User Credentials Are Getting Lost When Using Shared Datasource

Jun 6, 2007

Hello All,

I have a situation and no idea what is going wrong.

We have many reports stored and view from the report manager. many of these reports internally use a datasource which is shared among others.

Many a times we have realised that the report stops working with the error.
Reporting Services Error

The current action cannot be completed because the user data source credentials that are required to execute this report are not stored in the report server database. (rsInvalidDataSourceCredentialSetting) Get Online Help

SQL Server Reporting Services

All i have to again do is update the user credentials and it starts working again. but nobody explicitly remove the credentials also. i dont know if it a tools bug or some where i am making a mistake in deploying. i deploy the reports through visual Studio.

Any idea?

Credentials Of The User Datasource

Sep 12, 2007

Hi,

I'd like to programme the execution of a report through the execution property option. However, when I try to do it a message error appears related to credentials of the datasource.

The present action is impossible to complete, because the credentials of the user datasource needed to execute this report are not stored on report server database.

I've tried all possible combinations.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Shared Connections And Stored Credentials For Subscriptions?

Apr 11, 2007

I can't seem to get this to work and have to resort to a custom connection for each report in Server Manager. The problem with that is that I have to re-do it every time I re-deploy the reports. Is there a secret to this that I have not found yet?

Stored Credentials On Shared Data Source

Jan 5, 2007

I'm trying to use stored credentials to enable caching. I've created a special windows user account with minimum permissions for just this task, and once set up, it works great (almost).

I can update the shared data source using SQL Mgt Studio or directly via the Report Manager to use a set of -windows- stored credentials. But I don't seem to be able to do the same via VS.NET 2005. I can only store -SQL- credentials, which I have no need to enable and no desire to add to my surface area.

The problem lies that every time I deploy any report that using that data source (which is nearly all of them), the data source is re-published, which wipes out the stored credentials and caching immediately stops.

I've tried messing with the XML directly, with no luck, and changing assorted advanced settings, but nothing seems to stick.

Obviously I can manually update the credentials each time I deploy something, but surely it seems that there must be a better way. Is there a way to either set the DS to use stored windows credentials, or just plain prevent the deployment of the DS every time a dependent report is published?

Suggestions?

Datasource Credentials And Linked Reports

Feb 21, 2007

Hi,

we have a problem with linked reports. We are using the same reports that are run on about 70 different Oracle schemas. The credential information is passed when calling the report. This works fine for reports and reports with subreports. But when linking to another reports, the credential information is lost.

Is the a possibuility to pass the datasource credential information to a linked report?

Thanks in advance for your help

Shared Datasource Problem

Mar 10, 2006

I have created a few packages which uses shared 2 data sources called source and desitination. When i change the server in the datasource file
manuallyprogramatically, it is not reflecting in all the packages. Ideally all the packages should refer to this shared datasource, but i found out that the server name is hardcoded in each and every package which destroyes the concept of shared data sources in SSIS packages. How ever if i change the server name in the data source from the SSIS environment itself then all packages using the shared datasource are updated. Is there a work around for this apart from changing the server in every package.

Shared Datasource In Different Folder...

Jul 16, 2007

Hi all,

Ive tried searching but nothing came up specific to my problem.

I currently have all the reports separated into separate folders, such as Finance, HR etc, and the datasources in a datasources folder at the root level. My problem is that when i upload reports into their appropriate folder, the shared datasource information gets deleted, and i need to re-map it everytime.

Is there anyway to have the specific reports point to specific shared datasource folders on the report server when i upload them?

cheers

Prompt For User Credentials For Database

Jun 18, 2007

Hello friends,
In my web application I have saved my connection string into web.config file. Now I have to send this web application to the client in the form of web set up. The issue is that on the client side, user credentials for the database will be different. So can we do some setings that the web application whenever will run should ask for the server name, username & Password. If this can be done then the application can be run anywhere considering all compatibilities.
Please let me know how this can be done.

