Hi,
I have a base query that will return the ID, StartDate and Code for all IDs. I SELECT only for Codes 5 and 9. For most of the IDs I return a record for both a Code 5 and Code 9. They will have different dates however. How could I select from this base query one record for each ID with the oldest date? The items in yellow are the ones that I would want to return to a report in SSRS. Is there a way to put this data in a temp table and read through it to compare IDs and grab the one with the older date?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHi SQL gurus,
I have a form that depending on the outcome, will either add, update or delete a record.
1) If there IS NO record of "this" and "that" and Request("x") <> "" it will add a new record.
2) If there IS a record for "this" and "that" and Request("x") <> "" it will update column 1,2,3 or 4.
3) If there is a record for "this" and "that" and Request("x") = "" it will delete the record.
My problem is if there is a value in request("1") it works fine, but if there is no value in ("1") and there is a value in 2, 3, or 4 it will delete the record.
If request("1") <> "" OR request("2") <> "" OR request("3") <> "" OR request("4") <> "" Then
sSQL = "SELECT * FROM some_column WHERE this = '" & request("this) & "' and that = '" & request("that) & "'"

Hi All,
I want to delete 5 lakhs records using delete...where statement. It is not deleting as a whole.
It is leaving 9300 records in the table.
Can you suggest me to delete 5 lakhs records in the table.
Thanks,

Hi,
I hope some of you can help me with that
I made an application that insert some data to MS SQL 2005 DB Express Edition. One of columns in my database store text. The content of that field must, beyond the existing text, append the current id to its text string. Practically, it means that if on row nr 15 I store text value "15text", on the next row i will store "16text". I figured out that I can get value of max ID by creating following stored procedure.
USE [tracking_db]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[spMaxId] Script Date: 07/18/2007 09:31:44 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spMaxId]
@maxId integer output
as
SELECT @maxId= MAX(id) FROM FILES_TABLE
Once i get the maxID value i simply concat max id and string like:
string.Concat(max_id.ToString(), file_name);
where "max_id is integer return value from stored procedure and "file_name" is a string to rename like "max_id+file_name"
Two problems occur!!!
Problem nr 1.
Since I use to insert 10 new rows each time, the values from 0-9 are appended to text like "(0-9)text"
Problem nr 2.
If I delete some rows, ID does not get update. It means that after deleting all rows from table, next inserted item gets last existed ID before delting +1. New inserted item should get value 1 since table is empty after deleting all rows from it!!!
Hope some of you has any idea what to do

Is there a quick and dirty way to find the oldest record in a select query? There is a date column of type DateTime.

Hi,
I have a database that stores monthly nameed tables for historical data, but after a time (could be 1,2,3 months or on request) I need to be able to delete the oldest table. The tbale name format is ?????_mm_yyyy. Is there a MIN statement that could work on the create date?
Any T-SQL statements that would help me on my way would be great
Thanka!
Is there a stored proc to tell details of the oldest active transaction ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. Below is what I have for my SQL statements:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SELECT:SELECT People.FirstName, People.LastName, People.FullName, People.PropertyID, People.InviteTypeID, People.RSVP, People.Wheelchair, Property.[House/Day Hab], InviteType.InviteTypeName FROM (InviteType INNER JOIN (Property INNER JOIN People ON Property.PropertyID = People.PropertyID) ON InviteType.InviteTypeID = People.InviteTypeID) WHERE (People.PersonID = ?)UPDATE:UPDATE [People] SET [FirstName] = ?, [LastName] = ?, [FullName] = ?, [PropertyID] = ?, [InviteTypeID] = ?, [RSVP] = ?, [Wheelchair] = ? WHERE [PersonID] = ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The only fields I want to update are in [People]. My WHERE is based on a control that I use to select a person from a drop down list. If I run the test query for the update while setting up my data source the query will update the record in the database. It is when I try to make the update from the gridview that the data is not changed. If anything is not clear please let me know and I will clarify as much as I can. This is my first project using ASP and working with databases so I am completely learning as I go. I took some database courses in college but I have never interacted with them with a web based front end. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance for any time, help, and/or advice you can give.Brian
View 5 Replies View RelatedOk I have a query "SELECT ColumnNames FROM tbl1" let's say the values returned are "age, sex, race".
Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.
I have a database that keeps track of pledges, scheduled reminders, and payments.
A user sets up a pledge and then sets up a schedule for reminders to be sent for each payment of the pledge.
Pledge table - PledgeID,PledgeDate,PledgeAmount,etc...
ScheduledReminders table - ScheduleID,PledgeID,DueDate,ReminderDate,ReminderPrintedDate,ReminderPaidDate
AppliedPayments table - ScheduleID,PaymentID,PaidAmount,PaidDate (Junction table between ScheduledReminders and PledgePayments
PledgePayments table PaymentID,PaymentAmount,PaymentDate
What I need to know is, when a payment is being Inserted I need the payment amount applied to the oldest scheduled reminder record that has not been paid. But if the payment is more than the amount shown in the schedule reminder record, I need the balance to be applied to the next oldest schedule reminder record, etc...
Can anyone offer some good suggestions or examples on how to do this?
Hello all,
I need assistance in finding the oldest CDR record in Cisco Callmanager DB using sql query. The CCM version is 3.3(5).
Any assistance is needed. Thanks.
I may have one or several files in a folder that act as source files.
How do I loop through the folder, picking the oldest dated file according to its 'Date Modifield' attribute.
Do I have to use a Script Task or similar as I can't seem to find a way to do it with normal tasks.
If so, does anyone have example code.
Thanks

