I am doing some replication setup in test environment. Will it be possible
to use the transaction log from a production server to update the test
server? Any reference to any document will also be appreciated.
I know I have to restore most recent backup from the production server to
the test server. and all the transactions after the backup on the production
server has to be run on the test server.
SQL Server 2000, C#, ASP.NET and ADO.NET. I have searched for 3 days trying to figure out why my ADO.NET Transaction executes my stored procedures and runs the .COMMIT() on the server, figured this out by using the SQL Profiler, but the data doesn't show up in the database tables and I recieve no error from SQL or ASP.NET. What gives???? Anyone else ever heard of such a thing. Please help, before I loose my sanity.

Can anyone please help me!...When a transaction is open, the database is getting locked for other user to fetch the records from database.I have to update multiple database table with huge data (Lac). So the transaction will be open for longer period. Mean while if somebody tries to fetch or do select query it give timeout exception. And it does not function until the transaction is closed.How to avoid this database locking for other users. Ok some of the stored procs updated more than one table in which case it makes sense to wrap the code into a transaction. Our stored procs are a little simpler and insert, update or delete only one table for the most part. I am running a vba procedure ( adp file ) that executes successively 5 stored procedures . however it happens that the execution breaks at the middle of the code thus giving a situation where only 2 tables among 5 are updated.
Is it any solution to rollback transactions update already done before the code breaks due to error ?
I was thinking about combining all stored proc on a big one and use Begin transaction - commit transaction and rollback transaction ... however i am not sure wheter updates involving several tables can be handled on one transaction.

I'm getting this when executing the code below. Going from W2K/SQL2k SP4 to XP/SQL2k SP4 over a dial-up link.
If I take away the begin tran and commit it works, but of course, if one statement fails I want a rollback. I'm executing this from a Delphi app, but I get the same from Qry Analyser.
I've tried both with and without the Set XACT . . ., and also tried with Set Implicit_Transactions off.

We have a rather large environment and have just a couple of boxes out there that we are getting cannot begin distributed transaction on inserts and updates but works fine on selects. Inserts and updates work fine outside the begin tran / commit so it's definitely DTC
We have checked the configuration on and the source box is set to No authentication required same for destination.
We have: Verified credentials running the service, changed them, same problem. Uninstalled and re-installed MSDTC per Microsoft instructions.
Have run all the tools for checking DTC DTCPing etc and followed those procedures which typically in the past has resolved any DTC issues. Other than swapping out the offending pc for a new one we are at a loss.

I have a design a SSIS Package for ETL Process. In my package i have to read the data from the tables and then insert into the another table of same structure.
for reading the data i have write the Dynamic TSQL based on some condition and based on that it is using 25 different function to populate the data into different 25 column. Tsql returning correct data and is working fine in Enterprise manager. But in my SSIS package it show me time out ERROR.
I have increase and decrease the time to catch the error but it is still there i have tried to set 0 for commandout Properties.
if i'm using the 0 for commandtime out then i'm getting the Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.

I want to retrieve the last update time of database. Whenever any update or delete or insert happend to my database i want to store and retrieve that time.
I know one way is that i have to make a table that will store the datetime field and system trigger / trigger that can update this field record whenever any update insert or deletion occur in database.

i have a sequence container in my my sequence container i have a script task for drop the existing tables. This seq. container connected to another seq. container. all these are in for each loop container when i run the package it's work fine for 1st looop but it gives me error for second execution.

Hi.. I found my database transaction log keep increasing,, now the mdf is 3GB but the transaction log grow to 35 GB. May I know what is causing the transaction log to grow so big and how to reduce it or clear it?
When I back up the database to a file, it is only 2.5Gb and I transfer to another server and restore, it prompts me disk space is less than enough as transaction log is 35Gb, how to restore without the transaction log ?
We have a SQL database that uses Active Directory with Windows Authentication. Can users that are members of the Active Directory group that has read/write access to the SQL database create ODBC connections to access the database directly and update the data? They dont have individual logins on the server. They are only members of the Active Directory group that has a login?
I had to to relocate the database log file and I issued an Alter database command but by mistake I put a space in the file name as below. The space is at the beginning file name. Now I am unable get the database loaded to SQL Server. The database has 2 replications configured, so deleting and re-attaching the database means the replication needs to be re-configured. Is there an alternative way to issue a command to update the database FILENAME ? Not sure if this can be edited in master database (sys files).

I actually work in an organisation and we have to find a solution about the data consistancy in the database. our partners use to send details to the organisation and inserted directly in the database, so we want to create a new database as a buffer database to insert informations from the partners then make an update to the main database. is there a better solution instead of that?

Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 2 The log file for database 'db_sys' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space.
But I don't know how to back up the transaction log for the database. Do I need TRUNCTE LOG (in E.M) to free up some log space? I only know back up all the database using ALL TASKS -> BACKUP DATABASE in E.M. Please help me. Thanks in advance. TH

I still have transactions in use mainly to set isolation levels. There are obviously no update/delete statements in them. I'm pretty sure this will still add rows to the transaction log even though there won't be any writes to the db data files. Is it still a critical best practice to use RAID 1/0 instead of RAID 5 for the logs? Looking to re-use some existing storage rather than buy new ones. Thoughts?
I have an original database that I want to copy once to another database. Then I want to update the data weekly with the data of the original database. I don€™t change any tables or columns in that part of the database. Just some tables more in the €˜new€™ database (than the tables from the original database) with some references to the tables that have to be updated weekly. How can I do this? (if you know what I mean... it's a sort of a datawarehouse where different sources come together.. that part that represents the original database is just a part of the datawarehouse. That part is exactly the same structure as the original database.)
