Hi,
While building a vista 64 Ultimate machine recently, I temporarily installed the express edition toolkit with visual studio 2005.
I have since uninstalled sql, and reinstalled the 64-bit developer edition. However it appears the toolkit did not uninstall completely - now when I try to install workstation components, bol, etc. It says that the upgrade is blocked.
Hard as it is to believe that an express install can block a developer edition install, it does.
I've tried reinstalling the ee toolkit, as any client/management tools are better than none - but this fails, saying that the components are already on the machine!! sheesh!
It doesn't give an option to uninstall.
Has anyone got any ideas. I've uninstalled *everything* sql related, reinstalled with sp2 twice. I can see and create databases using visual studios server explorer, but this does not give any management options. Does anyone know how I can remove whatever registry entries are fouling up this installation?
I have to uninstall Sql Express because of a problem that arose after I tried to make a connection from VS2008 Server Explorer to SqlExpress ( connection strings run from C3 code worked fine). I began getting weird errors and the issue has not been resolved after a long thread I ran in this forum.
It turns out there are plenty of dire warnings on the web and MSDN not to do this or that before you tried to uninstall. To tell you the truth I have uninstalled Sql Express in the past quite a few times but every time you fight new challenges and it is difficult to learn from experiecne. I have always done it headlong without considering consequences, eventually this bulldozed approach worked every time but there is a chance that with the .NET getting more complicated this time I may get in trouble.
I am referring to this article on MSDN: before you uninstalled Sql Express:
which is awfully unclear. It seems it recommends uninstalling ALL versions of .NET from 2.0 on.
These are versions on my Vista machine:
v1.0.3705, v1.1.4322, v2.0.50727, v3 .0, v3.5
Do I have to uninstall any? I don't think I've done it before.
Now, those .NET versions I listed above are just folders in my WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework directory. When I try to open Turn Windows features On & Off I can see only .NET 3.0 Framework, nothing else. Not even .NET 3.5!
i installed sql server 2005 express by running SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE....now i can not uninstall it because the exe created a temp file to unpack the install files....of course those files are cleaned up after install or whenever i cleaned up the temp files on my pc.....so how do i uninstall?
I'm trying to create a all-in-one installation package for my application which make use of the SQL 2005 Express edition. It seems that there's no way to roll my application MSI installation with the database engine, the only ways around this problem is to use a bootstrap exe to launch the sql setup before or after my main application's MSI. This works fine during installation and I have modified the original .NET framework bootstrapper to do just that.
The problem comes when uninstalling my application. Since the uninstall process is all done through the MSI engine, how would I take the sql instance with me during my application's uninstall? Since the sql engine is also based on MSI technology, I won't be able to do that during the removal step of my application's MSI, right? Any one know any "clean" ways around that? Besides not letting users uninstall my application directly from Add/Remove program and force them to call another exe simular to my installation bootstrap?
I'm considering to use 3rd party tools like InstallShields, but even them are recommending people to stay with the MSI technology which is where the problem is. I'm running out of ideas really fast...
I installed MS Express 2005 a few years ago and now I want to uninstall it and reinstall 2008. I played with 2005 but never used it for anything but now I need to get serious about it because my job is requiring it. I installed 2005 express compenents like SQL server, VB, C, ect... When I go to my programs and try to add/remove any of the 2005 express components the uninstall 'install' just hangs. I choose the option to uninstall the component (not reinstall or repair) but no matter what I try it hangs. After it hangs if I try to uninstall another component it says cannot perform the task because another install process is running. I even let the uninstall sit for 45 minutes to see if it would finish but the process is not using any CPU and the progress bar does not move so it is truly hung. I briefly tried an uninstaller but it crashed too. Any clues on what to do next or what I should try to clean my machine so I can install express 2008? Thanks.
I have installed the SQL 2005 Client tools in anticipation of our servers been upgraded to SQL 2005 soon. I would like to create a local instance of SQL 2005 i.e. Express so I can try out functionality while I wait for the servers to be upgraded.
Is this possible or is now installing Express going to mess up some of the currently installed tools?
Hi everyoneDoes anyone know or has anyone heard of any migration tools whichare/might be available for converting SQL Server 2000 databases to SQLServer 2005 Express?I'm guessing it is probably a bit early but it was worth a shot!ThanksDave
<!--[if !supportLists]-->What administrative tools/utilities are installed with a "base" install of SQL Server Express SP2 (e.g., ability to issue command-line SQL, GUI's for accesssing/adminstering databases, etc.)? How can I control what is installed? -Kyle<!--[endif]-->
Can the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio interact with local SQL 2005 Express databases. So can we use one management tool for both our server (non-local) SQL 2005 Databases and our local SQL 2005 Express databases (That the developers have free reign over).
and *cannot* get SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition CTP to uninstall. I get the following dialog box:
"The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is Write_CommitFlag. The error is:Unable to write property into cache flagCommit Unable to write property into cache: "flagCommit" XmlRW Error: Failure loading xmlrw.dll CheckAllProcedures() returned 2."
