I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
Is this an intrinsic issue?

Hello
We seem to be having junk characters within our SQL server 2005 database for data related to East Asian countries. However, if we are to manually mess around within Excel we will be able to decipher these characters.
Following is a sample:
Îâê

Can you please let me know the best way of fixing this issue?

This just happened today and I dont know why. I have a database on a SQL server 2005 database, that has a table called photos. It contains image data, but not the column says <Unable to read data>. But before that I get an error when I try to execute the table to retreive the data. The error is below. SQL Execution Error:Executed SQL statement: SELECT ID, AlbumID, Caption, BytesOriginal, BytesFull, BytesThumb FROM PhotosError Source: System.DataError Message: Invalid attempt to Read when reader is closed. This happens with SQL Server Management Studio, and Visual Studio 2005 when I try to access it. I tried two computers so its not that. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I use SQL Server 2012 and visual studio 2010.I created SSIS Project with task "Execute Package". Control flow view as: Package1 (execute package) -> Package2 (data flow).Data flow in Package2 view as: ADO.NET source -> ADO.NET destination.
When I started Package2, it's work. I havn't errors. But when I started Package 1 I have error "Unable to get managed connection from the Connection Manager runtime". In execution log I see that ADO.NET source produced this error on verification stage. Package failed on verification stage, not on execution stage. Why when I started Package 2 it work, but when I started Package1 (and Package1 started Package2) it failed?

We are trying to import data from a .csv file which sits on shared location. This package runs fine when we run it from designer. but we are having problem when we do it at run time (accessing it through a service). Same package runs fine if that file is on same server.
Is any one gone through this issue before? i appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

I have table (log)as below
ID---Qstring----------------------------------------------ProID
1----ID=25375
2----ID=23382
3----lngSessionId=134513044&pid=25375
52---lngSessionId=133466044&pid=27890
67---tduid=dc79b&url=http://www.mydomain.co.uk/proddetails.asp?id=186
How do I read only the number starts with ID and pid from the above string and insert into column 'ProID' of the same row? It is log table tracking all the visiters to the web site. The number next to IDs and pids are productIDs. So if I manage to get product ID to the column ProId then I can hit against other table to find out which product the customer clicked.
I planned to do the above said by trigger. Please help

I have a field that will look something like this. I need to read a file and when the first 3 positions are REM, the number following is the Order number, and the initials, are the rep. this is how they are tracking for the rep, if they sent reminders to customers and when.
REM 0482348 LV 04/13
I would like to do this in SQL and also join to the order header file that will give me the invoice total for that order. what is the best approach here via SQL for these first 2 fields' needed?

Hi,
I'm having a BIG problem, this is my 3rd day looking for answer !I'm trying to create a custom membership provider with MS SQL database 2005 but not the default ASPNETDB. I've changed the web.config to be as following:<connectionStrings><add name="sqlConn" connectionString="Data Source=.;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=ASPNETDB;"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /></connectionStrings> <system.web><trace enabled="true" /><roleManager enabled="true" /><authentication mode="Forms" />
<membership defaultProvider="MySqlProvider"><providers><remove name="AspNetSqlProvider"/><add name="MySqlProvider" connectionStringName="SqlConn" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider" applicationName="/" /></providers></membership>
But when I try to login to the site using the login control the following error occurs:
Server Error in '/etest' Application.
Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. I have been trying to host my website on Go Daddy for about 3 weeks and I have cleared several problems but this one remains. I can get into the ASPNETDB database for doing logins , etc but I cant access my database called "PINEmgt".
To try to understand where the problem is located,I built a very simple application without login controls and put on it one Detailform accessing a single line table "Signin". I continually get the error message I got with my real app :"The connection name 'PINEMgtConnectionString2' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty. " There is only one connection string in my app -'PINEMgtConnectionString2'. When I run the app locally on my machine it works. After I move everything to Go Daddy, I get the error message and the following dump"

Line 27: InsertCommand="INSERT INTO Signup(first_name, last_name, email, customer_id) VALUES (,,,)"
Line 28: SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Signup]"></aspqlDataSource>
This is indeed the code from my single page app.
The dump is:

I have a child package where the ConnectionString property of a Connection Manager is set by a Parent Package Variable Configuration. I set up a script task that brings up a message box with the value of the ConnectionString property right before the dataflow task.
MessageBox.Show(Dts.Connections["CPU_*"].ConnectionString.ToString());When I run the parent package, the message box shows that the connection string is changing with every iteration, but in the dataflow it always draws the data from the same source.
The connection manager is an ADO.Net type, RetainSameConnection is set to False, and I've been researching this for days.
(Update 2/23/2015): To make this stranger, when I look at the diagnostic logs, they tell me that when the new connections are being opened they are using the new connection strings.

This is the first time I have used SSIS, so please bear with the ignorance.
I have a super simple package that inserts x000's of rows into a temporary table. The data source is a file that the user will upload. I need to be able to tell the package what file to upload. I'm thinking the simplest thing would be to edit the connectionString property of the SourceConnectionFlatFile at runtime. Is this possible? What form should the file path be in (UNC, other)? And, are there any other considerations I should be aware of?
Thanks!

