Using The Database Access Concept In SQLsrvr 2000 To SQLsrvr 2005
Mar 6, 2008
In SQL Server 2000, when i install a client connection only, it also install the enterprise manager, just by adding/register new SQL server. there you can access all the tables. but in SQL Server 2005 how can I achieve that? Coz when i only install the client tool for SQL Server 2005 it only enables to connect to database, not accessing it freely and sql server management studio not included.
Has anyone ever seen a situation where SQLSRVR.EXE starts gobbling RAM when under load but does not seem to release it (as seen by mem usage under Task Manager or the related PerfMon counters?) I am running a test of 4 client applications that are hammering against the server but when I check the stats memory is consumed up to the maximum - when I halt the client applications and reduce the processing load to zero the usage stats still show the SQL engine as holding the memory.
I'm running a copy of SQL 7.0 EE on Win2K Advanced Server, using a Compaq 8500 w/ 750MB RAM.
I am running into a problem loggin into SQLsrver 7.0 using 'sa' account but works fine admin account(NT acct)
I have installed sqlsrvr 7.0 on win2k - server standard edition. Installed SQLserver using NT domain account. I have created a username 'sa' with admin previleges. When I try to login with sa, login fails in the enterprise manager. ?
I tried to re-install the server7.0 using local account, again unable to login with 'sa' account in the enterprise manager
Appreciate if you could shed some lights on this issue
We are running SQL 2005 SP2 x64 on Windows 2003 SP2 X64.
Server specs: Quad Core, each core runs at 2.33Ghz. 4GB memory OS and SQL on RAID 1 set Transaction log on RAID 1 set Databases on RAID 5 set
-The SQL service account is a domain account with the "lock pages in memory" rights. -The min memory use for sql server is 3000MBand the maximum is 2147483647MB.
For whatever reason, the sqlsrvr.exe process uses much less physical memory than the Virtual Memory (VM). When I look at the Task manager, I see 230MB for Mem Usage column and 300MB for VM size column under full workload. Why is the SQL server process being paged out? I have 3GB for it to use. Should I be concerned about the my SQL server?
I didn't configure the AWE as MS doesn't recomment using it on x64 bit systems. When I do "dbcc memorystatus", I get the following:
VM Reserved 4269536 VM Committed 196680 AWE Allocated 0 Reserved Memory 1024 Reserved Memory In Use 0
I thought granting "lock pages in memory" rights to the sql service account automatically enables AWE in x64 bit version of SQL 2005 standard server.
Before going in to details i like to understand more about concept anddesign of this database. Most books go directly in to details. Please, can a current admistrator gife me information on this? Thanks in advance,Dick vd Spek email: Join Bytes!
I access the sql 2000 db's . Now, the dbs have been moved to 2005. Is it possible to connect to sql 2005 db from sql enterprise manager 2000. Or let me know if I have to upgrade to 2005 to access the same.
I get the error message To connect to the server you must use sql server management studio or sql server management objects(SMO) when trying to access the server from sql enterprise manager 2000.
Usually it is not possible to access higher version dbs from a lower version.
Please help me out as soon as possible as this is very urgent.

Probably this question has been asked hundreds of times and yet netsearch has not generated satisfactory enough answer, at least, to me.And OK, let's assume your organization has more than 200 employees, just one measure to indicate that it's not small and data processingneeds are quite extensive (for both OLTP and OLAP).We've heard so much about concurrency support, stability andperformance. Are there any real persuasive paper out there to talkabout it? Now, let me also put it in another perspective, say, you'rea Microsoft sql server sales guy or gal for that matter for newaccounts. What you got? Thanks.
I've downloaded the migration tool to convert an Access 2000 DB to a SQL DB. The VB code utilizes DAO (3.6) for hourly automatic compaction and the creation of an encrypted security database. ADO is used for the data maintenance functions. I expect the current connection methodology of ODBC using Jet 4.0 will need to be modified (many articles here address this). All the SQL code is inline and also must be modified. The Coldfusion code utilizes Micrsoft Access with Unicode via an ODBC connection with only SQL Select statements. At another job, I migrated an Informix 7 database to MS SQL 7 and for the most part the SQL code remained the same except for the wildcard spec from * to %.
I'm looking for insights and/or shortcuts on this effort, primarily in the SQL command mods area. I'm perusing the threads here as we speak, but hoped someone knew of a specific thread I could go to....laziness is alive and well for us chronologically gifted people, i.e. over 55.
My company is planning to purchase a SQL2005 standard Processor license (unlimited users - about $5000)
Does anyone know if we can obtain SQL2000 media along with the purchase. Because of the app we are running and its stage of development, we have to install and run SQL2000 for about 6 months before we can run Sql2005. We dont want to purchase SQL2000 for such a short term use.
I asked a DELL rep to help me with this over a month ago and he still has no answers for me.
We have SBS2003 and SQL2000 is running on it. Recently we built a trips database and Installed trips application on it but the problem is that only the administrator can run Trips application. Other domain users cannot get access to the new trips program. I added the users on database and double checked.
When normal user logs on, these messages show up:
Message 1: "MS sql Server login Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 Microsoft ODBC SQL Server Driver DBNETLIB ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error:17 Microsoft OBDC SQL Server Driver DBNETLIB SQL Server does not existor denied."
Message 2: "File dbo.control could not be opened. Error (r=100). Press OK to end this application."
After restoring a database to a new server running SBServer 2003 with SQL 2000, I can access the database with any of the users accounts from the desktop of the server. When I try to attach to the database from a workstation on the network i receice the error "user nae does not exist". Any help will be appreciated.
I'm using JDBC driver for Server 2005 (version 1.1.1501) to access Server 2000. I have no problems reading my data, but every update returns "Cursor is READ ONLY".
