Hi All,
I had installed a beta version of SQL Server (SQL Server 2005 CTP) and now I want to install a full version of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on my machine. I have properly uninstalled all the CTP componenets from Add-Remove programs and even deleted the registry data of that installation. I have also removed the related folders from the hard drive.
When I run the setup of the full version it says that setup has detected the beta versions of either .Net Framework, Visual Studio or SQl Server. Remove the beta components using Add-Remove programs and try again. Can anyone help me out of this problem?
Regards,
Sachin

Hi all,
Yesterday, I just downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) and tried to install it in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I got the following error: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup The Microfost .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running setup.
This morning, I downloaded the NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) from the Microsoft Download Center and installed it in my Windows XP Pro PC. Then I tried to install the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) again. This time I got a new error: SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use ADD or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again.
I am confused and lost in this installation problem. Was the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) a wrong Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 I downloaded and installed in my PC? Where is the right Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the SQL Server 2005 Express? Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

Hi all,
Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?
Thank you very much
Tony

We have a 64bit os machine that we accidently loaded the 32 bit version of sql server on. We now want to upgrade it to 64 bit sql server, but we now have a production database on it. My understanding is that all I have to do is detach the production database, upgrade to 64bit sql server, then reattach the database. Is this really all I have to do?

Hello,
I am trying to uninstall Sql Server 2005 Beta in order to upgrade to
the Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition but without success.
Here is what I have already done:
I had VS 2005 2.0 Beta and Sql Server 2005 Beta installed. I wanted to
upgrade to the Professional Editions so I uninstalled VS 2005 2.0 Beta
and Sql Server 2005 Beta from Add/ Remove programs.
I have successfully installed VS 2005 Professional Edition but when I
try to install Sql Server 2005 it gives me an error saying that SQL
Server 2005 has detected incompatible components from beta versions of
Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005.
Please advise.
Thank you.

I have completed the uninstallation instructions for my beta versions of SQLExpress (repeatedly). I have used the manual unistall procedures also. I have physically removed the SqlServer directory from the the Program Files directory. The result is the same. This message appears every time I try to to install the MS SQL Advanced package:
"SQL Server 2005 setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, Net Framework, or SQL 2005. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."
The detailed instructions are NOT detailed enough.
I have uninstalled the .NET 2.0 package and re-installed it. The SERVICES window still lists the SQL Server as present even though it is not started.
Any suggestions?

Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007
client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it
says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started
it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know
what this is all about?
Any ideas?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have a database which was created in a beta release of SQL Server Express. It was also create when I had the .Net Framework 2.0 Beta installed.
Since then, I have installed .Net Framework 2.0 (Current Release) because that is what was required for MS SQL Server Management Studio Express.
When I try to connect to the DB now it says Cannot connect to server.
I also have the mdf/ldf files. When I try to attach them on another computer running the latest version of SQL Server Express it says:
Database 'Name' connot be upgraded because its non-release version (587) is not supported by this version of SQL Server. You cannot open a database that is incompatible with this vertion of sqlservr.exe. You must re-create the database....
Any ideas how i can get the mdf/ldf files converted over? Or how I can attach the the ealier version of sql server express?? thanks.

When I installed VS 2005, it installed the default version of SQL Server 2005 Express that ships with Visual Studio 2005 installer media.
How can apply SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to update this existing instance?
Currently, if I run this query:
SELECT @@version
I get the following:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
After applying SP1, I should get 9.00.2047.00.
Should I just go to this link and download & install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/
Thank you,
Bashman

I recently upgraded to SQL Server 2005. My databases are stable and functioning perfectly. However, these databases are using the 32-bit version of SQL Server. The servers are going to be upgraded to 64-bit processors and new Server 2003 64-bit OS's.
Everything I have been able to find says that it is a simple process of backing up the databases in the 32-bit environment and restoring them in the 64-bit environment.
Could it really be that easy? I am looking for someone who has done this to provide any "heads up" commentary on what to look out for during that process. Can anyone provide some information on this process?
Thanks.

I have a basic question to ask:
I have two server both showing SQL server 2005 installed. One of them is a licensed SQL server 2005 and the other is a express edition.
I am trying to find out which one in is express and which is the full licensed version.
I checked at the control pane and they both show up as SQL server 2005. The directory structure at Program Files looks the same.
Please help me.

What's the deal with SQLServer 2005 Beta?I've just got a magazine with a free cover disk with VB 2005 beta, and also includes SQLServer 2005. I've installed it, but I can't get itto do anything. It seems to have installed ok, there are the data filesfor allthe usual system and example databases in place, and TaskManager shows that SQLServer is definitely running. However theonly tool that came with it is called 'Computer Management' whichallows configuration options on the network, and to start and stopSQL Server. There are none of the Enterprise Manager controls toaccess the database, create tables, create users and so on. Enterprisemanager from SQL Server 2000 seems unable to detect the newinstallation. What's going on? Are there client tools I can download to access thedatabase with?

Hi. I have a strange problem. ASP.NET pages works, but when I try to estamblish a connection, I get an error: Shared Memory Provider:Connection was terminated pointing to Connection.Open();.I must say that this same code has worked before and I have some Windows App that works (connects to a the same MSSQL), and ASP.NET pages don't.I've tried to Disable the Shared memory from SQL Configuration Manager, but no luck. The only thing that I've notice is that when I go to IIS Manager and click properties on web site properties and under the ASP.NET tab i combobox I don't have anything, just empty combobox.I repeat that ASP.NET pages working, only when I want to contact the database, error raises.I've tried to instal framework again, hoping that combobox wan't be empty, but it's still the same. Please, help me with this. Iam getting desperate and a little bit angry most of all because this same code has worked before.Thanks.
