I'm building a DTS package on my development server which I want tomove to my test server. I can save the file and import it, but thereare connections etc that will be named differently. Is there a quick and easy way of changing the names of connections ? Ialso have some CSV files used for import/export (quicker than tablecopy for my needs), but again I will need to change the path. How can I do this without having to check each component ?ThanksRyan
I have problems with executing packages in the SQL Server 2005 and before I go into the details I would like to check, if my workflow is correct.
Can someone explain me the best way to move a package from BIDS to a SQL Server? I would like to store the packages in the SQL Server.
In addition if I login to Integration Services with SQL Server Management Studio I can see in the folder "stored packages" my package but I cannot view the folder "MSDB". Ususally I receive an error message from the named pipe provider, that I could not connect to the server (I am using Windows Authentication and my login is an administrator on the SLQ Server box)
I am trying to move data from 8 different tables that are dependent on each other through foreign key relationship.
Basically they have millions of rows in each table and they have data for the past 5 years. I want to move data for the past 120 days and move it to 8 new tables in the same database. So I created the new tables along with their relationships. Now I need to move in the order (parent table first).
The child table has 50million rows data to move The intermediate tables have 10 mil 10mil 10mil and 40 mil 50mil and 20 mil rows to move The parent table has 10 mil rows to move
if I choose to move this data through an SSIS package what is the best way? Or is there a better way to move this data faster?
I will be doing this move only once. After that I have maintenance purge jobs that will cleanup data on a daily basis.
hi, I have a access database. In this database there are 10 tables and this tables are related to each other. I want to move these tables to another database according to a field in XYZ table (vertical fragmentation).
for example there is name coloumn in the XYZ table and I want to take only joe lines and other tables related to that from database A and move it to database B
I have created a DTS package its owned by me, there is another user who has created another DTS package owned by him, we are both public users to the same database.
Now we both want to look at each others DTS, when we spoke to the DBA he said the only work around was to give us the SA permission which he don't want to.
Is there any work around for this....since we have several packages ..or can we create some global account and then give it some other previlage so as we can view the packages ..
I have a question on dynamically changing DTS Package connection strings. E.g. I created a DTS Package as follows and saved it as a file: Source Server : X Databse : DB1 User : sa Pwd : ****
Destination Server : Y Databse : DB2 User : sa Pwd : *****
Now I want to run this package file with different source & destination i.e.
Source Server : P Databse : DB4 User : sa Pwd : ****
Destination Server : Q Databse : DB5 User : sa Pwd : *****
My question is , how do I change the database connection strings at run time? Is such a execution possible?
HI, I created a dts package using my Windows NT authentication. One of my colleague edited that package last week and when I tried to open it now, it gives me an error message "The system cannot find the file specified". The package still has my NT id as the owner. Could anyone please let me know why is this happening ??? My colleague is still able to edit my package. My NT id and my colleague NT id both are setup as administrators on the sql server. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Can any one tell me how to recover the DTS Package from SQL Server 2000. The package has different versions, when i tried to edit that version i can see only an empty screen. Is there any way that we can get the related physical file ? How can this physical file be used for restoring the package ?
Please tell me Is there any other alternatives to get the DTS Package back.
Hello! I'm trying to execute DTS package using dtsrun utility from MSDOS Prompt and getting error message "Cannot Open user default database '<ID>'.Using master database instead".
hi, I have settup up sql mail and did the following: 1. created an E-mail account and configured Out look by creating a pop3 mail profile. tested it by sending and receiving mail, that is ook 2. I Created one domain account for MSsqlserver and Sql Agent service. both services use same account and start automatically in the control panel-services 3. I used the profile that I created in outlook to test the sql mail but got an error: Error 22030 : A MAPI error ( error number:273) occurred: MapiLogon Ex Failed due to MAPI Error 273: MAPI Logon Failed
I really do not know what went wrong. I followed the steps from bol and still having a problem. Am I missing something.
