Unable To Connect To SSRS Within SSMS
Apr 9, 2008
Hi,
In a nutshell I'm unable to connect to SSRS within SSMS yet I can connect to SSIS, SSAS and the Database Engine within SSMS from the same named server instance ("BOODEMO")
"SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration" reports that service status SSRS (DEMO) is running.
The only other problem that I have found which may be linked is that within "Reporting Services Configuration Manager BOODEMO" there is a red circled crossed next to "Report Manager Virtual Directory", yet this application has just recently reported that I successfully created a virtual directory.
Any help or constructive guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kieran.

I recent installed a named instance of SSRS 2005 on a remote server. The server has a side by side install of SSRS 2000 and SSRS 2005, with the SSRS 2005 being a named instance. The server also has SSL and MS Sharepoint Portal Server installed.
When I try and connect to the SSRS 2005 instance with my client install of Mangement Studio, I get the error message:
"The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish a trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. (System.Web.Services)
Additional Information: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure. (System)."
Obviously, this is a SLL issue, but, not being a security guru, I have no clue on how to fix this. I do know the certificate is valid, not expired and properly working. Both installs of SSRS are set up using the SSL certificate. Also, I am not connecting to SSIS with Management Studio, as I heard there is a bug connecting to both SSRS and SSIS at the same time.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!
Jeff

Hi,
I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.
SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.
So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.
However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.
I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €œsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.
What do I do next please?

I don't know if this is the correct forum, but I am hoping someone can help. I asked the question in the beginners forum but was able to get it resolved. If someone can help, please do,
Using the SSMS Import and Export Wizard, I am trying to export tables from one database into another within the same sql server instance but am getting the error message below. I tried exporting one table; still doesn't work. I copied the wizard generated CREATE TABLE sql statement and ran it in a query in SSMS without incident. I looked up ResultSet property in BOL but there is no entry for it; just ResultSets and ResultSetType. How does one set ResultSet? I have frequently exported to text files without this problem. Can anybody help resolve this?

Is there a roadmap for allowing SSMS to connect to a PDW (MS SQL2012 Parallel Data Warehouse) with full functionality? Current support leaves much to be desired without installing third party tools.

I've installed SQL Server 2005 SP1 RTM on a Windows 2003 R2 machine (machine A), and my local workstation (machine B).
From machine B, I can use SSMS to connect to SQL Server on machine A. This is using either "New Query" or "Object Explorer".
However, on machine A, SSMS can only connect to machines A or B using the "New Query" option. If I try "Object Explorer" for either, I get the error message "Failed to retrieve data for this request... urn could not be resolved at level Configuration."
I'm not sure what died (no pun intended) since the last time this worked. Any thoughts on this?

We are running SQL 2005 Standard on Windows 2000 Server Standard. We are trying to connect via SSMS with the Object Explorer to the server and it is failing with an error message stating:
"An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
Additional Information:
Error executing extended stored procedure: Invalid Parameter (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 22001)
Using profiler, I tracked down that it is a call to xp_instance_regread. This is something that SSMS is issuing - not me.
We've found in the past that rebooting the server fixes the problem. But it keeps cropping up. The only thing running on this server is SQL 2005 - so if something is monkeying with the registry - it's got to be SQL Server itself.
Querying works just fine - we can use the editor to perform queries without any issue - it's just explorer that goes kaboom.
We have SP2a installed on the server and on most (if not all) of the clients.
This is getting frustrating because it's a production server and we're having to reboot this to fix it.

Every time I start SSMS 2012 the "Connect to Server" box is partially obscured in that the top of it, the move bar can't be accessed. I've manually moved it using "alt+space" then "M" followed by the arrow keys, but it's getting annoying. Â Is there any way to change the initial start position of this box?Â

But when I tried to connect to Reporting Services from SSMS, I am getting below error.
I used the windows authentication. It is showing that the user name or password is not valid or you don't have permission to access this server
I can connect to the database engine and Integration services but unable to connect to the Reporting services.

