I have replaced the installation of MSDE 1.0 with MSDE 2000.
Prior to installation of MSDE 2000, I can perform the activities of all
database role. Now, I can only add, change and delete data - no
more database design.
What should I do to regain database design permission?
I'm using "sa" user with blank password when I login to MS Access Project.
I am creating a simple application form using visual studio 2015. I can create database.mdf successfully and create dbo.table successfully. but when i tried to view table by expanding the table icon on the server explorer, the table should be able to show list of table but it didn't show any record and why is it like that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am absolutely stumped here. I have the SQL server management studio loaded up, the trigger in question highlighted. I right click and select "Modify". I see the trigger code in a window, i make my modifications, and hit ctrl-f5. It compiles without any errors. Now I hit CTRL-F4, and it asks me to save to a file. (Now the original trigger was not saved 'as a text file' - that I can find anywheres on my hard drive. I save it anyways, and the editing window is gone.) I right click on the trigger and select "modify" and the code is back to the way it was. I just spent the last two hours trying to modify this - surely there is a way to modify a trigger?

I'm trying to setup my foreign keys so I can use them in a VisualStudio projects but I'm getting an error and I can't track down what's causing it.

The ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_tbl_position_tbl_departments". The conflict occurred in database "MyProjectDB", table "dbo.tbl_departments", column 'ID'. All of my tables have an ID field that is a primary key with Allow Null unchecked.
when I try to open the SSRS in BIDS ( VS 2008), it is displaying the code portion alone. If i click 'View Designer', it prompts me like "....already opened. Do you want to close?" Only XML content of report is displaying. if I click 'Viee Code' then it displays error like "There is no editor available for 'c: eport Sample. rdl'.Make sure the application for the file type (.rdl) is installed."how to correct this issue by installing or by upgrading?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have a vendor created database with 9000+ tables, one of which has about 6 billion rows. The vendor redesigned the database recently and ever since we've had terrible performance.
What the vendor did was increase any and all varchar columns (tens of thousands of columns) to 256.
Before the upgrade we had no problems creating an index on the 6billion row table, it would take 2 hours.
Now after the upgrade we've let the index creation command run for 5 days and killed it because it was consuming terabytes of logspace.
The previous design had combined column width of 1049 to what is now over 4000. The primary key itself is 1283 characters (SQL limit is 900).
There is no additional data, just wider columns. Why we are unable to create the index?
What is happening inside SQL Server? Does SQL make "room" in memory for the index for the entire width of the potential max row length?

After replicating a database, the stored procedures in that same database are not able to edit by other users than service account (sys admin users), When the normal users try to edit any of the stored procedures, sql server 2005 is throwing the following error...
Msg 21050, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSmerge_ddldispatcher, Line 12Only members of the sysadmin fixed server role or db_owner fixed database role can perform this operation. Contact an administrator with sufficient permissions to perform this operation.

On Administrator session, I have created an CUSTOMER MSDE database. That's OK.
On user session, I want to access on my database CUSTOMER but I have on error : "Unable to connect to the database". And, in French : "Echec de la connexion de l'utilisateur Machine_Name/User_Name".
What is the error ? I don't know what to do any more.
How to give right to the user ? Have you an idea ?

I simply want to edit and data I have in a database that I made with Express Manager. This worked before .Net 2.0. Now, I have the table displayed as a datagrid with an "edit" pushbutton associated with each row in the database table. When I click on the "edit" pushbutton to edit a specific row in the database table, instead of posting me to a page where the chosen row is editable, I am posted back to the same page without the chosen row availible to be edited.
What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? I am totally new to this so any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I have gone to work for a new company and I have seen this company is running out of drive space on a daily basis. The DBA before me created huge databases. For example we have a database that it's created size is 103 GB. Only about 52 GB is ever needed. I know you can resize the tempdb but how about user databases? I have never tried this. Can this be done for a user database?

