I have a Table which stores data from two different databases. To update it I made a Web Form that opens a single record where you can edit the data (using TextBox). Then there is an Update Button, which is supoused to Update that record in the SQL Database. However, for some reason it does not work. I get no error and every thing seems to work fine, but the data is not updated. When running the same UPDATE statment in the SQL Query Analyzer everything works just fine. Here is the code for the button click (For test purpose I've set a spesific record to update the Task cell to "Test" and I've adde a DataGrid to be able to see if something is happening):
Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click
I need to update the AcquiredFrom table from source_office table. both the tables are from different database and server. we can match them on Code and source code. Initially if we can find out the discrepancies and then how can we fix them. Also there might be some dealerships that would have to be added to acquiredfrom table from the source_office table if they are not there already.
Table 1 (AcquiredFrom) database (Service) Server(FS3) Select Code, Name, ContactName, AddLine1, AddLine2, city, state, zip, PhoneNumber FROM [dbo].[AcquiredFrom] Order by Code Table 2 (source_office) database (DCP_PROD) Server (DPROSQL) Select source_code, name, addr1, addr2, city, state_id, zip, phone FROM [dbo].[source_office] order by source_code
Hello, My company Intranet has a form that agents can use to post their comments about the company to upper management, but our customer service department would like to modify the form so that the agent has to pick from a comment type. The dropdown options on the form will be as follows: ComplimentsComplaintsGeneral CommentsSuggestions Each dropdown option has a designated table in a SQL DB.Using postback on the same page, I need to change which fields of the form are visible based upon which dropdown selection the user chooses, and I need the fields to then be inserted into the table that corresponds with the dropdown selection item. For example: If the Compliments dropdown selection is picked, I need a text box to show for the user's location, the name of the customer, account number, and the message box. Once the submit button is clicked, the characters in these boxes need to be inserted into the Compliments table using its data adapter. However, if the user selects Suggestions, the name of the customer and the account number should not be visible, since these fields do not exist and when the submit button is pressed, the Suggestions table should be updated. If you need more information, I will provide whatever is needed. As always, thanks for everyone's assistance. Chris
In my web page(.Net/c#) , I want to update few fields of a database table. The code is fine. The stored procedure through which I perform the execution is fine. I'm confidently saying this is because, if I try to do the update direclty while executing the stored procedure, it gets updated. I'm facing a weird problem while trying to update the fields from my web page. When I make an update and submit it, the first time it shows the updated value in the screen. But if I try to refresh it or redisplay the data ( I guess whenever it makes a trip to the database), the old values gets populated instead of the new values. I tried debugging it, but everything seems to be working fine. I looked up the execution in SQL Profiler, everything seems to be fine. I've no clue what's going on. I've proper permissions to make an update. So there is no permission issue. Could someone tell me how to handle this issue and what might be the possible problem which makes the values not update in the database?
Hello, I have been serching for weeks to resolve this problem. I am new to ASP.NET and trying to make the migration from ASP which I have programmed in for years. I am using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and SQL Express Edtion. I have been working through the Microsoft Video Training at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/beginner/learningpath/ and created a web site using Tier 3 Lesson 8 as the model. My new web site which is a simple phone book applicaiton lets me read the table and select the record without any problem. But the update form lets me edit but when I attempt to Apply the update I get the following error. Server Error in '/Phonebook' Application. ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSource1' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: FirstName, LastName, PhoneNumber, BossGroup, Department, BossPickup, ShowInPhonebook, Type, Original_FirstName, Original_LastName, Original_PhoneNumber, Original_BossGroup, Original_Department, Original_BossPickup, Original_ShowInPhoneBook, Original_Type, Original_ItemID. Description: An unhundled expception occured during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originiated in the code. The Stack Trace basiclly showes the same error as above. Also, when I attempt to delete the record I do not get an error but the record does not delete. What is interesting is that I can add a record so I do not believe that it is a security permissions issue. I have the ISS Authinication Method Enable Anonymous Access set on with full control. If anyone has any insight as to why this is occuring please let me know.
