Using Reporting Services For Multiple Clients (databases)
May 8, 2007
Hi!
We have multiple databases (1 per client) and we want to use reporting services for ad-hoc reporting. Our authentication is done by using client's database so security is custom.
What is the best way to set this up? Is it possible to somehow allow users/admins to use only their database and never see any others? I know we can install a separate instance of RS and do that but I am wondering if there is a better way to run multiple clients doing different reports using exclusively their databases without having to create a new instance.
I have created a new SSRS Server and done all of the basic security setup for the site but I am having trouble with client machine access...At first I had an issue with being able to access report manager from any client and ended up having to shut off windows authentication on the client IE settings to get it to work. Now I am trying to run Report Builder from a client machine and it will not download. The client machine is on the same domain and my user id is set as an administrator within SSRS and as a local admin on the 2008 server.
I had the thought that without windows auth in the browser maybe it can't permit me access to the application but if I turn it on I can't get to it to download it. I have set Full Control rights to the folder as well. Most of the info out there is for 2005 and that uses IIS to host the pages where as 2008 does not. Here is the details of the error:
PLATFORM VERSION INFO Windows : 6.1.7600.0 (Win32NT) Common Language Runtime : 2.0.50727.4927 System.Deployment.dll : 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) mscorwks.dll : 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) dfdll.dll : 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900) dfshim.dll : 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)
We are in the design phase of a project where it is estimated there will be 150 SQL Server databases - each one housing similar information on each of 150 client sites. The client needs a reporting tool to analyze and make comparisons across databases. We were thinking about a using a data warehouse. Does SQL Server have a native solution to this type of problem ? Or is there another, better way to approach this ?
Hey all. Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I am needing to combine data from about 3 different databases into 1 ad hoc report. I know that you can include multiple datasets, but I need this to act as 1 dataset so that the table data between all databases are related to one another.
I know very little about the potential of analysis services / integration services, so I don't know if they contain the answer to my problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion of how I should approach this problem (as always, speed is a bit of a consideration here as well).
I am in the process of creating a Report, and in this, i need ONLY the row groups (Parents and Child).I have a Parent group field called "Dept", and its corresponding field is MacID.I cannot create a child group or Column group (because that's not what i want).I am then inserting rows below MacID, and then i toggle the other rows to MacID and MacID to Dept.
I'm new to SSRS. I've installed SQL Server 2014 on my Windows 7 machine and logged in web interface at localhost/Reports, created data source with ODBC driver connecting to my PostgreSQL database, I've selected "Credentials stored securely in the report server" and provided login and password. Now I wanted to create some test report. So I clicked on Report Builder which launched a desktop application (not ideal I must say) where I tried to click through a wizard to create some report.
I tried table wizard, selected "Create a dataset" and selected my data source. It asked me to provide password again and then I got following error:
ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
Even though test connection works just fine, even from that very same window.
So my questions are:
How do I fix that issue so I could create reports using SSRS and my PostgreSQL database? How do I embed the user/password into connection so users don't have to re-enter the password? The reason is, I want to create data source through SSRS API from my own application and I don't want to have users be bothered with passwords
Just to clarify - I tried creating ODBC data source through admin tools in Control pannel and gave it the same name but it didn't work, both SQL Server and PostgreSQL are installed on the same machine.
We have a system that uses 3 databases, one for Membership db standard MS membership only the application has access to that data, one with User Data which we would like to make multi-tenant using Schema-Separation, and a third read-only reference db which is Common Market data for all users.we anticipate Tenant numbers in the thousands.Current we have multiple queries which create joins between the Main db and the Reference database using something like
Selec S.*, M.ScheduleDate, M.substation from Sites S left outer join Market.dbo.MarketUnit M where S.MarketUnitID = M.MarketUnitID
i'm planning to have a new schema for each Tenant on the Main Database, so I would create a Schema T1 for the first customer, a user T1User with access to T1 schema. and grant T1User access to Market.dbo. My First question is are there any concerns about the above T1User setup? My second question is, are there any tools which would automate the setup of the multi-tenant with schema separation, or should I just script the whole Main Database schema creation and replace schema name globally and then execute the script?
My Third question, how about upgrade and updates... currently using VS to compare dev/qa/prod database to identify changed which need to be promoted, and pushing updates... this could be a big pain to promote code to thousands of Schemas. grantedwe will likely keep the overall number of schemas spread over different SQL servers.
I have a SQL Server 2005 Express database that was designed to be used by one client. What is the best way to change the design so it can contain multiple clients that can only see data entered by users of each client organization? Also I'm using the asp.net membership database to handle login and profiles. Can this be used with my multi client database?
Hi all,I've got a question concerning synchronization of multiple database clients.Consider a database, accessed by two clients. Is it guarantted, that ifclient 1 succefully commits a transaction, client 2 _instantly_ sees thechanges made by client 1?thx and regards,StephanP.S..: For MS Jet databases I know there _is_ a delay between writing datato the database and being able to read this updated value from anotherconnection,so the question refers to "real" DBMs (esp. SQL Server) only ;)
We have a situation where multiple-random client connections to SQL server get disconnected.
