Unable To Format Excel Destination Column For Numbers

Hi,
I have an excel export with numeric values. When the SSIS package writes into the excel it treats all data types as strings and attaches an apostrophe in the beginning. I tried formatting the excel sheet with the number data type and saving it . It doesnt work.
Other strange thing is that when I go into the advanced editor for the excel destination and look into the properties of the external columns all of them have the data type as Unicode String[DT_WSTR] irrespective of what the data type is from the input.The UI allows me to change it to numeric for numeric columns without any error but the value is not saved at all which is very frustrating. I also tried changing it in the xml file of the package, it some how seems to overwrite it after validation. It would be really nice if it threw an error saying that it cannot be changed.
Anyways there seems to be no way of changing the destination data type if it s an existing file and if I create a new excel sheet there is no way of formatting data. Is there any way out?
I would like to know if there is any trick to convert numbers to csv files. I don't have any control to format the numbers.

i don't want to have scientific notation on the number. I want the result to be 0,00497512437810945. how can i do it?
I tried to change the type of destination columns to String or numeric but nothing works. what is the influence of changing data type in the destination columns e the output to files?
I tried using convert but with the same results.
Can it be because of local settings or something else?
I have a report with a column which contains either a string such as "N/A" or a number such as 12. A user exports the report to Excel. In Excel the numbers are formatted as text.
I already tried to set the value as CDbl which returns error for the cells containing a string.
The requirement is to export the column to Excel with the numbers formatted as numbers and the strings such as "N/A' in the same column as string.
Hi all i'm having an issues when i trying to do a report:
i make a report and there is a field which contains data that can be numeric and numeric with letter: "77756" or "345WS" when i export my report to excel i and i open it i get like a make in the upper left coner of the cells that have only numbers asking me to convert this to numeric format, but this think is that i need this values to be string so i can apply filtering. is there a way that i can format my cell to string so the excel take it like that and allowme to do the autoifilter.
I have designed a package that works perfectly well, exporting data to an excel file from an ole db source. The problem is that in the excel destination file, columns of data that originally were numbers, are formatted as text. It would be just annoying if it weren't because I use those figures in a pivot table that operates with them.
Any idea on how to tell Excel that those columns are numbers?
I am using 'SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service' in my project. I am using sub-reports in many cases. Whenever I export such reports containing sub-reports to 'Excel' format which is the major client requirement in our project, the exported excel file shows 'Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored.'
Can anybody tell me the solution for this? If not possible in reporting service then is there any other way to get data in excel format?
I have created a package which transfers data from a SQL server source to an Excel Destination. The DataFlow Task works fine , if i pre-define the column names in the Excel Destination... But i run into an error when i give the blank excel sheet as my destination. I am unable to map any columns
A sample example is as shown above .. In the column mappings field only one column in the Excel shows up for mapping and eventually throws the error "[Excel Destination [42]] Error: The number of columns is incorrect. "
How do we proceed in this case , where in we do not want to give pre-defined coulmn names in the Excel Destination sheet.

But SQL Table Last 39 Records Dumped as NULL whichever is Alphanumeric. Why? Dynamically How Can I import without doing Text to column in Excel on that column ?

