Does anyone know of any shareware tools out there that can connect to
sql server 2000 from Unix(specifically Sun Solaris) and perform
queries and return result sets ? Appreciate your help.
i was tried to install SQL Server 2k Client tools connectivity to my win 95, i was follow the installation procedure, 1). install common library updates for win 95, and then 2). install the server component (client connectivity tools), the installation is running well till copying "Microsoft Data Access Components - MDAC", i got error message : "Installation of the MDAC package failed (-1)". (so the installation doesn't complete).
please anybody help me, what's happen to my computer ?????????
First, let me start by saying I know the answer to this, but due to politics any answer I give will be viewed with some disdain and disbelief.
A Unix/Network [rtdpmin one our sister agencies is trying to solve a problem that really does not need to be solved, but ....
The sister agency uses Information Builder's WebFocus on Unix. When they try to read my data warehouse in SQL Server 2000 it times out on them (on their end and they claim they cannot fix it) (This is using the supplied WebFocus ODBC/JDBC driver for SQL Server). This has lead to accusations of us not letting them read the data.
After much gnashing of teeth over "if you do data and data analysis for a living, why do I have to show you how to set-up an ODBC connection" we have shown them how to connect to the data, read it, and transfer it using MS-ACCESS, EXCEL, and more importantly SPSS. This is not good enough because they cannot figure out how to put it into WebFocus.
Their network person has come-up with the brilliant idea of reading the .mdf directly by installing Windows for Unix on the Unix side and then just pointing to the .mdf file and "reading it ".
Unless I have missed something somwhere (I will admit possible), I know you need a driver to read MS-SQL and that driver in every example I have seen could care less about the physical location of the .mdf file. It wants to know what database, what server (ip or name) and what security/login to use.
Could someone give me a more "technical answer" or even Microsoft's party line so I do not have this person mucking around with my production server trying to acomplish the impossible.
Hi,I am having a problem accessing SQL Server 2000 via UNIX. I amaccessing SQL Server 2000 from Solaris using Sybase Open Client(CT-Lib). I have a situation where I might want to pull(select) some information from a DB2 database, and possibly push(insert) some data to the same DB2 database. I am sure this is being done in the real world. WHat software, infrastrucure, etc would I need to accomplish this. Is it as simple as using DTS and the proper drivers, or are their better products and solutions. ANy input appreciated.
Hi, I have installed SQL 2000 on my system and when I try to start it gives me an error saying 'ordinal 29 cant be found in the dynamic link library odbcbcp.dll. Please advice!!
I am upgrading our SQL 2000 Server hardware. I am looking for a way to "mirror" this server. The only items that we are changing are updating the hardware and the OS will be Server 2K3 instead of Server 2k
Does anyone have a reliable method, or suggested processes for migrating one server to another?
Hi, I am trying to create a connection string that will connect to a SQL Server 2005 Registration on a remote machine. I have a SQL Server 2000 registration (installed) on the same machine and so I think there may be a conflict. The SQL 2005 registration is denoted as HARDYSQL5 and the 2000 registration is merely HARDY (the machine name). I need to connect to a database on the HARDYSQL5 registration but I am not connecting. I have tried various connection strings but none have worked. I get a Login failure. I think this is red herring because I doubt its even finding the database.I can connect to the 2000 db with:"Server=HARDY;Database=Perimeter;UID=use;pwd=example;" But its fails with the following, for example:"Server=HARDYSQL5;Database=Perimeter;UID=use;pwd=example;" "Server=HARDYSQL5;Database=HARDYSQL5Perimeter;UID=use;pwd=example;" "Server=HARDY;Database=SQL5Perimeter;UID=use;pwd=example;" I'm gon go nuts. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
We want to run Unix Scripts on SunSolaris which Connected to MS SQLServer 2000.We would like to connect to SQL Server 2000 from Solaris. Is there anyway to connect to Sql Server 2000 natively (just like isql we use inwindows which has the client) with the help of third party ct library?or any other drivers or tools???TIA
I have an aplication in VB6 that uses an ODBC to link to a SQL database.
Until today all my clientes had SQL Server2000 and my aplication worked fine.
Some of my cliente have now SQL 2005 and my application still woks fine except in one of them.
In this particular cliente it gives an error when the application tries to read/write a particular table and a particular column.
This column is data type BIT and my code is
... Myrs("Servida")= true ...
Any idea why the error appens? And why only in a particular machine and not all of them with SQL2005?
What can I do? I changed the code for
myrs("servida")=abs(cint(true)) and solved the problem, but is not the way that I want to go. I do not want to change thousands of line of code where I read/write a column in the database data type BIT.
Is there a way to configure SQL Server 2005 the way that it controls data type BIT?
Is it possible to connect SQL Sever 2005 Express from SQL Sever 2000 Enterprise Manager? Tried to connect but got the error message "must use SQL Server management tools to connect this sever"

I recently upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. I have Oracle databases I need to share data with. I was using the Heterogeneous Services (hsodbc) from Oracle and connected to SS 2000 fine. Since I've upgraded, I can't use hsodbc to connect to my SS 2005 database. I get the following error:
ORACLE GENERIC GATEWAY Log File Started at 2006-09-06T09:40:07
I've recently upgraded a server from sql 7 to sql 2000. The server has two network cards, so developers can connect through our private network or the public network. Everything works fine now except that we cannot connect through the public network via tcp/ip. i cannot figure out why. in the sql server log, it claims to be listening on both ips. Both ips are using the same port number(1433), is this bad? I did not change any network settings, i just upgraded sql, so i believe it's a sql 2K issue. any ideas? thanks.
I have an application which is under development in VS 2005 but the database is in SQL Server 2000. We are facing some strange problem with the connectivity between VS 2005 - SQL Server 2000. I have tried all the possible ways or solutions i found when searching in google but unable to find a solution. This had become a major challenge for us now to identifiy the root cause of the problem
Error: "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" Please suggest.
Given than once SQL Server 2005 is installed, SQL Server Studio has to be used instead of Enterprise manager, can both SQL 2000 and 2005 be used on the same machine, be it development or production? (The second one to be installed probably would be a named instance.) Any experiance of doing this or a pointer to a Microsoft recommendation would be appreciated.
We have an OLD vbscript process that is running on a Windows 2000 box. The box has Sql Server 7.0 on it (not sure if relevant). The process used to hit a Sql Server 2000 database, but that database was recently migrated to 2005 (on different server). Now the connection string obviously no longer works, and we can't even add a DSN to 2005 (does not recognize new server). The machine pings the new SQL server without any problem, but cannot connect for data access.
I assume there should be some driver that I can install to fix this, but have yet to find one on the web. Does anyone have a recommended download to remedy this?

I am giving our configuration details:
Driver Used - Microsoft SQL Server Driver 2000 SP3
Protocol Used - TCP/IP which open socket connection on default port 1433
Authentication - Mix Mode Authetication ( using sa account login)
Even setting done within LOCAL instance running on server to allow max. connections i.e 32767
My observation is that some kind of virus threat may causing this error, because if server will be rebooted, we doesn't
