Using Name From File As Data Column In Destination
Sep 18, 2007
I have been searching for the answer to something I thought would be easy to find. But, no luck.
I need to load a csv file into a SQL Server table. The rub is that I need to also parse the filename for a couple of pieces of data also.
Example filename: c:importCustomerX_LocationY_1234.csv
For each record in the csv file I will call a stored procedure the has a parameter for each column in the file plus a parameter for the customer name and a colummn for the location name.
I assume that I will need to use a Script Component to parse the filename fro the information. What is not clear is how I get the filename from the csv connection object and how to get to result of the script component to the inputs of the OLE DB command component that I am using to call the stored procedure.
I have succeeded in using the Derived Column component to put constant values in for the customer and location. But, I cannot figure out how to get to the next step of deriving those two values from the input filename.
I created a ssis package which exports the data from oledb source to flat file (csv format). For this i have OLEDB source and Flat File as destination. I generate the file and filename dynamically with the column names in the first row. So if the dynamically generated file name already exists , then i want to append the data in the same existing file. But I dont want to append the column names again. I just want to append the rows to the existing rows.
so lets say first time i generate a file called File1_3132008.csv.
Col1, Col2 1,2 3,4
After some days if my ssis package generates the same file name i.e. File1_3132008.csv, this time i just want to append the rows to the existing file. So the file should look like this- Col1, Col21,23,45,67,8
But instead my file looks like this if i set Overwrite propery to false
Col1,Col2 1,2 3,4 Col1,Col2 5,6 7,8
Can anyone help me to get the file as shown in the highlighed
Hi, I was wondering how I can complete a column (which doesnt have an input one) with data. For example:
I have a sql query which bring data of 3 columns
ID | FISRT NAME | LAST NAME 1 MIKE MORGAN 2 SARA JOHANES
So, I will insert that data in a FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, which I configured with 3 columns and I did the corresponding mapping in the FLAT FILE DESTINTATION.
Now, If I add one more column in the FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, I will not have it mapped to a input one, obviously. So, what I need is to add one more column to the flat file destination and complete it with zeros values in it.
Probably I can solve this part by introducing a DERIVED COLUMN and there I can configure the zeros that I want to add to the column. But I'm not sure if I can do that without having a input column. So, the question will be, how can I add one column to a flat file which doesnt have a input and introduce any value that I want to it? Hope I was clear Thanks for your help.
I am running my package in sql server 2012, in which i am giving network path for flat file destination. And its working fine. But if i give m local path, its giving me error " cannot open data file" ...
how do I make the output columns padded with extra space ? I intentionally set my output width larger than the input width, but the generated file is still jamming all the columns next to each other
I am transferring data from an OLEDB source to a Flat File Destination and I want the column width for all of the output columns to 30 (max width amongst the columns selected), but that is not refected in the Fixed Width Flat File that got created. The outputcolumnwidth seems to be the same as the inputcolumnwidth. Is there any other setting that I am possibly missing or is this a possible defect?
I have a simple enough task to complete that I cant seem to find the answer to.
The task is this
Select table x from the database and write it to a flat file complete with that tables column headings.
Now Ive managed to set up an ole db datasource and selected the table and Ive also linked it to the flat file output. So now I can generate a flat file from the database. However no column headings appear in the flat file.
I cant seem to find anywhere (like a checkbox) that will also output the column headings to the flat file.
Now I can add in Headings manually in the properties of the Flat File Destination object but the columns that appear in the flat file dont appear to be in the order that I requested them in the SQL.
So the question is how do I automatically have the column headings appear for flat file output (ideally without me having to manually add them in).
If it cant be done and I have to use a vb.net script instead then would anyone have an example script of how to do it?
Thanks in advance for anyone who manages to answer this.
TABLE_NAME DESC CODE tab1 table1 A tab1 table1 B tab1 table1 C tab2 table2 D tab2 table2 E tab2 table2 G...
First column values are table names which are already exists in target database. Next two columns[Desc],[Code] data gets populate from CSV file to table.
In this scenario, how to load tab1 data into the same table in destination and so on.
Which way will be more standard to accomplish this task? If its a script task using C#, looking for clear script to identify a value changes in the first column.
I have a flat file destination that Im sending data to, from an OLE DB data source. There are two records, but for some reason they are both going on the same line in the output. This is after setting the output to fixed width, from comma delimited.
[Flat File Destination [46500]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column 0" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page." What does this error mean exactly?
I am taking columns from a flat file source. Then I am adding some new columns then rewriting the file to a ragged file format with fixed column values. I've taken the Destination component off and it works fine. So I know it could be the destination component but what could it be? Any ideas?

