Unspecified Error Opening Table(s) In Enterprise Manager

Greetings:
We have a database with approximately 15-20 tables. Last week, using Enterprise Manager, we were able to open any of these tables and return all rows. Yesterday, when we tried to do this, we got the following message:
An Unexpected Error happened during this operation.
[Query] - Query Designer encountered a Query Error: Unspecified Error
Can anyone tell me what might be causing this and how to fix it? Barring that, can anyone suggest some general steps I might take to possibly eliminate this problem without knowing the cause? Last, can you point me to a good resource for investigating problems of this kind, such as a knowledge base (other than Microsoft's TechNet)?

everytime i go to open tables in enterprise manager, i right click the table and then select open all of it. however, i was gone from work for a week, and when i came back i got an error message when i did this. it is as follows:
An unexpected error happened during this operation.
[Query]-Query Designer encountered a Query error:
Unspecified error.
I dont know what to do. all i can think of is rebooting the computer, but it is the LIVE databases for webpages. please help me!

Hi
I am getting an error when i try to open MSEM. I have also tried to open this via mmc and get the same.
I have an attached a screen shot of the error. I tried re-installing SP4, but this did not fix it. Please help. We need to move our SQL to a new server and since I can't see any of it, I can't really manage it before the move.
I would appreciate any help.

Hi,
I am getting following error message while opening DTS package,
"No provider exist fro this connection on this computer", Invalid class string.
When I use the SQL Enterprise Manager (SEM) Return All Rows option to open a table, or you attempt to create or design a view, the following error occurs:
An unexpected error happened during this operation.
[Query] - Query Designer encountered a query error : unspecified error
This is working fine from remote enterprise manager.
Recently I have migrated all the databases including system databases from old server to new server.
I reinstalled latest MDAC to correct this problem, but I did not get any solution for this.
I have installed SQL Server service pack 4, do I need a SP4 re-install and how I can do this.

I Detached the user default database from the server (Using EM) and when i was attaching the database,there is a problem. Enter prise Manager is working but In a servergroup, a particular server is not opened(Expand). It shows the error as cannot open user default database, Login failed, i entered in EM using sa login.
Please any one can help me in this regards.

I have a column defined as smalldatetime. Default length (4), and "allow NULLS" is checked.In the Enterprise Manager UI, when i enter data into that table row, if i just tab past that column, all is well, and the value is represented in the UI as <NULL>.The problem comes once i ever enter a date into that column. Say i have entered a date (all is well), and now i want to remove that entry and go back to NULL (after the date value has been committed, different entry session, say).How is that done?It seems to me, once a date has ever been entered into that column, now, if i try to remove it, i get the error "The value you entered is not consistant with the data type or length of the column, or over grid buffer limit". I have tried deleting the value, entering spaces, entering the string NULL or the string <NULL>; maybe some other tries as well, but none works, i always get that error message and am not allowed to proceed past that cell until i restore a date value to it. I want to get back to <NULL>.Anybody know?Thank you.Tom

When I try to schedule a dump of a database, I receive the following error message "Error 2812: Stored Procedure `master.dbo.sp_schedulersignal` not found. I looked in the msdb databases and this stored procedure was not listed. I recently had to reinstall SQL server due to problems with IP sockets. How do I go about correcting this problem? Do I need to somehow reinstall this Stored Procedure? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what has caused this to suddenly happen, but each time I attempt to launch Enterprise Manager I get the error:
"MMC cannot open the file C:MSSQLBINNSQL Server Enterprises Manager.MSC
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file."
Now, I've already attempted to reinstall the client tools with no luck. The file does exist, and I have not changed my security settings -- at least that I'm aware of.
I use EM daily, so I'm perplexed as to why over night it stopped working. Is it possible a Windows Update could have caused this?
If you have any insight I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
PS. I'm using SQL 7.0 on a WinXP Pro laptop.

