within SSMS

Apr 9, 2008

Hi,
In a nutshell I'm unable to connect to SSRS within SSMS yet I can connect to SSIS, SSAS and the Database Engine within SSMS from the same named server instance ("BOODEMO")

"SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration" reports that service status SSRS (DEMO) is running.

The only other problem that I have found which may be linked is that within "Reporting Services Configuration Manager BOODEMO" there is a red circled crossed next to "Report Manager Virtual Directory", yet this application has just recently reported that I successfully created a virtual directory.

Any help or constructive guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kieran.

Unable To Configure SSRS For Forms Authentication

Apr 23, 2007

Hi all,

I need help regarding forms authentication in SSRS. I exactly followed the steps described in the article: http://blogs.msdn.com/bimusings/archive/2005/12/05/500195.aspx. However it doesn€™t seem to be working at my end. The only things that I didn€™t implement correctly are the two members of IExtension interface, here€™s the code for these two members;
public string LocalizedName
{
get { return "Naveed"; }
}
public void SetConfiguration ( string configuration )
{
//throw new Exception("The method or operation is not implemented.");
}

After performing all the steps mentioned in the article when I access http://<servername>/reports, it displays my login page alright, but when I submit the user credentials (whether right or wrong) it gives me:
€œAccess denied creating App_Data subdirectory€?
Description: For security reasons, the identity 'NAVEEDSIDDIQUIASPNET' (under which this web application is running), does not have permissions to create the App_Data subdirectory within the application root directory. ASP.NET stores the Microsoft SQL Express Database file used for services such as Membership and Profile in the App_Data subdirectory of your application.

Along with steps of how to grant the required permission. My question is why it is trying to create the new directory. Does it mean it is unable to find the database or does it mean something else? When I access http://<servername>/reportserver, it gives me:

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help

Could not load type 'Vantage.CustomSecurityExtension.Logon'.

Could not load type 'Vantage.CustomSecurityExtension.Logon'.

Could not load type 'Vantage.CustomSecurityExtension.Logon'.
Here €˜Logon€™ is the name of the code-behind class of my login page.

Please help me out in this problem.

Thanks and Regards,
Naveed

Unable To Deploy SSRS Report Models

Apr 11, 2007

I am having mucho difficulties deploying Report Models from my box.

I create a brand new report model project, I add a data source, a datasource view, and a report model. Everything builds fine. I setup the project to point to a valid SSRS Server (and I tried this on another person's box, everything worked fine), click deploy- enter the credentials, and the logon box just keeps popping back up instead of deploying.

When the credential box pops up, it has a "" in it. When I try this on another person's box, it works fine.

I just upgraded to SQL Server 2005 SP2, but I do not have Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

Could some of that be a problem?

Reporting Services :: Unable To Add SSRS Field Values?

Aug 4, 2015

I am having SQL query which has inner join table from another Database. The below highlighted query shows its values.

/*Trend and Capacity Report*/
SELECT MEA.DisplayName AS Cloud, MEB.DisplayName AS VM, OS.PropertyValue AS OS, CONVERT(varchar(17),PD.DateTime,113) AS Date,
VM3.VirtualCPUCount AS VCPU
FROM Perf.vPerfDaily AS PD
INNER JOIN vPerformanceRuleInstance AS PRI ON PD.PerformanceRuleInstanceRowId = PRI.PerformanceRuleInstanceRowId
INNER JOIN vPerformanceRule AS PR ON PRI.RuleRowId = PR.RuleRowId

[code]....

My request is to calculate total capacity of all available Virtual CPUs, Memory and Storage from 4 separate clouds:  'cloud1','cloud2','cloud3','cloud4'

Whenever I select =Sum(Fields!VCPU.Value) expression in Report Properties and assign it to a variable and assign that variable to a Text Box field I get the value as VCPU * (Number of VMs) which is not correct.

I am looking to get the value of VCPU from all 4 clouds above.

First i gave the parameter in my sql query in Data set (like WHERE COUNTRY = @COUNTRY) and i checked the Parameters tab in the data set. Here by default comes the Parameter Name: COUNTRY and Parameter value: [@COUNTRY].