In Microsoft SQL Server, I have a documents table and a table whichcategorizes the documents, which we'll call categories.I tried running UPDATE statements on the categories table previouslyand I ran into a foreign key constraint. The error given was "UPDATEstatement conflicted with COLUMN REFERENCE constraint FK..."So I got rid of the Foreign Key relationship, and tried running anUPDATE statement against the categories table again.I'm now getting the following message:'Cannot UPDATE "categories" because "documents" exists.'There must be something hanging around maintaining that relationship, but I'm not sure where it would be found.I was thinking about dropping the table and then adding it back again, but I'm not entirely sure what that would do.Any help is appreciated in advance.thanks,Geoff
I am unable to update a table (either by opening it and entering datadirectly or through a form). I have set the recordsettype property toupdateable snapshot and have set the permissions to update inside ofthe SQL Server 2000 to checked. Unfortunately, these items have notworked. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.Dave Christman

I'm very new to asp.net and c#, I have been thrown in the deep end with a project at work and I'm really struggling to overcome this problem so any help will be very greatly appreciated. I have a form with a number of textboxes that users use to update records in a database table with the use of a stored procedure. The problem is that I can't get the form to just update the boxes that a user has filled out. The form is working at the moment only if the user fills out all the boxes on the form which obviously is a waste of time if they only want to update one field. I have tested the stored procedure and it works fine. Please find the below code I'm trying to use! 1 protected void Targets_Insert(object sender, EventArgs e) 2 { 3 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection objConn = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(); 4 objConn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=SQL1;Password=rdbx;User ID=rdbx;Initial Catalog=Pronet"; 5 objConn.Open(); 6 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand objCmd = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("Update_Targets", objConn); 7 objCmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; 8 9 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pdate = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@date", System.Data.SqlDbType.DateTime); 10 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pcontacts_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@contacts_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 11 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter papplicants_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@applicants_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 12 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pclients_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@clients_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 13 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pHeadhunts_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@headhunts_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 14 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pCanvass_Calls_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@canvass_Calls_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 15 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pRegens_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@regens_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 16 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pJobs_Added_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@jobs_added_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 17 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pCVS_sent_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@CVS_sent_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 18 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter puserid = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@userid", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 19 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter punique_applicants_sent_new= objCmd.Parameters.Add("@unique_applicants_sent_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 20 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter paverage_rate_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@average_rate_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 21 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter paverage_salary_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@average_salary_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 22 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter paverage_fee_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@average_fee_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 23 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pdeals_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@deals_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 24 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter poffers_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@offers_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 25 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pinterviews_taken_place_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@interviews_taken_place_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 26 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pinterviews_arranged_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@interviews_arranged_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 27 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter punique_mailshots_sent_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@unique_mailshots_sent_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 28 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter pmailshots_new = objCmd.Parameters.Add("@mailshots_new", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); 29 puserid.Value = Convert.ToInt16(userid.Text); 30 pdate.Value = Convert.ToDateTime(date.Text); 31 32 objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); 33 objConn.Close(); 34
Bear with me plase as I am nto very familiar with the coding world. The project I am working on is giving me troubles. I am trying to set up a form that can be used on line for our sales staff. It is a call activity form that I was hoping to submit to the DB I Have created in SQL. I would like the sales staff to fill out this form and then have their information transferred to the DB so that I can generate reports from that data. The trouble I am having is getting the intial connection to the DB opened up using the submit button on the form. I go into the code behind the page, and I have entered many scripts with no success. I continue to see that I receive erros when I try to use the opening line: Dim cn As New ADODB.Connection
If anyone out there has some sample scripting that would help me with this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
Question related to Visual Basic Video Lesson 09 (Databinding.wmv) by Bob Tabor.
Made a table and a UI form according to this lesson (table colums: CustomerID, FirstName, LastName).
Is it possible to use the same or an identical looking query form to find "Bob" by typing Bob in the Fist Name textbox or "Tabor" by typing Tabor in the Last Name textbox as in FileMaker?
Follow-up to: http://forums.asp.net/t/1237676.aspx The update command seems to be deleting my data. If I set the Parameter "DefaultValue" to "NULL" then it updates that field to the literal string: NULL WTH Nick <UpdateParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="DevelopmentArea" Type="String"/> <asp:Parameter Name="DevelopmentGoals" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="DevelopmentPlans" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="CurrentStatus" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="FutureState" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="DetermineFactor" Type="String"/> <asp:Parameter Name="MentorRequested" Type="Boolean" DefaultValue="False"/> <asp:Parameter Name="MentorList" Type="String"/> <asp:Parameter Name="CheckPointDate" Type="DateTime" /> <asp:Parameter Name="DateUpdated" Type="DateTime" /> <asp:Parameter Name="PlanPKID" Type="Int32" /> </UpdateParameters>
I have set up a 'Parameters' table that solely stores all pre-assigned selection values for a webform. I customized a stored query to Select the values from the Parameters table. I set up the webform. The result is that the form1.apsx automatically populates each DropDownList task with the pre-assigned values from the 'Parameters' table (for example, the stored values in the 'Parameters' table 'Home', 'Business', and 'Other' populate the drop down list for 'Type'). The programming to move the selected data from form1.aspx to a new table in the SQL database perplexes me. If possible, I would like to use the form1.aspx to Postback (or Insert) the "selected" data to a *new* column in a *new* table (such as writing the data to the 'CustomerType' column in the 'Customers' table; I clearly do not want to write back to the 'Parameters' table). Any help to get over this hurdle would be deeply appreciated.
I've a weird problem in my application. In of the pages, while trying to update the text box "Name", when I enter Linda's test, it gets saved as Linda''s test. I'm not sure if this is a problem due to SQL server. When I look at the stored procedure, I don't anything different. Also, when I update the table directly in SQL Server, the result is displayed in single quote. But if I update the field thro' the application, the returned name is with double quotes instead of single quote. Has any of you faced problems like this? What am I missing? What do I need to do to get the name saved the way I entered (with single quotes) instead of double quotes?