Hi,
I am able to run an SSIS script from BI Visual Studio no problem, I am also able to connect to SSIS within SSMS successfully. I have system access rights to the Database Engine of the same server name.
However I have a user who also has full system access rights to the Database Engine of the same server name. However he can only connect to the database engine, he cannot connect to SSIS within SSMS, but he can successfully execute a SSIS script within BI Visual Studio which is targeted to the same server name which he can€™t connect to within SSMS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Kieran.

Stored procedure code is:

I have installed a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition instance with SSIS on Window Server 2003 x64. From my PC, I am able to connect to the Integration Services on the server using Windows Authentication but not with a local SQL login - and the option to change authentication methods is greyed out.
Is it possible to remotely connect to SSIS using a SQL login rather than a Windows login? If so, any ideas or references for configuring it as such?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have gone through so many kb articles to understanding the problem, but no luck as yet.
Here is the situation:
I have two dev servers : Server A and Server B. Both are set up in an identical fashion. Windows 2003 sp2, Sql Server 2005 sp1 Developer Edition, both are on the same domain, Both have all the three protocols enabled: Shared Memory, Tcpip, and Named Pipes in that order. I can ping both servers, and telnet using the default port. Both have only default instances. Both use the same domain user account for sql service. Both have the error in the log saying that spn could not be registered so authentication may fall back to NTLM.
Here is the issue: When I try to register Server A specifying tcp-ip connection, I am successful and I can see that the authentication is NTLM - is as expected. since the spn registration did not happen and since the sqlservice account is not a domain admin, the authentication used NTLM over tcp-ip. However, I try to register Server B specifying tcpip, I get a cannot generate sspi context error. Why did the authentication not fall back to NTLM as in Server A? From what I read in the KB articles, I asked our network admin to check up the spn, but he assures me that spn were never manually registered.
Can somebody throw more light on this issue?
Thanks

Because of a performance problem, somebody has given me a script which came from a SSRS report.
The code as supplied does not work when multivalued parameters are used.
Testing/tuning/building in SSMS is far superiour than in SSRS. So that's why I like to use SSRS for building the code/script/sql-statement.
Offcourse parameters have to be set correctly. (That is no problem).
Splitting of the multivalued parameter is not a problem either.

Have installed SQL 2008 on Windows 2008 and have come across a strange issue.
Â
When connecting to the Report Server cvia SSMS to enable "My Reports" (for example) the Report Server Properties are greyed out and we cannot alter them. This occurs when logged on both locally & remotely to the Win 2008 server.
Â
Interestingly, we have another (XP Pro) box with SQL 2008 on it. If we connect to the Win 2008 SQL report server from the XP machine's SSMS, then we have full control and can access and change the report server properties on the Win 2008 server.Â
Â
The relevant domain accounts are in the Admin group on the Win 2008 server and the XP Server so we are confused as to why we cannot edit the Win 2008 report server properties locally.

Basically, I am asking if it is possible to use SSMS (Query Analyzer window) with Informix. I am thinking linked server. If I have the ODBC driver installed on my workstation (win 7 pro VM workstation -- SSMS on same VM machine) is this doable? Do I just do the standard linked server routine or is there a special way (if it is even doable).

Hello everybody
I wrote a vb.net win app that uses a mssql 2005 express DB.
On my localcomputer everything worked without a problem.
Now I wish to deploy my app on a remote computer (that has mssql 2005 express installed), so. I added an app setup project to my project using the vs2005 setup tool, installed the app on the remote computer, and copied the mdf file to the remote computer.
I'm able to see the DB through the remote computer mssql manager, But when I try to start the app on the remote computer I get this error massage :
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)
my connectionstring (in the config file) looks like that :
<connectionStrings> <add name="Info_Manager.My.MySettings.MaxinetConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=DOTAN-XPSQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataMaxinet.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> <add name="Info_Manager.My.MySettings.MaxinetConnectionString1" connectionString="Data Source=DOTAN-XPSQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataMaxinet.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings>
by the way changing the user instance attribute to "false" didn't help.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem.