How To Set My ASP.NET Application To Access SQL Server 2005 Using Client's User Credentials?

Jan 29, 2007

Hi guys,I'm not sure if I'm just bad at googling but I can't seem to find a way to set an ASP.NET 2.0 web application to connect to SQL Server 2005 using the current client's user credentials. My web application is using Integrated Windows Authentication so its Page.User.Identity is set to a DOMAINusername value... I want to pass that to my connectionstring or have my connections pick up the identity automatically and use that Identity when accessing the db server.Oh and another thing, my IIS Application Pool is using a specific Identity itself, so I don't know if that might affect the above.Hope someone could help.

User Credentials Delegation From IIS On WinXP To SQL Server On Win2003SRV Fails

Jan 12, 2007

Problem:

I am trying to create an asp.net website with integrated windows authentication
to access SQL databases. IIS resides on WinXP and SQL Server
on Win2000 SRV. Both are in the same NT Domain. IIS and SQL Server cannot
reside on the same machine and a stand alone web server is
ideal as the website needs to access multiple SQL Servers. IIS is set to
Integrated Windows Authentication. The machine running IIS & the SQL Server
are set to be "trusted for delegation" in active directory. The domain user
accounts that will be accessing the databases are not marked as "Account
is sensitive and cannot be delegated".

The connection string that the web app uses to connect to SQL database is:

"Data Source=PWSSQLT;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=Pace_Master;Persist Security Info=true"

with which the user credentials should be flown to the SQL database.
But instead the delegation fails and results in the following ANONYMOUS authentication failure error:

Lost User Stored Procedures

Jun 2, 2007

Hi,

I presume the two problems I have are actually one. (hopefully)

I copied my database from my client machine, to a small business server when I deployed the application.

When I ran the program, where it called up a stored procedure, I got an error message

The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'Empty Temp Tables' database datbasename, schema 'dbo'

The procedures are there and visible in the Visual Studio IDE and they were there in the Sql Data directory, from where I copied the database files. I checked this from Management Studio on the client machine.

I decided to check my stored procedures in Management Studio on the server, and it seems the whole folder is missing.

Help would be appreciated

Hard Drive Crashed. Master && User Db Mdf && Ldf Files Lost

Jan 31, 2006

Hello.

One of our hard drives has crashed and as a result we have lost our master mdf/ldf & user db mdf/ldf files. It's not that a critical system by any means, but if the hard drive crashes and the master mdf/ldf files & user db mdf/ldf are lost, is there any way of restoring the system?

I'm thinking we probably need to re-install Enterprise Manager completely, and re-install the user db from a backup.

Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

DB Engine :: Single User Mode Session Lost After Background Processes Jump In

Nov 28, 2012

We have an application running on SQL server. This application restores DB very frequently using Single user mode. Following are the SQLs that are executed to restore the database in single user mode and to get the database back in multi user mode.

alter database [test-db] set single_user with rollback immediate; --This sql is run using test-db
use master;restore database [test-db] from database_snapshot = 'snapshot_test-db';
alter database [test-db] set multi_user;

After switching the test-db to single user mode some 4-5 background processes of Taskmanager jump in for the test-db kicking off the session that application has taken over in single user mode . These background process are deadlocked between them selves.

Please refer to the output of sp_who2 below at link [URL] .... and following is the deadlock XML.

NOTE: SPIDs in deadlock XML may differ from the output of sp_who2 as spids keeps on changing for these processes.
<deadlock-list>
<deadlock victim="process4bbfc78">
<process-list>
<process id="process4bbfc78" taskpriority="0" logused="10000" waitresource="DATABASE: 5 " waittime="705"

[Code] ....

On searching for this problem I found out that people have faced similar problem but I was unable to find out the root cause and debug steps for this problem. Stopping the SQL server is provided as a solution to kick out these background processes but this is not a feasible in our case as code to restore DB runs very frequently resulting in this problem at a good frequency.

