I am having a problem with creating databases in MS SQL 2005 Server. When I attempt to assign an User Mapping for my SQL user account to the newly created database, the "dbo" user and schema is already assigned. When I try to drop this user in favor of my own, I receive an error message: Cannot alter the user "dbo" (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15150). I am connected to my database engine through the "sa" account.
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this question, but here it goes.
We have restored into sql 2005 the database backups made in sql 2000. We connect with trusted connection and application roles, and when trying to execute a transaction to another database (with the guest user), we get a permission error.
Does anyone know if, apart from restoring the databases, we should do something else to get the guest user working the same way as with sql 2000 in the restored databases?
can anybody help me. I'm looking for an easy way to grant permissions to a user in all user databases. I already have a script which grants permission to all views and userdefined tables within one database, but since I have to run it in about 100 databases it's still quite timeconsuming. Is there a way to execute that script in all user databases at once ???
i´m looking for TSQL-Code (7.0/2000) to identify, if a SQL Server Database ist a SystemDatabase or a UserDatabase. In the sysdatabases there is no information abount that.
Scenario: 1. Access to database objects is based on database roles. 2. Application administrators handle the assignment of users to database roles. Application administrators are first line managers, typically; they are not DBA's and not Help Desk staff.
Question: What products are available to simplify the management of user access to databases in the aforementioned scenario?
I have a user in SQL Server 2000 with public, datareader and datawriter roles on several databases. I need to select all those databases, how can I do that. I have tried sp_databases but I get ALL databases. I also tried sp_MShasdbaccess but I still get all databases.
Hi everyone, I have an instance with many databases in it. I am looking for the easiest way to see which of those databases a user has a login on. What is the most efficient way of doing this? Thanks, Anil
I have a SQL 2000 server with a lot of databases (about 100) and I would like to move a great deal of them (+/- 50) to a new SQL 2005 server. All the databases I would move has the same word in the database name. Let's say the all include "Customer" in the Database name. It would be a huge job to detach and attach every db manually. Is there a method that can detach db's based on a query againts the master db with a select on the name of the db?
If so, I also need to attach the db's on the new server with a script after moving the files to a new location.
I have a third party application that creates several databases on my sql server. This party uses the same user for accessing all this databases. However after moving to a new server this databases the user is no longer able to query them whith the exception of the "sa" user. Could anyone explain me how to add permissions to this databases manually so the user can query them again.
Hi, my first question, tried to use search first but couldnät find what I need.
Hopefully someone has asuggestion.
I work for a ISV producing HR applications.
When user starts the applications the program shows all databases that the user have access to. This is done by select all names from master..sysdatabases and then trying to "USE dbname" to see if user have access,. Users doesn't have sa rights.
This procedure takes approximately 90 secs for a server with 500 databases and that has become a problem.
Does anyone know off a faster method, any suggestions?
I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work.
When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine.
Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker.
Hi folks, i've an instance with many userdatabases. i want to use SP_HELPUSER to output all database users and roles defined to em. how come i do this through a script to view permissions in all databases. I couldn't use (USE database ) in a loop.
I like to schedule a task that provides with database usage size, current users online, memusage and CPU usage and store it into a database table once in a week. I tried looking at different system tables but not successful.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Express, and Management Studio Express, while logged on as an Administrator of my XP Pro machine. When I switch to my limited user account, Management Studio Express seems not to be aware that SQL Server is even running on the machine (although Configuration Manager can see it and reports that it is running). I'm sure I've missed something simple, but I can't find the answer anywhere... how can I get access to my local SQL Server from my limited user account?
I am trying to migrate reporting services from SQL server 2000 to SQL 2005. I followed the migration steps listed in one of the TechNet documents. Installed SQL 2005 and SP2.
Backed up existing SQL 2000 databases and restored on SQL 2005.
Went to Configuration tool and then to the Database setup. Connected to SQL 2005.
Clicked on the Upgrade button. The upgrade fails and I always get the following errors:
"The database version (C.0.6.54) does not match your reporting services installation. You must upgrade your Reporting services database"
Then I get this exception:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot find the user 'RSExecRole', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script) at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
I do not understand why it is looking for user 'RSExecRole', which is a role.
How would I set permission for SQL Server 2005 "User A" to prevent access to System and other user databases, also How to hide the databases that "User A" has no rights to. I mean, when User A logs in, All other user databases are not visible to him/her.
Deleting a Login from a server instance and adding it back did not show that the login was still mapped to databases. In SQL Server 2008, adding a Windows Login did not permit access to end user databases until the Windows Login was mapped to various databases. In SQL Server 2012, once a Windows Login is added to SQL Server Security, it may access ANY end user databaseWe use the following to circumvent this problem, Windows Login by Windows Login: DENY VIEW ANY DATABASE TO [TESTTest1]
How do you handle user level security with SQL Server 2005?
