I happen to have a rather troubling development error which has occurred for the second time this week:
After having designed and built a voluminous (over 200 controls) SSIS Package
using Visual Studio 2005 & the SQL server 2005 BI development environment, I am getting an error message which
states that:
"Nonfatal errors occurred while saving the package:
Error at Load ORD_Status Right [Load ORD_Status Right (PipelineXml)]: Unable to instantiate XML DOM document, please verify that MSXML binaries are properly installed and registered.
Error at Load ORD_Status Right [Load ORD_Status Right (PipelineXml)]: Unable to save to XML."
This is very dissappointing & alarming considering that Microsoft and the rest of the planet seems to think that this is such a powerful ETL tool. It will not save. It will not run. My faith in this product is almost done.
Although I am connected to a workplace network, I am running this as a project on my hard drive (stand alone).Since the program logic repeats (due to conditional branching) many of the components are copied and pasted, however, no errors or size warnings are displayed until runtime. The package worked fine and even wrote records until I got beyond approx.140 components. DOES SSIS fail after a certain size limit or a certain number of controls ?
This is acritical limitation which may render this product useless without some solution or work around. Oracle (on a unix box) seems to have no such impractical limit. Someone please offer some soultion.
Hi, I am new to SSIS. I have been searching for some examples to use Expression Builder in SSIS to use derived columns transformation...I basically want to perform tasks like - 1. Add a new column to my flat file data source (also, next Excel datasource) on the run (which simply contains a constant string ex: "TXT") and add this column as the 2nd column before loading into destination. (SQL Server DB table) 2. Rearrange my datasource columns according to my destination columns. 3. Not include some unwanted columns existing in the datasource while loading into destination.
How can I achieve these? Plz help.
Is there a link where I can get examples online?? I went through the SSIS tutorials (5 lessons) included with the product, it gives me a fair idea now...but would really appreciate specific suggestions for my requirements.
I have a package that has a file connection. We have set the connection in the package for development - we also have the connection in a config file.
We are calling the package from SQL Jobs. In the step we call the package in, we try to set the value for the connection in the Data Source tab. However, the package does NOT use the value we enter.
I then removed the connection from the config file - then the package uses what the connection was set to in development. It still will not use what we enter in SQL Jobs.
Furthermore, when we run the package we lose the values that we put in the DataSource tab!!!!
My work around has been to change the SQL Job type from an INtegration services package to a straight command line - this works.
The question is - can you set a package's connection strings from SQL Jobs using the SSIS Job Type ???
I have developed ETL for our datawarehouse in SSIS 2005. It has to be moved to production which our team do not have access to and is contolled by another department. While deploying in production OLEDB Connection manager needs to be edited and tied to production servers. Production server team says they won't edit and neither allow me to touch production servers. They want me to create a script which will change the connections. I have no idea what to do. Please help.
I want to use "Oracle Data Provider for .Net" driver to get Oracle 10g data in SQL Server 2005 environment. I am getting this error message when try to import oracle tables in sql server.
"Operation could not be completed. The server name is not specified (DTS wizard)."
Any help will be very highly appreciated.
Also I want recomemndation on which driver should I use for getting huge Oracle data into SQL server environment?
Hi My PM and me are on a discussion. He wants SSIS to simply upload the source excel files in staging and do rest of the ETL in SQl server stored procedure which I feel is primitive. I have suggested him to use SSIS for whole ETL and not Stored procedure( method which indistry has discarded) He sayd Stored procedure are more efficient than SSIS.
I have a table A with a KEY column and SSN column. KEY = 12 digits ( first 3 digits are Department Id , and last 9 digits are SSN)
I have a table B with SSN column only.
both KEY and SSN columns are Primary keys so duplicate entries must be Avoided.
Table A is intended to be popluated weekly from TXT file (SSIS package RUN). I want to achieve somethign like this..!
P-Code sample:
for each Row in TXT file if TXTfile.KEY = TableA.KEY then skip and Read/Go to next Row in TXT file else INSERT TXTfile.KEY into TABLEA.KEY SSN_Var = EXTRACT the SSN part (SSNpart.READ) if SSN_VAR.Exists In TableB.AnyRow then skip else Insert into TableB End If. End If End For Loop.
----------------------------------------------------------------- Using SSIS controls, what will be best flow and logic to achieve this.....? any sample scripting code ????