I do have a valid email account I do have a valid domain account I tested outlook using the email account and it worked. so why sql server does not recognise MAPI.
My next question, How to configure MAPI in Sql server if what I did was wrong.

We have an old machine which holds SQL server 2000 database. We need to migrate a whole database to a new machine which has SQL server 2005.
When we tried to move whole database using Import and Export Wizard, only tables can be selected to import/export. However we want to import/export the whole database, including tables, stored procedure, view, etc. Which tool should we use?

Can anyone refer me to good 'recipes' or sources of information on thistopic??I have Visual Studio Tools for Office, which installs SS 2005 Expresslocally to my XP box, and I want to develop in SS 2005, then copy thetables or queries or reports etc. to a SS 2005 Standard server.Thank you, Tom
We have a SQL Server 2000 ent edition sp4 with 3 small databases and one 4 GB database which is REPLICATED The Server has been bouncing like a yoyo today because of a disk controller problem and I am preparing to move the Instance to a whole new server this afternoon. The new Server will have the same IP and name as the original server.
Any suggestions for the easiest or most seamless way to make this happen? preferably using Backup and Restore since they plan on taking the old server down completely and then building a new server with the same name and IP ... any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have several jobs (most scripted in activeX) that I need to move to a different server. Is there an easy way to "copy and paste" them from one server to the other? (SQL7 to SQL2k)
I have a db that I created on my local machine and need to move it to our server. The problem is that I created it with sql server 2005 express and our server is a sql server 2000 so restore and attach don't work. I don't have management studio (just express) so I don't know what I need to do to move it. Any help is appreciated.
I moved the web app. I'm working on to another machine. Everything seemed to go well. Installed Reporting Services and configuration worked well with green ticks everywhere and I'm running reports in Report manager and in Visual Studio. However running off the web app. gives the message:
"The attempt to connect to Report Server failed" - there's also a ref. to an HTTP 404 error.
The install might not have gone as well as I thought because there was a "ReportServer" website created in IIS at same level as default. (Also Reports and ReportServer as virtual directories under Default website). The rogue website is 'stopped' at present. Would be grateful for any help with this. One thing is that I'm now behind a proxy so I'm using localhost:8080
Our company develop software based on SQL7 . ”DBA” position is really a developing (creation of triggers, stored procedure …) Could you give an advice from you personal experience what task should I practice in order to be ready for real DBA job and how YOU moved from developer to DBA
I am fairly new to SQL Server 7. I have a SQL server database on one machine (box A). Now I installed a new box with SQL server on it (box B). How do I move the database from box A to box B?
What are the steps involved? What is the easiest way to do it? What files need to be copied over?
Hi, all. I have more than 100 DTS packages on one server which need to be migrated to another new server. What's the easiest way to do it? I can do it by opening each package then using save as to save into another server. But I have more than 100, so it is kind of tedious to do it.
Is there a way like export those packages then import them? Or script them then run it? If yes, Let me know how.
We are currently moving our environment. I was told that we need to copy all the stuff over. More specifically, we want to move everything except the data, as our data is dynamic and will fill up in a few days by itself.
What is the best way to move everything over from one server instance to another?
My current approach is the following:
1. Create the file groups we have on our current server on the new server 2. Script out all databases with stored procedures, functions, views, priviliges, indexes ... 3. Script out all the jobs 4. Script out all the dts packages (or rather save each in a file) 5. Load all scripts into the new sql server 6. Re-create user accounts (can these be scripted out also and then loaded?)
Am I missing something or is there a wiser alternative?
What is the best and safest way to move all databases(almost 500GB total) from our existing server(2000) to the new server(2005).and What about the jobs and SSIS(DTS) Packages. Thanks
I have worked mostly in oracle, and new to sql server. I am trying to move a very small table from oracle database to sql server database. I see a different methods I can do this, I guess DTS etc. I tried import wizard in SSMS, I was not succesful in that. Can any expert suggest me any possible ways of doing this the best way? Thank you very much!