Next i select COUNTRY Parameter in the Report Data Pane. and go to properties Here in General Tab: Name COUNTRY Prompt: COUNTRY, Select Get values from query in available values Tab (and also i tried with Select Get values from query in Default Value Tab) and Select Data set: Data Set1, Value field: COUNTRY and Label Field COUNTRY. And Click Ok

And tried to preview the report, it throwing below error

Previouly I was not able to view reports from my .ASPX page which contained a ReportViewer, after going throuhg some other threads I was able to create a snap-shot for my reports . But still I'm not able to view reports, each time I try to view the page I get a message box with a error as : "Unable to locate control SSRS 2005: oReportCell" the same error is displayed when i try to access my reports from "http://localhost/reports.....".
But the funny thing is I'm able to view the reports when I use the following URL: "http://localhost/reportserver/pages/reportviewer.aspx?/<report>". I have applied all the Hotfixes & installed the latest Service packs. Any suggestions ???????

"SELECT     TOP (100) PERCENT ITEMNMBR, TRXSORCE, DOCTYPE, DOCNUMBR, DOCDATE, HSTMODUL, UOFM, UNITCOST, EXTDCOST, TRXQtyInBase,

If i run the query on sql or use the view on ssr. The end qty is  not showing accurately.I ran it on another database it works perfectly. Then i noticed that the dex_row_ID of the second database is sequential as the date. But for the initial database it was not sequential as with the date.

Unable To Connect To SSIS Or SSRS On SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server Via Desktop Connection

Mar 8, 2008

Hi,

I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.

SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.

So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.

However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.

I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €œsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.

What do I do next please?

What's The Best Practice...1 Package Many Config Or Many Package W/1 Config

Apr 4, 2007

Hello all,

I'd like to know what's considered a best practice in the following scenario...

We're in the process of converting DTS to SSIS, our current SQL2K setup has one DTS package per database, each database and package are mirror images of each other, with the exception of connection properties and the files path's they pull from. (Occasionally there may be a one off Execute SQL Task that differs from package to package...but this will be handled in a different manner outside of the package from this point on)

From a administration perspective this has been somewhat cumbersome, as every time there is a schema change we need to update the transformations in each individual package...after updating 120 packages my index finger has a bad case of carpel tunnel!

My thought with SSIS is that I can create one package, with many configuration files (one for each database).

Now my question is, 1) is this a good idea? 2) Anytime we create a new database (New Customer = New Database) and need to create a new xml config file, do I have to create the config in BIS/SSIS package then redeploy the package?...or Can I simply add a new config file to the appropriate directory and reference this config in the scheduled job?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Can I Write SSRS 2008 Reports To Run On SQL 2005 SSRS?

Sep 12, 2007

Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?

If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?

I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.

The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.

Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?

Thanks!

IIS And The Web.config

Oct 31, 2007

Hi,My application is acting weird and the research I've done leads me to an answer why it's breaking, but not how to fix it.My web app is hosted by a remote company. I have the main website sitting in the root web directory and in a subfolder I have another application that will handle login and updating the content in the SQL 2K5 backend (not an Express DB).The website itself is able to pull in informaiton from the DB without any trouble, so I know it's able to connect to the DB and everything is peachy. The login app though is acting as though it can't get to the DB. I've applied the ASPNET schema to the DB using the aspnet_regsql.exe from the framework and the login application is using the same connection string as the main website.One thing to note here is that the website and the login app have seperate web.config files since they were developed as different projects.With my customized provider defined in the web.config for the login app I get this error on page load:"Parser Error Message: It
is an error to use a section registered as
allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This
error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an
application in IIS." If I comment out the custom provider, the page loads but when I try to create a user it tells me that "...the SQL Server couldn't be contacted. This may be because it doesn't accept remote connections." Thing of it is that it's not a remote connection and it's the same connection string and db as the other site.Now, the research I've done points at the two different web.config files, which makes sense. But how do I make the one web.config work for both the website and the subdirectory with the login app? Keep in mind that I can't create any new virtual directories or modify IIS since this is a remote hosting company.Can someone help me understand the fix with a little more clarity?

Config

Mar 30, 2007

Hi,

I'm kind of the first person at my new company to start a project using SSIS. My question(s) revolves around setup and configuration, maybe even best practices.

1. Connection Manager Config - What are some of the methods you use to config your connection managers? I was planning on creating a folder (C:SSISConfig or something) and keeping a config file for each connection there. That way it would be fairly trivial for each developer to also put said folder on there box for deving.

2. Solution set up - Are people creating solutions for each package or just using one Master solution and adding all the packages to that? Or maybe some combination, like having solutions for different areas of functionality or something..? I'm trying to figure out what the pain points are with different approaches.

If you have any other information or horror stories about SSIS that you think might help, feel free to pass them along.

Thanks,

-Ryan