i was tasked to created an UPDATE statement for 6 tables , i would like to update 4 columns within the 6 tables , they all contains the same column names. the table gets its information from the source table, however the data that is transferd to the 6 tables are sometimes incorrect , i need to write a UPDATE statement that will automatically correct the data. the Update statement should also contact a where clause
the columns are [No] , [Salesperson Code], [Country Code] and [Country Name]
i was thinking of doing
Update [tablename]
SET [No] =
CASE
WHEN [No] ='AF01' THEN 'Country Code' = 'ZA7' AND 'Country Name' = 'South Africa'
ELSE 'Null'
END
What is the best way to script this
I am attempting to run update statements within a SELECT CASE statement.
Select case x.field
WHEN 'XXX' THEN
UPDATE TABLE1
SET TABLE1.FIELD2 = 1
ELSE
UPDATE TABLE2
SET TABLE2.FIELD1 = 2
END
FROM OuterTable x
I get incorrect syntax near the keyword 'update'.

I'm writing a fairly involved stored procedure. In this Stored Procedure, I have an update statement, followed by a select statement. The results of the select statement should be effected by the previous update statement, but its not. When the stored procedure is finish, the update statement seemed to have worked though, so it is working.
I suspect I need something, like a GO statement, but that doesnt seem to work for a stored procedure. Can anyone offer some assistance?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the following tables in my DB
Employee table - This table has EmployeeID, Name, DOB.
EmployeeDesignation table - 1 Employee can have many designations with each having an effective date. There is no flag to indicate which among multiples is the current entry. You can only figure it out by the newest/oldest EffectiveDate. I want to get the most recent and the oldest for each employee.
EmployeeSalaryHistory table - Structure/Design is similar to EmployeeDesignation table. I want to get the starting salary and current salary for each employee.

I do realize that his could be posted in a few spots but I think the answer is in the SQL.
I have a ASP.NET page, with a SqlDataSource, Text Box and Calendar Controls. I have the textbox and calendar controls eval'ed to the same sql data source DateTime Field. The text box is formatted eval to small time and the calendars eval has no formatting.
ex:
<asp:TextBox ID="START_TIME" Text='<%# Eval("EVENT_START","{0:t}") %>' runat=server Width=200></asp:TextBox>
I want to merge the two controls; one has the date the other has the time when I update the pages data to the SqlDataSource field EVENT_START. I've tried a couple of methods, but I would like some other opinions. As Sql server only supports date and time together I am storing the two together.
I could merge the two together in the code behind on the update button's event handler or merge the two during the update query using parameters.
Not that I could get an illegal date for the calendar control, but I could get garbage from the textfield time. So I still would have to do validation on the text field before the SQL server could do the update.
There's a few ways to go about this, so I was wondering if anyone else has figured out an elegant way to handle it.

I have a reference table that currently has no web front-end. It's a small table(<10 rows) that's not going to change very often (maybe once every few months).
We manually update rows on the table via the GUI table interface in Enterprise Mgr., not in T-SQL.
What I'd like to do is have SQL Server automatically update the "Last_Modified" column with the current timestamp. I can do it on an Insert using the GetDate() function, but if I update a row, this doesn't work.
Is there a function I can use that can auto-populate for both insert and updates?
