Updating Database Date Field Results In Date Value Of 01/01/1900

Jun 18, 2007

Brand new to this, so please bear with me.

I'm using the following code fragment to update a datetime field on a SQL Server 2005 database table:

cmd.CommandText = "Update Projects Set EntryDate = " & Convert.ToDateTime(txtEntryDate.Text)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

The result of the update operation is the the database field contains the value "1900-01-01 00:00:00:000".  This probably means that I passed nulls to SQL; however, I see a valid date in the txtEntryDate field on my web form (i.e., "06/18/2007").  I also did a "Response.write" to display the txtEntryDate and it looks Okay.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express.

Updating Date Field

Aug 7, 2005

All other fields are updating ok and I'm not getting an error.I am trying to update a date and time (smalldatetime) using a stored procedure.First, the info to be updated comes from a datagrid.
Dim sDate As DateTime
sDate = CType(e.Item.FindControl("tDate"), TextBox).TextThen, passed to the SQLDal class and then to the stored procedure.....
Public Function updateData(ByVal sDate As DateTime, ByVal sp As String) 'Some items snipped for easier read
Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(sp, conn) 'Where sp is the stored procdure name
command.Parameters.Add("@date", sDate)'And so on.....And then the stored procedure....@num    VARCHAR(256),@date    SMALLDATETIME,@contact    VARCHAR(256),@notes    VARCHAR(8000),@media    VARCHAR(256) ASBEGIN DECLARE @errCode   INT
BEGIN TRAN
  -- UPDATE THE RECORDS  UPDATE dbo.tblData  SET    fldDate = @date, fldContact = @contact, fldNotes = @notes, fldMedia = @media  WHERE fldNum = @num
<sniped>Like I said, all other fields are updated with no problems, but not the date. The date format being passed into the sp is {0:MMM dd, yyyy hh:mm tt} or Aug 05, 2005 04:39 PM Is it the format of the date? Or something else I'm not seeing...Thanks all,Zath

Gridview Date Field Not Updating

Jan 31, 2008

Hi - Once again I've been looking at this forever and not able to see the problem.  Have a grid table everything updates except the training date field.  That get's wiped out each time - no matter if something is in it or not.  Everything else updates correctly.
Here's the code:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="ds1" DataKeyNames="eventID"><Columns><asp:CommandField ButtonType="Button" ShowEditButton="True" ShowDeleteButton="True" /><asp:BoundField DataField="eventID" HeaderText="ID" SortExpression="eventID" ReadOnly="True"><HeaderStyle Font-Bold="True" Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="Small" /><ItemStyle Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="Small" /></asp:BoundField><asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Training Date" SortExpression="trainingDate"><EditItemTemplate><asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("trainingDate", "{0:M/dd/yy}") %>'></asp:TextBox></EditItemTemplate><ItemTemplate><asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("trainingDate", "{0:M/dd/yy}") %>'></asp:Label></ItemTemplate><HeaderStyle Font-Bold="True" Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="Small" /><ItemStyle Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="Small" /></asp:TemplateField>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="ds1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:TrainingClassTrackingConnectionString %>" ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:TrainingClassTrackingConnectionString.ProviderName %>"UpdateCommand="UPDATE [trainingLog] SET  [trainingDate] = @trainingDate WHERE [eventID] = ?" >

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Date Column With 1900-01-01 Value

Dec 23, 2014

I have a date column with 1900-01-01 value, I am trying to get the min(date) without 1900-01-01.My problem here is: there are some records with both 1900-01-01 and real date. How do I get the MIN of the real date without getting 1900-01-01. Below is my query sample.

CASE WHEN MIN(CAST(PROJECTEDSTARTDATE AS DATE)) = '1900-01-01' THEN NULL ELSE MIN(CAST(PROJECTEDSTARTDATE AS DATE)) END as 'ProjectStartDate'

SQL Server Automatically Changing Date 1900-01-01 To 2001-01-01

May 16, 2008

I have a SSIS data flow task that downloads data from an Oracle source which has some real dates and some date values of 0001-01-01 which I am trying to convert to '1900-01-01' using a decode(Date1,'0001-01-01','1900-01-01',Date1). The problem I am having is that when I run the package in Business Intelligence Development Studio on my local machine the date value is stored correctly in the SQL table in a datetime field as 1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM, however when I run the package from the server the field gets saved as 1/1/2001 12:00:00 AM.

