We're planning to upgrade our OS from Windows2000Svr to Windows2003,my question is,will there be problem on my SQL2000 installed? is there patch needed for the SQL2000 to run in Windows2003 environment?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but we're ordering a new server, and we get our choice of OS with it. So I'd like to have 64-bit OS if I can.
In the larger plan, is there any problem upgrading from 32-bit SQL2000 to 64-bit SQL2005?

I need some strong points for the management to convince them to upgrade to sql2000 now than waiting for 6 months.
We are currently in process of developing this new product. All development is on sql7. I want to upgrade our database to sql2000 now rather than waiting after the release which might be in another 3 months.
I will be upgrading my SQL7 Servers (SP1) to SQL2000 and NT4 to WIN2000 this year. Unfortunately, I will not be able to get new boxes to do this, so I will have to do the upgrades on the systems I have. Our network people have not yet developed a plan for the WIN2K upgrade of our entire network. I will have to upgrade the SQL Servers before they have their plan together. If I want, I can upgrade the SQL Servers to WIN2K before the rest of the network. Assuming that the WIN2K upgrade and the SQL Server upgrade can not be done at the same time, which would be the better order (and why), upgrading to WIN2K and staying at SQL7 first or upgrading to SQL2000 and staying at NT4? The primary goal is to get the indexed views to improve performance on reports and queries.

I'm running a VB6 app with MDAC 2.8 on Windows Server 2003 SP1.
I create an ADO recordset with a SELECT statement which returns an empty recordset.
I then add 2 new records to it with AddNew and later perform an UpdateBatch.
Before the SQL upgrade it worked fine but now errors with:
'Cannot convert a char value to money. The char value has incorrect syntax.'
I did a SQL Trace to find out what the Updatebatch was actualling sending to SQL (listed below).
This works fine when I run it on Query Analyser using SQL 2000 but fails on SQL 2005.
I worked out the problem is linked to the columns NewValue and OldValue both are varchar 70.
The first insert has them defined varchar(7) and varchar(1). This insert succeeds, but the second insert has the columns defined as varchar(18) and varchar(12). This one fails (unless they only contains numbers!).
I'm confused.
I've read that sp_executesql has changed for SQL2005.
Any ideas anyone?

We have an old 16-bit app that runs fine in SQL 7.0 but on our test SQL 2000 box some reports generate the following error "System Message 10202 - The application fetch buffer size is less than the cursor select statement requires". Any ideas what this means, I am not much of a coder. The MS Knowledge base does not list much on this.

I have installed a dual node active passive W2K3 Clusters with SQL 2K.
The cluster has RAID10 for data and RAID1 for Quorum and Transaction Logs.
How do I put the Transaction logs on the RAID1 disk as at install SQL2K only asks where you would like to put the SQL data ?

-I've been trying assigning from 512 to 750 Mb of RAM to virtual system
-I can install it on host (xp pro) without any problem
-I'm installing it from iso files - so it's not possible something is wrong with cd
-I'm using laptop Lenovo - Core 2 Duo 1,5 Ghz | 1 Gb ram
-I have plenty of space and checked option that says the disk is "dynamically expanding"

I'm the developper of a web application that uses in production environment a SQL Server 2000 db engine.
My devel. environment uses a MSDE.
In order to debug some strange problems, I need to backup the production environment and restore it in MSDE.
The environments doesn't have network connectivity between them.
Somebody can suggest any workaround?

Now we try to change operating system for SQL Server2000 from W2k to W2k3 and we found problem with date format - wereceive error: "Cannot convert date type varchar to datetime".Datetime used in application are sent to SQL Server 2000 in formatYYYY-MM-DD as varchar. (in Query Analyzer all view/query works finebut when application sends it as record source of any forms or storedprocedures it causes error). I'm setting up a new production SQL 2005 64-bit server running on a dedicated Windows 2003 R2 Standard system w/8GB of RAM.
I've enabled the "Lock Pages in Memory" option (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190730.aspx) but when I run dbcc memorystatus all of my AWE counters show 0.
According to http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlprogrammability/:
"On 64 bit machines, execute 'dbcc memorystatus'. If the AWE Allocated memory is 0 then lock pages in memory privilege has not been granted to the service account or it has not taken effect. "
Does the "Lock Pages in Memory" option work on W2K3 R2 Standard? Just searching across the web I find different answers. In some places it clearly says that Lock Pages in Memory only works on W2K3 Enterprise systems. In other places it says that it should work on any Windows 2003 64-bit OS.
Does anyone have any ideas? Assuming we cannot "lock pages in memory" due to the Windows 2003 Standard OS, are there any other memory management recommendations out there?

I have DBA that is convinced that they need domain admin rights to install SQL 2005 into an existing cluster. The domain groups and service accounts for SQL have been created already. Is having domain admin rights required during the install of SQL 2005 in a cluster?

i am in the process of Migrating SQL 2000 to my new SQL2000 server i want to know the what would the best way for me to migrate one SQL server to another SQL server on the same network and rename the new server to the old server and bring it up for use in our ecommerce website.

We are running a test upgrade form sql 2000 standard edition 32 bit to sql 2005 developer edition 32bit. Followed through all the steps and specified the account(SA priveleges and currently used by the 2000 version) and is the local admin on the box for the services and the setup seemed to move fine, except for when it got to the point of installing database services - This is the error message that I got:
MSSQLServer could not be started. Verify you have sufficient priveleges to start system services. The was no choice but to hit cancel and then the set up progressed with a final message of 'SEtup failed'.
Here is a portion of the error log:

I have a client whose DBA upgraded their SQL 2000 database to SQL 2005. They still have it running in 8.0 compatibility mode, for various reasons, and would like me to help them develop a migration strategy to get them to full 9.0 compatibility.
My question is: can I run the Upgrade Advisor on a SQL 2005 engine database running in 8.0 compatibility mode and get anything useful? I already know there will be some issues with existing DTS packages but it would be nice to catch any other issues in advance.
I know that the Upgrade Advisor was run before the upgrade took place but to my knowledge the report was not saved and none of the recommendations were followed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,I have made a web application using SQL Server 2005
Express with a few admin pages that require login. I used the SQL
Server Managment Studio Express to setup users and groups and it works
fine. But the web server has SQL Server 2000 and all I get is a
user id and password to access the database. It seems I cannot use the
Login control I put on my "login.aspx" page becuase it uses the
integrated authentication which chokes on 2000. I am afraid I wonlt be
able to use some of the 2.0 features such as profiles, ... Is
this the way 2.0 works with SQL Server 2000? Should I ditch the ISP if
they only give me a single access to database with no provisions to
create users. (I was told I had to create a "Users" table and manually
assign ids and passwords and that I can only use the user id and
password they supplied to setup the connection string in the script.)I appreciate your help.
Does anyone know when SP1 will be available for SQL2000??

I am developing a Crystal Reports App in VS2005 (VB). I was originally working on an XP machine with MSDE and stored procedures where it worked fine.
I then transferred the development to a Win2003 machine with SQL2000 and am now getting the following error;
Failed to open a rowset. Description: 'Get_Calls_By_MLO_Date' expects parameter '@DT1' which was not supplied. Plus some other error detail.
Here is the SP.

If I transfer everything back to the XP machine it works fine.
