Hi - I know my way around VS but I am just exploring "advanced" SQL Server 2005 and have run into a challenge which I think a trigger could solve, but I am not sure and also don't know how to set that up. So any help or links to tutorials are highly appreciated. Here is the challenge: I have a table with a number of fields, among them RequestID (bigint) and Booktime (datetime). What I would like to happen is whenever someone writes a value different from NULL into RequestID, Booktime gets set to the current timestamp. When RequestID gets set to NULL, Booktime gets set to NULL. Is there a way to do this with a trigger (or an otherwise elegant way)? Thanks in advance for ANY help or ideas. Oliver
I'm tracking sales reps and the companies they represent. I have 2 tables. A header table that has the SalesRep (a key field) the name, phone, address, etc.A line file that will have the sales rep multiple times, each line having a vendor they represent.
SalesRepHeader table: SalesRep name phone VendorList Bob Bob_Smith 111-222-3333 John John_Young 123-456-56789 Mary Mary_Kerns 567-876-98765
[code]...
Whenever the SalesRepLine file is added to or updated I want the header file field VendorList to be updated with a concat of the vendors for this sales rep so the SalesRepHeader file would look like this.
SalesRep name phone VendorList Bob Bob_Smith 111-222-3333 Samsung, Kenwood, JVC John John_Young 123-456-56789 Apple, HP
Dear Experts,I'm an Oracle guy, who is being given more SQL Server assignmentslately.I've been looking for things on the web about this, but I can'tanything so far.In Oracle, I you can create a trigger on a table that -only- fires ifcertain fields are updated.create or replace trigger trg_some_triggerBEFORE insertOF some_field1, some_field2on tbl_some_tablefor each row....Is this also possible in SQL Server? What is the syntax please? Thanks a lot!
I want to create a trigger that, when a field is updated or a record is inserted, counts the number of words in "field1", inserting this numeric value into another field in the same table. What would be the most efficient, fastest method for doing this?
Hi guys, I need to get a column with the sum of the field "SUF" from table "JurnalTransMoves_1" when that field ("SUF") is ordered by the field "REFERENCE" from table "Stock", and Show the value only once.
The desired result should by something like:
Stock.REFERENCE JurnalTransMoves.SUF SUM(JurnalTransMoves.SUF) Group By Stock.REFERENCE
5752 10 60
5752 20
5752 30
5753 400 3000
5753 500
5753 600
5753 700
5753 800
5754 7 15
5754 8
Is there any chance to do that? Thanks in advance, Aldo.

Hi all, I have a problem about a query to update a table
UPDATE Email SET EmailDT='31 Mar 2004' WHERE Idx={BDF51DBD-9E4F-4990-A751-5B25D071E288}
where Idx field is a uniqueidentifier type and EmailDT is datetime type. I found that when this query calling by a VB app. then it have error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Syntax error or access violation" and i have tried again in Query Analyzer, same error also occur, the MS SQL server is version 7. Please help. thanks.
Not a SQL guy but can do enough to be dangerous :)Trying to update a record. We have records that have a field with datasurrounded by some comment text such as *** Previous Public Solution*** Start and *** Previous Public Solution *** End . What I am tryingto do is write a SQL statement that will:Check that field C100 = TICKET0001 (to test with one record beforerunning on whole db)Check that field C101 is = ClosedCheck that field C102 is nullCopy field C103 data to field C102 and strip out any words such as ***Previous Public Solution *** Start and *** Previous Public Solution*** endThanks for any help!Kevin
I'm using this query to update the top 1 row: Set rowcount 1 Update MyTable set Status = 1, sdi=999 where Status=2 set rowcount 0
The key field on the table is not an identity field.
Is there a way to get that KEY field's data (for the row that was updated)?
