I was facing problems applying SP3 for Analysis Services so I removed it and then re-installed.
I then tried to apply SP3 but I am still getting v8.00.382 for AS (which represents SP1). I have tried a couple of things but it seems that SP3 is just not getting applied (for Analysis Services).
I have installed MS analysis service(OLAP) on my lap top
my user is in the Administrative group , other than that I tried creating a user with 'OLAP ADMINISTRATOR' privilate and tried to start the ms analysis service
I am getting the error , unable to start the service on server(), you are not a member of OLAP Administrators group
I tried to install the service pack 3 from Microsoft
Could you pleae guide me to start this serivice Thanks,
This one has really stumped me! I set up HTTP to connect to an Analysis Services cube within an ASP .NEt application. On inititial setup it worked well and I was able to connect and view the data in my ASP application.
However, for NO reason that I can see it is now coming up with the following error:
Either a connection cannot be made to the localhost server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Either a connection cannot be made to the localhost server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified.
I have tried everything I can think of to fix it but can't get it to work. I have even gone through the technet document titled "Resolving Common Connectivity Issues in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Connectivity Scenarios" but it hasn't helped.
I am using SQL Server (Analysis Services) 2005 and ASP .NET 2.0. The application is developed in VS 2005.
In our project, we would like to use the same data source for our analysis service database cubes and for our reporting service reports.
I created the analysis service project first, deployed successfully. When trying to setting up the data source in the report model project, I selected the "create a data source based on another object", and then selected the "create a data source based on an analysis service project". However, there is no analysis service project to select, and no browse button to see where the reporting service is looking for analysis service project either.
I have tried creating a new analysis service project with data source views, cubes, dimensions and all the stuff, but still cannot see the analysis service project in the drop down box to be selected for my reporting model project data source.
As I am fairly new to the reporting service, I'm sure I'm missing something, but couldn't find much information in the help or on the web. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
i have AAAA project create by BI, now i want to change my computer, so i get XMLA from AAAA project in BI and run it in analysis service XMLA query but it return follow error: Executing the query ... Either the user, PCHOMEmax, does not have access to the Analysis Services Project1 database, or the database does not exist.
Execution complete
i try another way: i click right mouse on my database from analysis service, so i choice "Script database as "--> CREATE to... and i get a new XMLA file so igo to another computer, and run it, SQL return follow error: Executing the query ... Either the user, PCHOMEmax, does not have access to the AAAA database, or the database does not exist.
Execution complete can i solve this problem. thanks
I was doing the microsoft example about cube to setup DSN SOURCE CONNECTION to ACCESS database (food mart) when i do a test

I created a CLR procedure with a service reference in Visual Studio 2010 that is being used in SQL Server 2008 R2. We recently tried to deploy it to a 2012 SQL Server, but were unable to due to compatibility issues. When I tried to upgrade the package to Visual Studio 2013 I got this error message:
Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Data.Tools.Package.Project.DatabaseFileNode' to type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Data.Tools.Package.Project.Internal.FolderNode'
I tried to create this using the 2012 Data Tools, but was unable to add a service reference with the GUI. It appears Microsoft has removed this functionality. My company has a third party app that we have limited control over, which is why we need this functionality.
I'm trying to connect to a database using a service account that we got created. The ID is an AD account and was added to the db as such. When I try to connect to the database using the account with the password I get [login failed for domainid]. The DBA mentioned that its setup to use windows auth, however, I can't connect with this service account using windows Auth, due to I'm using to connect via code.
How can I connect to the database from my code using this ID?
I have the ID and pwd in my code to connect with, does the ID have to be setup differently in the Database?
I have installed SQL Reporting Service on one server. Using the config tool, I am trying to setup the Reporting Database on a seperate SQL instance. This SQL instance is running on a Clustered SQL 2005 server.
The creation of the Database is sucessful. However when I give the Windows credentials to connect to this database on the same page, I always fail at the following task : Setting Connection Info for Reporting Server. The error message is :
"System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800706B3) at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo) at System.Management.ManagementObject.Get() at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetDatabaseConnection(String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String userName, String password)"
The Windows Account I am using has Full SQL Rights to the Clustered SQL Server. I have seen other posts on the forums about the 0x800706B3 error, but most of them are related to a problem with RPC.
