Unable To Deploy A Report Model That Contains An ODBC Connection
Oct 19, 2007
Hi,
I'm trying to deploy a Report Model to my local machine that contains an ODBC connection to an iSeries Access ODBC Driver. The system DSN is already setup on my PC, named exactly the same. The data set views and report models create and build succesfully but when I try to deploy using BIDS I get an error description "System.Data.Odbc" for the dataset file and the model.
I can't really see anything substantial in the log files, although not sure what one I should be looking in.
Any help gratefully received
Paul

What permissions do I need on my SSRS server to deploy from VS2005. Currently I get the following error when I try to deply:
The permissions granted to user 'ReportServerNameUser' are insufficient for performing this operation.
I figure it is something simple that I am missing.
Thanks in advance!

I have a report model that I am trying to deploy using report manager web service. A folder is created by the administrator to place all my SSRS reports. I deployed .rdl files using the "Upload file" function in "Report Manager". All the SSRS reports work fine but when I tried to upload .smdl file (report model file) using the Report Manager's "Upload file" function it gave me the following error message.
The permissions granted to user 'xxxxxxman' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
Does this mean I only have permission to upload .rdl file but NOT .smdl file to my designated folder?

Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.51650

And i installed my client odbc drivers(32,64 bit) and created ODBC system DSNs in my local system and when i open ssis 2014 and i can able to see both the ODBC system DSNS(32,64) connections from SSIS ODBC connection.
I am using below version of .net framework in my local system which was installed in windows 7 and i have SSIS 2012 also installed in my system and i can able to see both ODBC connections using 2012 as well in my local system.

I deployed a report i'd been practicing on and it worked fine. I then attempted to deploy it to production and was asked for user name and password. On the server i used for production I am an admin yet my credentials did nothing, just keeps asking for user and pass again.
Along the same lines I want to know how to allow people within our network to view production reports without needing to type in credentials.

Howdy!
My first attempt to deploy a report from SQL Server Reporting Services failed and I'm not sure what to change to fix the problem.
The error message reads: "A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer."
Then under Additional INformation, it reads: "Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=utf8', but expected 'text/xml'."
I also had a problem after I configured the Reporting Services. To confirm that the ReportServer database had been created, I tried to access http://localhost/Reports from Internet Explorer. The error message I get is: "The XML page cannot be displayed" Then it says that "a name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://localhost/reports/'. Line 1, Postition 2."
I'm assuming that the latter problem is causing the former, but I don't know what to do to correct it. Can you help me out?
Thanks!

Hi everyone!,
Our team is new to SSRS and we are trying to figure out how to refresh the data source view, autogenerate the corressponding report model and Re-Deploy the Report Model (rewrite existing Report Model) on the server on a periodoc basis or trigger the whole action whenever there is a change in the database on some specific tables.
We prefer to do this action through a Agent job ( a diff approach is also welcome).
Are there any stored procs out there?
Appreciate your time.

I am having mucho difficulties deploying Report Models from my box.
I create a brand new report model project, I add a data source, a datasource view, and a report model. Everything builds fine. I setup the project to point to a valid SSRS Server (and I tried this on another person's box, everything worked fine), click deploy- enter the credentials, and the logon box just keeps popping back up instead of deploying.
When the credential box pops up, it has a "" in it. When I try this on another person's box, it works fine.
I just upgraded to SQL Server 2005 SP2, but I do not have Visual Studio 2005 SP1.
Could some of that be a problem?

Hello everybody,
I'm a SSiS newbie and I'm trying to reproduce my old DTS from sql server 2000 into this new SSiS.
I need to retrieve data through ODBC from a SAP db. I've got the right DNS and it works (Test connection succesful), but I'm unable to store password in connection manager.
I tryied to foigure out why and how to solve this problem, and I found somehthing on this forum talking about changing configuration files or something else... I'm a newbie, I don't know which files you're talking about..
Can you explain me in the simplest way possible how to store password in connection manager?
thanks in advance

Suppose we are two developer.Who have SSRS install at there own system.
Our database server is intalled on our main db server.
1,First thing does it necessay to create a shared datasource.
I have a web application in which I want's to add a folder say My reports in which i will put my reports {that is .rdl file}
Then I want's to hit a url with render format as excel this will bring down my report in excel format.
2,How to configure a connection
I want's to pass the connection string in the rdl via some xml file let say myconnectionn xml file
which look like
<connection-sources>
<source name="Mycon1" default="true" >
Data Source=abcyukon;User ID=sa;Password=as;Initial Catalog=MyDbName1
</source>
<source name="Mycon2" skip="true" >
Data Source=asdsadabcyukon;User ID=sa;Password=as;Initial Catalog=MyDbName2
</source>
</connection-sources>
connection string would be where attribute default of source should be true.

scenario,

in development environment, same package is getting data from srv01 and pushing it to srv02 and srv03, but when i am deploying it on srv01 then it fails to establish connection with srv01. The current way I have my asp.net 2.0 web app running reports is, based on an
interface the user selects the criteria for a report. The .RDL file is created
dynamically based on the user's selections.
I then need to SOAP the dynamically created report to the report server and
then the report runs fine.
BUT it requires Adminstrative rights to do this. Can this be accomplished
without giving the local machine admin rights. I am sorry if this question
has been answered before but i have not been up here in a while.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for

Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the
SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?