I have tried a bunch of ways to work around this issue and the only solution I have found that works it to download into a temp table and then load into the live table. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this issue when I run the package from the server?

Matrix Report, Date: 1900-01-01 Wrong!! Suppose To Be Empty, How?

Aug 10, 2007

Hi
I am making a report in Visual Studio. I€™m making a matrix report. I have made a UNION of 2 tables. One of them has a field called Date and the other one does not. But to make a UNION of these 2 tables so that the results are printed in a Matrix I have to have the same fields€™ aliases at least. So what I did is that in the second table is:
SELECT €˜ €˜ AS €˜Date€™
Right?

Now, in the report the first table gives me the dates in a format:
=Format(Fields!Estimated_Close_Date.Value, "yyyy-MM-dd")

But, the second table is it doesn€™t have a date in that field when I run the report it gives me:
1900-01-01

Something I don€™t want.

So, how do I make it understand that the second tables date field is suppose to be empty?

How Do I Convert A Unix Date/Time Field To A Date When The The SQL DB Stores That Data As Char 11?

Nov 13, 2007

Hi there.
I'm trying to extract data from my SQL server & everything in the script I've got is working (extracting correct data) except for one field - which is for the most part it's off by +2 days (on a few occasions - I see it off by just +1 day or even +3, but it's usually the +2 days).

I'm told that it's due to the conversion formula - but - since SQL is not my native language, I'm at a bit of a loss.

The DB table has the date field stored as a type: CHAR (as opposed to 'DATE')
Can anyone out there help?

Please advise. Thanks.

Best.

Reporting Services :: Formatting A Date Field To Just Show Date Not Minutes?

Is there any way I can script this to appear as:

01 July 2015 (or 01-07-2015 or 01/07/2015)  - basically to cut out the hours, minutes and seconds?

The best I have managed is: CONVERT (varchar(17),DATE,113) AS Date1 but this still leaves me with:

01 July 2015 13:30

SQL Server 2012 :: Script To Specify Date Field To Use For Activity Date

Jun 2, 2014

I'm writing a view to check record counts in a table that has numerous datasets and therefore various "Activity Dates". Is it possible as part of the SQL statement to have a CASE statement for example so that it can identify the field to use as the activity date?

The field to use is being identified using a seperate table so at the moment I have CASE WHEN FieldToUse = '2' THEN MapCol ELSE '[Activity_Date]' END, where FieldToUse = '2' identifies the date field to use and the MapCol data is the field name to be used as the activity date.

Is this even possible?

Transact SQL :: Find Latest Start Date After A Gap In Date Field For Each ID

Apr 23, 2015

My requirement is to get the latest start date after a gap in a month for each id and if there is no gap for that particular id minimum date for that id should be taken….Given below the scenario

ID          StartDate
1            2014-01-01
1            2014-02-01
1            2014-05-01-------After Gap Restarted
1            2014-06-01
1            2014-09-01---------After last gap restarted
1            2014-10-01
1            2014-11-01
2            2014-01-01
2           2014-02-01
2            2014-03-01
2            2014-04-01
2            2014-05-01
2            2014-06-01
2            2014-07-01

For Id 1 the start date after the latest gap is  2014-10-01 and for id=2 there is no gap so i need the minimum date  2014-01-01

My Expected Output
id             Startdate
1             2014-10-01
2             2014-01-01

Display Only The Date Part Of A Date And Time Field?

Mar 16, 2014

I want to display only the date part of a date field which contains both date & time information.

For example I have the value '2013-11-14 00:00:00.000' in my result set, and ideally I would like to show only '2013-11-14'.

I have looked up the datepart() command, however I can't work out how to return all parts of the date, rather than just the year, month, or day.

I have also tried converting it using (year(QHSTDT)*10000+100*month(QHSTDT)+ day(QHSTDT))) but when I convert the dates using this formula, I can get an incorrect number of days when I try to subtract one from the other. What formula can I use to convert my YYYYMMDD field to a format that will allow me to compare number of days between two dates?

What Default Date To Use In Database Datetime Field

Aug 4, 2006

We want to add a default date to our database tables. Looking at other database samples people use all sorts of dates to add as default date e.g. 1/1/1997 or the getdate() function.
Is it good practice to set a default date and what should the default date be????

