Unable To Retrieve The @@Error Code In Stored Procedure

Aug 25, 2006

Hi All,

In my application on click of Delete button, actually I am not deleting the record. I am just updating the flag. But before updating the record I just want to know the dependency of the record ie. if the record I am deleting(internally updating) exists any where in the dependent tables, it should warn the user with message that it is available in the child table, so it can not be deleted. I want to check the dependency dynamically. For that I have written the following procedure. But it is updating in both cases.

CREATE proc SProc_DeleteRecord
@TableName varchar(50),
@DeleteCondition nVarchar(200)
As
Begin
Begin Transaction
Declare @DelString nvarchar(4000)
set @DelString = 'Delete from ' + @TableName + ' where ' + @DeleteCondition
execute sp_executeSql @DelString
RollBack Transaction --because i donot want to delete the record in any case
If @@Error <> 0
Begin
select '1'
End
Else
Begin
Declare @SQLString nvarchar(4000)
set @SQLString = 'Update ' + @TableName + ' set DeletedFlag=1 where ' + @DeleteCondition
execute sp_executeSql @SQLString
select '0'
End

End

Thanks & Regards

Integration Services :: Unable To Get Return Code Executing SSIS Package From Stored Procedure?

Jun 11, 2015

We are executing a SSIS package using a xp_cmdshell command in a SP as shown below. This package does consumes time to execute almost 90 minutes and does get executed successfully too. But the strange thing is we don't get the result in @result variable just because somehow the next sql statement after the below highlighted statement doesn't get executed at all.  After checking execution stats for the SP using the query attached below we observed that somehow the SP vanishes out of the execution stats for the server.

 SELECT @cmd = 'dtexec /FILE "D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server100DTSPackages.....PopulateReport.dtsx"'
  SELECT @cmd = @cmd + ' /Decrypt T@!0er '

Error When Running A Stored Procedure From My Code

May 9, 2008

 Hi all,      I wonder if you can help me with this. Basically, Visual Web Developer doesn't like this part of my code despite the fact that the stored procedure has been created in MS SQL. It just won't accept that bold line in the code below and even when I comment it just to cheat, it still gives me an error about the Stored Procedure. Here's the line of code:          // Define data objects        SqlConnection conn;        SqlCommand comm;        // Initialize connection        string connectionString =            ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[            "pay"].ConnectionString;        // Initialize connection        conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString);        // Create command         comm = new SqlCommand("UpdatePaymentDetails", conn);        //comm.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;        // Add command parameters        comm.Parameters.Add("PaymentID", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int);        comm.Parameters["PaymentID"].Value = paymentID;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewPayment", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50);        comm.Parameters["NewPayment"].Value = newPayment;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewInvoice", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50);        comm.Parameters["NewInvoice"].Value = newInvoice;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewAmount", System.Data.SqlDbType.Money);        comm.Parameters["NewAmount"].Value = newAmount;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewMargin", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50);        comm.Parameters["NewMargin"].Value = newMargin;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewProfit", System.Data.SqlDbType.Money);        comm.Parameters["NewProfit"].Value = newProfit;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewEditDate", System.Data.SqlDbType.DateTime);        comm.Parameters["NewEditDate"].Value = newEditDate;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewQStatus", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50);        comm.Parameters["NewQStatus"].Value = newQStatus;        comm.Parameters.Add("NewStatus", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50);        comm.Parameters["NewStatus"].Value = newStatus;        // Enclose database code in Try-Catch-Finally        try        {            conn.Open();            comm.ExecuteNonQuery();        }

Error: Unable To Retrieve Column Information From The Data Source

Jul 7, 2006

Hi,

I am trying to set up a data flow task. The source is "SQL Command" which is
a stored procedure. The proc has a few temp tables that it outputs the final
resultset from. When I hit preview in the ole db source editor, I see the
right output. When I select the "Columns" tab on the right, the "Available
External Column List" is empty. Why don't the column names appear? What is
the work around to get the column mappings to work b/w source and
destination in this scenario.

In DTS previously, you could "fool" the package by first compiling the
stored procedure with hardcoded column names and dummy values, creating and
saving the package and finally changing the procedure back to the actual
output. As long as the columns remained the same, all would work.
Thats not working for me in SSIS.