I tried this just to see what would happen and it returns null: Set rowcount 1 Update MyTable set Status = 1, sdi=999 where Status=2 select @@IDENTITY set rowcount 0
I have this stored procedure that loops through a table and updates acouple of fields. For some reason one of the fields is not beingupdated. If I run the same code from query analyzer, it works fine.Let me know if anyone can figure out why @lastscandate would ever beNULL. If it is null it should be equal to @maildate. The senerio thatseems to fail is when no records are returned from the select statementto fill in @lastscandate. This should then active the next ifstatement and set the @lastscandate equal to the @maildate. MailDateis always filled in in the database and LastScanDate will be NULL.Thanks for your help.DECLARE c1 CURSOR LOCAL FORSELECT m.id, m.acctno, m.ordid, m.cycle FROM master m WITH (nolock)WHERE m.printstatus IN ('ST', 'ML') AND (m.batchid IS NULL OR m.batchid= 0) AND (m.maildate ='' OR m.maildate IS NULL)AND NOT EXISTS(SELECT * FROM packagemaster p WITH (nolock)WHERE m.acctno = p.acctno AND m.ordid = p.ordid AND m.cycle = p.cycleAND p.status NOT IN ('BM', 'PM'))OPEN c1FETCH FROM c1 INTO @mid, @acctno, @ordid, @cycleWHILE @@fetch_status = 0BEGIN--Get MailDate from Manifest - if NULL then use GetDateset @maildate = NULLSELECT @maildate = MAX(whenmailed) FROM manifest WITH (nolock)WHERE acctno = @acctno AND ordid = @ordid AND cycle = @cycleif @maildate is NULLset @maildate = getdate()--Get Last Scan Date from Transactions - if NULL then use MailDateset @lastscandate = NULLselect @lastscandate=max(actiondate) from transactions whereacctno=@acctno and ordid=@ordid and cycle=@cycle and actionid=303if @lastscandate is NULLset @lastscandate = @maildateBEGIN TRANSACTIONUPDATE master SET printstatus = 'ML', maildate = @maildate,lastscandate=@lastscandateWHERE id = @midINSERT INTO transactions (initials, actionid, machinelogin, acctno, ordid, cycle, program) VALUES ('RLT', 55, 'Mars', @acctno, @ordid,@cycle, 'Update Mail Dates')COMMIT TRANSACTIONFETCH NEXT FROM c1 INTO @mid, @acctno, @ordid, @cycleENDCLOSE c1
I am creating update trigger(After) on a table.I want to catch an updated row and insert the values of this row into a new table. How can i catch this row while creating a trigger after update.
I want to update several columns in different tables whenever an update is happend on specific table. I have a trigger for that which update all the relevant places when it fires.
I want to do this update only if certains columns were changed, otherwise - do anything, to reduce performance.
How Can I know which columns were updated inside the trigger? The tables has many columns and only if 2 of them were changed then I need to update other tables.
Im using a trigger to check updates on particular table and execute a email. it works but it doesnt show the right record im looking into one table called SiteInfo. here is my code Im using sql 2005, can someone look at my code or the select statement.
I need to strip out all alpha chars and spaces in a given field and return only the numbers.
I've tried =CInt(Fields!Info.Value) and get an unexplained error. If the data was formatted consitantly I could simply do a RTrim or Right, but the number strings are not the same, some have spaces as in phone numbers (1 800 555 1212) or don't have a leading 1. Most instances are correct for my purpose (8005551212).
Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: Using the Replace function =Replace(Fields!Info.Value, " ","") gets me almost there. Now I should be able to use a Right, 10 function to return my desired value. Is it possible to combine these two funtions together?
hi, please help me, i have a data driven site, i made a field that i call "Status"so this is how it should happens, there are three different gridviews in a single page, gridview1 filter is [status] = ok, gridview2 filter is [status] = fine, gridview3 filter is [status] = complete, so all gridview has its own <asp:hyperLinkField> at first the value of "Status" is ok, so it will appear in the gridview1, so when the user click on the <asp:HyperLinkField> of gridview1 it will go to a new page with a form view, this page has a button that when click will change the value of the status field to "fine", so that it will no longer appear to the gridview1 but it will now appear to gridview2 and same with the next <asp:HyperLinkField> click until it appears to the final gridview. so my question is how can i make the button that is capable of changing (update) the value my database field (status) to a specific value, that is not visible to the user thru codebehind or plain asp.net codes. please help me, if you need more info just reply.ThanksSALAMAT PO!
I've a select SELECT Field1, Field2, Field3 FROM Tablethe problem is that I can have filled Field1 OR Field2 ... I would like to create a new column in the result for see only the filled field if Field1 is = null or = ' ' I want to see Field2 if Field2 is = null or = ' ' I want to see Field1
I am attempting to combine to queries that I created and am not having success. I need to get a count on a field for a specific value and have to do this by gender and by an age range. So here is the query I came up with. I don't get any errors produced but I also don't get any results.