Problem With Adding A Date Field To A Database When It Is Null

Jun 21, 2005

I am having problems adding a date field to a SQL Server Database from a form in ASP.Net. When I leave the date field blank, it automatically inserts Monday, January 01, 1900. I want it to be null when the expiration date is left blank. Can someone please help me with this? Here's my code for adding information from the table to the database:  '---------------------------------------------         ' name: Button_Click()         '---------------------------------------------        Sub Button_Click( s As Object, e As EventArgs )                        Dim strConnect As String              Dim objConnect As SQLConnection              Dim strInsert As String             Dim cmdInsert As SqlCommand
'Get connection string from Web.Config             strConnect = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("ConnectionString")
             objConnect = New SqlConnection(strConnect)                            strInsert = "Insert DomainName (ClientID, DomainName, Registrar, ExpirationDate ) Values ( @ClientID, @DomainName, @Registrar, @ExpirationDate )"             cmdInsert = New SqlCommand( strInsert, objConnect)             cmdInsert.Parameters.Add( "@ClientID", dropClient.SelectedItem.Value )             cmdInsert.Parameters.Add( "@DomainName", txtDomainName.Text )             cmdInsert.Parameters.Add( "@Registrar", txtRegistrar.Text )             cmdInsert.Parameters.Add( "@ExpirationDate", txtExpirationDate.Text )
objConnect.Open()             cmdINsert.ExecuteNonQuery()             objConnect.Close()                                  'Display the results "page"                  DisplayResults()
        End Sub Here's the code for the form:         <form id="frmDomainNames" method="post" runat="server" onSubmit="return InputIsValid()">         <div align="center">    <table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" width="50%" bgcolor="#330099">     <tr>      <td height="37" colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle" bgcolor="#330099"><font color="white" size="5">Domain Name Information</font></td>      <td>&nbsp;</td>     </tr>              <tr>      <td height="42" align="right" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8"><font face="MS Sans Serif, Arial" size="2" color="#000000"><strong><nobr>          Client's Name:</nobr></strong></font></td>      <td colspan="2" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8">       <p>        <asp:dropdownlist id="dropClient" runat="server" />        </p>      </td>     </tr>    <tr>      <td height="42" align="right" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8"><font face="MS Sans Serif, Arial" size="2" color="#000000"><strong><nobr>          Domain Name:</nobr></strong></font></td>      <td colspan="2" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8">       <p>        <ASP:TextBox id="txtDomainName" runat="server" TextMode="SingleLine" Columns="30" />               </p>      </td>                         <tr>      <td height="42" align="right" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8"><font face="MS Sans Serif, Arial" size="2" color="#000000"><strong><nobr>          Registrar:</nobr></strong></font></td>      <td colspan="2" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8">       <p>        <ASP:TextBox id="txtRegistrar" runat="server" TextMode="SingleLine" Columns="30" />       </p>      </td>     </tr>     <tr>      <td height="42" align="right" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8"><font face="MS Sans Serif, Arial" size="2" color="#000000"><strong><nobr>          Expiration Date:</nobr></strong></font></td>      <td colspan="2" valign="top" bgcolor="#e8e8e8">       <p>        <ASP:TextBox id="txtExpirationDate" runat="server" TextMode="SingleLine" Columns="10" />       </p>      </td>     </tr>

Import Flat Text File String Date To Database Date

Jan 30, 2007

I asked this question below, but the answer was that the conversion will take place automatically, but I can't get that to happen. I have a flat file with an 8 position field that I identify as string (and I also tried date) that is yyyymmdd and it needs to go into the database field that is datetime format. IS there something I am doing wrong with the definition of it, or do I need to add some kind of conversion, and if so, what and how would that be done. I'm a dts Sql2000 expert, but the SSIS thing is driving me crazy. I have a ton of dts' to convert and the migration tool doesn't work because there are a lot of active X scripts in them. thanks for your help. Boston Rose

Date Returned Is Prior To Date In Database

Jan 31, 2007

would someone be able to shed some light as to why the date returned to my windows application does not match the date that is actually stored in the database. the products_soldDate field is assigned 1/1/1900 at the product records creation time and is updated when it's sold.  when the windows application received that data and I check for it I get the following value 12/31/1899 11:00:00 PManyone has a clue as to what is happening here. It worked fine when I hosted it on a MS SQL 2000 database I just recently moved the data over to a SQL 2005 database