Thanks in advance.
Asim.

Many Lines Of Code In Stored Procedure && Code Behind

Feb 24, 2008

Hello,
I'm using ASP.Net to update a table which include a lot of fields may be around 30 fields, I used stored procedure to update these fields. Unfortunatily I had to use a FormView to handle some TextBoxes and RadioButtonLists which are about 30 web controls.
I 've built and tested my stored procedure, and it worked successfully thru the SQL Builder.The problem I faced that I have to define the variable in the stored procedure and define it again the code behind againALTER PROCEDURE dbo.UpdateItems

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@eMobile", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox11")).Text);
So is there any way to do it better than this way ??
Thank you

Return Error Code (return Value) From A Stored Procedure Using A Sql Task

Feb 12, 2008

I have a package that I have been attempting to return a error code after the stored procedure executes, otherwise the package works great.

I call the stored procedure from a Execute SQL Task (execute Marketing_extract_history_load_test ?, ? OUTPUT)
The sql task rowset is set to NONE. It is a OLEB connection.

I have two parameters mapped:

tablename input varchar 0 (this variable is set earlier in a foreach loop) ADO.
returnvalue output long 1

I set the breakpoint and see the values change, but I have a OnFailure conditon set if it returns a failure. The failure is ignored and the package completes. No quite what I wanted.

The first part of the sp is below and I set the value @i and return.

CREATE procedure [dbo].[Marketing_extract_history_load_TEST]

@table_name varchar(200),

@i int output

as

Why is it not capturing and setting the error and execute my OnFailure code? I have tried setting one of my parameter mappings to returnvalue with no success.

Retrieve Stored Procedure

Jan 15, 2007

I need some help retrieving the stored procedure listed below.  I would like to use a drop list to select the variable "UserName" and textboxes to send the variables "StartingDate" and "EndingDate".  How do I pass these variables and then have the results show up in a gridview?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  CREATE     PROCEDURE [dbo].[aspnet_starterkits_GetTimeEntryUserReportByUserNameAndDates] @UserName NVARCHAR(256), @StartingDate           datetime, @EndDate          datetimeASDECLARE @UserId AS UNIQUEIDENTIFIERSET NOCOUNT ONSELECT @UserId=UserId FROM aspnet_users WHERE UserName=@UserNameSELECT @UserName as UserName, SUM  (timeentryDuration) AS TotalDuration,SUM  (timeentryOvertime) AS TotalOvertimeHoursFROM aspnet_starterkits_TimeEntryWHERE aspnet_starterkits_TimeEntry.TimeEntryUserId=@UserId AND TimeEntryDate between @StartingDate and @EndDate

Asp.net Page Is Unable To Retrieve The Right Data Calling The Store Procedure From The Dataset/data Adapter

Apr 11, 2007

I'm trying to figure this out
 I have a store procedure that return the userId if a user exists in my table, return 0 otherwise
------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Create Procedure spUpdatePasswordByUserId
@userName varchar(20),
@password varchar(20)
AS
Begin
Declare @userId int
Select @userId = (Select userId from userInfo Where userName = @userName and password = @password)
if (@userId > 0)
return @userId
else
return 0
------------------------------------------------------------------
I create a function called UpdatePasswordByUserId in my dataset with the above stored procedure that returns a scalar value. When I preview the data from the table adapter in my dataset, it spits out the right value.
But when I call this UpdatepasswordByUserId from an asp.net page, it returns null/blank/0
 passport.UserInfoTableAdapters oUserInfo = new UserInfoTableAdapters();
Response.Write("userId: " + oUserInfo.UpdatePasswordByUserId(txtUserName.text, txtPassword.text) );
 Do you guys have any idea why?

