From Test Environment To Web Hosting Company

Jul 9, 2006

I must be missing something, and its starting to fusterate me.  Bear with me here.
I created a site for a ...client I guess you'd call it, and made this really slick newletter generator thing.  The people from the web enter in their info, and if they want, they sign up for a newsletter -- all tied into a db, 1 table, 4 stored procedures, REALLY simple stuff.  They insisted I used a certain webhost which, on paper, looks like it will fit the bill.  I'm starting to question that.
On top of the newsletter thing, I created an aspnetdb for the "administration" side of it for her to log into and send out the newsletter so total, there's 2 dbs in the app_data folder.  Locally, it works GREAT and on my test box (iis6) that is running 2k5 express.  The webhost runs sql2k in (what I consider) a bastardized way.  Can't use the management studio, can't use anything except a really weak web-based interface which adds to my fusteration.
Anyway, my questions : 1, is there a way to make the mdf files work with sql2k without having to re-do the whole thing and 2, if I have to redo it, does anyone have an example connection string that might help out?

Now you all must admit that, if your somewhat new to this databasing, It's a ***.

The source for my application is Visual Web Designer 2005 Express

It is an ASP.Net driven site with membership roles and all the good stuff.

the latest theory is that I need to change the provider config in the web.config file from AspNetSqlProvider

to something else. Most of my complications and frustrations come from GoDaddy and no access to the

shared server (understandibly).

I hope I gave enough info for help and not too much..

Web Hosting - ASP.NET With SQL Server 2005 Express Database

Jun 6, 2006

What is needed for a hoster / hosting company to be able to host .Net applications with SQL Server 2005 Express database?

My questions regarding this issue basically are:

If a hoster has several sites hosted on a server, can each one of them have its own SQL Express database?
Or, do they have to be migrated to full SQL Server?

What is with the Upsize Tool for SQL Server Express (or something like that) - is it available?
Generally, how do hosters do their hosting - do they have SQL Server SPLA signed? Or do they just have SQL Server 2005 Express and allow users just to copy their web sites and databases to server?

I would really appreciate any answer.

Kind regards,

Luka

How To Import SQL 2005 .BAK From One Hosting Package To A Different Hosting Package?

ixwebhosting.com don't have a import feature in their control panel.

I have to maintain the SQL at ixwebhosting.com using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express since they don't have that feature in their cp. I don't see any import features in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express either.

How can I import it using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express or another free GUI program?

SQL 2005 In Hosting Environment

May 2, 2007

Hello,

I want to offer a SQL 2005 server in back-end configuration for my hosting clients. Basically this means that they administer the DB with a webbased tool and the DB server it self is configured in the backend and has no direct connect to the internet. The DBs can only be access from the frontend web server.

- What security considerations should I take to use this server in a public hosting environment?
- We only allow webbased administration, no direct connect to the server are allow and possible.
- Multiple databases will exist on the same server from different customers.

I really would like to have as many information as possible. There is not much usefull information available on the web or in the books I own about SQL.

The question should actually be: what do you want to prevent from happing on your servers by authenticated users and ofcourse unwanted users. And how to do this.

Handing Over SQL Server DB To Client Company

Oct 15, 2007

I would like to handover a SQL server 2005 database that I've been using for testing/development to a client for use in a production environment. Besides deleting my test records from the database and making a copy of the MDF file, do I have to handover the datase's LDF file too? I guess I should also compress the database before providing a copy. Please advise of "gotchas" I should be a aware of. Also, I guess the client's IT group would need to run my "create user" script first before mounting the database, since the created user is the owner of the database.

Thanks,
Phillip

Cannot Open Company File In Office Accounting - SQL Server Problem?

Jan 10, 2008

Hi guys,

I recently installed Office Accounting 2007 Professional on a Windows Server 2003 machine with SQL Server 2005 (installed on an existing instance) and updated Office Accounting with service pack 1. However, after I have created the company file, other users were unable to open it. The error message was "The company could not be opened. Please ensure the SQL Server exists, the service is running and access has been granted."

Below are some of the stuff I had done, but still cannot solve the problem:

- Under "Manage users and roles", I granted full control to all users in the AD.
- Made the company.sbc as well as the multiuser.sbc file available to everyone on the server's shared drive.
- Granted full control to all users in the AD for the above mentioned shared drive.
- Copied the company.sbc and multiuser.sbc files onto all client computers.
- Ensured that SQL Server is running.
- Checked the security options for the linked database to ensure all users have the necessary rights.
- Enabled TCP/IP and named pipes as well as the port 5356 and have restarted the services.
- Added port 5356 as an exception in Windows firewall on all client computers.
- I even switched off Windows Firewall on the server just to eliminate this possibility!
- Tried everything listed in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910012

I still get that error message on all client computers!!! What else have I left out? God bless me...

Aspnetdb.mdf On Hosting Server ?

Aug 5, 2007

I have established roles to restrict access to the data
entry pages.  The database is SQL Server which I've established on the hosting server.  Security was previously maintained through
~/app_data/aspnetdb.mdb (MS Access).  It works, but isn't too stable, so I have modified the security to use
SQL Server with an aspnetdb.mdf file, also located in the app_data
folder.  Is this appropriate?  Since it doesn't work, I assume not. It's now my assumption that I need to setup a SQL Server
database to support the security/roles.  I have seen some reference to
using a script to build the aspnet.mdf on the hosting server.  If
I do create such a database, is there anything special I need to do to
have my application read the aspnetdb?  Do I need a connection string
in the membership and/or roleManager sections of my web.config.
A little guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

SQL Server Express Hosting

I am currently developing an asp.net 2.0 app which uses form authenication now implemented in a sql server express mdf database file. I wonder if there will be problems when I want to deploy this app on a hosted server from a hosting provider. I have the impression that hosting a SQLexpress user instance is currently not supported by hosting companies. Is this correct? Should I revert to an msaccess database instead (we don't want to pay extra for full blown sql server storage).

SQL Server 2014 :: How To Copy Data Rows From Hosting To Local Server

Mar 11, 2015

I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:

Here is what I want to do:

I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

Client Connection To SQL Server On Shared Hosting

Jul 23, 2005

I'd like to do this:Have a SQL Server database hosted on a public facing web server.I want it to be held at an ISP/Web hosting company. Though I have ADSL hereI don't want to manage a server.I want some ASP pages accessing the database.I would also like for a very small number (probably 2) of users to accessthe database from a richer client. Perhaps Access/VB.I've tried using www.shanje.com, as a test. It seems to work, though thereare worries about security.I want to keep cost down!On 'normal' shared MS hosting, would it be possible to connect to the dbfrom a client like Access. The way most web hosts talk it doesn't look likeit. Is there any way of providing a richer client interface than plain webpages? I want things like autocomplete (beyond the first character) for dropdowns, keyboard shortcuts etc. This would be low volume. Essentially a private database held on theinternet.Yours, Jo