The workstations are not consistent, the time is not consistent, and the functions being run are not consistent. One thing that we can reproduce is that sometime, but not always, if a workstation runs a function that calls a specific stored procedure (SQL native client, ADO, SQL Server 2005 SP2), during the course of the parameter validation (after the .execute) SQL sends an ACK, RST followed by two RST TCP packet back to the client and disconnects the connection.
At the same time, several other connections across multiple computers are also dropped by SQL. However, some computers may have multiple connections to SQL and some, but not all of these will be dropped. Other computers will not have their connections dropped at all.
No SQL server errors are logged. Trace flags 4029 and 3689 have been set.
We have the network packet traces and the SQL profiler output to show this.
This is not reproducable at any other site.
Any ideas on what this could be would be greatly appreciated. -- Dana Comolli MS ISV Partner
I've been running SQL Server 2005 for over three months, and have got the database up to speed. Using SSMSE for an interface.
I've have been trying to get the Intranet to link to the database (ASP), but after a little research i found we needed to change the Authentication from 'Windows Authentication' to a mix of windows auth and sql login. Needing to restart the server for the changes to take effect.
After the restart things started to go pear shaped.
Before the restart we were able to run queries from different clients at the same time (4 workstations). Now we are unable to access anything on the database if a query is running on a seperate client. As in table properties, running a query. As i've said, we were able to do this perfectly fine before the restart.
We also use other programs to generate records for the database. These programs now have difficulty connecting to the database. We've gone through the wizards and as far as we are aware things should be working. We have created extra username/logins for these programs so not one computer/client/program uses the same connection login. However, they are unable to connect even after the wizard says there is no problem connecting to the server.
Is there any *restore to factory/default settings* button? We've even tried reverting to Windows Authentication to try and solve the problem, but it didn't work, we're pretty dependant on the database for day to day operations.
Hi Everyone,I have one database file which needs to be accesable to both a .net website and a vb.net application. The application collects data from the 'real world', processes it and adds the data to the database. The Website reads data from the database and displays the data in a graphical format. Now for the problem; While the Application is connected to the database (adding data), the Website is denied acces to the database. All connections to the DB are disposed when the Application is not uploading data, but the Website continues to be locked out (making it pretty useless) Closing the Application makes the Website work fine, but of course this means no 'real world' data can be updated. Can anyone suggest what is happening here, and more importantly how to fix it? A walkthrough must be available for this problem somewhere,... I just can't find it :(Thanks all,*The Stressed One*
I have a system use MS SQL 2005 & .NET 2.0, my tables don't have rowversion, but I heard SQL 2005 manage a rowversion by itself, can I use this to do a "ConflictDetection".All I try to do is I want to get a error when I try to update a row which been modified by someone else after I read row. Thanks.
I have a script that needs to be run for 50 different @ClientID. I dont want to run this script individually for each clientid. Would 'SET @clientID in (111, 222, 333) work? I've been told that it wouldn't. Short version of the script is.....
I think I will have a problem with Id’s when I do merge replication. The problem is, I have several clients (local shops) who can do additions to a (Customer) table. Other tables will link to that table (things that a customer buys) with their foreign key, so the id of this table is very important. Now, twice a day that table with customers is merged from all clients to the central server. (the table with things that the customer buys, does not needs to be merged as it only remains local).
Possible problem: if we assign ranges to identifiers for each client (thus local shop), which will be the best option we found until so far, how can we then detect the doubles? (with doubles, we mean that when the same customer is added in two local shops for a first time, then we will have the same customer twice in the central database)(afterwards, when we delete one customer row in the central database, we might have a id conflict when we merge back to the clients -as a customer might have already bought some goods at the two different shops meanwhile-)
What’s the common practice to resolve this? (we need to do Merge Replication, because during the day, our local shops are disconnected from the central server)
Hello,I'm looking into offering a custom data driven web app that I wrote for an organization that I'm apart of to other similar organizations. I would be hosting the data and web application code on my dedicated server. This application is using the membership api supplied in .NET 2.0 and also has my own custom data tables within it.My question is what would be the best way to add clients to this? Should I simply create a new database for each new client like so: ACME_Database, ABC_Database, AAA_Database etc. Or should I add some sort of client "Tag" (tag meaning column within each datatable) to these databases and then update my SQL queries to process them accordingly. I imagine I could do both but I guess I need some advice from people that already had experiance with providing this kind of service. Thanks!Jason
I want to show my reports in different language . For this i have added a parameter Language on the report that contain all the language . Now i want to change all the captions of Report and parameter list in selected language .
I've developed SSIS package and able to Launch and Execute dtsx package using Web Service/Console application. If I run it from my local it has no issues. If I ask my client to run this web service it is throwing error "Unable to connect to remote server".
If I ask my client to directly run the package itself they get following error "AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager failed"...
Even after my client having SQL Server, Integrations Service and BIDS installed on his machine he gets the above error. How to set this up. SQL Sever Agent is not an option for us.