Hello, I have a configuration where my SharePoint services are running on a web machine and the SQL server reporting services are running on a different machine.
I installed SQL SP2 and the SQL Server Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint by following all the instructions listed in €œConfiguring Reporting Services for SharePoint 3.0 Integration€? (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx).
My issue is that when I Deploy a report from a VS Report Server project by running Visual Studio on the machine where reporting servicers is running, everything works fine.
But if I try the same thing on any other machine on the network, I get a €œThe file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators.€? message.
I€™m sure I€™m missing something on the configuration but I can€™t tell what.
Thanks a lot

I can't deploy reports on Visual Studio2005 anymore. I say "anymore", because a few months ago, this went well.
After building correctly, VS Studio asks for a Login for Reporting Services via a popup window. I don't know what to enter...
In IIS ( version 5.1) , I configured Reports and ReportServer for integrated Windows Authentication.
In Reporting Services Configuration, I have the Windows Security set on Windows Account, with a username and password that I also use (withoud success) to deploy the reports from Visual Studio. Since the user is a domain user, I tried as login also the complete domain name : domainusername. Nothing helps, the popup "Login for Reporting Servies" appears again and again.
If I change the settings in IIS to allow for anonymous access ( machinenameIUSR_machinename), I get the error message that the permissions granted to that user are insufficient.
I also changed the Windows Service Identity into "Local System" and "Local Service"; with the same result.
In the Log file of Reporting Services, I also find following phrase :
"ReportingServicesService!resourceutilities...INFO: Evaluation copy:0 days left"
I don't know of there is a link between this and my problems
Can anyone help me in this ?

I've created a linked server with a pretty basic Excel spreadsheet, and used this command to create a linked server to it:
sp_addlinkedserver ''XL_SPS_1', 'Excel', 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyExcel.xls', null, 'Excel 8.0'
I want to use this as the data from which to build a report model. As linked servers don't show up in the Data Source View wizard, I created a view in SQL Server:
create view MyExcel
as
select * from XL_SPS_1...Sheet1$
Okay, great, now the view shows up in the DSV wizard and I can create the data source view. However, when I create a new report model based on this data source view, the Report Model Wizard tells me at "Create entities for all tables" that I've got an error when it processes dbo_MyExcel that "Table does not have a primary key."
I assume this is where the identifying attributes for the entities in the report model are taken from, so I really can't go further. Does anyone have an idea as to how to add a primary key to a linked server (Excel) in SQL 2005? Can this be done? Other than importing spreadsheet data to a SQL table, how can I get around this?
Thanks,
--Stan

Hi,
I have created and deployed a data source (which uses "Credentials supplied by the user running the report") and a model which uses this data source.
Also I have built a report using Report Builder and all works well.
Now I wish to use Visual Studio to build a report, so I'm trying to create a data source from my computer which the report should use and I want it to use the model on the remote server. In the Report Wizard I am using "Report Server Model" and the following connection string:
Server="http://<remoteserver>/reportserver";datasource="/Models/MyModel"
IHowever I can't make the credentials to work. I've tried them all with no luck. What username/password must I use? Because so far nothing of what I have tried works.
Any help is highly appretiated.
Kind Regards,
Robert

Hi,
I've created dsv that contain all fields from table database. in the smdl I've remove some fileds due to security. All fields in the smdl do not contain drill.
Issue: When I created calculated field in the report builder the field has a link. When I clicked the drill I saw all the record data including field that not in the smdl.
Questions:
1) Can I remove the link from the calculated fields?
2) Can I prevent from users drill to fields that not in the smdl?
Thanks,

Hello,
Our company is doing some basic research into using analysis services as a solution for our customers. I've taken our database and built an analysis services project in BI Studio and deployed it to Analysis Services on my local machine I connect to Reporting Services in Management Studio, create a folder for the cube, give my Windows user acct. Content Manager permission, create the Data Source (conn string = "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Data Source=(local)SQLServer2k5;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=STI-PDB" -- copied from the Analysis Services project in BI Studio), and go to "Generate Model". What I get is an rsModelGenerationError, sub [Create Perspective From Cubes] with a connection issue at the base:
Either the user, <computername>Thomas, does not have access to the STI-PDB Database, or the database does not exist. () (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)
Now, in the Database Engine, my Windows account has the db_owner database role for STI-PDB and it's default schema is dbo, which all the objects are created under. What am I missing here?