I have a package that does simple exporting from an excel sheet to a table. I used a Dataflow task with Excel Source and OLEDB Destination Components. And i created Package configurations for Source and Destination Components. After than when i execute the package i get the following error.

OLE DB source which calls a stored proc that returns a result set

Excel destination I am in design mode in Business Intelligence studio. My excel destination (with an Excel Connection) shows no sheet name though I have an execute SQL task before the data flow to create the excel table called SHEET1. Needless to say, there are no output columns visible to do any mappings. I did go to the ExcelConnection to set the OpenRowset Property to SHEET1 but it seems to have no effect.
I can do the export in SQL Server Management studio and that works fine, but it is basic and does not meet my requirements. I have to customize the package to allow dynamic Excel filenames based on account names and have to split my result set into multiple excel sheets because excel 2003 has a max of 65536 rows per sheet. Also when I use the export wizard, I have the source as a table and eventually the source has to be a stored proc with input parms.
What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks in advance
I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.
I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.
I hope someone can help me work through this.
Thanks in advance,
SK

Hi everyone, I am using SSIS, and I got the folowing error, I am loading several CSV files in a OLE DB, Becasuse the file is finishing and the tak dont realize of the anormal termination, making an overflow. So basically what i want is to control the anormal ending of the csv file. please can anyone help me ???