I am not able to open the package in BIDS. When I open the package I am seeing only the XML. Below I had given what I have done.
First I have installed Visual studio 2008 Professional and next I installed SQL Server 2005 with Integration services, database services, workflow components.
I am able to see the BIDS in Start --> All Programes --> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 --> "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio"
This morning I can not connect to our SQL Server 7.0 whatever from client or server. The error message which I list below:

We use windows NT authentication. We did not do any change on NT. The SQL Server daily schedule job usally stoped at 10:00AM, but today from the Window NT Task Manager, we can see that the SQL Server is still running untill now.
hi, I have settup up sql mail and did the following: 1. created an E-mail account and configured Out look by creating a pop3 mail profile. tested it by sending and receiving mail, that is ook 2. I Created one domain account for MSsqlserver and Sql Agent service. both services use same account and start automatically in the control panel-services 3. I used the profile that I created in outlook to test the sql mail but got an error: Error 22030 : A MAPI error ( error number:273) occurred: MapiLogon Ex Failed due to MAPI Error 273: MAPI Logon Failed
I really do not know what went wrong. I followed the steps from bol and still having a problem. Am I missing something.
I do have a valid email account I do have a valid domain account I tested outlook using the email account and it worked. so why sql server does not recognise MAPI.
My next question, How to configure MAPI in Sql server if what I did was wrong.
Hi, I have 2 windows 2000 server in cluster with sql server 2000 enterprise edition installed. I have activated the Server-Requested Encryption by using the sql server network utility (Force Protocol Encryption). After this, I have stoped sql server service. But I can't start it at this moment. The error is: 19015: The encrypton is required but no available certificat has been found.
Hello, I am facing a huge problem in my sql server database using access as a front end.The main problem is trying to execute queries "views" ,since they reside on sql server now,and using variables or parameters in reports and forms to filter on this query. Ex. how can the following be implemented using the same query but in sql server? Access ------ SELECT MAT_Charts.YYYYMM FROM MAT_Charts WHERE ((([Area_Code] & "-" & [GROUP_CODE])=[Reports]![MAT_Chart_C1].[MAT_Key])) GROUP BY MAT_Charts.YYYYMM;
It is specifically this statement in which I am interested: [GROUP_CODE])=[Reports]![MAT_Chart_C1].[MAT_Key]))
I am getting error in sysindexes when i run dbcc checkdb on a production db. the error is Server: Msg 8928, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 please help me to remove this all the options of dbcc checkdb as well as table are not helping me
I want to achieve the following in (SSIS/SSDT for SQL 2012) -Â
I have a generic SSIS package which simply sends out email notifications using SMTP email task (this package is within its own project, and has project level input parameters).
I need to be able to call this package in the Event handler section of every package (numbering in about less than 60) that we have. These packages are within their own respective projects.
I thought I could use the "execute package task", but it turns out , using this, I cannot call a package that is part of some other project. I also cannot call a package that is stored in the CATALOG. Is there any way I can do this ?
When I call the child package , I should be able to send in parameters like - error information and package name of the Parent package.
I have an SSIS package (TransAgentMaster) that I recently modified to include a call to a child package via the file system. The child package creates a text file. When I run the package in dev studio then the child package/text file is produced.
I then imported the TransAgentMaster as a stored packagesfilesystem package into SQL SSIS and executed the package. The child package produced the text file.
I then ran the SQL Server Agent to see if the child package would work and it did not generate the text file. Thus after updating a SSIS package importing the package into SSIS the job that calls the package will not call the child package. Please not that the TransAgentMaster package calls 7 children packages €¦ just not my new one.
Any thoughts why the agent will not run the child newly crated childe package?
p.s. Does anyone have any needles I can borrow? I think sticking them in my eyes would be nicer than working with SSIS.

Hi. I need to import excel file in database. i first need to do an unpivot task. the column names are dates and SSIS seems to be unable to pick up the column name as it is replaced by F2 F3 F4etc Can you advise of a solution. thanks ken
I'm finding that the standard components often just don't quite meet my needs, but would only need some fairly minor changes to save me and my team a lot of work (and produce more elegant solutions). So I was just wondering whether the source code was available for the standard components that come with SSIS, or if there is anyway to extend their functionality? Or do you just have to start form scratch?