Say I have an HR database.
In Active Directory I have two groups: Managers, Employees.
Now in this HR Database I want to setup permissions in such a way that Managers can see all employees under them (but not other managers) and the employees can only see themselves.
(I'd have various levels of management defined in a table somewhere, so that each employee has a manager ID that links to another employee so that the CEO would be manager of everyone by working down the chain).
What I'm trying to understand is the best way to handle the permissions.
I'm not entirely clear on how to deal with that.
Would I use user chaining to do that, I wouldn't need impersonation (that's just for instances where you want dynamic SQL and it won't execute with user chaining, correct?)
Anyway, just looking for some general direction on this (obviously I need to get a good book it would seem).
Would I create a stored procedure that runs with EXECUTE AS permissions so that I'd have a non-interactive login it uses that has table access then all the other users have permission to execute the sproc?
So that sproc runs, pulls back a SELECT * FROM tbl_HRINFO and using a WHERE constraint limits who is returned WHERE SupervisorID = CurrentLoggedInEmployeeID ?
Also: How can I determine who is logged in and running the procedure, would the sproc use the SELECT USER_NAME command to see who was running it?
As you can see, I'm working from square one on all of this. Not sure if my posting entirely made sense, but hopefully someone can get me pointed in the right direction, thanks!
Below query tells us if guest user is enabled or disabled in a particular database
SELECT dp.name, CASE perms.class WHEN 0 THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END AS 'Enabled' FROM sys.database_principals dp LEFT JOIN (SELECT grantee_principal_id, class FROM sys.database_permissions WHERE class = 0 AND type = 'CO' AND state = 'G') AS perms ON dp.principal_id = perms.grantee_principal_id WHERE dp.name = 'guest';
Do we have a query which can also add the database name to above query output? The output must have columns with data against Name,Enabled,Database name
How to find last login date/time for user DML acitivity on databases on Instance?
Is there any way we can find our the last login date/time for databases?
Note: 1. We can find if the SQL Trace is running and store. This is not good solution         2. Audit logins off/on is also not good solution.        3. Using DMV's also not good option, if reboot sql server instance then historical values can not see.
I have system database and user database file are present in G,H and W drive. The process is going to be - copy data from G to S, H to T, W to U. Rename G to X, H to Y and W to Z. Rename S to G, T to H and U to W. Reboot the servers. The original G, H and W will then be X, Y and Z. The old S will be the new G, old T will be H and old U will be W. My question is that after doing this whether my SQL server will start or not
Help, don't quite understand, or more likely I've missed the point! Using VWD 2005 Express, I can create, manage/modify and SQL 2005 database aswell as maintain any data I enter into it. Fine, no problem there. However, when it comes to doing the same kind of thing with the database using MSSQL 2005 Management Studio Express, I remain mystified!? Any database I create above, through VWD 2005 Express, shows as being an attached DB in SQL MSExp and I'm able to detach and re-attach them. However, they are always attached as read only files so are unmodifiable!!! So... What is it I'm missing? What do I have to do to be able detach, attach, re-attach such databases in a modifiable form, ie NOT read-only Pulling my hair out over this one, so any advice gratefully rec'd Thanks in anticipation.......!!!
I recently upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 in our test environment. In 2000 I used Enterprise Manager to view my databases, users etc. but where can I see my databases in 2005?
Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. What does the authenticationmode have anything to do with the VS 2005 website connection? Should I change to mixed authetnication mode?TIA,Jeffrey
I have a restaurant POS application that is written in VB 6 and the data is being written to a access database. I need to access this database over the internet. I need to get certain tables (current sales) in this database to automatically send the updated data to a Web Server. My questions are: What is the best way to do this? Do I need to have sql express loaded on site and let it do the interactions with the Access server and then connect to SQL express over the internet? I am new to this and not sure of the best way to design it. Do I use Report services or analysis services to design?
I want to use two databases for my reporting services 2005. I want to connect to one database and check whether the logged in user is a portal admin using portalid and userid. If yes, then I will allow the user to user use all the stores. Stores are displayed in the drop down list as the multiselect parameter. If no, then I will connect to another database and check the user rights. Based on the user rights I will select only the stores that are applicable the user. i don't know how to use two databases in the reporting services. Please give me an idea to do this.
I had both SQL server 2000 & 2005 on my machine. I recently un-installed 2000 for some reason, and now the SQL 2005 does not show local databases. It cannot update local server information or it doesnt let me local as a new server. How do i go about installing local databases in this situation?