Making a form where a patient will fill out check boxes and after submission would like to present their submitted form back if they choose the option and be able to edit the data entered. What I am wanting to do is repopulate the form, but the checkboxes will need a database with this information that will then go to a php script and take the values entered into the various checkboxes and check those values from the database that were entered origionally. So lets say the database haspid - int(5) auto_increment primary keypatient_first - varchar(30) first namepatient_last - varchar(50) last namearthritis - bool or what?copd - bool or what?tin ear -bool or what? What would be the best to check against to repopulate does a true false make sense or should it either be NULL or the actual condition (just kidding about the tin ear)?

How to I make it so that a Authenticated User to a website can append a record to a SQL table. I have watched the video on the asp.net website about using database on a web, it shows how to allow a user to change a record in a database, but nothing I have seen so far shows how they can append a record.
What I am trying to do: I am building a website for a ATV club using Visual Studio 2005 and c#. I am setting up users or members on the site (club members will have a user account, while all others will be un-authenticated users. I am setting up a classifieds area where members can post items for sale, items they are looking for, etc.
I am planning to use roles to allow authenticated users access to a webpage located in a restricted directory. There I want to place a XHTML page which would allow the users to post their classified ads for free. I will have another page that will allow everyone to view the ads not just club members. I want to make this as easy to maintain as possible. I don’t plan on having all the postings come through me to be placed on the web, I want it all automated.
I've a query wich with I select buildings form a table. I've a second table with a few building I don't want in my select (exclude form select). How can I make this?

I have a frustrating problem occuring in Sql 2005. We have the need in a few client upgrade situations to update the indentity column of a common resource table. It is populated each release with common records and the keys got out of sync for two releases due to developer error.
In Oracle this is not a problem. In SQL we get the message "Cannot update identity column 'mycolumn'". To get around this in SQL 2000 we updated the table by running the following.
exec sp_configure 'allow update', 1 go reconfigure with override go update syscolumns set colstat = colstat - 1 where id = object_id(Event') and name = 'EventKey' go exec sp_configure 'allow update', 0 go reconfigure with override go
In SQL 2005 this gives us the error
'Ad hoc updates to system catalogs are not allowed'.
Now I understand the need to keep people out of the system tables. However, can I have some sort of solution to this problem. I'm running a bunch of ad hoc queries to update the values and I don't want to create an exact duplicate of the table and copy over the information with the changes. It is much easier to run a simple update.
Be patient with me I am a relative newbie to all this.
Trying to develop a very simple package to update data in daily chunks from one server to another. Now my first step was to obtain the last date in my currenttable which I have a SQL task as my first operation. This brings back the last date for which I have data stored, all fine and dandy. I am then taking the single row result set, datetime data type, and feeding this to a variable.
My problem is my variable does not update, it just sits there and unusually for a variable, doesn't vary at all. Now we have an old hand with SSIS who tells me I'm doing nothing wrong and is equally puzzled. I have tried all datatype combinations and I'm getting nowhere fast.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The server is running:
Windows 2003 R2 SP1 SQL Server 2005 SP1
The server has also been configured as the DNS server.

I'm grappling with this issue which I thought was basic VB programming; I'm trying to insert a random number (between 100 and 999) into a SQL table column (=Status_ID). This is input as part of a user submitting helpdesk requests via a APS.Net Web Form. The 'Status_ID' field is obviously not visible to the user but will help reference this Helpdesk request on the database. Here is the code:Protected Sub submitButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles submitButton.Click If Page.IsValid Then ' Define data objects Dim conn As SqlConnection Dim comm As SqlCommand ' Read the connection string from web.config Dim connectionString As String = _ ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ITNet_Students").ConnectionString ' Initialize connection conn = New SqlConnection(connectionString) ' Create command comm = New SqlCommand( _ "INSERT INTO HelpDesk (First_Name, Last_Name, StudentID, PersonalEmail," & _ "CategoryID, SubjectID, Description, StatusID) " & _ "VALUES (@First_Name, @Last_Name, @StudentID, @PersonalEmail, " & _ "@CategoryID, @SubjectID, @Description, @StatusID)", conn) ' Use randomize Randomize() Dim randomvalue As Integer ' Generate random value between 999 and 100. randomvalue = Int((900 * Rnd()) + 100) ' Add command parameters comm.Parameters.Add("@First_Name", System.Data.SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50) comm.Parameters("@First_Name").Value = fnameTextBox.Text . . . comm.Parameters.Add("@StatusID", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int) comm.Parameters("@StatusID").Value = randomvalue 'Enclose database code in Try-Catch-Finally Try ' Open connection conn.Open() ' Execute the command comm.ExecuteNonQuery() ' Reload page if the query executed successfully Response.Redirect("HelpDesk.aspx") Catch ' Display error message dbErrorMessage.Text = _ "Error submitting the help desk request! Please try again later, and/or change the entered data!" Finally 'close connection conn.Close() End Try End If End Sub----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I keep getting the error message under 'Catch' and the page 'HelpDesk.aspx' is not reloading; the 'comm.ExecuteNonQuery()' is not executing. Can anyone spot any inconsistencies in the declaration of the 'randomvalue' variable?P.S: this code works fine if you replace 'randomvalue' with any integer in 'comm.Parameters("@StatusID").Value = randomvalue'