Ok, I'm doing a football database for fixtures and stuff. The problem I am having is that in a fixture, there is both a home, and an away team. The tables as a result are something like this:

It's not exactly like that, but you get the point. The question is, can I do a fixture query which results in one record per fixture, showing both teams details. The first in a hometeam field and the second in an away team field.
Fixture contains the details about the fixture like date and fixture id and has it been played
Team contains team info like team id, name, associated graphic
TeamFixture is the table which links the fixture to it's home and away team.
TeamFixture exists to prevent a many to many type relationship.
Make sense? Sorry if this turns out to be really easy, just can't get my head around it at the mo!
I have 30+ databases in sql 2000.
I want to dynalically loop though each of the databases and alter a column named 'EmpName' for all the 'Employees' tables in that database.

When i execute the above script in master, it says 'Query executed successfully' but when i see the all the Employees table in each of the database, the required change is not made.
Can anybody explain this or give an alternate solution?
We are running into the following error while changing a column data type from nvarchar (1200) to varchar(8000)

Now tried to change the filegrowth of the log file to unlimited

The query executes without error but I do not see the auto growth as unrestricted. It's still 2GB
I can run this command to make changes for 1 DB USE [master]

Is it possible to create a script which changes log file size to let's say 100MB for all DBs in all servers instead of running the above command by logging into each server? We have about 200 servers and close to 3000 DBs.
I need reflecting changes of csv file in oracle DB. Suppose, I load single csv file in oracle DB which contains 10 rows. After some time, I have loaded another CSV file which has the modified row of the previously loaded csv file. So, how can I capture the CSV changes and how it is going to get reflected in oracle DB?There is no unique column in csv file to identify particular row.

I want to do this in a smart fashion. I am designing database where few of the master tables will reside in different database or in case different server. Scenario is
Server "A" with Database "A" may host the "Accounts" table.
Server "B" with Database "B" may host the "Product" table.
I am designing database "Project" which will hosted in Server "A".
My application requires this master tables [readonly access] as data inserted in my application refers this tables. Also there are reports to be generated which refer this tables.
How do i design my database and sql queries?
I am thinking of approach of having equivalent tables created in my database and writing service which keep tables in my database in sync. This will ensure good perfomance during transaction and reports as they will need to refer this table locally as opposed to different database or different server.
Any thoughts on above approach?? or any better/standard way for such scenarios ?

My client has a db with the following structure:
Online US Searchable Map of the 50 US States. Users search criteria is the following: Query records by selecting state, county, then record. Each County table has 10-20 tables. All databases combined = 500MB and TLogs = 100MB.
How would you re-design a relational DB where users could query data by state-county-record. Currenty the DB's are created by the County of each state which creates hundreds of DB's in SQLServer with no realtionship to each US state. What would be the best design to ensure good performance, data integrity and maintenance? Would you create 1 DB with all 50 states, create 4 DB's and divide by region(N,S,E,W), 50 DB's of each state or leave it as is with each county it's on DB? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am collecting results from a survey which has the following questions:
Call ref? How did you place your support call? Were you satisfied with the amount of time you had to wait until getting acknowledgement of the support call placed? 1 = very satisfied and 10 = very unsatisfied. How happy were you with the customer service you received upon placing the support call? 1 = very unhappy and 10 = very happy.How satisfied were you with the amount of time you had to wait until you heard from an engineer? 1 = very satisfied and 10 = very unsatisfied. I want to store this in a database. Obviously I want to use best practice for design, normalisation etc. The stumbling block I am coming accross is the fact that each question has a number and each question has a score from 1 to 10 and storing this in the database. Any help appreciated!

I am creating database tables for company testimonials. Database columns: name, position, companyname, comment, service we provided.
My question is that for each company - may have a multitude of different services from us, and different people with different positions in the same company may make comments.
What is best practice for putting this db structure together?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI guess I am confused about something and need some help. I am looking at a database schema for about 20 tables in a database. I noticed that the firstcolumn in each table Is some type of Id. For example StudentId,TestId etc.Where the Id is a unique numeric sequential value.
So I have some questions?1- Do these Id's act as what are called indexes for the table?(Unique indexes)2- If the answer to 1 is correct, then how do I create these unique indexes? Is it as simple as declaring the Id column as the primary key and that this value will be generated automatically upon insert? 3- Is it necessary to have an Id column for every table, or may I only do it for a few of them?4. In relation to Question2, what do I need to do, so that the Id column will automatically be created when someone inserts a value into the database table with an ID column.