$query = "SELECT p1.sex, age_group, COUNT(CASE WHEN p4.q1 = 'Yes' THEN p4.q1 END) AS heart_attack FROM (select p1.sex,". " CASE WHEN datediff(year, dateadd(day, -datepart(dayofyear, GetDate()), p1.birthday) , dateadd(day, -datepart(dayofyear, GetDate()), GetDate())) BETWEEN 11 AND 20 THEN '11-20'". " WHEN datediff(year, dateadd(day, -datepart(dayofyear, GetDate()), p1.birthday) , dateadd(day, -datepart(dayofyear, GetDate()), GetDate()))
I need to check if the latest record in a table for the current client, based on EFFECTIVE_DATE, has a value of 'Y' in the STATUS field. Sample records for client #19:
I wrote the following and it works, but it may be causing 'Insufficient Disk Space' error from the database. Is there any way to write this query without temp table?
I have a table where I want to prevent user from deleting or setting a flag on a field to "y" with a database trigger (sql 2000). I understand the trigger for just one (stopping the delete, or stopping the field being changed to "y"). Should I have 2 seperate triggers or would there be a way to handle both.
I'm sure there's a way to do this, but I can't figure it out. I want to see if a field has a semi-colon in it and if it does display one thing, if not display another. But it doesn't just have a semicolon. It's a list of names, and if there is more than one name there will be a semi-colon between them.
Dear All,Suppose in the program a record is added to a table whoseprimary key is a identity field. If I really want to get the lastestvalue for that field after the insertion, is it the best way to useIDENT_CURRENT() to obtain this value? Thanks for your kind attentionYours faithfully,Benny
Goal is to get the data after the 2nd ; until the next ; starts. Ideal would be to catch everything between the 2nd ; en 3rd ; (number should be 10 characters).
If I try to select this data just using charindex it only goes until it finds the first ; (of course), what’s the best approach in this?
I have a table of "applicants" with unique applicant id and another table "reviews" with reviews which has unique id and Emplid and contains general program name like Math and then may contain 3 addition rows for specific program like Calculus, algebra, geometry etc.
There may or may not be a record for each applicant id in table reviews or there can be 1 or more than one record in reviews based on level of review( General or Specific).
All the general reviews has “Math” as Program_code but if there are more reviews, they can have Program_code like “Cal” , “Abr”, “Geo”
I want to join the tables so I can get all the records from both the tables where Program_code in reviews table is “Math” only.
That is I want to join the table and get all the records from reviews table where the program_code is “Math” only How can I do that?
I'm trying to find a specific string (a name) and replace it with another inside of a VARCHAR(7000) field. Unfortunately, there are names like Ted and Ken that I'm trying to replace. I would like to leave words like Broken, admitted, etc... intact.
UPDATEtbl SETBody = LEFT(REPLACE(tbl.Body, pm.OldFirstName, p.FirstName), 7000) FROM Table tbl JOIN Person p ON p.PersonID = tbl.PersonID JOIN PersonMap pm ON pm.PersonID = p.PersonID AND LEN(pm.OldFirstName) > 2 WHEREtbl.Body LIKE '%[^a-z]'+pm.OldFirstName+'[., ]%
'The problem I'm running into is that the '[, ]%' in the LIKE excludes any record that ends with the FirstName because it is requiring either a space, comma or period after the name. Is there some way to add an empty string to the list of acceptable characters as that would cover any scenario in the data? I would prefer not to add all characters except space, comma and period, but I guess I could do that.
If I have a table with 1 or more Nullable fields and I want to make sure that when an INSERT or UPDATE occurs and one or more of these fields are left to NULL either explicitly or implicitly is there I can set these to non-null values without interfering with the INSERT or UPDATE in as far as the other fields in the table?
EXAMPLE:
CREATE TABLE dbo.MYTABLE( ID NUMERIC(18,0) IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, FirstName VARCHAR(50) NULL, LastName VARCHAR(50) NULL,
[Code] ....
If an INSERT looks like any of the following what can I do to change the NULL being assigned to DateAdded to a real date, preferable the value of GetDate() at the time of the insert? I've heard of INSTEAD of Triggers but I'm not trying tto over rise the entire INSERT or update just the on (maybe 2) fields that are being left as null or explicitly set to null. The same would apply for any UPDATE where DateModified is not specified or explicitly set to NULL. I would want to change it so that DateModified is not null on any UPDATE.
INSERT INTO dbo.MYTABLE( FirstName, LastName, DateAdded) VALUES('John','Smith',NULL)
INSERT INTO dbo.MYTABLE( FirstName, LastName) VALUES('John','Smith')
INSERT INTO dbo.MYTABLE( FirstName, LastName, DateAdded) SELECT FirstName, LastName, NULL FROM MYOTHERTABLE
