I use sql 2000. I have an excel table containing some fields with the first field named code, the same table with more fields exits in my sql database, the issue:
I want to UPDATE all of the fields in sql-db that matches the ones in the excel file where code of the record matches, in sql it sorta look like this:
update mytable (Fields 2, 3, 4,... till last one /the first is the code field/)

Problem if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running; the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet, and pasting the new data; new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

Hi all I was wondering if it was possible to update a table based off of information from Excel. here is what I though would have worked.
update MyTest Set acctNumber='111' FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0','Excel 8.0;Database=C:MyFile.xls;HDR=YES', 'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]') where [ProductGroup]='Hal Butts'
with 'Update MyTest' being the table name. It does have the same name as the excel file. Just to rule that out.

.. what I need to do is insert the new, update the existing and leave the remaining unchanged. i.e. :

(the UPD and NEW are added to simplify the example).
Now the default action of an excel source into an ole db destination is an insert into the table - so PK constraints causes failures.
Now, given that the table is referred to by other table, and is in a 24x7 website, how do I change the SSIS package such that, on a row-by-row basis, anUpSert (update or insert) is performed?
The only idea I have so far is:
create temp table
insert excel data into temp table
iterate through the table, using if exists ... update else insert logic <-- this to be done in a SP
Every month a client sends a spreadsheet with data which we use to update matching rows in a table in the database. I want to automate this using a DTS package but am having quite a bit of trouble accomplishing what I think should be trivial task. I've been attempting to use a Transform Data Task with a modification lookup but I just keep inserting the rows from the source excel spreadsheet in to the existing destination table without ever modifying the existing data.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as to a best practice approach.
I am creating a sql table from an excel file that contains closing prices for the SP500. The first column contains all the tickers and the proceeding columns represent different days with the appropriate closing price to match the ticker. Thus, the first column has the header "Ticker" and all subsequent columns have headers in the form "MM/DD/YYYY". When i try to create a sql table from this file, the first column header shows up, but none of the other headers do. What am I doing wrong?
Hi folks. I am having an excel file. I need to import this file to database and update some other tables with data contained in this file. I would like to automate this process as much as possible. Now, I am just using SQL Server Import Wizard to create a table and then I am running an update query. Is there any (more automate) way to do this?
I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.

I hope this is the right forum for my question. I'm developing a website for a Prepaid Calling Cards distributor. Each of the cards they sale have a list of the countries the card is good for. I need to import this data into my countries_rates table. The file they are giving me is an excel file that contain 3 colums (fields) 1- Country-Name 2- Rate 3- Card_$_Price these files contain aproximaly 400 rows so it will be a hasle to have to insert it manually every week. In my web application I need to create a form where the user will select the card from a dropdownlist and then find the excel file to be imported for that card. I would like to know how do I do that with Visual Studio 2005, SLQ 2005 and C# please direct me to some links where I can learn how to do this or please send me some code snips I can see how is done. Everything seems to be ok except for the "Where FMStyle" is giving me a message Invalid Column name on FMStyle. Do I need to qualify FMStyle and if so how.
I have to export about 50 excel files from different tables. Some tables contain leading 0s in the columns. If I use bcp to export to xls file, the leading 0s will be missing. If bcp to csv or txt file, there will be no issue at all. But I have to export to xls file in order to let client update that xls file and reload to tables again.
I have the following code to import .csv file into my table in excel. It's being inserted into a table. dbo.ImportedPromoPricing. Table and the .csv file have 3 fields price, code and selling price.

I have an excel file source, that has a column that is a date column, although the group puts in more that just a date sometimes: example (11/1/2007) or (Sold), the problem is I cant get SSIS to ever see anything but the date, for the cells that have Sold shows me null, or blank when doing a view. I need to export data from a table of SQL server 2000 database, into an Excel 2000 sheet. I tried following query from the sql query analyzer

It gave me following error

The F:ew.xls file is present and it has no additional security applied, hence I think it should be writable.
Please tell me where am I doing wrong.

I'm trying to write an SSIS package that exports a table that has changing column names to an excel file. The column names change due to the fact that the table is created by a pivot daily. the only thing I'm missing is the ability to dynamically map the tables' columns to the excel destination. Is this possible?
I read in another thread that "It is not possible to create packages or new objects within packages using SSIS." I also read in the books online that "The input and the input columns of the Excel destination have no custom properties." To me this means that I cannot programmatically create or remove columns in the excel destination. Please tell me I'm wrong. So, to summarize my research so far. In writing an SSIS package, I cannot programmatically create a new excel destination object and I can't manipulate an existing one. I hope I'm wrong. Can anyone help me? (and please correct any wrong assumptions I may have stated)

Hi,I have an online store, as you can imagine my prices can change once a week. I have loads of products in a products table in a sql 2000 db. I have been updating the price of these products manully witch is very painfull. I would like to know how to take a csv file with just a sku number and price column. And only update the products table with the new price. The products table has loads of columns but i only want to update the price. the product table does not use a sku number as key it uses a productId as the key. Obviously the csv file does not have the productId field. But they both have the sku field so i would like to use that as the lookup key.Could someone please give me some sample code on how to do this? Or point me in the right direction? or know of a product that can do this? I am using Windows XP SP2, with SQL 2000 and i have Visual Studio.Net 2005. This excel file contains several rows (some of them may be blank) and columns (also some may be blank). The file is stored in an image object.The file will be checked (they want to do it manually, because contents is a problem). If they say it is OK, I want to run a program to add a record into an existing table with the request no. (from the first table, where the object is stored) and all the information available from the filled rows (first row is header). I am working on an HR project and I have one final component that I am stuck on.
I have an Excel File that is loaded into a folder every month.
I have built a package that captures the data from the excel file and loads it into a staging table (transforming a few bits of data).
I then combine it with another table in a view.
I have another package that loads that view into a Master table and I have added a Slowly Changing Dimension so that it only updates what has been changed. (it’s a table of all employees, positions, hire dates, term dates etc).
Our HR wants to have this data in a report (with charts and tables) and they wanted it to be in a familiar format. So I made a data connection with Excel loading the data into a series of pivot tables.
I have one final component that i cant seem to figure out. At the end of every year I need to capture a count of all Active Employees and all Termed employees for that year. Just a count.
The data is in one table labeled [EEMaster]. To test the count I have the following.

this returns the HistoricalHC for 2013 as 418.
SELECT COUNT([PersNo]) AS NumbOfTermEE FROM [dbo].[EEMaster] WHERE [ChangeStatus] = 'Current' AND [EmpStatusName] = 'Withdrawn' AND [TermYear] = '2013'
This returns the Number of Termed employees for 2013 as 42.
I have created a table to report from called [dbo.TORateFY] that I have manually entered previous years data into.
I have read what people have posted on this but don't seem to find exactly what i want. I tried the methods from this website like many suggest http://www.sqlis.com/default.aspx?311. But all this seems to do insert new records but does not update the existing records.
This is what i want to do. I have an online store that uses an SQL DB with a products table. I have an excel/csv spreadsheet with the same columns as in the sql database. It is much quicker for me to update the spreadsheet than logging in to sql to do it. So i would like to update all the product prices on flat file to the sql table. There will be more updating than adding new rows.
