I need to be able to update a database in SQL Server Express from an Access database that a user will be uploading. Can anybody give me some suggestions about how to accomplish this besides reading in each record and updating the SQL server one record at a time.
I'm having an issue with a CLR Stored procedure. Everything works great in a 32 bit environment, I have a CLR SP that updates an xml file stored on a local drive. When I execute the Stored proc it does go and update what I want it to in a 32 bit system. When I run the CLR SP on a 64 bit cluster, I seem to have give the "everyone" group write permissions to my G: drive (which is where the file is located that I'm updating). What security context is this SP running under? I thought it would be either under the SQL Service account (which is a domain user in the local administrators group) or what I'm logged in as when I run it from Management Studio (which is a domain admin, also in the local administrators group). If I have given the local administrators group "Full Control" access to the G: drive, why isn't this enough? Why do I have to give the Everyone group write access?
The security context seems odd to me, it seems like it's not running as either one of those 2 users I mentioned, because if it was, then it should be able to update the xml file.
Any help appreciated. Here's the error I'm getting:
Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure usp_XMLWriter, Line 0

Hello,I am trying to update records in my database from excel data using vbaeditor within excel.In order to launch a query, I use SQL langage in ADO as follwing:------------------------------------------------------------Dim adoConn As ADODB.ConnectionDim adoRs As ADODB.RecordsetDim sConn As StringDim sSql As StringDim sOutput As StringsConn = "DSN=MS Access Database;" & _"DBQ=MyDatabasePath;" & _"DefaultDir=MyPathDirectory;" & _"DriverId=25;FIL=MS Access;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTimeout=5;" &_"PWD=xxxxxx;UID=admin;"ID, A, B C.. are my table fieldssSql = "SELECT ID, `A`, B, `C being a date`, D, E, `F`, `H`, I, J,`K`, L" & _" FROM MyTblName" & _" WHERE (`A`='MyA')" & _" AND (`C`>{ts '" & Format(Date, "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss") & "'})"& _" ORDER BY `C` DESC"Set adoConn = New ADODB.ConnectionadoConn.Open sConnSet adoRs = New ADODB.RecordsetadoRs.Open Source:=sSql, _ActiveConnection:=adoConnadoRs.MoveFirstSheets("Sheet1").Range("a2").CopyFromRecordset adoRsSet adoRs = NothingSet adoConn = Nothing---------------------------------------------------------------Does Anyone know How I can use the UPDATE, DELETE INSERT SQL statementsin this environement? The update statement is not working in my application, no error in C# and no error in ms-access. When I paste the update query into the ms-access query tool and replace the parameter values (@....) with real values, is will update the record.

I am using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition along with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Now here's what I did:
Rather than use the Database Explorer within VB2005 EE to create my database, I thought I would try creating my database externally using the downloadable "SQL Server Management Studio Express" tool. (I figured that if I had a stable data model for my database, I could side-step the copying/overwriting issues that come with creating a database as part of a VB solution.)
So having gotten my database setup and populated with some sample data, I am now trying to connect to it from Visual Basic. In VB (in the context of working on a VB Solution), I do the following:
Select Add New Data Source... from the Data menu to bring up the Data Source Configuration Wizard. Choose "Database" for the data source type and click Next. Click "New Connection..." to bring up the Add Connection dialogue.
For data source I choose "Microsoft SQL Server Database File", with ".NET Framework Data Provider..." as the data provider. Navigate to my existing database file (in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData" folder). Use Windows Authentication.
When I click "Test Connection" or just click "OK", i get the Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition error shown at the top of this message.
Is this occuring because I'm trying to access my database as an .MDF file rather than through Named Pipes / Shared Memory / TCP/IP? If this is the case, is there any way that I can tell VB2005 EE to use Named Pipes / Shared Memory / TCP/IP? Is this a fundamental limitation of VB2005 EE?
Thanks in advance to the guru who is able to explain this to me...
I am developing an application that uses Access database (mdb file) to store the user data. The user of this application is not interested in the database file (to view in MS Access Environment). Does the user machine requires MS Access installation to run my application or just some couple of dlls (OleDB driver, Access DB Engine,..) should be enough to run my application?
its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job) Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package. its working fine...
Problem if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running; the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet, and pasting the new data; new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!
some what lenthy explanation--> its needed for my dear powerful microsoft responders. i think i 've explained my problem clearly, if i don't let me know your queries, i'll try my level best.
I am developing a C# mobile 5.0SDK app that utilizes SQL2005 Compact Edition device files on Vista using as far as I know the latest SPs and versions.
Last night, I could open tables from the Server Explorer .sdf file, see the contents, edit the schema, etc. Now today, I assume all of a sudden,I am able to open schema but cannot open the table to see the contents. I get:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition captioned error dialog box that says "Access to the database file is not allowed. [ File name = ],[,,]
Using Sql Server 2005 Management Studio Express, I can open the table, do queries etc. I have tried rebooting, deleting, opening old projects, deleting dataset, disconnecting mobile device, but I still get the same error. I have tried stopping the SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS) service on the server but get:
Cannot open MSSLQ$SQLEXPRESS service on computer 'p5w64'. Access is denied.
I have no idea what to do next to start moving forward again, other than try the XP environment which I will do next.
I'm not really sure my question belongs to here...
I have a database in Access (from microsoft office, of course), and I want to transfer convert it to SQL Server. Does anyone know how I can do it? It must be very simple, but I haven't found it yet....
Hi, I was sent a .bak file which I need to open and place in sql server express. I googled this but did not come up with any clear instructions. Can some please give me a good link that explains this. Thanks
Hi all, I have the "Northwind" database in my Sql Server Management Studio Express.

