OLAP Manager Installation Issue

In order to install OLAP Services (the Client for the OLAP Manager specifically), do you need to have NT 4.0 or should you be able to install the client on Win95?
I have Win95 at my desktop and when I install OLAP Service, I only get the "MDX Sample Application" and the "Readme" file to install. During the setup, these are the only two options available for installation.

Can anyone tell me where to fine some good help on designing Date type dimensions in an OLAP cube.
This particular thing has been a pain for me..
I have a Time dimension in my CUBE which has year-week-day as levels.
I want the week to start from Monday and span seven days ( naturally !! ). But OLAP surprises and entertains me by showing different number of days in every week. Whatever I do, it never starts a week on Monday and spans it for next 7 days consistently.

DSN Data Source For OLAP
Jun 5, 1999I am starting using OLAP service. The first problem the first day I use it.
I setup a system DSN for OLAP under ODBC source. I use SQL driver to create a data source to a SQL server. I am using SQL SA login account. Then I go into OLAP manager create database. Then in the library I set up a data source using the DSN I created before.In the General Tab I use OLE DB for ODBC provider. After this I try to create a new cube using the wizard. I got error the message that the SQL login is invalid. I double check it is right login account. I failed several times. Then I tried directly create data source under library and not using the DSN I created before. The first time it failed again has the same message. Then the second time when I create data source I use NT authentication instead SQL login. Now everything went fine. I was able to create a cube. But I still wondering what is preventing using SQL login account when creating data source.

I would like to use an OLAP Connection Manager in a script task.

OLAP Report Data Source
Apr 29, 2008I prepared an OLAP cube for the report data source in the SSAS 2005. The OLAP cube consists of more than 20 dimensions and several measure groups. I then created the subset/view of the OLAP cube using the "Prepective" function and limit to not more than 7 dimensions on each of the subset. How do I reference the OLAP cube subset as the data source when developing the report in the report designer. Furthermore what is the advantage of creating multiple smaller OLAP cubes with less dimensions comparing to one big OLAP cube with several subset/view attached to it. Thanks.

Nov 29, 2006I've generated some mining models against an OLAP data source (dimension). However, when I go to generate a lift chart, it seems that the only data source that can be used for input is the data source view (the relational database). Is that right? Or is there something I'm missing here.
I was figuring I'd use one slice to train the model, then another slice to test the accuracy of the results. But right now it's looking like I can't do that.

I think I found a bug or something, I have created a package like this
For Loop Container
OLE DB source, Sql Variable the query is an openquery with an MDX query
Script Component (just ToString("+00,-00") transformations)
OLE DB destination
End loop
the MDX query is changed within the variable which is evaluated as expression.
when I run that package the process msmdsrv.exe starts consuming more and more memory.
I don't know if it's the analysis services cache that gets bigger or something else. but if it is, how do I clear it in SSIS?
just in case, the mdx query goes like this:
select {[Datos Resumen Mensual]}
on columns,
[Cuenta].[Cuenta].&[variable1]:[Cuenta].[Cuenta].&[variable2] on rows
from [Bd Rtd]
WHERE ([Tiempo].[Mes].&[2007-09-01T00:00:00],[Unidad Negocio].[Unidad Negocio].&[1])

OLAP Server Or SQL Analysis Service

I am new to SQL Server and not quite understand the difference between OLAP server or SQL Analysis Service. Are they referring to the same thing?? An user asked me to confirm that the OLAP server is active on a server running SQL Server 2005, what do I need to check. The Analysis service is up and running, does it mean it is OK??

i am having sql65 with service pack3, Today i tried to load service pack5 on my server, i dont know what happened it didnt installed,i got the following message.
a critical error has occured unable to load library file
c:mssqlinnsqlsetup.dll
after that when i tried to open enterprise, i got the following error.
The application or DLL d:mssqlinntwdblib.dll
is not a valid windows nt image. Please check this
againest your installation diskette.
so , is there any problem in my cd(service pack5), or did i made any mistake while installing, according to my knowledge i didnt made any mistake, but i got this problem. pls anyone tell me what i have to do while installing service pack5.

Apr 13, 2007My computer install SQL server express, when i try to develop my project, I found out there are some tools missing from this edition. So i try to upgrade to enterprise edition. I setup the enterprise edition, it saying i already have exist copy of SQL server. It does not allow to upgrade. So i try to uninstall the SQL server express and install the enterprise edition. After i install the enterprise edition, it missing all the server service. In Surface Area Conforuration missing all the service. That's mean the program installed, but the service part is missing. Is there any way to get back those service?. I already try to install those package, no matter how i try to install those service package, it keep saying i didn't install any of them. Please help.

After I installed Sql Server, I ran windows update. it downloaded the service pack 1 fine, but during the installation, it just frozed at the middle, so I cancelled it, but the window froze, so I had to end process. Is my sql server messed up? I kind of tested it, and it seems to work? Is it ok if I just download SP 1 and reinstall it?

MSSQLServer Service (6.5) Stoppage Upon Installation
Mar 12, 2002When we try to connect the Sql server from our client, the MSSQLServer service stops and when we try to restart the service it goes back to the stop state after few seconds.
Server Configuration in order of installation,
1.WINNT 4.
2.SP4
3.SQL SERVER 6.5
4.Service PAck 5a for Sql Server 6.5
5.SP6a for NT
Workstation setup.
1.Member of the domain inwhich the SQL SERVER 6.5 is present
2.Sql client 6.5
3.SP4(for NT)
4.SP6a(for NT)
No Service packs were installed in the workstation.
When we try to connect the server from the server the MSSQLServer service stops.We even tried reinstalling the entire setup from scratch.
Kindly help us in this regard.

SQL 6.5 Installation Of Service Pack 5a Fails ???
Jul 11, 2001It seems that all of a sudden my companies clients are running into problems with the installation of servicepack 5a on SQL Server 6.5 workstations. The servicepack is apparently getting to the point where it checks the master DB and then Chkmast.exe returns a value of 0 which seems to indicate that there is not enough space in the master DB for the service pack to install. I have expanded master databases well beyond the capacity where this would ever be a problem but the service pack continues to fail on chkmast.exe. What nweeds to be done to allow the service pack installation to complete?

I understand that from Sql Server 2005 service packs should be able to be applied with no disruption, is this true ?
I want to install service pack 1 on our 2005 instances but i cannot find any documentation in BOL or the official SP1 website on installation steps.
Is there no thing i need to do when i install the service pack ? I am just weary of applying a service pack to the instance while users are woking etc.
I find it very starnge that they are no reccomended steps to follow before applying th service pack. If anyone has a link to this i would really appreciate it as i cannot find ot anywhere ?

But myproblem is that while creating setup the server components and Report server is not installed.
Dut to that i cant run my report.It gives me error ,No report server was found .
I dont know what i missed? Anybody help me?

Do any one has a step by step instructions for installing the service pack 2 and 3 on Active/Passive cluster. I installed sqlserver 7.0 in one active/ passive cluster and it worked successfully. Now I followed the instructions as given by microsoft by running the cluster wizard. It removed the virtual server. I made all sqlservr services offline.
When I try installing I couldn't able to install as it is saying "Active virtual server is there run clustered wizard in all the nodes". Now I am in the middle of no where.
Please help me asap.
