how can we know that wether we had server tools or client tools on my machine?

I need to be able to administer SQL 6.5 and 7.0 servers from a single pc.
I have been told that I can't have SQL 6.5 and 7.0 tools installed on the same pc.
Is this correct? I can't find anything in BOL or Technet on the subject.

SQL 2000 Client tools SQL7 SP3 Server back-end.
I have a DTS Package created with SQL2000 client tools, which contains a SQL connection and a sql task (exec sp_who2). When I run the package on my PC it works, when I run the package via SQL Agent it comes back with :-
DTSRun: Loading... Error: -2147287038 (80030002); Provider Error: 0 (0) Error string: The system cannot find the file specified. Error source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package Help file: sqldts.hlp Help context: 713. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.
I am not using any files. The DTS Package is called PMC_Test
Here is the dtsrun syntax from the SQL Agent job.
DTSRun /S "APP003" /N "PMC_Test" /E
When I try and open the DTS package using SQL7 client tools I get the same error message.
Does anyone know of problems when using SQL7 Server and SQL2000 Client tools when editing and saving DTS Packages ?
My SQL 7 Server doesn't seem to recognise the DTS Package if saved from SQL 2000 Client tools, but works happily with packages saved from SQL7.
Can anyone clarify ?

How should I reinstall client Tools?
Might be to merge original SS2005 DVD with downloaded SP2?
Hi ,
I have installed the SQL 2005 Client tools in anticipation of our servers been upgraded to SQL 2005 soon. I would like to create a local instance of SQL 2005 i.e. Express so I can try out functionality while I wait for the servers to be upgraded.
Is this possible or is now installing Express going to mess up some of the currently installed tools?
Help appreciated.
In Server Explorer of VS .NET 2003, I tried to generate SQL script of the dbo.Portal (ibs)
but got
"To use this feature, you must install the client tols for SQL Server"
When I searched for Help, I've got
"1.Insert the MS SQL Server 2000 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive"
I installed and use MSDE and cannot recall the use of any CD for installation.

Does it mean that I cannot install client tools from MSDE installation?
If not...

The option is on the column shortcut menu in the power pivot window. When I select it, the column is hidden. I've looked in the help file to see what else this option is suppose to do, but couldn't find anything. I searched this forum, but didn't see anything that the option does, except hide/unhide a column.

I have to go back east.. I am going to be working remotely.
We still used SQL Server 2000 at work..
Will I be able to use SQL Server 2005 Express edition to remotely connect to and modify stored procs and tables?
what are all my options??
Ok, a while back, probably a year or so I started moving to MSDE. At the time a read posts on the Web that said you could use the client tools from the SQL Server Eval to manage MSDE. Great! I thought.
But more recently I get the impression that using those tools in not allowed. Can someone give me a diffinative answer.
I really want to stick with MSDE and am having a hard time convincing the boss to shell out $9,000+ for SQL Server on my dual processor web server. But I need DTS, Job Scheduling, etc...
Now my boss has wind of MySQL and knows that it's CHEAP.
If I can legally use the client tools with MSDE than I'm fine, if not I dread going to MySQL.
Your Advice is appreciated.
Anybody please help me !

Hello,
Does Service Pack 2 affect client tools? In other words, if you have a client machine with just the tools installed (management studio, BIDS, etc) do I need to run the SP2 package on this client as well?

HI
I have recently installed a copy of SQL server 2005 on to a windows 2003 server. During the install I selected to install the client tools (management studio and all that) all seemed to install ok no errors but after the install there is no management studio in the start menu. I have tried uninstalling the client tools and reinstalling them again I have also tried to launch management studio by browsing to the SqlWb.exe but the program fails to initialise any ideas?
(both SQL and Windows are at SP2)
Thanks
Jon
I am trying to deploy the SQL Server 2008 R2 Native Client via group policy to a bunch of clients. But i am unable to find any documentation regarding if this is even supported?
I have the two files: sqlncli(x86).msi and sqlncli(x64).msi that i have attached to a GPO as en assigned application. But the x64 package fails with this error:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Native Client -- The required IACCEPTSQLCLILICENSETERMS=YES command-line parameter is missing. By specifying this parameter, you acknowkledge that you accept the end user license terms for the Microsoft SQL Server 2008
R2 Native Client.
32 bit installed without this error. But if there is any documentation on this type of deployment and how to pass the parameters to a normal GPO deployment.
I can't find any info on supported deployment options.
Hi,
I just installed SQL Server for the first time on a windows 2003 OS which is on its on server. Then, I installed the client tools on my local computer. Now how do I connect to the sql server with my client tools? What I wanted to do is from my local computer use the enterprise manager and pull up the databases that are located on the server that contains the sql server.
Thanks a bunch,
Laura ;)