Excel destination I am in design mode in Business Intelligence studio. My excel destination (with an Excel Connection) shows no sheet name though I have an execute SQL task before the data flow to create the excel table called SHEET1. Needless to say, there are no output columns visible to do any mappings. I did go to the ExcelConnection to set the OpenRowset Property to SHEET1 but it seems to have no effect.
I can do the export in SQL Server Management studio and that works fine, but it is basic and does not meet my requirements. I have to customize the package to allow dynamic Excel filenames based on account names and have to split my result set into multiple excel sheets because excel 2003 has a max of 65536 rows per sheet. Also when I use the export wizard, I have the source as a table and eventually the source has to be a stored proc with input parms.
What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks in advance
I have an SSIS package that basically runs a query and exports to an Excel destination. Everything works fine except for a date field that I use. When I preview the export it the date looks fine, as in a 1/7/07 2:05 PM for example. However, when I look at the actual Excel file/Export it will list the date as 1/7/07 without the time. I then have to format the column to the right date format in Excel for it to display correctly. I want to prevent the manual formatting due to the fact that this file needs to be automated.
Here's my need : In one directory there's several excels file. Theses file have the same structure : col : LOOKID, LOOKNAME, ASMPID, ASMPNAME, LOOKTYPE, LTYP_NAME, PAR_TYPE, PTYP_NAME, PARAMETER, VALUE. The problem is that the cell format of the PARAMETER col. is different bewteen excel files. It could be date, numeric, ... The col destination in sqlservr database is Varchar(10).
I've created the ssis package with a ForEach Loop, and in the ForEach loop I've created a Data Flow Task. In the data Flow Task I've created an excell source file (using excel file with col PARAMETER in date format) with an OLE DB destination.
When I launch the package on the same excel file as the one using to create Excel Source object it's OK, no errors, and data in the sql table are OK. But when I launch the package on Excel file with col. PARAMETER in numeric format, there's no execution errors, but in the destination table the value of the PARAMETER col. is transform in date format.
I tried to change in Excel source object the datatype of the input PARAMETER col, but I've got some compilations errors. It seems that SSIS recognize automaticaly excel source data type col. But may be I did something wrong in the excel source settings ? Is there a way to force the excel source datatype with varchar(10) ?
I've also tried to do the treatment with an script task but my vb.net knowledge isn't enought to do that.
i have an SSIS package that exports to an excel file. This works fine. the problem is that it appends the data instead of overwriting the file. Is there any way to overwrite the file like you can with a flat file? I have to email the file everyweek and don't want to have to clear it out manually. Any help would be appreciated
I have ssis package where I have excel connection manager with expression pointing to a variable which has path for location and name of excel spreadsheet to be create each with date on the name.ExcelFilePath points to variable for shared location where excel file will be saved.I have File system task for copying template excel file to destination location with date in file name.I drag and drop excel destination. Pointed to excel connection manager. Under data access mode, I have select table and view. When I try to select name of excel sheet, it says, no tables or views could be loaded. I should be able to see sheetname there so that I can map column. I only have option to create new spreadsheet. I want to use template to load data in excel file. I dont want to create new sheet. It was working before. But I opened the ssis package and its broken. I was able to see spreadsheet name before but I dont see it now even though I have not made any change to package. Hello Nice simple T-SQL question that will no doubt prove totally uncontroversial :) Anyone know the easiest way to get from:123456789to123,456,789in T-SQL? Currently I cast my int as money, use convert to varchar with style 1 and then lop off the .00. Is there an easier way? Two things before you get all upset and start squealing about front ends:1) These are admin functions that I am running from SSMS. I don't want to go to the bother of creating an application when SSMS is perfectly adequate for what I need (namely to-a-large-degree unformatted result sets).2) I'm not too fussed about it just curious. To be able to tell the Period number ([PD]) to change from an integer to a var_char so that it can be concatenated with the Fiscal Year. I.e. Fiscal Year || Period number to produce the following results.

Status of Problem:
The issue is that I can only get it done to the point to where the Fiscal Year || Period number yields the following results:

Etc….
This is as issue since I am trying to get all the information from the past to a certain year and period. Using a filter that says
Fiscal Year + Period Number <= ?Prompt_Fiscal_Year? + ?Prompt_Period_Number?
So if I enter Year: 2007 Period 3
I should get:

2006 02
2006 03
Etc…….
2006 11
2006 12
2007 01
2007 02
2007 03

Program Descritpion: Our product allows our customers to enter their product catalogs into our ASP.NET pages and we save the data using SQL Server 2005. Customer use GridViews to edit their data and teh data is broken into manageable groupings (called Field Groups) stored as meta-data in SQL Server Tables. Then when a user wants to edit a set of data they choose the Field Group and we dynamically generate a data source and a gridview, bind them together, and our users update their data. A bit more complicated but that's teh gist. Another thing they can do, and where our problem occurs, is they can print reports or do exports into excel using this data. Since there are so many fields, they use the Field Groups to select which fields they want included so everything needs to be built dynamcially, at runtime, using the Field Group meta-data. Essentially, I want my grid to have these 10 fields. Problem:For the export we generate an XML data source using FOR XML in SQL Sprocs. The xml is pulled into a xmldatadocument, trasnformed with an xsl file into an Excel XML Spreadsheet. Our problem is that FOR XML is generating our XML real numbers in scientific format. The xsl "format-number" function does not recognize scientific format and returns NaN (not a number) instead of the value in my spreadsheet. If I leave it blank I get the scientific number but Excel doesn't format it correctly, the cell has an error tag that wants me to choose Number stored as text or convert to a number. I need it to show up on teh Excel form already formatted without that message. I can't change the DataType of the field in SQL, too many other things depend on it and it needs to be a real. I can't use CONVERT(decimal,fieldName) in SQL because the SQL string is dynmically generated using Dynamic SQL and most of the fields are not real. When we build the Field List we just have field names, we can't check anything to add CONVERT functions to only real fields. Is there any way to force the XML output to not be scientific for the entire document? Or another function in XSL I'm unaware of (pretty new to xsl)? Or perhaps something I can do in the XML Spreadsheet tags to force the conversion?

Hello, I'm having problems with a column of numeric string data coming from a tab delimited CSV file. When a number in the column is negative, it is expressed this way; 1,240.52-
The negative symbol occurs at the end of the numeric string. The destination column is in a SQL Server 2005 table. I've tried to change the data type of the table column, and three or four different data types in a data conversion task, but nothing has worked so far to bring the data over.
I have table with 3 columns: record_id (int), car (varchar(50)), amount (decimal(18,4)).
I created dimension for drillthrough action. Also I set Amount's column FormatString to '##0.00' but when I use Drillthough column Amount values is shown like:

I've got a SQL query returning data into MS Excel.
One of the columns returns numbers that I then have a SUMIF formula totalling.
However, when the numbers get to Excel, they are not recognised as numbers so my SUM doesn't work. Even if I format the cells as number, general or currency, the sum doesn't work.
Excel knows that there is something in the cell but doesn't treat it as a number in any way.
Can I include something in the SQL statement so that it forces the results to be a number?

I'm looking for an automated way to present a FORMATED Excel Spreadsheet to the Customer from a stored procedure output.
Can anyone advise me the best method of doing this - should I / can I assign an Excel Template to the DTS Task output ?
His mind is set on Excel and the formatting is basic and easy to write in a Macro which I've done, but this requires human interaction to finish the task (Automated Run Once on opening etc).
In an ideal world an individual would send an email to the Server with two formated parameters (@FromDate & @ToDate) and would be emailed back a ready formatted S/Sheet. But I believe he would be willing to just select the relevant SpreadSheet for the Daily / Weekly / Monthly periods dumped.
I am trying to import about 3300 lines of data from excel. Some of the columns in excel have negative, positive and even 0 as numbers.
I have matched those columns in the DB and have tried all the different data types that i thought should work, but on import, all negative and 0 numbers get dropped.
I have played with the excel formatting as well, but nothing seems to work.
I'm having an issue with data from an OLE DB source being converted from numeric [DT_R8] to text when I export it to Excel. I had the column in the spreadsheet formatted as Numeric, but when I set it up as the data destination, it is showing in SSIS as [DT_WSTR].
The SSIS job runs OK, it just converts my numeric data to text in the spreadsheet. I'm surprised that the job actually runs, since I have to do explicit data conversions for my OLE DB string data in order to convert it to unicode. From what I have read elsewhere, the decision was made in SSIS not to use implicit data conversion, but to require explicit conversion. Yet this export is converting my numeric data to text. I would appreciate any information on how to set up the Excel Destination to properly handle numeric information.

Is there a recommended file format (csv, xml, txt) when choosing a file destination for SSIS? Does a file format impact the performance in terms of loading? Let's say i have chosen to use a .csv as my file destination (this has 15million rows and 50 columns with 2 bigint and the rest binary(32)) and later on, i would need to reload them back to table using SSIS. Is using csv faster than e.g. xml when reloading? Does it have performance impact at all?
Does an empty file (text/ Excel) needs to be created manually for the connection manager for (text/excel)destinations. Can I create the file at run time?????
