Using Triggers To Get Recently Updated Info In SQL Server 2000

Hello all,
I am trying to change values of two tables in my sql server 2000 database. When one of the tables is modified in some way like adding/updating a record, I need a trigger procedure to copy this new data from the first table to the second. Problem is, how do I get the newly inserted or updated data from the first table? How do I specify that I only want the data which caused the trigger to execute? Anyone know?

Good afternoon everyone,
I hope that I am not asking a question which has been answered many times in the past, I did a search but could not find an answer. These may be beginner questions, so bear with me as I am something of a beginner.
This week our organization updated from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. We are using a Microsoft Access front end for this data and the information is entered through forms into the correct tables. When our researchers are enter the information they also have to sometimes search existing information to ensure they do not duplicate what is already in there. For this we use several access queries. This has worked well on the SQL 2000 server without any issues. However, now that we are on 2005 we are starting to recieve ODBC Call fail errors and errors which specify that they are a result of a deadlock. My first question is, are the ODBC call fail errors possibly locks which caused the ODBC connection to time out? My second question is why am I recieving these errors in 2005 but not 2000?

Hello,I am having trouble installing Evaluation copy of SQL Server on mynotebook, which has XP, P4 processor,1G Ram, and 14 G harddisk space.After I run the Setup.exe, I get the files files extracted in theSQLEVAL directory.As per the instruction, I need to run Autorun.exe file. For somereason, when I try to run this file, a new windows pops up, which isblank black screen with cursor flying around in the window. I am new to trigger and I have following question.
I have two tables: "Customer" & "AccountDetails". "Customer" stored customer's personal information, so one customer will be at one row. "AccountDetails" stored all the accounts information which tie to each customer, so there will be multiple rows for a customer since one customer can have mulitple accounts.
Right now I have a updated trigger on "AccountDetails" table. When there is an updated to this table, it will insert some data to another "CustLog" table for logging when customer does the updates. Let's say Customer "A" has 5 accounts. When "A" updates his accounts' information, all 5 rows will be updated, triggers will be called 5 times, and 5 insert rows will be added to "CustLog". Is that any way to keep track those 5 updated on "AccountDetails" are referred to the same customer (by customer ID or so) so that it will only run the trigger once instead of 5 times?
I hope I make it clear and please help me on this! :o

I have a database that has a table with tons of data in it and it is getting close to the 999 days before it starts deleting the oldest records. Is there a way to allow the table to keep all of the information? I don't think there is, so here is my next question. Is there a way that I can move the entire table into another database to save all the information and start over with the 999 days? My main goal here is to not lose ANY information from any table from the database.
Also, I was thinking that when an entry is added into the main table, if it can also be added into the other table where I move the old data? I think a trigger can be used here, but I'm not sure how to do one in 2005. Thank you very much in advance for your help!!!

Can someone help me with the following... My SQL server disk says standard edition on it, my invoice for the license says standard edition (granted it's expired according the license site) but when I go to the machine and right click on the local DB properties it says it's personal edition...
I am confused how this can be.. Any thoughts ?
The only way I figured this out was because we kept getting the you have exceeded your limit of 8 concurent queries...

hi all,
i had a view in my project, i am inserting a record in to that view(View contains a identity key for a column), with in stored procedure i am inserting a record i am not passing the identity key value to the insert statement. The record is getting inserted,Based on the identity key(i am getting the identity key value with Scope_Identity()) and with that value i am inserting records into another two tables.In this scenario every thing is working fine.
but now i am trying to place a trigger(instead of insert trigger) on the view, when i placed,it is not inserting record into first table,so i am not able to get the identity value of that record and process failed.
how can this achived, let me know.

We have trigger on a table. The trigger implementation is to insert a record in another table. If any error occurred in the trigger then the trigger should log the error to a file on the file system.

Problem
If the insert statement fails, for example because of a null violation, then trigger aborts and never reaches the next step in the trigger T-SQL code.
IS this a limitation or there's somthing wrong on the above code?

Hi, I wonder where I can see last update over a table. Maybe sqlserver write some information about every table.
For example there are 300 tables in a database an I want to execute some query to see the last tables updated (list of tables updated > 2008-01-02 )

Hello,I am looking for basic info on installing and using MSDE.I am trying to install and play with MSDE on my PC (Win2000). Ifinally managed to work my way through installation, and namedinstances but I am finding no information on how to simply START thedatabase engine and get to a sql prompt! I have manually started theMSSQL and SQLAGENT services, and tried running sqlservr.exe andosql.exe (just guessing) without success. Can anyone refer me to adocument that gives this BASIC information!?

I'm aware that when bulk loading to a SQL 2005 database through an OLE DB Destination, you can enable the FIRE TRIGGERS option. Is this option available when your database target is SQL 2000? I can't find it in the Properties or other windows.

I've got a big problem that I'm trying to figure out:I have an address table out-of-which I am trying to select mailing addresses for companies UNLESS a mailing address doesn't exist; then I want to select the physical addresses for that company. If I get multiple mailing or physical addresses returned I only want the most recently edited out of those.I don't need this for an individual ID select, I need it applied to every record from the table.My address table has some columns that look like:
[AddressID] [int][LocationID] [int][Type] [nvarchar](10)[Address] [varchar](50)[City] [varchar](50)[State] [char](2)[Zip] [varchar](5)[AddDate] [datetime][EditDate] [datetime]AddressID is a primary-key non-null column to the address table and the LocationID is a foreign key value from a seperate Companies table.So there will be multiple addresses to one LocationID, but each address will have it's own AddressID.How can I do this efficiently with perfomance in mind???Thank you in advance for any and all replies...

Hello,
Is there any ability to do database-level triggers in SQL 2000? I have a SQL 2000 database, and I was asked if we could create a trigger that whenever anyone touches the data in a database, to create an entry in an event log? If not, I have a main table I can put a trigger on; however, my question is how do you write to a file in a trigger as well?

Hi,I want to save the last modification date when the row is updated. I have a column called "LastModification" in the table, every time the row is update I want to set the value of this column to the current date. So far all I know is that I need to use a trigger and the GetDate() function, but could any body help me with how to set the value of the column to getdate()? thanks for your help.

I want to be able to see when records have been added to a table. The issue is we have a DTS job scheduled to run every night. The developer who wrote it password protected it and doesn't work here anymore. I want to add a step to this series of DTS jobs and want to run it just prior to his job. Is there a way to see when the records are being added or when this job is being run? Thanks again, you guys are the best.
