We seem to be having junk characters within our SQL server 2005 database for data related to East Asian countries. However, if we are to manually mess around within Excel we will be able to decipher these characters.

Can you please let me know the best way of fixing this issue?
I want to use DataReaderSrc with ODBC as the data that I want to access contains east asian characters. Isn't there a way to force our way through without using ADO.NET as I am getting junk characters in the output file.
However, if I use SQL Server 2000 with Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle everything works fine.
Are there any other known workarounds?
My problem is that i can't search a field that contains Asian characters (Korean in this case).
The table user_Access_tab have 2 keys:
access_id nVarchar(50)
user_id nVarchar(50)
The sql query below is sent through a oledbcommand to a sql server 2005 database.
"select access_id, access_right from user_Access_tab where user_id ='HQ001kimjo012007-05-07 ì˜¤ì „ 11:50:323401'"
It doesn't show any hits even thogh i know there is a number of matching records.
The question doesn't generate an answer in SQL server manager studio eigher.
If i change the datatype on user_id to Varchar(50) the id is presented (in the database) as:
HQ001kimjo012007-05-07 ?? 11:50:323401
Then the question works, but why doesn't it work with nVarChar(50)?

A trigger existed on the job steps table which captured any changes before and after. The insert table was limited changes to 4000 characters.

At some point a few months ago we encountered an issue where we hit a size limit of ~4000 characters on the amount of text we could enter into a Transact-SQL step of an Agent job. Attempting to create a job like this with sp_add_job will produce the error
Msg 50000, Level 16, State 10, Procedure sp_add_jobstep_internal, Line 255
String or binary data would be truncated.
Adding the job step via SSMS yields
Alter failed for JobStep 'xxx'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Additional information:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 8152)

We can run the same job creation code without error on a SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition machine and two SQL Server 2012 SP2 Developer Edition boxes. This just happened today and I dont know why. I have a database on a SQL server 2005 database, that has a table called photos. It contains image data, but not the column says <Unable to read data>. But before that I get an error when I try to execute the table to retreive the data. The error is below. We are trying to import data from a .csv file which sits on shared location. This package runs fine when we run it from designer. but we are having problem when we do it at run time (accessing it through a service). Same package runs fine if that file is on same server.
Is any one gone through this issue before? i appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

I'm not sure if it's the setup I did wrong, but I can't seem to get my
text datatype in my database to store more than 900 characters.
I'm trying to setup a news database for my website, which will populate
the information into a datagrid. To test, I manually added a news
item in the database through the visual studio 2003 gui. I
immediately noticed a problem as the I was getting an error after a
long news item saying:
"The value you entered is not consistent with the data type or length of the column, or over grid buffer limit."
I couldn't find anthing to set the buffer limit and the datatype is
"text" filled with simple text in the column. As a further test,
I
simply entered 12334567890123... up to 900 characters and still
recevied the error.
I would appreciate someone leading me in the right direction on this one.

In my application I must store over 16000 character in a sql table field . When I split into more than 1 field it gives "unclosed quotation mark" message.

I would like to know if there is any property in sql2000 database to separate lowercase characters from uppercase characters. I mean not to take the values €˜child€™ and €˜Child€™ as to be the same. We are transferring our ingres database into sqlserver. In ingres we have these values but we consider them as different values. Can we have it in sqlserver too?

I have two database files, one .mdf and one .ndf. The creator of these files has marked them readonly. I want to "attach" these files to a new database, but cannot do so because they are read-only. I get this message:

What command(s) are needed to make these files read_write?

i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.
we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.
will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.
there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?

OK, I'm using VS2003 and I'm having trouble. The page works perfectly when I created it with WebMatrix but I want to learn more about creating code behind pages and this page doesn't work. I think it has some things to do with Query builder but I can't seem to get change outside "please register". I have the table populated and it is not coming back with "login successful" or "password wrong" when I've entered correct information. Enclosed is what I've done in VS2003. We are trying to build a FAQ in a SQL database that will be updateble trough the web.
Now to the questione:
We can't use more than 255 characters, in Books Online it says that char and varchar supports 1 to 8000 characters but it doesn't work for us.
Anyone knows why?
I have a column with data type of text.
Some values are 5 digits long, and other characters are 6 digits long.
I want to write a query that adds a '0' to the end of the values that only have 5 digits...
How would my syntax look like ?

I have a field oh phone numbers that had no specific format. I have removed all of the previous formatting so know there are just a string of 10 numbers and I want them all to change to "(###) ###-####". Is there an SQL statement that I can use to update the field in a batch process. Any help would be great. I also have linked the tables to an access db, if that makes it easier. Any help is much appreciated.

I am Suhasini. While saving data from front end(Asp.net) to back end(Sql server 2005 express edition) i am getting junk characters also added to the database. This character just look like a checkbox. Basically i am adding options using a multiline text box, is there any thing wrong with that. options are saved in the database as junk character followed by option1...... etc. Kindly suggest me on this.