Retrieve Data From A Stored Procedure

Jul 27, 2004

Hello Group
I am new to stored procedures and I have been fighting this for a while and I hope someone can help. In my sp it checks username and password and returns an integer value. I would like to retrieve some data from the same database about the user (the users first and last name and the password of the user). I can’t retrieve the data. Here is my code.
CREATE PROCEDURE stpMyAuthentication

--@fldLastName char( 30 ) OUTPUT

fldUsername = @fldUsername
IF @actualPassword IS NOT NULL
IF @fldPassword = @actualPassword
RETURN 1
ELSE
RETURN -2
ELSE
RETURN -1

fldFirstName,
fldLastName,
fldPassword
FROM
tbMembUsers
Where
fldUsername = @fldUsername
GO

If IsValid Then
If MyAuthentication(Trim(txtuserID.Text), Trim(txtpaswrd.Text)) > 0 Then
FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(Trim(txtuserID.Text), False)
End If
End If
End Sub

Function MyAuthentication(ByVal strUsername As String, ByVal strPassword As String) As Integer
Dim myConn As SqlConnection
Dim myCmd As SqlCommand
Dim myReturn As SqlParameter
Dim intResult As Integer
Dim sqlConn As String
Dim strFirstName, strLastName As String

sqlConn = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("sqlConnStr")
myConn = New SqlConnection(sqlConn)

myCmd = New SqlCommand("stpMyAuthentication", myConn)
myCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

myReturn = myCmd.Parameters.Add("RETURN_VALUE", SqlDbType.Int)
myReturn.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue

myCmd.Parameters.Add(Trim("@fldUsername"), Trim(strUsername))
myCmd.Parameters.Add(Trim("@fldPassword"), Trim(strPassword))
myCmd.Parameters.Add("@fldFirstName", strFirstName)
myCmd.Parameters.Add("@fldLastName", strLastName)
myCmd.Parameters.Add("@fldPassword", strPassword)

myConn.Open()
myCmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
intResult = myCmd.Parameters("RETURN_VALUE").Value

If intResult = -1 Then
lblMessage.Text = "Username Not Registered!<br><br>"
Else
lblMessage.Text = "Invalid Password!<br><br>"

End FunctionAt this time I am not getting any errors. How can I retrieve the data that I am after?

Retrieve A Dataset From Stored Procedure

Apr 8, 2006

Hi, Can anyone please help me solve this problem.
My functions works well with this stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE proc_curCourseID@studentID int ASSELECT * FROM StudentCourse WHERE mark IS NULL AND studentID = @studentID AND archived IS NULLGO
But when I applied the same function to the following stored procedure
CREATE PROCEDURE proc_memberDetails@memberID int ASSELECT * FROM member WHERE id = @memberIDGO
I received this message
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Procedure or function proc_memberDetails has too many arguments specified.Source Error:

Line 33: SqlDataAdapter sqlDA = new SqlDataAdapter();
Line 34: sqlDA.SelectCommand = sqlComm;
Line 35: sqlDA.Fill(dataSet);
Line 36:
Line 37: return dataSet;
The function I am using is returning a DataSet as below:
public DataSet ExecuteStoredProcSelect (string sqlProcedure, ArrayList paramName, ArrayList paramValue)
{
      DataSet dataSet = new DataSet();
      SqlConnection sqlConnect = new SqlConnection(GetDBConnectionString());
      SqlCommand sqlComm = new SqlCommand (sqlProcedure, sqlConnect);
      sqlComm.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;

      for (int n=0; n<paramName.Count; n++)
      {
            sqlComm.Parameters.Add(paramName[n].ToString(),Convert.ToInt32(paramValue[n]));
      }

      SqlDataAdapter sqlDA = new SqlDataAdapter();
      sqlDA.SelectCommand = sqlComm;
      sqlDA.Fill(dataSet);
      return dataSet;
}
If this is not the correct way, is there any other way to write a function to return a dataset as the result of the stored procedure?
Thanks.

How To Retrieve Large String From Stored Procedure?

May 4, 2007

Hello! This is my scenario...

Development - Visual Studio 2005
Database - MS SQL 2005

I have written a stored procedure that has a output parameter whose type is NVARCHAR(MAX). Then I use C# to wrap this stored procedure in OLEDB way. That means the OleDbType for that parameter is VarWChar.

This works fine if the string size is less than 4000. If more than 4000, the remaining part will be chopped off. The situation gets worst if I replace VarWChar with LongVarWChar. There is no error nor warning at compiling time. But there is an exception at run time.

So... Does anyone here can help me out? Thanks in advance.

Retrieve Multiple Variables From Stored Procedure (SQLHelper)

Jun 22, 2004

Hi all,

I am using SQLHelper to run a Stored Procedure.
The Stored Procedure returns 3 variables:

ie:

SELECT @Hits = COUNT(DISTINCT StatID) FROM Stats

...etc...