I also made sure that SQL Server Agent is not running. The SQL services running on server are SQL server, SQL Server Browser and SQL Server VSS Writer.

Reporting Services :: SSRS Loses Ability To Delegate User Credentials To Database Time To Time?

Apr 30, 2015

we have problems with our SQL Reporting Service 2012 (SSRS) server . We have setup Kerberos delegation between SSRS and the database server (SQL Server Always-on cluster) so users are authenticated down to the database. The issue occurs from time to time that SSRS loses the ability to delegate the user credentials to the database. At this point in time the Report Server logs contain rejected database connections because of ANONYMOUS logon. After restarting SSRS the problem is gone.

System Credentials

Jul 27, 2007

On to the next understanding topic. I understand the concept of credentials and why they are needed with the isolation of machine admin authority and running a SQL Server instance. I had a question on the purpose of the system credentials.

##MS_SQLResourceSigningCertificate## is the credential utilized by the instance itself to gain access to Windows for such things as reading and writing to database files, network stacks, writing to the error logs/event logs, etc. ##MS_AgentSigningCertificate## is the credential that is used by SQL Server Agent for accessing any necessary Windows resources.
##MS_SQLReplicationSigningCertificate## is used only by the replication engine to allow it to access Windows resources.
##MS_SQLAuthenticatorCertificate## is used during the authentication process for SQL Logins to provide authenticator services and is also used to access the Windows security API.

Each of the credentials is a certificate which is loaded into the instance and you can find the corresponding certificate within the data folder for the instance. I'm assuming that a mechanism is already in place to prevent someone from mucking with the certificates on the OS to gain access back into the SQL Server by comparing the signature already stored within the instance with the signature of the certificate on the OS. (This is also part of the larger discussion of certificate use within SQL Server itself and explains why you can't change the service account/password using the Service Control Applet.)

Did I get that correct, am I way off base, or is this one of those "no comment" items?

Subscriptions: How To Disable Credentials

May 8, 2008

I'm using SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services.

I'm trying to create a subscription to automatically generate a report daily and put a resulting pdf into a folder on the drive. Users will then receive an email notification with a link to the report so they can just click on it and see the report.

When creating the subscription, I am prompted for a set of "credentials used to access the file share" (user name and password). But I don't want my users to have to supply any credentials, I just want them to click on the link and get the report. Is there a way to disable the requirement for the credentials?

Thank you.

One Or More DataSources Is Missing Credentials

Get this when selecting parameter value in Report Manager

Report is working fine in preview

Up to me, it has nothing to do with credentials

I have some analysis server reports.

I have a single value report parameter, the report runs fine with the default value, when I select another value than the default one, I get above message immediately.

I got the error since I rebuild the report with SP2 CTP.

Strange thing is that the other single value parameter of the report works fine (year)

And that I get the error also with other reports, and on the same dimension (Organisation)

And that I do not have the error when I change the parameter to multi-value (but as the report is not written for multiple values...)

MDX queries are as follows:

Discovered something else that is very strange, you change the value of the parameter, you get the error, you hit the back button, and you can run the report with the new parameter

Did one more test, changed the order of the parameters, is now going wrong on the other parameter, Year.

So, it is always on the first parameter.

Correction, I have put a multi-value parameter as first, I still have the problem, it is always on the first single value parameter

Cannot Use Credentials For Proxy Account

Jul 31, 2006

Hi,

because my package does not run with SQL-Server-Agent, but without problems if started by "hand", I created a new credential which contains the information needed for the package. I did this as described on: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190703.aspx .

After that i tried to create an proxy account, but when I chose the created credential, Management Studio says "Der Proxy "[name_of_credential] ist kein gültiger Windows-Benutzer(Microsoft SQL Server, Fehler: 14529)". This means something like: "This Proxy is not a valid windows-user. Error: 14529".

Any hints how to use a credential that is not a windows-user?
