Can someone help me. I need to update a page on my site when the data in a database table is changed (by someone else).
I would like to poll the database every 5 secs or so to see if it has changed. I am using asp.net v1.1.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello I have a project that uses a large number of MS Data access pages created in Access 2003 and runs on MS SQL2005.
When I am on lets say my client, (first page in a series) data access page and I have completed the fields in the (DAP), I am directing my users to the next step of the registration process by means of a hyperlink to another Data access page in the same web but in a linked or sometimes different table.
I need to pass data entered /created on the first page to the next page and populate the next page with some data from the first page / table. (like staying on the client name and ID when i go to the next page)
I also need the first data access page to open and display a blank or new record. Not an existing record. I will also be looking to creata a drop down box as a record selector.
Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
I am some what new to data access pages so a walk through would be nice but anything you got is welcome. Thanks Peter€¦

I want your help to know the best way to cache the data of a dropdownbox returned by a SQL Query.(SELECT FIELD FROM DBO.TABLE)
This data returned by database is used in more than one dropdown on multiple pages. I want to cache only the dropdown control, not the entire page. Which is the best way to do it? The data isn't refreshed often, probably once per month.

Can I roll back certain query(insert/update) execution in one page if query (insert/update) in other page execution fails in asp.net.( I am using sqlserver 2000 as back end)
scenario
In a webpage1, I have insert query into master table and Page2 I have insert query to store data in sub table.
I need to rollback the insert command execution for sub table ,if insert command to master table in web page1 is failed. (Query in webpage2 executes first, then only the query in webpage1) Can I use System. Transaction to solve this? Thanks in advance
Hi, this is my first week really trying to learn ASP.net (i'm currently working with 2.0).I have a page, that I am trying to set up that will allow the user to input data, now i'm sure that passing data from 1 webpage to 1 table in a SQL database is pretty streightforward, but how do you plan it out when you know that your web page is going to insert multiplte inserts into multiple tables, with the main table PK referencing all?Any ideas? Even just a starting point so I can get going with this? If I can help anymore, please let me know.

Hi - I am pretty new to Reporting Services. I need to create a report where a single result row from the Select Statement populates an entire page of data. The regular grid or Matrix reports don't fit this need. Is there a simple way to do this?

I have an original database that I want to copy once to another database. Then I want to update the data weekly with the data of the original database. I don€™t change any tables or columns in that part of the database. Just some tables more in the €˜new€™ database (than the tables from the original database) with some references to the tables that have to be updated weekly.
How can I do this? (if you know what I mean... it's a sort of a datawarehouse where different sources come together.. that part that represents the original database is just a part of the datawarehouse. That part is exactly the same structure as the original database.)

I was hoping I could get this to work, so far I can access all the data from the database, but I also want to update it. I placed a button, updateBttn_Click event to update the database.It's not updating though and I am not gettting any errors. I downloaded the VB Lesson 9 Visual Basic Project from Microsoft Learning Resources. With out making any changes to the project I compiled and ran it, making changes to the data and saving the changes. Every thing look great until you run it a second time and see that the changes to the data are all lost.
Observations:
1. Changes made to the data from within Visual Studio (Show Table Data) do take effect.
2. The in-memory data (DataSet) is changed as you move from row to row.
3. The TableAdapter.Update call returns 1, ostensibly indicating the number of rows updated.
4. The data in the database is not changed by the TableAdapter.Update call.

Hola!I'm currently building a site that uses an external database to store all the product details, and an internal database that will act as a cache so that we don't have to keep hitting the external database to retrieve the products every time a customer requests a list.What I need to do is retrieve all these products from External and insert them into Internal if they don't exist - if they do already exist then I have to update Internal with new prices, number in stock etc.I was wondering if there was a way to insert / update these products en-mass without looping through and building a new insert / update query for every product - there could be thousands at a time!Does anyone have any ideas or could you point me in the right direction?I'm thinking that because I need to check if the products exist in a different data store than the original source, I don't have a choice but to loop through them all.Cheers,G.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn my web page(.Net/c#) , I want to update few fields of a database table. The code is fine. The stored procedure through which I perform the execution is fine. I'm confidently saying this is because, if I try to do the update direclty while executing the stored procedure, it gets updated. I'm facing a weird problem while trying to update the fields from my web page. When I make an update and submit it, the first time it shows the updated value in the screen. But if I try to refresh it or redisplay the data ( I guess whenever it makes a trip to the database), the old values gets populated instead of the new values. I tried debugging it, but everything seems to be working fine. I looked up the execution in SQL Profiler, everything seems to be fine. I've no clue what's going on. I've proper permissions to make an update. So there is no permission issue. Could someone tell me how to handle this issue and what might be the possible problem which makes the values not update in the database?