The SP is currently called as below:

SqlParameter[] sqlParams = new SqlParameter[]
{
new SqlParameter("@FromDate", Request["FromDate"]),
new SqlParameter("@ToDate", Request["ToDate"]),
};

My question is this: How do I retrieve these variables?

I know I need to declare a new SqlParameter and change it's Direction to Output but I am unsure of the exact syntax required to do this.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

How To Retrieve The Result From A Stored Procedure That Executes A Dynamically Built Up Sql Query?

Apr 2, 2008

We have a sort of complex user structure in the sense that depending on the type of user the data resides in different tables. Therefor I needed a stored procedure that finds out what table to look for a certain column in. Below is such a stored procedure and it works like it should but my problem is that I don't know how to retrieve the result (which should be a string so can't use RETURN).

I've tried using an OUTPUT variable but since I just run EXEC (@statement) in the end I can't really set an output variable the common way (as in EXEC @outputVariable = PMC_User_GetUserValue(arg1, arg2..)) or can I?

I have also tried to use SELECT to catch the result somehow but no luck and Google didn't help either so now I'm hoping for one of you... Notice that you don't have to bother about much of the code except for the end of it where I want it to return somehow or figure out a way to call this stored procedure and retrieve the result.

Thanks in advance
ripern

Trouble Writing Stored Procedure To Retrieve Records By Selected Month And Year

May 15, 2007

hi,
i am a nubie, and struggling with the where clause in my stored procedure. here is what i need to do:
i have a gridview that displays records of monthly view of data. i want the user to be able to page through any selected month to view its corresponding data. the way i wanted to do this was to set up three link buttons above my gridview:
[<<Prev]  [Selected Month]  [Next>>]
 the text for 'selected month' would change to correspond to which month of data was currently being displayed in the gridview (and default to the current month when the application first loads).
i am having trouble writing the 'where' clause in my stored procedure to retrieve the selected month and year.
i am using sql server 2000. i read this article (http://forums.asp.net/thread/1538777.aspx), but was not able to adapt it to what i am doing.
i am open to other suggestions of how to do this if you know of a cleaner or more efficient way. thanks!

Unable To Get Return Value From Stored Procedure

Jan 2, 2007

Hi everyone

I am trying something that should be so simple but I cant get it to work. I am calling a stored procedure to lock a table and update a counter. I have tried to follow the exact code use in the MSDN examples but it doesnt work and always returns VT_EMPTY. It also returns a closed recordset so attempting to close it fails. The database is updated correctly and there are no exceptions just no return value.

Here is the stored procedure

CREATE PROCEDURE GETMODELID AS
DECLARE @i INT
BEGIN TRANSACTION
 SET @i=(SELECT ModelID from tblModelID WITH (HOLDLOCK,TABLOCKX))+1
 UPDATE tblModelID SET ModelID = @i
COMMIT TRANSACTION
RETURN @i
GO

Here is the ADO written in C++.

TDatabase DB;

try

{

if(DB.Open()==false)

{

AfxMessageBox(DB.m_ErrStr);

return FALSE;

}

_variant_t vtEmpty2 (DISP_E_PARAMNOTFOUND, VT_ERROR);

_CommandPtr spCMD;

CREATEiNSTANCE(spCMD,Command);

spCMD->ActiveConnection = DB.m_Cnn;

spCMD->CommandText = "GETMODELID" ;

spCMD->CommandType = adCmdStoredProc;

spCMD->Parameters->Refresh();

_RecordsetPtr spRS;

_variant_t vRa;

spRS = spCMD->Execute( &vRa, &vtEmpty2, adCmdStoredProc );

_variant_t rtn(DEF_PARAM(spCMD,0L));

DB.Close();

return (int) rtn;

}

from inventory
where stockquantity = 0

select @item_nam = item_nam
from inventory where nsn = @nsn

delete from inventory
where nsn = @nsn
and stockquantity = 0
GO

what would the vb.net code be to display the item_nam if the query was successful in deleting a record, but would then retutrn a different mesage if the item was not deleted becasuse the stockquantity was not equal to zero. Right now it returns the item_nam even if the record wsa not deleted.
ANy help is much appreciated.