In the registry in Windows 10, I looked inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server. Is LoginMode still in some subfolder of that, or has it been moved to another place? Perhaps a differently named key is now used. Or perhaps it's configured in a config file for SQL Sever 2012 express.
I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64.
During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description: "Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor"
The installation ran fine with no errors. After install I looked for the Management Studio but couldnt find it anywhere. No SQL Server Profiler or Database Tuning Advisor either. The only tool that appears to have installed is the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
If I check my Start Menu, the only 2008 items that exist are Microsoft SQL Server 2008 >
Configuration Tools >
SQL Server Configuration Manager SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting SQL Server Installation Center

The installation SQL 2008 R2 Management Tools on a Windows 7 workstation fails with the error, The specified account already exists.
Final result: SQL Server installation failed. To continue, investigate the reason for the failure, correct the problem, uninstall SQL Server, and then rerun SQL Server Setup.
I am running SQL Server 2005 x64 Enterprise under Windows 2003 x64 Enterprise. My current backup strategy uses T-SQL jobs run by SQL Agent (writes out *.bak files) and then I have an Integration Services job that copies the *.bak files to our NAS device. I have performed a restore without issue. The jobs are all automated every four hours via SQL Agent. Is this a sound strategy or are there additional benefits to using 3rd party tools? If so, what are the advantages and which tool provides them?
Login failed for user 'TOSHIBA-USERASPNET' I know that the file persmission for the web application have to include aspnet, so i keep resetting the folder permission for aspnet in file manager, but the login failed keeps coming back every day or two problem is after working with VS05 Pro, SQL Server Management Studio CTP, somehow the aspnet persmission get changed, use alot of sqldatasource wizards and often there is a conflict/hang between the datasource wizard and the need to have the mdf in a dettached state within VS server explorer, not sure but the procedure to fix this seems to be to reboot, detach and re-attach the mdf in the Sql server Studio tool, re-apply the aspnet file permission on the web app folders (wonder should i be doing this in IIS instead), make sure the mdf within server explorer is detached, the it works anyway, getting real tired of the resulting delays and design time derailment, clues greatly appreciated, thanks sometimes i can use View in Browser when in VS05 form view and i wont get the aspnet folder permission error and other times i do. last thing, is it a bad idea to give aspnet full permission for the entire web applicaiton??
Is there - apart from the notorious RESTORE HEADERONLY - an tool which is able to tell which SQL Server version created a specific BAK file? I'm looking for a tool that can be used w/o an available/running SQL Server installation.
Alternatively, is there any documentation about what is read with RESTORE HEADERONLY so I could write a tool myself?
Where would I find the version "bytes" in a BAK file?
I have created a database using VB Express 2005 express edition and I have created number of tables and SP's etc.
I am trying to use the database diagram tool but I get an error stating that the database doesn't have a valid dbo. I say yes to the prompt about making myself a valid dbo but I then get a message stating that I do not have permissions to imprersonate the dbo.
Hopefully a simple question: Is it possible to use Maintenance Plans created on SQL Server Management Studio (installed as part of an instance of SQL Server 2005 Standard Ed.) to back up databases running on an instance of SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services? I don't need directions, just whether or not it is permitted.
I've been able to create the plans including establishing connections to from SSMS to the the SQL Express instance, but they keep erroring out. I just need to know if this is actually permitted since Maintenance Plans are not available on Management Studio Express Edition.
I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
No, I'm not having any problems(yet) with servicepack 5a. However, in order to fine-tune an installation script, I need to install 5a on my test server several times.
So....how do I uninstall it? I was going from sp 3 to 5a. TIA
I am trying to use this database thing. with visual basic express 2005 but It sais before I have to uninstall all this stuff. what will happen If don't uninstall it. do I have to uninstall it to get this software????
Hi! I'm trying to uninstall SQL Server 7.0 going through Add/Remove Program and getting message "sqlserver.exe in use". All my applications are closed, SQL Server service is stopped and Agent is stopped also. What else should I check to be able to uninstall it?
I downloaded the SQLEVAL but did not install it on my computer. It is not something I am going to need to use. Can I just delete the file folders to remove it, or do I have to finish the install, then go through the uninstall process? I would rather avoid the install because it has caused problems for a co-worker and I don't want to run into similar issues.
This may be the silliest question you guys see on the boards, but I would rather look stupid then to do something I shouldn't and screw up my computer.
If you need to know I am running Windows XP with SP2 installed.
I tried to uninstall SSRS and SQL Server from my machine. I removed it using ADD/REMOVE Program. Now I can not see SQL Server in ADD/REMOVE Program. But Still SSRS is runing in my machine. But I can not initiate SSRS in configuration manager. It says smthing abt WMI error. When I try to install SQL, it says another service is running. Now I think If I remove SQL and SSRS from my machine smhow, and install it again I can fix this. But now I can not either install it or uninstall it. Can smone please help me?