I have a group of reports that are the same for 3 different companies, the difference is the data connection. Is there a way I can change the data connection based on a variable passed in at the time of report execution?
Hi everyone, I'm very new to SQL and SQL Reporting Services. However I've been given a task.
How do I save multiple reporting services reports onto a predetermined location on a users local pc? Are there tools/applications that can be used to push files onto the users local pc?
The application uses .NET but they've created reports using SQL Reporting Services. The user will select which report they want (out of 2). My task is to figure out how can we save those reports that they have selected onto their pc?
I have a table with the following fields and data:
Offense, Year, Month, Count, Amount F 2007 January 11 $49,238.00 F 2007 February 12 $24,000.00 F 2007 March 31 $55,184.00 F 2007 April 19 $64,647.00 F 2007 May 33 $100,010.00 F 2007 June 16 $59,678.00 F 2007 July 22 $39,700.00 F 2007 August 3 $9,000.00 F 2007 September 4 $75,000.00 F 2007 October 8 $19,250.00 F 2007 November 50 $106,153.00 F 2007 December 26 $80,000.00
I have data for years 2007-2014. I am designing an SSRS report, and want to use IIF statement to return data. Using the following:
=IIF(Fields!Year.Value="2007" AND Fields!Month.Value="February", "return value of count field", "n/a")
The above does not work, it doesn't return the value of Count field, it does return the n/a.
I'm building a report that has a column in the table called countries of origin, that column can contain data like "USA","China" ( normal countries) but some rows can also contain "USA, China, Australia" ( multiple counties in one row).
I'm trying to build a filter to filter my results :
-I have a data set created with a list of all world countries
-I've Build a Parameter containing a drop down list with all countries
--- My problem is when I want to create the filter in my main data set , I can so it , but when I search for example for "USA" , I don't get the lines where there are multiple countries and "USA" is one of them...
There must be an expression in the filter that will be able to search through all the values in the string and return me my correct results.
I'm using Reporting Services 2008 R2, version 10.50.2550.0, and Visual Studio 2008, version 9.0.30729.4462 QFE. Not sure if the SQL version matters, since I haven't gotten the report out of the development environment.I've read lots of messages, including URL.... that show you can have multiple data entries per row in a Range Bar Chart, simply by turning DrawSideBySide to False. My data set basically contains four pieces of data, LineNumber, Equipment, StartTime and EndTime. I have data like:
(I actually have a date with my datetime entries, but that should give you the idea.) My chart is set up with Values of EndTime and StartTime. If I set my chart up with only Equipment in the Category Groups entry, my chart will show CLM1 from 08:00-08:30, and SS1 from 08:05 to 08:35. No sign of the other entries per equipment, although I added a tablix to retrieve the same data and it all shows up.Changing DrawSideBySide between True, False and Auto has no effect on the data displayed on my chart. If I add StartTime in the Category Groups, I do show all the data, but one row for each piece of data, which isn't what the customer wants. From what I can tell from various sites, I'm set up right, but it just isn't working.
I have a SSRS report with a Parameter that lets you choose the name of an employee. The report lists their Name, Number, User ID etc.
When you select a single employee, the filter on the Dataset works perfectly. However once you select two or more employee names, it only returns the first result.
I need to know how, and if, possible to create a multiple value parameter in SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services. I need this for a client of mine. Any help/tips/etc will be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking to build a report that is basically a series of line charts that is plotting a value over time. I can accomplish this one chart/dataset at a time, but I believe with 'List's this can be achieved in a more automated fashion. If I have some data similar to this:
I want the charts grouped by the Area_ID, and then each Location_Name is a Series in that chart. So in this example, I would end up with 2 charts (Areas 1 & 2), each have 2 series (Area 1: Site1, Site2 and Area 2: Site3, Site4)Is it possible to build this with a list? or do I need to structure the data differently?
Using a single multi select parameter I want to show/hide 5 tablix's I have in my SSRS 2008 report. Inside the parameter I want to give each tablix a value a have user control which tablix he wants to see. If user selects all 5 he should be able to see all 5 or if he selects only 4 then display only the 4 tablix's user selected or select's only 3 then display only 3 so on so forth.
How to configure the parameter and hidden expression of the tablix.
I have done this several times before but somehow unable to make it work this time around.
select ast.AssetId, fu.ParentDescription from dbo.asset ast inner join tblPatchViaFU FU ON ast.AssetId = fu.Assetid where fu.ParentFUId IN (@IMO)
In tblPatchViaFU table column [ParentFUid] is int datatype
***** Dataset for Parameter "IMO" ******
SELECT DISTINCT ParentFUId ParentFUId , ParentDescription IMOfficer FROM [dbo].[tblPatchViaFU] WHERE ParentName = 'Income Patch'
***** @IMO Parameter ******
Datatype : Integer Allow multiple values
Available Values Dataset : IMO Value Field : ParentFUId Label Field : IMOfficer
The report runs perfectly fine for 1 parameter value but the moment I select more than one it fails with the error message "Error converting data type nvarchar to int."