I copied these T-SQL statements from a book and I do not know how to correct them. Please help and tell me how to correct these errors.
Is there a way to link an Access 97 database to a SQL database which would update weekly as changes in the Access 97 database were made? In fact, the SQL database will be just a copy of an Access database. If there were tables added in the Access database these tables should also be added to the SQL database as well.
Hello, My problem is this. I did a dts of my old access database to a new sql 7 db. I used Access 97 as the frontened and connected the two databases using linked tables. I made sure all the indexes and such were correct in the SQL database before linking + made sure all the security was corret. When I open a table in the access frontend that is linked to the sql backend, I cannot update or change any data even though I am part of the NT administration group which is given full permissions to the database. Any reason why?
Hello,I'm in need of a little assitance using MSAccess with an SQL Server 2000 database backend.I currently have an application populates an Access database,but I would like to be able to send this data directly to the SQLServer also. Potential solution include the use of ADO/ADOX to make aconnection, a Pass-through/Update query to send the datato an identical database schema on the SQL Server, andstored procedures to make everything efficient. I don't have muchexperience with any of these technologies, but would greatlyappreciate any help and /or code snippets to get things moving.Thanks,Daryl

I run the following statement from an update query in access but I can't find the way to run this same query in MSSQL. Please give me some ideas how to modify and run this in MSSQL.
Thank you
"UPDATE DISTINCTROW ZipToTerr, leadsUS SET leadsUS.Terr = [ZipToTerr]![TerrNum] WHERE ((([ZipToTerr].[BU]='W') AND (([ZipToTerr].[ZipFrom])<=[zip]) And (([ZipToTerr].[ZipTo])>=[zip])) And (([leadsUS].[terr]) = 1 ));"
Is there a way to link an Access 97 database to a SQL database which would get updated as changes in the Access 97 database take place? In fact, the SQL database will be just a copy of an Access database. If there were changes made to the fields in the Access database these changes should be made to the entries in the SQL database as well.
I finally added WinXP SP2 to my system yesterday (along with a lot of other security updates/patches through Automatic Updates) and now my backups and data exports are failing. Further, when I open my "Enterprise Manager" and try to export data ("All Tasks-Export-...") using the Import/Export Wizard, it won't let me select the "Export From" database.
Can someome please advise what the equivalent query would be inMicrosoft SQL Server ... I've tried a number of combinations with nosuccess ... Thanks, Ralph Noble (ralph_noble@hotmail.com)================UPDATE INVENTORYINNER JOIN SALES ON (INVENTORY.BAR_CODE = SALES.BAR_CODE)AND (INVENTORY.PRODUCT_NBR = SALES.PRODUCT_NBR)SET INVENTORY.DATE_PURCHASED = "20050127"WHERE (((SALES.SOLD)="20050127"));

