User ID And Password For Importing Access Table
Oct 25, 2006
Hello, everyone:
I know it is a simple question. I am writing a query to import a table (MyTable) from an Access Database (MyDatabase.mdb). MyDatabase.mdb is in C: in local. This is the query from BOL.
SELECT a.*
FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyDatabase.mdb';'admin';'mypwd', MyTable) AS a
By BOL, admin and mypwd should be user_ID and password. But I am doing testing in local, and don't set user_ID and password. How to handle two things.
Thanks
YTZ

the share can be accessed by all who can provide a specified username and password.
I use the following code:
But where to specify username name password to access that folder?
DECLARE @cmdstr varchar(1000)
set @cmdstr = 'copy \servernamefoldername$ C:DataExTest'
print @cmdstr
EXEC xp_cmdshell @cmdstr
Any sort of help would be highly appreciated.

Hi all,
Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct forum. I am still learning about SQL 2005. Here is my issue. I have an access db that I archive weekly into and SQL server table. I have used the dst wizard to create an import job and initally that worked fine. field I have as the primary key in the access db cannot be the primary key in the sql table since I archive weekly and that primary key field will be imported several time over. I overcame this initally by not having a primary key in the sql table. This table is strictly for reference. However, now I need to setup a unique field for each of the records in the sql table. What I have done so far is create a recordID field in the sql table that is an int and set as yes to Identify (auotnumber). That worked great and created unique id for all existing records. The problem now is on the import. When I try to import the access table i am getting an error because of the extra field in the sql table, and the error is saying cannot import null value into this field. So... my final question is how can I import the access table into the sql table with one extra field which is the autonumber unique field? Thanks a bunch for any asistance.
Bill

Hi,
I'm about to embark on writing some code in perl or VBscript that automatically synchronises a constantly updated Access database with an MSSQL database.
I know MSSQL has an import tool built into Enterprise manager but I'm wondering if theres a stored procedure that does this?
The way I'm thinking of doing it is to read the all the access tables into separate hash arrays and then INSERTing them into the MSSQL database after checking for any duplicates. This all sounds a bit time consuming (there are a large number of tables) and processor intensive.
If anyones done anything like this before, I'd love to hear their views......!
Thanks!

Hello all.
I was wondering if there was a simple Import statement I could use in SQL to import an Access Table into SQL Server 2005.
I know how to use the SSIS Import/Export Wizard, but that seems excessive to import a single 204 record table
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

My goal is to write a DR plan where i am restoring all user databases onto a diffrent server in a event of hardware failure. I was trying to figure out a way to extract DDL of user accounts and their permissions on all user databases so i can simplify my DR documentation.
This is the plan I came up with...to restore all system and user dbs on a different Physical SQLServer.
1. build named instance $PROD
2. restore master database
- startup sqlserver in single user mode -m or DAC sqlcmd -S ServerName -U sa -P<xxx> –A
net stop MSSQLSERVER$PROD
net start MSSQLSERVER$PROD -m
- restore database master from disk e:master.bak with replace;
3. start sqlserver normally
4. stop SQLServer agent
5. restore msdb
-restore database msdb disk e:msdb.bak with replace;
6. restart SQLServer
7. Restore User Databases.
8. Run Sp_change_users_login for all users
-Sp_Change_users_logins 'auto_fix','username'

My problem is that I can't query a couple of tables. I created them using DTS myself, in a db called contracts, and called one of them 010425. I've logged in as SA, and making sure the correct DB is shown in Query Analyser.
Here's the query...and very simple it is;
SELECT TOP 10 * FROM [dbo].[010425]
I just keep getting the following error message;
Server: Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Invalid object name 'dbo.010425'.
But it shows up in Sysobjects and EM!
I can query the system tables, using EXACTLY the same syntax...no problem there.
I've got SQL Server 7 running on W98. Everything is happening locally.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, people?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jaishel

I need to run a script in production that adds primary key to a table. Because table is large, I can't run it in one shot, the log file is not so large to accommodate it. Instead, I created a new table with same structure plus new surrogate primary key, and I populate it in a cursor loop.
I already ran it many times in test server, and no problems with that. But the problem will be in production when applications will be accessing this table and try to insert/update it while I am running my loop.
So I am looking for a solution how to block users to access this table, it's OK if they receive an error. Setting database to single user mode will not work because I don't want to block them from all the rest tables in this database.

Hi guys,
My users are unable to view reports on server A. When trying to access it shows up as users have no access to the reports.
We have another server B which also deploys the same set of reports,to the same set of users as Server A.Users are able to view the reports on Server B.
Both server B & A are used for deploying reports that are created on another development server.I am very new to the concepts of IIS and report administration.Could someone tell me what I can start checking on? What are the settings that I can compare on both server ?
If I am not very clear on the problem explained above.Do let me know I would be glad to explain futher.

I am havining problems connecting to my database in some projects.
I installed MSDE and didn't get prompted for any passwords. When I Initialize the connection and use: Integrated Security=aspi, the connection works ok for some projects but not for others, it doesn't seem to work with a server-side script block or from a sql dattabase that I created in the server explorer in visual studio VB.NET. When I test the dattabase connection in server explorer it works fine.
Is this intergrate securtiy supposed to work only with applications that connect to sample databases like the pubs database, and also not in server-side script?
How do I create a username and password for a default instance of MSDE?
I have found setup instruction on upgrading MSDE to create a username and password but I am not upgrading.
If I do create a username and password will initializing the connection with: Intergrated Security = aspi, still work?
I would apprecate any help I could get as I am a newbee.
Many thanks,
Glen Conaway

I have just installed MSDE (first time ever).
I am now trying to work with it (first time ever)
Most tools I now find I need to use, ask simple questions like:
Name of Server:
User Name:
Password:
I know the name of the server - fantastic
I did not specify a user name or password when installing -
WHAT DOES IT WANT ????
ie, How do you specify the user name and password AFTER installing the server.
GO ME ????????
PS - 'sa' and blank does not cut it at all.

Can the user change their password in Enterprise Manager? When they follow the documentation, this does not seem to work
unless they are sa: (I know about sp_password....we are trying to find a GUI method for typical user.)
Expand a server group; then expand a server.
Expand Security; then click Logins.
In the details pane, right-click the login to modify, and then click Properties.
In Password, on the General tab, enter a new password.
Confirm the password.

Hi,
I have a database app that deploys with sql 2005 express to each end-user. I would like to install sql 2005 express using Windows Authentication only. In this case, should I bother to set an sa password? And if I do set the sa password, how would I go about making sure that the sa password is different for every installation of sql express? Would it be recommended to save every end-user's sa password (possibly tens of thousands of passwords) just in case sql maintenance needs to be done on their computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is there a T-SQL command or script that would help me in retrieving a lost SQL User password? I have just migrated a SQL server instances from one server to another, and in order to modify the SSIS packages, I need the password for the user that it uses. I would much rather know the existing password rather than change it.

Is there a way to find out my user id and password that should be used in my connection string? If I can not find this information out for myself, do I need to go to some type of system administrator.
Here is the connection string in my web.config file.
<connectionStrings>
<add name="SPK" connectionString="Server=localhost; User ID=AppUser;Password=meander;Database=atstdb01;
Persist Security Info=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>
When I access this connection string via my code, A little dialog box pops up with the following error message:
Login failed for user AppUser. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
