I have installed a copy of the SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition a few months ago. Two weeks I tried to apply SP2 and I got an error, and I thought a clean install would solve the problem. So, I went ahead to do the uninstall but I am not able to get pass MsDtsSrvr.exe as shown in the log below,

SQL Server Express 2005 Uninstall Failures
Apr 13, 2008This is getting extremely annoying. I cannot unistall another instance of SQL Server Express 2005.
I have had three different servers with the separate installs of SQL Server Express 2005. I remove the product (Backup Exec, Dell IT Assistant, Microsoft System Center 2007). I uninstall the third-party product and they leave behind SQL Server Express 2005. For what idiotic reason I do not know. Then I try and remove SQL Server Express 2005 and for the third straight time it fails.

How To Silently Uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express

I'm trying to perform a silent install/uninstall of SQL Server 2005 Express.
I manage to install silently, but when trying to uninstall with the following command line:
sqlexpr.exe /qb REMOVE=ALL INSTANCENAME=<INSTANCENAME>
there is one item left behind - "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client"
Does anyone know how to uninstall this as well?
Also, if MSXML 6.0 is already installed when installing SQL Server 2005 Express, when performing an uninstall with the above command line, MSXML 6.0 is also uninstalled, which may not be the desired outcome.
SQL Server 2005 Express - Service Pack 2 Uninstall !??

On my backup server running Symantec BackupExec 11D, I wanted to install Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005 Express. I started performing the update using "Windows Update", but cancelled the upgrade process just before it started to install (right after the downloading/verifying download phase of Windows update).
Now when I try to find the SP2 update using Windows Update, it doesnt show up on the update website. Rebooting the server doesnt help. I manually downloaded the file for SQL 2005 Express SP2 and tried installing it, but it says "the component is already installed" and I have to exit the process.
BackupExec 11D is running fine as of now, and it might not face problems later.. but I am not sure. Is there any way to uninstall SP2 and re-install it again!??
Any guidance/pointers is greatly appreciated!

I was told to uninstall and reinstall clean but now SQL Server does NOT show in the Add/Remove Program list but when I try to install, my system says I already have SQL Server installed. Jul 17, 2007I have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit installed but there is something from with the installation since every time that I try and create a Report Server Project It gives me error
Could not load file or assembly "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer, Version 9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannopt find the file spesified.
How can I reinstall it or repair the installation so it will work. I have uninstalled every SQL2000 component in Add Remove Programs and reinstalled them. The problem is however that I cannot see an entry for "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit" in the Add Remove programs in Windows XP Profesional.
Can someone please help me. Maybe tell me where the uninstall file is located on disk??

I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok.
Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again.
I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services.

Visual Studio 2005 Unable To Connect To SQL Server Express 2005

I have VS Pro 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005 installed on an XP Pro machine. When using VS 2005, in the 'Server Explorer' window I can see and attach to two SQL Server databases that I have set-up. But if I attempt to access the same databases from withn the 'Solution Explorer' window I get the following dialog box message,

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled both VS 2005 and SQL Server Express twice but it has helped.
I don't understand why I'm getting this error because all of the server configuration tools and connection utilities seem to work fine but VS say's that SQL Server Express is not installed.

I had another application that required MSDE 2000A to be installed. When I removed the other application I also removed MSDE 2000A and that's when the problem began.

I am currenltly working on a scripted install of SQL 2005 Express SP2 with Cumulative update 5 and am experiencing some very frustrating problems.
I need to provide the ability to script the install and script the deinstall, both of which are fine. However..
When i try to uninstall SQL from the script (or manually from add/remove programs) i get the following error
The installer has encountered an unexpected error. The error code is 2709. The specified Component name ('SxSComp.42B34EA79EE84812AF478E608EA6C2F8') not found in Component table.
The error occurs when the SQL 2005 uninstaller attempts to uninstall the workstation components, the result is a partial uninstall of SQL 2005 which becomes very difficult to uninstall.
Would appreciate any assistance anyone could provide me.

Cannot Uninstall SQL Express 2005 Instances

In Windows Installer Clean Up, it shows two instances:
MSSMLBIZ (used by Outlook Enterprice 07 with BCM)
Control, Panel, Add Remove, Remove SQL Express 2005, shows:
CSOLUTION (which is disabled)
MSSMLBIZ (enabled for BCM 07)
SQLEXPRESS (which is disabled)
The disabled instances will not start due to various error messages.
Under Computer, Manager, Services, more instances are listsed, which also will not start:
SQLEXPRESSDATA for example (which is disabled)
I would like to remove CSOLUTION since it is not used; it will not remove from control panel or manually via http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/909967 . You get various error messages, such as
Another application has exclusive access to the file c:program files...errorlog. Please shut down all other applications, then try again.
Even after a reboot, I still get this error.
I want to install and use instance SQLExpress, and I cannot remove it, but it will not start, and trying to reinstall it fails.
It was simple under MSDE 2000, no2 it seems to be impossible.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Honestly, I would like to uninstall SQL Express 2005 completely (except the BCM instant), and start over, but canot find a way to do this. SQL Express is a mess, I have spent days trying to resolve this, and am still where I started.