I want to load data that i receive everydays from my customers in .xls file format (excel) or cvs file format, to the database that i have created on this purpose. but when trying to do that whith SSIS; i got an error message .... that i can't import redudant data in my database column.
Hey all - got a problem that seems like it would be simple (and probably is : )
I'm importing a csv file into a SQL 2005 table and would like to add 2 columns that exist in the table but not in the csv file. I need these 2 columns to contain the current month and year (columns are named CM and CY respectively). How do I go about adding this data to each row during the transformation? A derived column task? Script task? None of these seem to be able to do this for me.
Here's a portion of the transformation script I was using to accomplish this when we were using SQL 2000 DTS jobs:
' Copy each source column to the destination column Function Main() DTSDestination("CM") = Month(Now) DTSDestination("CY") = Year(Now) DTSDestination("Comments") = DTSSource("Col031") DTSDestination("Manufacturer") = DTSSource("Col030") DTSDestination("Model") = DTSSource("Col029") DTSDestination("Last Check-in Date") = DTSSource("Col028") Main = DTSTransformStat_OK End Function *********************************************************** Hopefully this question isnt answered somewhere else, but I did a quick search and came up with nothing. I've actually tried to utilize the script component and the "Row" object, but the only properties I'm given with that are the ones from the source data.
I have a stored proc I am updating in an OLEDB Command from the results of a Transform Script Component. The Stored Proc has over 65 input parameters, most of them have a NULL passed in. I dont want to create output columns in the Transform Script Component for all of them to map them from the "Available Input Columns" to "Available Destination Columns".
I want to create 3 or 4 generic Output columns for their data type - say IntegerOutput (datatype Int), DateTimeOut (datatype datetime) and so on. The I want to map these generic columns in the OLEDB Command as Available Input Columns" to multiple "Available Destination Columns" - wherever the datatype matches the input column.
But the OLEDB Command Column Mappings let me map One to One only. This will create a huge and unnecessary workload for me to develop and maintain - when I tell you I have 3 such stored procedures, all of whose interfaces are exactly same and for which I can create similar Output columns in the Transform Script Component.
Need to know how I can get the dynamic filename created in the FlatFile destination for insert into a package audit table?
Scenario: Have created a package that successfully outputs Dynamiclly named flat files { Format: C:Test’Comms_File_’ + ‘User::FileNumber’+’_’+Date +’.txt’
E.g.: Comms_File_1_20150724.txt, Comms_File_2_20150724.txt etc} using Foreach Loop Container :
* Enumerator Set to: “Foreach ADO Enumerator” with the ADO object source variable selected to identify how many total loop iterations there are i.e. Let’s say 4 thus 4 files to be created
*Variable Mappings : added the User::FileNumber – indicates which file number current loop iteration is i.e. 1,2,3,4
For the DataFlow task have a OLDBSource and a FlatFile Destination where Flat File ConnectionString is set up as:
I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination. In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:
Data as of: 08/25/2015
if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same Data as of: 08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).
I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of: 08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:
08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package runs only once.
How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of: 08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.
I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.
Currently, this is what I have: FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank
For Each Loop Container Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.
Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(User::FileDestinationPath?).Value = dts.Variables(User::FileDestinationPath?).Value & ? Month & _? & Day & _? & Year & ?) which gives me C:TestFiles 9_14_2006?.
File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.
Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that days date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I cant hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the Variable FileNameAndLocation? is used as a source or destination and is empty.?
Let me know if I need to clarify further...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have to value [CreateDate] in the data pump of my Flat File Source into my OLE DB Destination SQL Server Table. With a Variable within the SSIS Package or with a Derived Column task within the Data Flow between the Flat File Source and OLE DB Destination?
1. Flat File Source 2. Conditional Split, Case Good = !ISNULL(KEY) Case Error = ISNULL(KEY) 3. Case Good -> Writes to Good Flat File (with timestamp in the title) 4. Case Error -> Writes to Error Flat File (with timestamp in the title)
Most job runs have no errors but the error file is created as a zero byte file anyway. If there are no error records I don't want the error file created. How might I accomplish this?
Col 9 is char (2) and Col10 is char (34). It is this column that needs to be broken up into several columns depending on the value in Col 9.
Col1 to Col3 is the key to the record.
So say if record 1 has Col 9 value 'AA' then Col10 ( 34 bytes) is to be spilt into 10+10+10+4 (four columns). The value 'AA' can repeat for several records and the value in Col 10 can change for the same value 'AA'.
Now say record 27 has Col 9 value 'BB' then Col 10 is to be split as 5+25+4 (3 columns).
There are 15 such unique values of Col 9. I have the file layouts for Col 10 for each distinct value of Col 9. So using the file layouts and Table A which exists in my database how do I proceed.
Need I make 15 tables ( one each for the 15 unique Col 9 values). These structure Col1..Col2..Col3...Col9 (the key fields and Col 9) will be common to every table. Plus the file layouts will serve as additional columns specific to each of these tables.
I am testing SSIS and have created a Flat File Destination. I defined the Flat File Connection as New for the first time and it worked fine. Now, I would like to go back and modify the Flat File Connection in the Flat File Destination Editor, but it allows only to create a New connection rather allowing me to edit the existing one. For testing, I can go back and create a new connection, but if my connection had 50-100 columns then it would be an issue to re-create it from scratch.
Is it possable to have control which name the flatfile has? F.ex. have the same process created files with the name: filename_2008-01-01 filename_2008-01-02 filename_2008-01-03
I have worked with straight-forward simplistic SSIS up to now, so I apologize if this is a simple question. I have a SQL table destination that accepts daily data from an AS400 table. We now have a need to datestamp the incoming data so I added a new column to the destination table where I want today's date. Is there a data flow transformation that I need to use to default the destination column to today's date? Time is not a consideration and not needed, just the date.
I just wanted to insert only SubjectIds into my table 'Subjects' which has the follwing schama ignoring the classes The row delimeter is " " and the column delimeter is ' | '
Table Subjects {
ID (Autoincrement) SubjectId varchar(20) }
Can any one provide the format file for doing this or suggest anyway to do this? Please do note that the file may contain millions of records
