Uninstalling The Beta Version Of SQL 2005
Dec 3, 2005
I cannot install the new version of sql 2005 because it will not install when the beta version is installed. However when I try to uninstall the beta version it says it needs .Net framework 2.0. I have .Net framework 2.0 and so I am stuck with what to do next. Ideas anyone?

When I installed Visual Studi C# Express, SQL Server Express was not installed because SQL Server Beta was already there. I tried to uninstall SQL Server Beta several times and failed to do so through Add/Remove Programs. Accidentally, I uninstalled SQL Server Set-up programs from Add/Remove and consequently, I am unable to uninstall SQL Server Beta through Add/Remove anymore.
Is there a utility to download that enable me to uninstall SQL Server Beta? I have no way to install SQL Server Express without removing the previous version. It seems to be a real problem from the many questions I found on MSDN.
Please help.

Hi All,
I had installed a beta version of SQL Server (SQL Server 2005 CTP) and now I want to install a full version of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on my machine. I have properly uninstalled all the CTP componenets from Add-Remove programs and even deleted the registry data of that installation. I have also removed the related folders from the hard drive.
When I run the setup of the full version it says that setup has detected the beta versions of either .Net Framework, Visual Studio or SQl Server. Remove the beta components using Add-Remove programs and try again. Can anyone help me out of this problem?
Regards,
Sachin

Hi all,
Yesterday, I just downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) and tried to install it in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I got the following error: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup The Microfost .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running setup.
This morning, I downloaded the NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) from the Microsoft Download Center and installed it in my Windows XP Pro PC. Then I tried to install the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) again. This time I got a new error: SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use ADD or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again.
I am confused and lost in this installation problem. Was the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) a wrong Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 I downloaded and installed in my PC? Where is the right Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the SQL Server 2005 Express? Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

I have a database which was created in a beta release of SQL Server Express. It was also create when I had the .Net Framework 2.0 Beta installed.
Since then, I have installed .Net Framework 2.0 (Current Release) because that is what was required for MS SQL Server Management Studio Express.
When I try to connect to the DB now it says Cannot connect to server.
I also have the mdf/ldf files. When I try to attach them on another computer running the latest version of SQL Server Express it says:
Database 'Name' connot be upgraded because its non-release version (587) is not supported by this version of SQL Server. You cannot open a database that is incompatible with this vertion of sqlservr.exe. You must re-create the database....
Any ideas how i can get the mdf/ldf files converted over? Or how I can attach the the ealier version of sql server express?? thanks.

I have a server with a fresh install of SQL Server 2000. I accidentilly installed the Sql server 2005 SP1 disk (instead of the actual software). And what it did was a nightmare. It installed the client tools and link them to the 2000 instance. I went back and attempted to install the actual 2005 copy. Ever since I have items in my add/remove that will not uninstall. I removed everything except the 2005 Engine and Analysis services. I've followed the MS article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967) with removal, trying everything. All got removed except the Engine and Analysis services!!!!
I've gone into the registry and reviewed the keys, etc! I've run removal attempts fof both command prompt and add/remove, does not work. I've tried reapplying SP's, etc no luck.
Unless I get these services off I can not install 2005 and 2000 again.

Hi all,
Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?
Thank you very much
Tony

I installed MS Express 2005 a few years ago and now I want to uninstall it and reinstall 2008. I played with 2005 but never used it for anything but now I need to get serious about it because my job is requiring it. I installed 2005 express compenents like SQL server, VB, C, ect... When I go to my programs and try to add/remove any of the 2005 express components the uninstall 'install' just hangs. I choose the option to uninstall the component (not reinstall or repair) but no matter what I try it hangs. After it hangs if I try to uninstall another component it says cannot perform the task because another install process is running. I even let the uninstall sit for 45 minutes to see if it would finish but the process is not using any CPU and the progress bar does not move so it is truly hung. I briefly tried an uninstaller but it crashed too. Any clues on what to do next or what I should try to clean my machine so I can install express 2008? Thanks.