The Reporting Services account is runing under 'Network Services'. I am not sure if this is causing the problem?
I am connecting to SSAS cube from Excel and I have date dimension with 4 fields (I have others but I don't use it for this case). I created 4 fields in order to test all possible scenarios that I could think of:
DateKey: - Type: System.Integer - Value: yyyyMMdd Date: - Type: System.DateTime DateStr0: - Type: System.String - Value: dd/MM/yyyy (note: I am not using US culture) - Example: 01/11/2015 DateStr1: - Type: System.String - Value: %d/%M/yyyy (note: I am not using US culture) - Example: 1/11/2015
Filtering on date is working fine:
Initially, in excel, filtering on date was not working. But after changing dimensional type to time, and setting DataType to Date, as mentioned in [URL] filter is working fine as you can see in the picture.Grouping on date is not working:
I have hierarchy in my Date dimension and I can group based on hierarchy, no problem. But user is used to pre-build grouping function of excel, and he wants to use that. Pre-build functions of Excel, Group and ungroup seems to be available as you can see in following picture:
But when user clicks 'Group', excel groups it as if it is a string, and that is the problem. User wants to group using pre-build grouping function available in Pivot table. I also find out that Power Pivot Table does not support this excel grouping functionality. And if I understood well, this pre-build grouping functionality of excel, needs to do calculation at run time, and that is not viable solution if you have millions of rows. So Power pivot table does not support pre-build grouping functionality of excel and hence we need to use dimension hierarchy to do the grouping. But I am not using Power Pivot table, I am using simple Pivot Table. So I expect grouping functionality to be working fine. Then I tried to do simple test. I created a simple data source in excel itself. And use it as source of my Pivot table. Then grouping is working fine. The only difference that I can see is (When double click the Measure value in Excel),For date values of my simple test, excel consider them as 'Date'.
For date values of my data coming from cube, excel consider them as 'General'
2.1. But value here is same as it was in simple test.
2.2. 'Date Filter' works just fine.
2.3. If I just select this cell and unselect it, then excel change type to 'Date' though for that cell.
2.4. I have created 4 different types of fields in my date dimension thinking that values of attribute of my dimension might be the problem, but excel consider 'General' for all of them.
2.5 This value (that can be seen when double clicking on measure) comes from 'Name Column' of the attribute. And the DataType defined is WChar. And I thought that might be the reason of issue. And I changed it to 'Date'. But SSAS does not allow it to change to 'Date' giving error : The 'Date' data type is not allowed for the 'NameColumn' property; 'WChar' should be used.
So, I don't know, what is the puzzle piece that I am missing.
1. Date filter works, group does not work
2. Excel consider it as 'General' string.
3. SSAS does not allow to change 'NameColumn' to Date.
I would like to know the best practice for running analysis service in terms of port usage. Is it better to run on a specific port or have dynamic ports ? We have clustered servers that run default on 2383 but not sure with non clustered what's the best way to get performance.
Hi Everybody, I'm working on a new database of 25GB in size with an expected 25% growth per year and an estimated 1000 TPS. Since I need to retain the old data for atleast 7 years. I would like to know whether I should Archive the database or is there any other means of storing the data, which will be used just to generate reports. Also pl. do let me know the advantages/disadvantages.

I want to replicate to an archive database. This means that the subscriber will have data that has been removed from the publisher. In my reading, I haven't seen any discussion of this specific scenario.
Here's what I imagine the solution might be:
EXEC sp_addpublication_snapshot @publication = N'My_Publication', @frequency_type = 1 -- only create the snapshot once GO
I set the publication snapshot to only execute once, that would be during the maintenance window when it is initially installed. Then, on the tables that will contain archived data, I specify that deletes aren't replicated.
Here's my concern: aren't there times when you need to resync?
If you could push a new snapshot that dropped the tables on the subscriber and built the thing up from scratch, then things would sync-up just fine. But in this scenario if you drop the subscriber tables then you've just lost your archive.
