Unable To Manipulate The Xsl Output Encoding Type.

After generating one of my reports, I process the XML output through an XSLT stylesheet and export it to a text file. The issue is that after the export, the generated output text file begins with the special Byte-Order-Mark marker "EF BB BF" standard to Unicode files encoded in UTF-8, UTF-16 or UTF-32. I have explicitly set the attributes of the xsl output element to <xsl:output encoding="us-ascii" media-type="text/plain" method="text">, but it seems as though those are ignored when the output file is written. I cannot have these characters, because I am generating a fixed-width file for input into a legacy system.
Any suggestions or thoughts on what is causing the BOM to be written to my file, even though I have set the encoding to be different than UTF-8?
Our company has just migrated to 2005 from 2000. I've got Management Studio doing much of what I need it to do from the old enterprise manager (which I wish I could go back to).
My problem is this.
When saving CSV files from a script run inside Management Studio (ad hoc reports, custom queries, etc) the default encoding is to UNICODE. This produces files that excel doesn't handle very well (most of the people I'd be sending the results to would freak out when the CSV file doesn't appear as expected).
I've discovered that I can change the encoding to ANSI when I save the query but as it's a manual process I'm sure I'm going to get tired of it very quickly. I would really like to make ANSI encoding the default.
(at the moment and for the foreseeable future, we don't need the functionality that Unicode provides).
Anyone know how to do this -- I've tried searching the docs without success.
I want to insert a value which has the UTF-8 encoding into a field of the database which has the "text" data Type but it saves like this : " ?????????????? "

I'm getting this error on a vb.net page the needs to execute two separate stored procedures. The first one, is the main insert, and returns the identity value for the ClientID. The second stored procedure inserts data, but needs to insert the ClientID returned in the first stored procedure. I have an application which runs successfully on a couple of my customer's machines but fails on a third. It seems to fail when opening the database:

Before I got this error I was getting another problem (sorry didn't make a copy of that error's text) that made me think that adodb.dll simply wasn't loaded/registered. I got rid of that error by copying my adodb.dll onto the third machine and running gacutil /i. There is now an entry in winntassemblies for adodb.
Just in case you think it could be an obvious registry problem: when I started getting the current error I thought that maybe the registry needed updating and I merged the following lines into onto the target machine (from my dev machine):
Hi, I have developed a custom server control for .NET Framework 2.0. The server control has a property named BinaryData of type byte[]. I marked this property to be data bindable. Now, I have varbinary(Max) type of field in my SQL Database and I have used SQLDataSource and bound this varbinary(Max) field with the property BinaryData (byte[]) of my control. It is working fine as long as the data value is not NULL. Now, In my control, I have handled the NULL value so that no Exception is thrown. Still, when I bind this property using the SQLDataSource, I get Error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'." I am not sure if I can do anything to stop this erro within my control. If it is not possible from the control, then what is the workaround that I can do in my ASPX page in order to stop this error ? Hello....I have just installed the trial copy of SQL 2005 server and updated with SP1 as well as post SP1 hotfixes.
However, when I try doing sample training material on SSIS, if I try to output to any type of destination output (flat file, excel, access, localhost SQL database) it always does a SQLDUMPER on me and never finishes....I always have to stop the debugger to get out of it.
What pointers can be given to troubleshoot symptoms given above ?

I'm having a heckuva time with creating output parameters based on a query.
Here's what I'm doing. Every day, we copy rows from our mysql table to our sql server table. We only want to copy those rows that are new, so as to not have to recopy the entire table.
So I have a DataReader Source set to Ado.net/odbc provider that connects to the mysql db. The destination is an OLE connection to the local sql server.
I create an Execute SQL Task. The connection is set to the OLE connection The type is direct input The SQL Statement is "select max(id) from copy_table"
In Parameter Mapping, I create a user variable called maxId that is an int64. That variable is now used as the Variable Name. The Direction is Output. The Parameter Name is 0.
Whatever data type I use for the mapping does not work with the variable type. If the parameter was set to ULARGE_INTEGER, here's the error [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "SELECT MAX(stats_id) AS max_id FROM copy_table" failed with the following error: "Type name is invalid.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

I found that if variable and parameter were dates to use datetime for the variable and DBTIMESTAMP for the parameter.
There are an awful lot of combinations between all the possible variable types, and the possible parameter types. Does anyone know the secret combination for your typical integer?

Would anyone happen to have any pointers or know of any good code examples to either programmatically change the type of an input column when it is passed through the component, or add a new column to the output? I am extracting data from an Oracle database which is in Julian date format (represented within SSIS as a DT_NUMERIC column) and I need to to either transform the input column holding it into a date column, or to dynamically add a new output column holding the transformed data.
When I open up my existing SSIS project, I always get this error. Does anyone know what was wrong ?

I haven't been able to successfully use the ADO.NET connection type to use both input and output parameters in an execute sql task containing just tsql statements (no stored procedure calls). I have successfully used input parameters on their own but when i combine it with output parameters it fails on the simplest of tasks.
I would really find it beneficial if you could use the flexibility of an ADO.NET connection type as the parameter marker and parameter name can be referenced anywhere throughout the sql statement in no particular order. The addition of an output parameter would really make it great!!
I've been using my DotNetNuke database for weeks on my local PC with SQL Server Express. It attaches as a "User Instance". Basically, I am using all the DotNetNuke defaults. Today I decided to attach the DotNetNuke database in SQL Server Management Studio Express and peek at the tables. I attached the database; then I detached it when I was done. This all went well. But when I tried to open my DotNetNuke web site again I now get a message that it cannot connect. Attaching and detaching the database in SQL Server Management Studio obviously changed something about the database, but I don't know what. My connection string to the database has not changed.

Is there a way to manipulate a date variable into a specific month and day?? For example, I want whatever date the user will enter to be changed to June 30 of the following year. So, if the variable @date is 12/12/1999, I want to change it to 6/30/2000. If the date is 2/1/2001, I want to make it 6/30/2002
I can't use DateAdd because you need to know how many months to add or days to add. Basically, how do I retain the month and day while changing the year the year based on a dynamic field. What I need is a DateChange function that is DateChange(mm, @month, @date) ? Is there something like that?
So I'm querying from a database where one of the fields for each entry is a city. I would like to count the ones in each city. So I'm counting and grouping on city. Unfortunately, the data is not very consistent. Some are listed as Miami, FL and others simply as Miami. I don't need the state so I can just drop it, but I can't figure out how. I was using charindex and substring, but can't get it to work because if there is no ',' then the charindex is zero and substring doesn't work correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