Hi,I have two, similar SQL Server 7.0 databases (in the same SQL ServerGroup) that I use as the backend for two Access 2000 front endapplications - one is the live version, the other is the developmentversion. The live version works fine. But the other version is read-only, i.e.no changes can be made to the data in the tables, over the ODBCconnection. Both systems have similar ODBC connection properties, the permissionsettings on the SQL Server databases are the same - users, tableaccess, database access, etc. The connections use Windowsauthenication and the users are set up in SQL Server security loginswith public and db_owner selected.Has anyone seen or heard of this problem and does anyone have anyideas on how to fix it?I appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have. Thanks,Chris

I have hard coded the value for the User::FilePath variable in the parent package.
I am mapping this variable to the value of the same variable in the Child Package.
I created a directory and sql file: "C: empsqlb.sql". I have verified that the path variable value is passed to the child package by using a Script task with a messgbox call.
How do I define an execute sql task to execute sql file: @[User::FilePath] & "sqlb.sql". I'm using this expression for the SqlStatementSource property. I have entered the OLEDB server information and specified the SQLSourceType = fileconnection.
However I get the error:

Hi, I am trying to enable remote access on a SQL Server 2005 standard edition instance. I have enabled it in the properties using the Management studio and have enabled it under Sql Server Surface Area Configuration under "Database engine".
But it didn't work. I know for a fact that my connection string is correct (I tested it on the actual machine)
So I checked everything again and I noticed in the Sql Server Surface Area under "Analysis Services" there is another "remote connection" checkbox to be enabled, however it won't let me enable it there because it says the "Sql Browser" is not started. I checked and the Sql Browser is started.
I'm thinking maybe the problem there is that I have an instance of SQL 2000 running and perhaps it is the sql browser for that (I can remotely connect ot my SQL 2000 instance).
I checked under Computer management -> services and their is no SQL Browser for the instance of SQL 2005. Not even a thing to enable. Just the Default instance SQL Browser, which is for my SQL 2000 instance. Am I missing something here?
Also there is no SQL Browser to enable in the management or Surface Area Configuration programs.
I have also tried to connect using the default port number (1433) and the IP (to bypass the need for the SQL Browser). It apparently finds my Server 2000 instance because it doesn't accept my user name and password and connot find the specific database (note: I verified the username and pswd are correct by testing the values on the SQL machine). How do I find what port number a specific instance of SQL Server is running on?

My application supports a single database connection and in the app console I can produce reports. If I include the app database in an AlwaysOn availability group with a read-intent replica will SQL automatically route the “selects” to that second instance thus offloading my application’s reporting activities or I need a separate db connection (maybe from a reporting app or cli) with a connection specifying read-only intent?

I've created an excel spreadsheet with a data connection. This data connection uses a query that runs against a read-only database.
The issue I'm having is that the query never seems to finish running against the database, whether I open the Excel spreadsheet to view the data or run the query in SSMS.
I created the connection on the Data ribbon by going to From Other Sources --> From SQL Server and using the Data Connection Wizard.
Is there some kind of setting or property I'm missing that would allow this query to finish running?

Good Morning,
I hope that I am just missing a step in the process somewhere. I have established a string variable called DatabaseServer and another called DatabaseName. In the OLE DB connectionstring expression I have the following:
Code Snippet
"Data Source=" + @[User::DatabaseServer] + ";Initial Catalog=" + @[User::DatabaseName] + ";Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;"
My understanding is that changing the variable from SERVERA to SERVERB should repoint the connection. (Test to pre-production to production in my current promotion environment.) This should also take effect in any dataflow task using the database connection above right? When I try to repoint the server variable (and only the server variable) I am either a.)throwing errors saying the original connection cannot be found in the data flow task, or b.)the job appears to be processing fine, but the repoint did not take place and data is still flowing to the original server.
Can anyone offer suggestions as to what I am missing?
The properties values in the DB connection:
ConnectionManagerType is OLEDB
DataSourceID is blank
DelayValidation is False (Setting to true changes nothing in my test)
Expression for ConnectionString is (see above)
RetainSameConnection is False
SupportsDTCTTransactions is True (and appears to be unchangeable.)

Server Error in '/Dive' Application.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
this is the error message I found when I run my asp.net application and the connection string as follows:
<add key="ConnectionInfo" value="Server=(local);Database=Dive;Trusted_Connection=yes;" />
can someone tell me how to connect and how to specify username and password in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition..........
I'm a little bit new on VWD 2005 I need an assistance on it.

Here are the error messages:
Enterprise Manager:
A connection could not be established to SERVERNAME - Client unable
to establish connection ConnectionOpen (CreateFile())
Query Analyzer:
Unable to connect to server ServerName
Server Msg 67, Level 16, State 1
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Client unable to establish connection
I can't register any other new servers, even ones in my workgroup. I'm connecting using named pipes, but have also tried using TCP/IP setting it up using Client Network Utility.
When i log on to another machine using my network login - I can connect.
There have been no problems connecting in the past and I haven't changed anything on my machine - any ideas???