It seems to be a logical problem. When I want to do an update of new data inserted in my aspx-page I can type in and start the updating.After the processing it jumps back on the resultpage but I notice that there was not update be done. What can be the problem.

A problem has come up in designing a Web page to maintain a small reference table in SQL Server 2000 (9 columns, about 25 records).
I tried to design the Web page to allow INSERT and UPDATE operations using a single page that posts back to itself. The page contains a set of empty form fields for a new record, followed by a set of filled-in form field for each row in the table. The form fields for existing records are given a unique name based on the field name concatenated with the primary key value for that row.
If I set up the page to INSERT only, it works properly. But when I add the fields for existing records, the INSERT operation malfunctions. Specifically, anytime a set of existing fields for a particular column is added to the page, the INSERT will no longer work properly for that column. This is true for all fields except the primary key field. It always INSERTs correctly. I tried adding only some columns to the set of existing form fields. In that case, the INSERT operation added the correct values for the fields that were not listed in the existing records section, but failed for the others.
I am using the INSERT INTO syntax for that operation and the recordset .Update syntax for the edits. I tried using the recordset .AddNew/.Update syntax for the insert, but it exhibited the same problems. The column data types contain smallint, bit, nvarchar, and ntext types.
I know that the correct values are being put into the INSERT statement. I also tried renaming the INSERT form fields to be totally different than the names of the existing record fields. But the problem comes back no matter what.
If necessary, I can split the logic so that inserts and updates are handled by different pages. But I would like to make this work if possible. If a reader knows why SQL Server is causing this problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have created one reports but all the records are displaying on one page.find a solution to display the records page by page. I created the same report without group so the records are displaying in page by page.

I have a table which gets updated roughly every 6 seconds with data. I have setup an aspx page with a datagrid to meta tag refresh every 3 seconds.
Because the data sometimes stops for a couple of minutes or even hours, I was thinking of a way to update/refresh the aspx page only when the table data gets entered ( to stop page flickering every 3 seconds).
I was thinking about a stored procedure and using an on update procedure.
Does anyone have any preffered methods or suggestions on the best way to accomplish this task.

I have a store procedure that return the userId if a user exists in my table, return 0 otherwise

I create a function called UpdatePasswordByUserId in my dataset with the above stored procedure that returns a scalar value. When I preview the data from the table adapter in my dataset, it spits out the right value.
But when I call this UpdatepasswordByUserId from an asp.net page, it returns null/blank/0

I am using SQL Server report 2008/2012 (SSRS) and my report viewer contains body content with 3 Row groups.
While printing the report, Â data print with blank space and move to continue data to next page.Â
Departure flight : 70 rows
First Page           : 42 rows printed
Second Page     : 23  rows printed  [ Supposed to be print 28 ,  if the total count of records more than 23 and less than 42 then the page print only 23 records ]
Third Page          : 5 rows printed
Departure flight : 42 Â rows
First Page           : 42  rows printed [Report max. record allowed to print 42 rows so if total record is 42 then print perfectly ]
Departure flight : 26 rows
First Page           : 23 rows printed [Supposed to be print 26, if the total count of records more than 23 and less than 42 then the page print only 23 records ]
Second Page     : 3 rows printed
I have a report where in I have a combination of matrix ,table data regions.
The problem what I am facing is that the data tables don't remain fixed in their position and they tend to move down.
E.g. table 1 and table 2Â are on the same page in design time side by side (right and left)however during the runtime the table1 is pushed down and table2 is at its position .
Now how can I keep them all fixed in their same position. Most of the tables have fixed size rows and some who have high size of rows have been put at the end . What settings we can set?

I have a big problem. If anyone can help.
I want to retrieve the last update time of database. Whenever any update or delete or insert happend to my database i want to store and retrieve that time.
I know one way is that i have to make a table that will store the datetime field and system trigger / trigger that can update this field record whenever any update insert or deletion occur in database.
But i don't know exactly how to do the coding for this?
Is there any other way to do this?
can DBCC help to retrieve this info?
Please advise me how to do this.

I need some comments regarding my Hit Counter that I have created for my sites. Here is my case:
I have developed several websites which I host along with MS SQL server. I created a class that calls a stored procedure to add a count to the database field. The way that I am using it is that every page in the page_load event will call the class indicating which counter to use (i.e. LoginPage, HomePage, ProductPage, etc.). The class in turn will perform the database route to increment the counter. In the Store procedure before incrementing the counter, I first check to see if a record for the current date has been created, if not I add the record with a date stamp with all the different counter values as zero. I then will add 1 to the desired counter for the date.
Is this a good solution?
What I now want to do is create a page that allows the different website owners to access a page with the relevant page counters.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
