I have an update query, and I want to run it as part of a SSIS package.
But to me creating these SSIS packages is looking abit like rocket science.
I know how to create a simple import package and save it as a file. Then right-click and choose edit but then once inside Visual Studio it's all a bit confusing. Is there any tutorials out there that will show me how to edit my simple import package and turn it into an update package.

I have one ini file with following value: I am using this value on DTS package through dynamic property task. My problem is value of [SourceFilepath]

needs to change to

after running the DTS package. How can I do this?

I tried to install "Cumulative update package 2 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2"
Everything went well except for the "SQL Server Database Services" update.
It errored out as it was trying to "Finalize" the update.
Kicker to this whole thing is the database file "temp_MS_AgentSigningCertificate_database.mdf" does not even exist.
I could not see any references to it in the master database.
I checked the registry and I can find a couple of search references for it.
It apparently may have been a database that existed in the server at one time.
I am not sure if I should remove the registry references to the database.

I have found two cumulative update packages available for sql 2005 sp2 - build 3161 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935356) and build 3175 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936305).
The fixes are supposed to be cumulative and include all fixes since the last service pack, but the list of hotfixes in each package is different.
Does build 3175 contain the fixes in build 3161? What about fixes mentioned in build 3175 that have version lowere than 3161 - are they included in build 3161?

My SSIS solution has about hundred packages and time to time I have to edit a package. I understand I could use 'Build' command to compile only updated package, as opposed to Rebuild which recomplies all of the packages.
Nevertheless, in both cases SSIS opens all of the packages in design environment before compilation. My packages are saved in SourceSafe and that process takes quite long and I was wondering if there was any other way to compile only updated package where none of the other packages are opened during Build/Rebuild process? For example we could use dtutil to deploy only updated packages without running Package Installation Wizard.

Be patient with me I am a relative newbie to all this.
Trying to develop a very simple package to update data in daily chunks from one server to another. Now my first step was to obtain the last date in my currenttable which I have a SQL task as my first operation. This brings back the last date for which I have data stored, all fine and dandy. I am then taking the single row result set, datetime data type, and feeding this to a variable.
My problem is my variable does not update, it just sits there and unusually for a variable, doesn't vary at all. Now we have an old hand with SSIS who tells me I'm doing nothing wrong and is equally puzzled. I have tried all datatype combinations and I'm getting nowhere fast.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The server is running:
Windows 2003 R2 SP1
SQL Server 2005 SP1
The server has also been configured as the DNS server.

I am trying to import an XLS to a table in my database. Sounds simple, but the import should be an UPDATE, not an INSERT. In other words, I want to transfer data from the XLS sheet, to specific field in my database.
Let me explain more clearly.
I have an XLS sheet with a manager ID and a employee ID. The table in the database is already populated with all employee ID's but the field manager ID is still empty. Every employee has a different manager.
The import should place the manager ID's in the fields where the employee ID is the same as in the XLS sheet.

I want to make a ssis package that (in order):
- check in table (tbl_orders) if there is any new order made
- if new order is made, update column (time_last_change)
- if this order has geography ID (ID_geography) inserted, insert name of geography.

Is it possible to determine the date a SSIS package was last updated?
Our packages change on a regular basis so being able to determine the date that it was last updated is very useful. I can only find the creation date.

Hi,
using custom tasks. My properties got saved properly the first time the task is added to the workspace. After that, changing values in the CustomUI updates the properties, but the package shows, that It doesn't need to get saved. So my properties don't get changed in the package XML. Moving my custom task on the workspace after changing properties, let the package go into "save me" state and my propertiy values get saved to XML.
So now, Im searching for a method or property I have to call or set to show the package it needs to get saved after closing my CustomUI.
Any hint?

I've been attempting to use a Transform Data Task with a modification lookup but I just keep inserting the rows from the source excel spreadsheet in to the existing destination table without ever modifying the existing data.

Hi when i am using OLDB Command for Update Existing Records the Follwing ERror Code I am getting . Any one pls help me on this one.
1)[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The ProcessInput method on component "OLE DB Command 1" (9282)
failed with error code 0xC0202009. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method.
The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.

Any new record inserted or update in source table SSIS package automatically run, how can we achieve without using service broker.

I am trying to get a DTS package to work w/ an ActiveX box to prompt user for a Date. I am pulling data out of a table into an Excel spreadsheet. The date keyed by user gets passed into parameter ? in query. I have assigned a global variable to package also. The DTS package executes fine but no row appear in the Excel spreadsheet. I'm guessing that the date keyed in input box does not match date from database for some reason. I have tried multiple ways of inputing date in input box and have tried different case/convert statements in query. I know the dates are there because I can hard code in the date as '2005-10-03' and it works. Just can't get it work by feeding in user input into where clause. Does anyone know what I'm missing.
I have a much more complex query but here's the simple one I'm using just to try to get it to work.

I am using the update query listed below in my DetailsView. The issue i am having is the ManagerDecision value which gets populated in a DropDownList in EditTemplate, doesnt seem to update correctly. If I choose 'Approved' from the DropDownList, the result for Status_Type ends up being 'Closed' and not 'Open'. Could someone please Help.

OK, so I have this page where a user can edit multiple fields in a database record. My problem is, that once changes have been made and the user hits the "save" button, everything SEEMS to run just fine (no errors, other things that should happen when the button is clicked happen normally), but nothing is changed. It's almost like the update function (which was created with Microsoft ASP.NET Web Matrix) is working, but it's being fed the old values for the page, rather than the updated ones.
Any ideas on what might be causing this? It's not like anything I've seen before.

Im having a problem when using my update statement on button click. I want the field to be updated to be true whenever the button was clicked but it doesn't seem to like my current syntax. Can someone point me in the right direction please? I know its really simple but when you have just been looking at something for so long you can never see it!!! Thanks