SQL Enterprise Manager Version 7.0, Windows XP professional version 5.1The list panels (right half of the screen) will not show the tables.The top of the panel reads: 245 items, which is correct, but the panelreads: there are no items to show in this view. This error is occurringon one database on one server. How do I export an sql table from a server db using SQL Enterprise Manager?
I have tried using Microsoft Web Data Administrator but it can't connect to the db.
The db that is live has all the data, but I don't have a copy locally (I accidently deleted it)...which is why i need to export it to an sql file.
Can someone please help me as I have exhausted my own knowledge.

I can't work out how to easily copy a table through sql enterprise manager including all data structure and the data ... I tried exporting one table then importing it into another but it wont transfer any of the actual data. I don't feel like retyping all 6000 records and I need somehow duplicate this table ... any ideas ???????

Hhmm! Trying to create a trigger on a table called ACCOUNT owned by SYSDBA. SQL 7 on NT 4. Authentication is on NT logon ID.
Create Trigger [SGIACCTINS] on [ACCOUNT] for insert as
insert into SGI_ACCT_DB (accountid,account) select accountid,'I' from inserted
The error message, this is in SQL Manager, is
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42S02)
Error 208: Invalid Object Name 'ACCOUNT'

Lately I noticed that I cannot return any rows using enterprise manager. The version I am using is MS-SQL 7.0 with SP 1 on NT. This will return an error:-

I can return rows using another computer with enterprise manager installed.

wondering if you can help me.
Im having an issue with SQL Server Enterprise manager. I cannot access an MSDE DESKTOP SQL Server 2000 installation that is on the same machine as enterprise manager.
I can access the MSDE Databae from another machine fine, but when I try to register that DB locally in Enterprise manager I get this error.
PC007 - Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
I had to install sqlserver 2000 using k=dbg and skip the MDAC install as it was giving me an install error but this shouldnt have mattered as I am running XP SP2 and it has MDAC 2.8 installed by default.
Any Ideas?

After having installed my software at customer's I found out that it's impossible to open tables from Enteprise Manager (Query Designer error). I'm not sure it's because of my soft, but my clients are quite annoyed.
I have had this situation on my own server , and the only thing I could do was to reinstall the server.
Any other ideas? And what is the origin for this error?

When do right click on the table in SQL EM and select Open Table | Return all rows, get Error:
An unexpected error happened during this operation. [Query]- Query Designer encountered a query error: unspecified error.
It's happening on all tables, all databases, all protocols, all servers, on 2(!) of 3 installations of SQL EM. I can successfully run Select in Query Analyser against the same servers/dababases.
Today is the first day it started. I cannot recall anything particular I've done on Friday that can cause this.

I have just installed SQL Server 7 on a server. Everything was installed fine without any errors. The only problem occurs when I use Enterprise Manager, I right click on a table in the Northwinds database to open table and return all rows. The form pops up and no rows appear. Nothing in the table form works. I can view the records from Query Analyzer, and can also view them through Enterprise Manager when using a workstation client. This problem only occurs at the server. Any thoughts.

I recently installed SQL 2000, runing on a Win2000 Server. If I try to use Enterprise Manager to open a table using the return rows command, I get the following error

Reinstalling the client Tools has not helped.

When you right click open table to return all rows, click on the "Show/Hide Grid pane" icon . When you click on any row the first column called "Column" a dropdown shows all the filed names of that particular table.
This feature used to work fine untill recently wherein when I click on the column, I don't get to see all the filed names but now it just shows TableName.* i.e. all columns.
This is the case when I try to create a view in enterprise manager also. When you add a table to create a view, I cannot see all the filed names . I'm not sure what to do , to get the field names to appear? Is it some kind of setting in enterprise manager.
All the info would be appreciated.

Receiving error "Microsoft ODBC Server Driver Timeout Expired".
This is happening when running queries or stored procedures through VB6 and also in Enterprise Manager.
Have set query timeout to 0 and command timeout to 0 but no joy.
Enterprise manager cannot even perform a count of records (16Million) without timeing out.
Can anyone help...at end of tether!