Apparently the query analyser of sql server does not recognise adatabase with a point in it, likemail.archive.mdfI receive the following error when I use it:Server: Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'mail'. No entryfound with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. Please help, thanksPrem
I have Installed Analysis Services on Windows 2000 Server. There is no Active Directory and no Domain configured. All client PCs and the server are part of Workgroup. I have also installed MS SQL Server on this Server and an instance of MS SQL Express edition on this server. There is no Firewall, no Office and no IIS installed on this server.
When I use Analysis Manager on the server, I am able to connect to the Sample Database and browse/edit the cubes. Similarly I am also able to use the Sample MDX application.
However, when I try to connect to the same database from my Laptop (Vista home premium/Office 2007) - either using Analysis Manager or From EXCEL, I am not able to connec to it.
The Excel gives me following error: "The following system error occurred: No Connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"
And Analysis Manager does not register the server. It gives me a different error: "Errors occurred while connecting to INTRANETNT. Cannot open connection to Analysis server 'INTRANETNT'. Security error [The user could not be authenticated]'' Do you still want to register this server?"
I am able to connect the SQL Server database from EXCEL from my laptop
I checked following: I am able to do a telnet on port 1433 on my server from my PC - and it connects.
Please advise what should I do to sort out the problem. This is my first exposure to Analysis Server
I've created a simple cube following the below link, but when I try to deploy the cube I am getting the below error.
[URL]
I tried to connect from SSMS to analysis service, (Connect - > Analysis Services ) I am still getting the below error. I saw the SQL browser is running.
One more strange thing I noticed is, in the services I do not see the Analysis Services ( Screen attached below)....
Is there any method by which I can use Stored procedures in Analysis services. I have some procedures which uses Temprorary tables. I wanna use those procedures's columns. Is it possible?
I am running XP in the office and already have SQL's Enterprise Manager and Analysis services installed - which I can use to access the SQL databases on our office server.
Question: I have installed the desktop version of SQL on my machine and am trying to register the server in the Analysis Service Manager but no luck.
I was doing steps on page 15 / 16 of attached sheet

Our company is doing some basic research into using analysis services as a solution for our customers. I've taken our database and built an analysis services project in BI Studio and deployed it to Analysis Services on my local machine I connect to Reporting Services in Management Studio, create a folder for the cube, give my Windows user acct. Content Manager permission, create the Data Source (conn string = "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Data Source=(local)SQLServer2k5;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=STI-PDB" -- copied from the Analysis Services project in BI Studio), and go to "Generate Model". What I get is an rsModelGenerationError, sub [Create Perspective From Cubes] with a connection issue at the base:
Either the user, <computername>Thomas, does not have access to the STI-PDB Database, or the database does not exist. () (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)
Now, in the Database Engine, my Windows account has the db_owner database role for STI-PDB and it's default schema is dbo, which all the objects are created under. What am I missing here?
I have one dimension and one measure group. I deployed and processed the cube. Now I am able to browse the data. Now I added one more dimension. I deployed and reprocessed again the Cube. Now I am not able to see any values. I am getting like below.
I give up, how do you start the Analysis Manager? SSAS is installed and running, but I just can't seem to find the button/shortcut/whatever to start the manager.
I am new to SQL Server and not quite understand the difference between OLAP server or SQL Analysis Service. Are they referring to the same thing?? An user asked me to confirm that the OLAP server is active on a server running SQL Server 2005, what do I need to check. The Analysis service is up and running, does it mean it is OK??
I created a SQL Server 2005 Analysis Service project. When I tried to deploy a standard Decision Tree model, it gave me errors (see below). Clearly, I can't use ntext data type with DISTINCT, but how can I change the SQL command since it was automatically created? What was the final impact of removing the DISTINCT word from the SQL command?
SQL queries 1 SELECT DISTINCT [dbo_Training_x0020_Data].[Hellos] AS [dbo_Training_x0020_DataHellos0_0]
FROM [dbo].[Training Data] AS [dbo_Training_x0020_Data]
Error Messages 1 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: The ntext data type cannot be selected as DISTINCT because it is not comparable.; 42000.