I need to build an asp.net/C# application to read values from an Excel spreadsheet. Once the values are read from the spreadsheet, the C# code will do some elementary statistics on the values read. Then the values read and their computations will be written to a sql server database. My manager suggested that SSIS might be a good candidate technology for doing this type of work. Does that sound correct? My only hesitation with using SSIS is that I want to keep the application as simple as possible, so that the code can be more portable. Maybe might argument is not a good one, but maybe someone can help me out here. Ralph
Dear Friends, I store several configurations in the main database of my SSIS packages. I need to get the servername from a xml or txt file in order to get those configurations stored in my database. How you think is the better way to do that? Using a FlatFileSource to read the file and a script to save the value into a SSIS variable? Using the package configuration I cant do that... maybe I dont know, but I can save the SSIS variale in the configuration file, but what I need is to do the inverse, read the configuration file and save the value in the SSIS variable. How the best way you suggest?! Regards!! Thanks.
We have SQL 2008 in development but only SQL 2005 in production. I have an SSIS package that was created in 2008 but need to deploy it to a SQL 2005 server. The '05 server will not import the package because of its version. Is there a way to convert back or 'save as' SSIS '05?
I have two questions to ask in this one thread. I would appreciate any feedback.
1. Is it possible to create GUI from SSIS using macro so that it can display forms or dialogs? If so how can I create a form that can be used to pass the parameters for the execution of the SSIS??
2. Is it possible to pass parameter(s) to SSIS? If yes, how can we do it...Please provide me with any example.
Scenarion: 1.- SSIS Package execute tasks on 2000 SQL Server Database 2.- Execution takes places using Business Intelligence Studio Question: 1.- How can I tracked that SQl 2000 tasks took place using a SSIS Package?
I am new to SSIS. I am trying to install just the SSIS in one machine("SSIS Machine") and just the DB Engine ("SQL Server Machine") in another machine. What I am trying to do is, separating the SSIS service and packages from the Database Engine and trying to run in in another machine. I have few questions on this topic. I searched on this forum but I couldn't find a concrete answer to those questions. Forgive me if it already answered/asked multiple times.
1. When I install SSIS in "SSIS Machine", do I need to install client components also in the same machine? 2. I already established this setup (SSIS with client components in one machine and SQL Server in another) but when I tried to connect to the SSIS thro' Management Studio from Sql Server machine, I keep getting "Access Denied" error. Is it possible to connect to SSIS server from another machine (using Management studio)? I tried the DCOM security permission options I found in the internet(I don't have domain id so I gave "Everyone" full access) but still I get the same error. Any help would be appriciated. 3. Do I need 2 SQL Server Licenses (Enterprise) if I go with this environment? 4. Is it possible to configure SQL Job to run SSIS installed in another machine?
I am completely new to SSIS and have been given a large project (of course with a tight deadline) that has the absolute requirement of using SSIS. I am/was very, very good with DTS and could easily accomplish what I need to do with an ActiveX script task in DTS in no time, but as this is new development, we are not to use ActiveX script tasks within SSIS since it will not be supported in the next SQL Server release. I'm thinking script task, but please give some comments on how you would accomplish the following in SSIS (please remember I'm new to SSIS, so don't assume I know anything. )
I must accomplish this: in a nutshell, I need to create separate tab delimited text files of customer informaion. One for each region. Each region consists of X amount of states and we have X amount of regions. (Pseudo code followed by standard explanation)
Select a max value from region lookup table in SQL (this is the # of regions)
for N=1 to MyMaxValue
select states from region lookup table where region code = N (the current region we are on) 'this returns a list of states in a region, need these in array or recordset object or something Open an output file which will be a tab delimited text file we will write results below in loop to (in DTS I would programatically kick off a transformation task in the package) 'loop thru states returned, so if in a rs object... do while not rs.eof
execute customer stored procedure, passing as a variable the current state we are on 'this will return all customers within a state, this whole result set (approx 1 million) needs to go to the tab delimited file 'I have to execute this stored procedure for each state & then write results to the SAME file, until we are onto a different region
rs.movenext close file loop next
OK, so basically, as you can see, Its sort of simple in a way what I need to do, i just have no idea how to go about doing this in SSIS. I can not hard code any state or region values. I MUST read them in from the lookup tables as region codes are constanatly changing and we are constantly adding in new states and new regions, so with above coding idea, it would always dynamically pick up any new states, new regions or changes.