Hello,
Yesterday I was in SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager and it got hung up. I couldn't get out of it without rebooting my machine. When I tried to enter Enterprise Manager again, I got an error message "MMC Cannot Open The Selected File". So I completly shut down my machine and then started it back up, but still go the same message. I stopped the services and then rebooted again,but no luck either. Today, I still cannot open Enterprise Manager. Has anyone experienced this and worked through it? I am debating as to whether or not I should uninstall SQL Server 2000 and reinstall it? Any advice?

I have a new installation of SQL Server 2000 Dev Edition on a Win2K3 Standard Edition Server that I used for development. I just set this machine up in th last week and installed all Win2K3 patches and then installed SQL2K and SP3a. I have a single named instance. I just noticed today that I cannot view table data or use the Query part of EM. When I right click a table and select Open Table->Return All Rows it gives me an error dialog "An unexpected error happened during this operation". While the EM is diplaying this dialog the EM screen looks like Internet Explorer and says "Action Canceled - You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied." I believe that this is a EM issue as I cannot view table content on other remote server. ANy ideas? For some reason whenever I look at the SQL statement of a particular table, the table name displays twice.For example,SELECT * FROM State StateEven when I execute this statement, it still returns the correct results. It does this for all tables in this particular database. I also check another database and thoses display the table names in the SQL statements correctly. Does anyone know why the table name would display twice in a table inside of a particular database?

Hello I am receiving the dreaded mail error listed above. I can send out a test E-mail from Enterprise Manager to operators, but I cannot run this Transact query:
EXEC master.dbo.xp_sendmail @RECIPIENTS = araz***@***.com(removed email address),
@SUBJECT = 'test'
I receive:
Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80040111
I have stopped/restarted the SQL SERVER AGENT but haven't done much else as I haven't been able to.
Should it work through transact SQL if the test email works from Enterprise Manager?
This is SQL 2000 SP4 running on Win2K in the domain. Thank you.

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file.However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

IF someone can assist me. Everytime I load up enterprise manager the service manager turns off. And the enterprise manager can't connect to the local database. But everytime i turn it back on and try to connect again it shuts it off and around and around we go. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

One single table when openen from a MSAccess project file gives error:
The setting for DecimalPlaces property must be from 0 through 15, 255 for Auto (default).
After which the table is openend normally. I don't recall setting Decimal Places to the table. The only numeric fields are two INTs that are also ID's (PK and FK). This error occurs also when recreating the db project. These fields can not be edited eitther from MSAccess nor Enterprise Manager.
What can be done on the table, resp. MSAccess to change this?

We hit this error about 2 weeks ago on SQL Server 2000 and it seems to be getting worse.
We have a table that stores phone numbers (wtns). We have a number of pages that query this table. I can sit and click a link that queries this table over and over and finally after about 40-50 clicks, it will fail and repeatedly fail for about a minute with:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'Unspecified error
If our system is busy, I can get to the error much quicker. The strange thing is this table and these pages have not been modified, some of them haven't been touched in years so these queries worked just fine for that long until Dec 4th when the problems started (nothing significant happened that day or prior to that either).
I have the SQL Profiler running and what I see is the SELECT stmt completes just fine. The stmt looks as expected and I can even run it manually and it works fine. Then I see a series of audit login audit logout pairs in the profiler but nothing else, where I would expect to see more Queries from that page on other tables.
If I go to any of the 5 pages or so that has a similar query to this table, I can get the same error. No other table in our DB causes this problem. There is no problem cleaning up the connection/resultset either.
Any ideas where to look? We've done alot recently to try and fix it:
Reinstalled MDAC, reinstalled SQL Server SP, increased memory, shrunk the trans log, reindexed the table, changed the cursor around (made it readonly as it initally wasn't), modified permissions. Nothing seems to work.
This is on SQL Server 2000MDAC 2.81.1128.0Windows 2000 SP4IIS
Our Connection string looks like the following:
Session("Conn") = "DRIVER={SQL Server};SERVER=DS20021218001;DATABASE=ODB;UID=webUser;PWD=***
Any ideas on where to go next? What to try?