Everything has been working fine our SQL Server (lets call it Server A) (v2000 under NT 4), however sometime over the weekend it is unable to connect to one of our other SQL Servers (Server B).
In the Event Viewer I found this error:
SuperSocket info: Failed to get Exclusive port use(MSAFD Tcpip (TCP/IP)): Error 10013.
Everything on this server appears to be working fine, as in everything can connect to Sever A that needs to, but Server B can't connect to A, nor is it working the other way.
Also, Server A SQL Services run on port 2006, and B is on the standard 1433. Everything has been working with this up until today?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Let me start by saying that, yes we know v6.5 is no longer supported byMicrosoft and that moving to SQL2000 might resolve our problem.Actually the migration to SQL2000 is 1 to 2 months out and in the QAphase now. Unfortunately we need to resolve the current 6.5 issue nowas it heavily impacts a major revenue stream for the company with everyoutage we encounter. The Problem:At least once every 24 hours the SQL Server begins disallowing new userconnections. When this happens the 2 CPUs begin to thrash. About 5minutes later the error log begins to print out the following errormessage: "Unable to connect. The maximum number of '500' configured userconnections are already connected. System Administrator can configure toa higher value with sp_configure." No new connections can be made to theserver; however, the existing connections continue to function normally. We never see anywhere near 500 user connections in the system (it tendsto average around 350 connections). If we begin to disconnect users theserver continues reporting that the maximum number of users isconnected. Eventually running queries thru an open connection will hangand we have to resort to a hard reboot of the server as neither SQLServer will not shutdown nor will the operating system. The Server:Compaq Proliant DL380 with dual 863 MHz. processors (x86 Family 6 Model8 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel), 917,020 KB of physical memory, MicrosoftWindows 2000 Server (Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195), TotalVirtual Memory 3,138,688 KB, Page File Space 2,221,668 KBSQL Server:Microsoft SQL Server 6.50 - 6.50.479 (Intel X86). Some pertinentconfiguration settings: memory - 244100 (in 2K units), user connections– 500, RA worker threads – 3, max worker threads – 255We found one reference to the above error message in the MicrosoftKnowledge Base and that refers to a condition where the server has 2GBor more of physical memory with 1.5GB assigned to SQL Server. This doesnot pertain to our situation. I am unable to connect SQL Server Management Studio to any of the databases on my computer. At this stage I am simply starting the Management Studio and asking it to connect to a database I made a few months ago before this connection trouble arose. I'm specifying the server name "BENCHLAP" which is the name of My Computer, using Windows Authentication.
The error I get is:
An
error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When
connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote
connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not
open a connection to SQL Server)
The client is local. At least, it is if I understand correctly - the instance of SQL Server is installed on the same machine as the instance of IIS that I intend to use to test my web applications after we have resolved this issue, and the same machine as the one I shall use to view the application on.
I can ping the server if i type "ping -a BENCHLAP". It is successful
I think it also connects via telnet ok as well, by typing "telnet BENCHLAP 135"
All client protocols are enabled, as are the server protocols. Don't know if this is a security risk but I did it to try and solve the problem, to no avail. There are no aliases, according to the Configuration Manager.
The server itself is SQL Server Express 2005, runnning on Windows XP Professional. My anti virus software is AVG.
I'm afraid I don't know anything more, and have been researching this error for quite some time now.
Is anybody able to help me please?
Ben

Cannot someone please help me with following problem. I am trying to create a program to update a sql datbase from.NET 2003. I am doing this by using SQL Server Express 5. The problem is, is that when I run the program and click the button to view the table in SQL Express 5 I keep getting an 'System.NullReferenceException' and the table is not shown. When I look at the debug details it says that 'object reference not set to an instance of an object'.
Am not sure where am goin wrong as the connection is opened to the local server in SQL Express and I have created a connection object and initialised it to the address fo the datatable in SQL.
Please find below the code I am working on which shows the connection string in question and the table being called in button 6 which causes the exception.
Any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks

Dim conProd As New OleDbConnection("Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=ServerName;UID=User Name;PWD=Password;Initial Catalog=Database")conProd.Open()I am getting following error while running this script [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or