We have a 64bit os machine that we accidently loaded the 32 bit version of sql server on. We now want to upgrade it to 64 bit sql server, but we now have a production database on it. My understanding is that all I have to do is detach the production database, upgrade to 64bit sql server, then reattach the database. Is this really all I have to do?

I am running into an issue trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 64-bit. It hangs at the same point: Removing backup files. I then get a message that, "The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it." The instance that I am trying to uninstall is in a cluster hosting two other SQL Server installations. I have tried a few combinations when attempting to uninstall: running the cluster group containing the server I am uninstalling on a different cluster node than all the other cluster groups; running them all on the same node. The only one I haven't tried is moving the Cluster Group containing the IP address of the cluster, cluster name, etc to another node while running the other groups on the other node. Has anyone run into this issue? Each of the nodes has been rebooted several times during these attempts and we are using Windows Server 2003 Clustering. Again, the hang happens at the same point every time. The exact error(s) from the even log are as follows:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it.
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29530. Failed to set registry settings for server network libraries. The action is SetShilohRoot. The error is 2 (The system cannot find the file specified.
)

Hi, all. I see two conflicting notes about whether one can install the SQL Server 2005 Trial/Evaluation and then upgrade to Workgroup or Standard editions, without uninstalling the Evaluation edition.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx seems to say YES, you can upgrade to Workgroup/Standard from the Evaluation edition.
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/faq.mspx says NO, you can only upgrade to Enterprise edition from the Evaluation edition. For Workgroup and Standard, you must uninstall the Trial first.
Which is the correct answer?
Thanks,
Stephen

What's the deal with SQLServer 2005 Beta?I've just got a magazine with a free cover disk with VB 2005 beta, and also includes SQLServer 2005. I've installed it, but I can't get itto do anything. It seems to have installed ok, there are the data filesfor allthe usual system and example databases in place, and TaskManager shows that SQLServer is definitely running. However theonly tool that came with it is called 'Computer Management' whichallows configuration options on the network, and to start and stopSQL Server. There are none of the Enterprise Manager controls toaccess the database, create tables, create users and so on. Enterprisemanager from SQL Server 2000 seems unable to detect the newinstallation. What's going on? Are there client tools I can download to access thedatabase with?

Hi. I have a strange problem. ASP.NET pages works, but when I try to estamblish a connection, I get an error: Shared Memory Provider:Connection was terminated pointing to Connection.Open();.I must say that this same code has worked before and I have some Windows App that works (connects to a the same MSSQL), and ASP.NET pages don't.I've tried to Disable the Shared memory from SQL Configuration Manager, but no luck. The only thing that I've notice is that when I go to IIS Manager and click properties on web site properties and under the ASP.NET tab i combobox I don't have anything, just empty combobox.I repeat that ASP.NET pages working, only when I want to contact the database, error raises.I've tried to instal framework again, hoping that combobox wan't be empty, but it's still the same. Please, help me with this. Iam getting desperate and a little bit angry most of all because this same code has worked before.Thanks.

Hello,
I am trying to uninstall Sql Server 2005 Beta in order to upgrade to
the Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition but without success.
Here is what I have already done:
I had VS 2005 2.0 Beta and Sql Server 2005 Beta installed. I wanted to
upgrade to the Professional Editions so I uninstalled VS 2005 2.0 Beta
and Sql Server 2005 Beta from Add/ Remove programs.
I have successfully installed VS 2005 Professional Edition but when I
try to install Sql Server 2005 it gives me an error saying that SQL
Server 2005 has detected incompatible components from beta versions of
Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005.
Please advise.
Thank you.

I have completed the uninstallation instructions for my beta versions of SQLExpress (repeatedly). I have used the manual unistall procedures also. I have physically removed the SqlServer directory from the the Program Files directory. The result is the same. This message appears every time I try to to install the MS SQL Advanced package:
"SQL Server 2005 setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, Net Framework, or SQL 2005. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."
The detailed instructions are NOT detailed enough.
I have uninstalled the .NET 2.0 package and re-installed it. The SERVICES window still lists the SQL Server as present even though it is not started.
Any suggestions?