Unable To Completely Uninstall Advanced SQL Server- Report Server
Jul 5, 20061) I uninstalled Advanced SQL with Report Server to install 2005 SQL Developers Editions.
2) For some reason I am unable to completely uninstall Express Report Server.
3) Configuration Manager is still showing SQL Exp Report Server, even though I uninstalled Advanced Server.
4)I tried to remove though A/R programs (using my 2005 DE) - I see it listed but I receive the following error:The setup failed to read IISmime maptable the error code is -2147024893.
5) When I try to use 2005 Report Service Config Manager, I receive the following error: An unknown error in WMI Provider Error code 80040219 wmi provider.
So I am unable to setup my 2005 SQL DE Report Server.
Any ideas on uninstalling Express Report Server...This might be part of my problem.

I have installed SQL Server 2005 express edition on Windows 2003 Server, but i am unable to make a connection using
sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname>
but i am able to make the connection using
sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename>,<portnumber> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname>
What could be the possible reason for this and how can i configure sql
server 2005 express edition to make connections without specifying any
portnumber in the connection string. Both the sqlserver database
service and browser services are running.

Jul 28, 2007I have been trying to install BCM 07 and Accounting Pro 07 for a couple days now with the same SQL Server Express eroor. I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed.

So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there.

Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this?
How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch.

Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Express On A Vista Home Premium O/S

I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu.
Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message:
SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation.
Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person?

Unable To Install Database Services For Sql Server 2005 Express Edition
Apr 30, 2008i've tried to install sql server 2005 express edition several times but when it get to the 'database services' it gives the following error:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service configuration. The error was:
[Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'.

Unable To Connect Remotelly To Mdf.life On Sql Server 2005 Express Edition
Apr 17, 2007I have a c# application running on my machine. I want to point to a sql server data base express edition running on other machine. By default, from server explorer Ionly acces data base files of the local machine. I dont have acces to remote servers.
I used the file explorer and opened the mdf file on remote server. I tried to acces the mdf file remotely but i got excepcion.
My questios are:
- Is sql server 2005 express edition supporting remote connection to mdf data base file?
- In other words, I can remotelty conncect to mdf file from remote machine ?
So, I how can point my application to remote sql server 2005 express edition data base running on other machine?
Please, Help

May 4, 2007I have Vista Home premium installed on my system. I installed SQL server 2005 express SP2. When I am trying to attach Advetureworks database by using following script, i get the following error.I am logged in as administrator.What kind of permission i have to set so that i can install the database.Any help will be appreciated.Script is :

Cannot Uninstall Sql Server Express
Nov 23, 2006I have sql server express installed in my computer, but I want to uninstall it and install sql server 2005 entreprise edition.
I have successfully uninstalled instance of sql server, but I cannot uninstall the workstation.

How Do You Uninstall SQL Server Express Edition?
Jan 31, 2008While installing VS 2008, I chose the full install and it installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition. Since I do have a full version of SQL Server running on this machine, I would like to uninstall the Express edition. But I do not see the application listed in the Add/Remove Programs.

SQL Server Express Edition Uninstall Nightmare
May 15, 2008I have been trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for a day and a half to no avail. I have cleaned it out of the registry, and I have done everything possible to get rid of this, er, Microsoft virus software. I have erased every folder that has any SQL Server name after I stopped all SQL server services in the task list. All I want to do is install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition so that I can use the BI Manager to create a DTS package. Does anyone have any utilities that might help?

May 15, 2015This is probably easy for some who have done it, but I have an installed Instance of SQL Server 2008 Express or SQL Server 2008 R2 Express I'll call Instance CCC and need to remove it. I have two other Express instances I'll call Instance AAA and Instance BBB. I want to uninstall Instance CCC without affecting the other two instances or the software that uses them. Instance CCC should have been installed as a SQL Server 2012 Express instance, so I need to remove the 2008 Instance of CCC and reinstall it as 2012. In all cases, I'm talking about SQL Server Express. Full SQL Server is not installed.
The Instances are all installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard server.
I have read that I can do this through Control Panel > Programs and Features, but that I can corrupt or mess up the other instances (AAA and BBB) if I don't do it right. I'm uneasy about this, not having done it before, and do not want to affect the users of the AAA and BBB instances!
Unable To Reinstall Or Uninstall SQL Reporting
Jan 25, 2007I have VS 2005 and SQL 2005 Developer ed (OS Vista) installed on my pc. When I uninstall SQL 2005, I encounter an error for SQL Reporting (someting to do with unable to read some file). Since then I am unable to reinstall SQL Reporting or uninstall SQL Reporting. I removed all the files from the directory but still I have not been able to do....Please advice...

I went into add/remove programs,clicked on each of the entries for all of the associated services to remove them,then removed SQL Server 2005, rebooted, and the tasks are still listed in services.There are no entries in add/remove programs.I’m removing SQL Server in order to install Visual Studio first - I’ve still gota problem with the “Package Load Failure” that I posted about last week:http://forums.asp.net/thread/1402873.aspxCan anyone give me a clue as to how I can completely remove SQL Server?I’m running Win 2k SP4.Thanks!

Oct 27, 2006Hi all,Afetr a bad install of sql server 2005 which failed due to WMI problem; something that seems unfixable save a reinstall of windows.I am now left with a part installion of sql server 2005. From add/remove programs clicking 'remove' activates nothing as does change. However the files are there in program files.At start up I get multiple fatal errors etc.Does anyone know how I can unistall SQL server 2005 completely - perhaps from the command line?Or..how could I stop SQL server from trying to start at start up?All help most appreciated.TFM
