Consider the following table
Customer

accountExpiryDate datetime
accountStatus bit
Now, I want to update the accountStatus to False as soon as the
current date becomes accountExpiryDate.
I think it can be done using "SQL Agent" but my webhost doesnt provide
me access to that. I have access only to the Query Analyzer.

My table has more columns than this but I will just use the ones here tht are important.
I have two columns in a table these are "ExpiryDate" and "Archived".
When the row is created the "Archived" field will be null but the user will have entered a expiry date. When this date is reached I would like the "Archived" data to change to "1". Is this possible? Would I have to do it through some kind of script or can I set the database to do this automatically?

Hi, i'm trying to calculate on the expiry date for product which include the start date and end date.
the product can't b displayed if the start date haven't reached the date, besides, it oso can't b displayed if it has expired.
the storedprocedure tat i've written is:

Disable logins on access expiry date(Not windows password expiry). we grant access to users on databases only for 60 days. So access is only valid for 60 days. Then the user should again request access to the database going thru security clearance. Thn the DBA's enable the login. Maintaining all these logins of users manually is causing more confusion.
As we know, we dont have any inbuilt functionality to automatically disable logins in SQL Server.

I have a site and there is a ` current features` on the index which shows our newest pictures for movies. I use dreamweaver, so When you insert record a "picture", it takes place on the table, but when you insert another one, it doesn't replace the current one.

The function work fine except the part whent install_date field is empty then I have the following message:
System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "" to type 'Date' is not valid.
Ii would like to use the same update function to make an updates even when date field is empty.

But I am trying to develop a simple asset database for work, as we have nothing in place. I started out with Access, and decided to move to SQL express for many reasons.
What I have now is that I imported my data from my access 97 database to Excel, only my AssetTable did not import dates, I assume because Access and Sql Express handle dates differently... so a the time I just ignored that column.
Is it possible to insert the dates into the now populated SQL Express database AssetTbl where the AssetID's match? Here is what I have.
Sql Express Database Name: BAMS
Table Name: AssetTbl
fields: AssetID, SerialNum ...(many other fields)... DateAcq <- currently Null
Excel file: AssetDateAcq.xls
fields: AssetID, DateAcq (in format 07/12/2007)
To me it sounds like I need to do a short script/program to loop through the file read an AssetID from the excel file, and the DateAqcuired and then have it do an update on the DateAcq field, but it has been so long since I've done any work with SQL that I am finding there is a lot of "Dust" to blow off, and I don't know if I'm heading down the right track... or completely off course.

I have a database design question. I want to store a status in a table. In the ASP.NET interface for the user this status will be adapted to the language of the user.
This is how it would look like:
StatusID 1 = "yes" for English, "oui" for French, "ja" for DutchStatusID 2 = "no" for English, "non" for French, "neen" for DutchStatusID 3 = "error" for English, "erreur" for French, "fout" for Dutch
I don't want to do the translation in ASP.NET and it should be done in one query.
How would it look like in the database design.

Within the sysusers table there is a field named status... All the users has this field set to 2. However there is a particular user and the status for this user is set to 14. Does anyone knows what this means... i.e. why the status field is not set to 2 as it is for the other users?

I am trying get the status field from the list of jobs in management. I have a activex script that queries system tables to find out if a job has failed and sends the report via e-mail.
Currently I use this query to get the names of jobs failed...

We are trying to test for a field in our 'setup' table and no matter what we do it's has a personality of its own. It's the wackiest thing. The field has two steps in this update script - first we are checking to make sure the field 'set_fsm' is still in the table, if so then we are blanking out the field by updating the value to a pair of ' '. Next, after the field now has just a blank value we are going to change the data type from char(10) to a bit field. However, when we try to check the code the first time it works but every other time the update script runs it doesn't work. The code below are two approaches that we have tried with our general update tools that is run on each version / product release we have. Assistance is greatly appreciated.
The record doesn€™t exit yet it still falls into the BEGIN.