I need to find a program that I can change my MS Access databases into SQL databases. My sites on the server are getting to many visitors and access is crashing the server. So I need to find a fast program that can covert a access database into SQL very quickly. I have not found one out there yet so any direction would help. I tried using the upsizing in access and that does not work on my machine so I would like a stand alone program. Thanks for the help
Hello, I need local database for my winforms application . In database will be stored c. 2000 records in 15 tables . Is better use MS Access file or Sql Expres or something esle ? Is working with Sql Expres faster then MS Acess (with c. 2000 records)?
i have an older asp web application (not .net) which connects to an access database and reads tables. the .mdb file resides on the web server, along with the asp page. the access db is going away, and the tables have been re-created in SQL express. I need to figure out how to connect and read the tables from either the existing non dot.net asp application, or a new php application.
I have read the post
FAQ: How to connect to SQL Express from "downlevel clients"(Access 2003, VS 2003, VB 6, etc(basically anything that is not using .Net 2.0 or the new SQL Native Client))some more fundamental questions are: 1) can I upload the the SQL express MDF file to the IIS server, and connect to it as a stand-alone file (like i could with the access mdb file)? *** note: SQL express NOT installed on this server, just the standalone mdf file uploaded) 1)a) if yes, what additional code will i need? i am unsuccessful in using the following connection string set conntemp=server.createobject("adodb.connection") connectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=sonnys_inventory.mdf" conntemp.Open connectionString
1)b) if no - i need to install SQL express on the IIS server. do i then upload the mdf file to the server and "attach" it through the SQL management program and follow directions in the post mentioned above?
How do I move a tab serperated file into a table in SQL express using sql express? I need simple fast way to to this.
I can export all my access file into tab or comma files and then build the new tables and import them. I tried upsizing the table in access but sql express will not accept them at all and I cant find a way around it.
Will SQL Express SP2 automatically come down in the Windows Update Service or will we have to update our users? I seem to remember seeing something somewhere that it will.
Does anyone have a link to an authority or official notice on this?
I just updated MDAC on one of my machines and I'm now having trouble accessing my SQL server. It's a local connection using SQLOLEDB in a VB dll. It was working fine before the update and now I get:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
/cms25/CMS.asp, line 33
Most of the information I can find on this refers to TCP/IP connections but the SQL server is local. My connect function looks like this:
I have a system that has the tables on an SQL Server with the front-end on a Microsoft access database. They are connected via odbc and the tables are linked to the access front-end. The odbc connects to the sql server via a user created for the purpose that only has rights to this database. This user has rights set so that they can access/alter any data in the database.
When my users try to alter data on some of the linked tables they get "The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." This does not happen to every table only on some of them.
This happens even when there is only one user accessing the system. If I log into the enterprise manager I can alter those tables/ records without any problem (as some articles I’ve read say if the problem is connected to a corrupt record its not possible to then alter that record and sql server should give me an error message instead).
I have tired. - Compact and repairing the access front-end. - Deleting the links in the access front-end then re-linking them. - Copying the objects from the access to a new blank access db. - I have tried altering the account the odbc uses to login to the SA account. - I have asked the server admin to do the 'compact and repair' on the s.q.l server, shrink I believe it is, as some articles suggest this could solve the problem. - The admin has also tried this on the transaction files (so he has told me).
None of this has worked.
I'm stuck. I don't have any training on SQL server (nor will I be able to have any as I gather the training budget may be needed to fill some finance holes). If anyone has any idea of the answer to my problem or could point me in a direction that I could try investigating I would be very grateful. I have asked the admin if it’s anything to do with transactions, he has told me he does not know how to see those but he will try to find out if we can. Am I shooting in the dark or does this sound like a transaction/process locking problem? Is there something I should be looking for?
I am trying to update some SQL-linked tables in my Access database by repoiting the existing linked tables to a new datasource. The problem is, when I go to select the machine data source where the table sits, I get an error message saying the MS Jet Database can't find the object. This is because when Access creates the linked table, it replaces the period in the <schema>.<table_name> with an underscore. So when I go to update the links, it is essentially looking for the new table with the wrong file name.
I have about 80 linked tables to update and I haven't been able to figure a work-around. HELP PLEASE!
Hi, i am very new to databases. I use VWD 2005, Sql Server Express 2005 and have a remote database through a host rather than my own server. i have managed to create sql databases fine. Its with Access Databases Im really geting confused: Can i use an access database I have created using VWD and sql server Express 2005? Or would it run just through VWD and the remote ? If i use VWD I dont usually need to use IIS but if the latter of the two options is what I must do then i would manually need to create a virtual folder? Nick
I just downloaded SQL Server Express from online and I'm unable to access it now. I cant make a connection nor can I create a database. Could anyone help me out with this and let me know what I've done incorrectly? Thank you!