So in a nutshell, I need to create separate tab delimited text files of customer informaion. One for each region. Each region consists of X amount of states and there are X amount of regions. Pretty strait forward, huh? The requirements are strait forward, but SSIS is throwing me for a loop... it does not seem flexible enough to be as dynamic as I need it to be to do this. I'm sure it is, just my understanding of it is very basic so far.
Please provide your suggestions! I think a lot of newbies would benefit from some SSIS design info... how to do common things in SSIS, but beyond just retrieving a recordset and writing it to a file... what do you do when you need to add just a few layers of decision processing, and retriving recordsets and writing files based on that decision processing?????
Hi Guys i write a thread before asking for help with reading an uploaded csv file, i have my code, it reads the csv file and currently displays it in a datagrid but what i actually want is to take the read information and import it into my sql express db. Heres the code<script runat="server"> Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) If (IsPostBack) Then Grid1.Visible = True Else Grid1.Visible = False End If End Sub Sub UploadButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) 'Save the uploaded file to an "Uploads" directory ' that already exists in the file system of the ' currently executing ASP.NET application. ' Creating an "Uploads" directory isolates uploaded ' files in a separate directory. This helps prevent ' users from overwriting existing application files by ' uploading files with names like "Web.config". Dim saveDir As String = "Data"
' Get the physical file system path for the currently ' executing application. Dim appPath As String = Request.PhysicalApplicationPath
' Before attempting to save the file, verify ' that the FileUpload control contains a file. If (FileUpload1.HasFile) Then Dim savePath As String = appPath + saveDir + FileUpload1.FileName
' Call the SaveAs method to save the ' uploaded file to the specified path. ' This example does not perform all ' the necessary error checking. ' If a file with the same name ' already exists in the specified path, ' the uploaded file overwrites it. FileUpload1.SaveAs(savePath)
' Notify the user that the file was uploaded successfully. UploadStatusLabel.Text = "Your file was uploaded successfully."
Else ' Notify the user that a file was not uploaded. UploadStatusLabel.Text = "You did not specify a file to upload." End If
End Sub
Sub DisplayButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim sConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=C:inetpubwwwrootMerlinLocalPostOfficeAppData;Extended Properties=""text;HDR=NO;FMT=Delimited""" Dim objConn As New OleDbConnection(sConnectionString) objConn.Open() Dim objCmdSelect As New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM csv.txt", objConn) Dim objAdapter1 As New OleDbDataAdapter() objAdapter1.SelectCommand = objCmdSelect Dim objDataset1 As New DataSet() objAdapter1.Fill(objDataset1, "csv.txt") Grid1.DataSource = objDataset1.Tables(0).DefaultView Grid1.DataBind() objConn.Close() End Sub
</script> My csv file does not have headers so the default value is F1, F2, F3 F4, F5,F6, F7, my database has the following columns, ID,AddressLine1,AddressLine2,AddressLine3,AddressLine4,AddressLine5,AddressLine6,Postcode I need to know how to import the information direct into the db rather than displaying it on the page, ive tried but im really new to this and cant get it to work. I cant use DTS or bulk insert as the server this will go on doesnt have sql on it, the db is an MDF file so is transportable with the app. Thanks for your help

Hi, I am trying to make a backup of my database using Sql-DMO
When I do the backup on my server, my code runs fine. But when I backup from across the network from another computer, the database is saved on the server and not on the computer from where I am executing my application. How set SQLl-DMO to backup on the computer from where I am?
here is my code (found on the net)... Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor 'create an instance of a server class Dim my_srv As SQLDMO._SQLServer = New SQLDMO.SQLServerClass 'connect to the server my_srv.Connect("servername", "userid", "password")
'create a backup class instance Dim my_backup As SQLDMO.Backup = New SQLDMO.BackupClass 'set the backup device = files property my_backup.Devices = my_backup.Files 'set the files property to the File Name text box my_backup.Files = Me.txtFilePath.Text 'set the database to the chosen database my_backup.Database = "MYDB" 'perform the backup my_backup.SQLBackup(my_srv) MsgBox("Database successfully backed up.", MsgBoxStyle.Information) Cursor = Cursors.Default