A stored procedure named remove_books, which remove books if the conditions are true.
If stored procedure is executed. That means, it removes the bookNumbers from table2 if the conditions are true. Lets say it removes 234 from table2

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong place here. I am not a programmer by profession but just muddle through building some reports for my job. The report I am working on at the moment is the most complicated one I have worked on so far. I am working with MS Query (SQL) and trying to limit the rows returned with the most recent date. I have searched online for the answer to this but just cannot seem to get it to work.
There can be more than one Production Name per Manuscript Number. Each Production Name has a Production Task Assignment Start Date. I want to display one row per record with the latest (most recent) Production Task Assignment Start Date. I have been trying to use the MAX functionality (which I have seen listed online) but just cannot get it work. Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated!

I have a design question that I was hoping you all can help with.
When I normally design a table I always make sure to include a status field. This way I can "delete" a record without actually having to delete it, just update the record to a status which signifies deleted. This ensures my users have an undelete capability as well as safesguarding against the "mad clickers" which click right through the "You are deleting this record..." alerts.
I have been recently adding tables which have temporary records and are meant to expire at a certain date. I have designed these tables to have an expiration date field AND a status field.
My question is this: What is the normal convention relating to these types of records/tables? Should queries using these types of tables query them using the status AND the expiration date? Should you create a job that updates the records status based on the expiration date being passed. Should you use a view that only displays current records based on expiration date?
I just want to make sure Im following standard practice as I design these types of tables.

I have a scenario to fetch records for each ID on 2 conditions. There are 2 types of Product type for each ID. PFE and PRI. I need only latest active PFE and at the same time all the latest PRI should be closed. (meaning, only PFE should be in Active status currently)
1.) Latest Product type PFE should be A (active) status for the particular ID
2.) At the same time ALL the latest PRI should be C(closed) status for the same ID
I have give example with 3 scenarios and desired output
1.) For ID 101, Latest PFE is active and all latest PRI is closed ----> Should come in result
2.)Â For ID 102, Latest PFE is Closed and all latest PRI is closed ---->Should NOT come in result
I need to pass in null/blank value in the date field or declare the field as string and convert date back to string.
I tried the 2nd option but I am having trouble converting the two digits of the recordset (rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2))) into a four digit yr. But it will only the yr in two digits.

I embedded a SQL query in excel that gets some datetime fields like "TASK_FINISH_DATE"Â .
How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.
I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.
What options do I have that will work?

I am trying to populate a field in a SQL table based on the valuesreturned from using substring on a text field.Example:Field Name = RecNumField Value = 024071023The 7th and 8th character of this number is the year. I am able toget those digits by saying substring(recnum,7,2) and I get '02'. Nowwhat I need to do is determine if this is >= 50 then concatenate a'19' to the front of it or if it is less that '50' concatenate a '20'.This particular example should return '2002'. The same would apply for any UPDATE where DateModified is not specified or explicitly set to NULL. I would want to change it so that DateModified is not null on any UPDATE.

I'm trying to extract data from my SQL server & everything in the script I've got is working (extracting correct data) except for one field - which is for the most part it's off by +2 days (on a few occasions - I see it off by just +1 day or even +3, but it's usually the +2 days).
I'm told that it's due to the conversion formula - but - since SQL is not my native language, I'm at a bit of a loss.
The DB table has the date field stored as a type: CHAR (as opposed to 'DATE')
Can anyone out there help?

A date field in a report returns the date value as:
2015-07-01 13:30:27.000
Is there any way I can script this to appear as:
01 July 2015 (or 01-07-2015 or 01/07/2015)Â - basically to cut out the hours, minutes and seconds?
The best I have managed is: CONVERT (varchar(17),DATE,113) AS Date1 but this still leaves me with:

where Idx field is a uniqueidentifier type and EmailDT is datetime type. I found that when this query calling by a VB app. then it have error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Syntax error or access violation" and i have tried again in Query Analyzer, same error also occur, the MS SQL server is version 7.