If I use driver for Server 2000 I have no problems. And I have no problems running the same program with 2005 driver against SQL Server Express.
Hi I have problem in configuring my web project on Window server 2000. I have created the web application using Visual Studio 2005 tools. I have configured Window server 2000 with the .Net Framework Version 2.0. I can access the page which doesn't have database access. The connection string in the web config file is giving me the problem that connection string can't be found. Does any one have any idea? My database connection string looks like this. <connectionStrings> <add name="etzAusBldConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=CASCADE;Initial Catalog=etzAusBldBaseData1;User ID=sa1;Password=****" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> Moe
I have managed to transfer the SQL SERVER 2000 database tables to access database by using DTS. But how can I transfer stored procedures in SQL SERVER to Access 2000
How can i transfer a database from Access to Sql Server 2000?
Exactly : i want to transfer a .mdb into .mdf, and i want to keep the structure of .mdb, a structure which have tables, queries, macros, modules... When i start the transfer with Data Transformation Services ( DTS- Import Data ) , i can see that DTS shows me only tables and queries. At the end of transfer, in my .mdf database, on server, i have only tables, without queries, macros, modules.
My question is how can i transfer the queries and macros ( exactly how are in .mdb ) to .mdf database?
I have an Access 2000 Database which I am upsizing to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Database has 29 tables and 60 stored queries. Each time I upsize to SQL Server the tables come in fine but non of the queries are imported.
All of the queries are very simple Select, Insert, Update and Delete Queries with nothing special in them.
I have tried using the upsizing wizard in Access 2003 and also the SQL Server 2005 Migration Assistant for Access.
Is there anything special I need to do in the migration assistant to ensure that the queries are imported as well.
I have upsized an Access database into SQL Server and manged to getthe data in place ok. The wizard created an Access Project which Ihave started to modify. However, I am also trying to get data from an AS/400. Specifically fora currency/exchange rate file. I only want ot copy the records sincethe last copy otherwise there are a vast number of records.I have created a linked server to the AS/400 within SQL Server, andcreated a view, within my specific database which allows me to look atall the data in the table. However, my problem is that I want a VB routine, in the AccessProject, which lets me copy out specic records from the view into atable within the SQL Server database. Any clues?????My oroginal code used a link to the AS/400 and the folowing code:-s = "INSERT into zacjdf00 "s = s + "select CJCNCD, CJD5E9, CJCUCD, CJD5FF, CJD5FG, CJD5FH,CJD5FI, CJD5FJ, CJD5FK "s = s + "from XGHLDTM_ZACJDF00 "s = s + "where "s = s + "CJD5E9 = '" & group & "'"DoCmd.RunSQL (s)group is preset in the VB code.
I need detailed instructions on how to connect to a database from a Microsoft Access 2007 database to a Microsft Office Accounting 2007 database. The accounting database is an SQL 2005 datbase. It has an instance name of "MSSMLBIZ".
When I try I get an SQL error 53. Do not have permissions or database does not exist.
Is there any way to maintain audit trail of access to my SQL server 2000 database by any user ?? I need to log the timestamp of any insert/update/delete to any record in a table within the database by the user.
I am trying to write some admin only procedures which will collect information to one of my development server from other production and development servers.
I have created linked servers to access these other servers on the development server. This development server is SQL Server 2000 EE. Other servers which I want to access are 2000 and 2005 (vaious editions)
E.g I have another development server called PRODTEST which is SQL Server 2005 and on the development server I have created a linked server pointing to PRODTEST called TESTLINKSRV. I want to access new object catalog view (as I do not want to use sysobjects)
When I run the following query
SELECT * FROM [TESTLINKSRV].[DBNAME].[sys].[objects]
I get following error,
OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error: OLE DB provider does not contain the table: ProviderName=' TESTLINKSRV ', TableName='" DBNAME "."sys"."objects"'].
Msg 7314, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider ' TESTLINKSRV ' does not contain table '"DBNAME"."sys"."objects"'. The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table.
So I try this query
SELECT * FROM [TESTLINKSRV].[DBNAME].[sys.objects]
and I get following error
Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid object name TESTLINKSRV.DBNAME.sys.objects'.
So bottom line is how do I access catalog views on a 2005 server from a 2000 server using linked server?
I hope someone understands what I am trying to achieve. Please let me know what is it that I am doing wrong. Thank you
I was checking this site: http://www.aspfree.com/c/a/Microsoft-Access/Configuring-a-Linked-Microsoft-Access-Server-on-SQL-2005-Server/
and I do not know what parameters are neeed to do the following two. Configuring a Linked Microsoft Access Server on SQL 2005 Server - Linked Servers on SQL 2005 Server I would also like to know how to do it through this method as well.
Configuring a Linked Microsoft Access Server on SQL 2005 Server - Using the Management Studio to set up a Linked Server Sorry for the large typing I was using cut and paste to make sure I had everything correct.
I am working on a project that was written in Visual Studio 2003 using asp.net and C#. The project accesses a SQL Server 2000 database. I need to test the application. What I want to do is to copy the database over to a test server. The problem is that the test server only has SQL Server 2005 on it. Would it be a problem if I backed up the database using SQL Server 2000 and then recreated it on the server as a SQL server 2005 project? Would my source code accept the new database even though it would now be in sql server 2005?
Hi Friends, Can anybody help in introducing the YTD Concept:
My Table[ Monthly_Highlights_tb ] schema should contain like below: [Month] [Base_Amount] [YTD] APR-07 1000.00 1500.00 APR-07 500.00 1500.00 MAY-07 2000.00 3500.00 jUN-07 5000.00 8500.00
WHEN I run the below query:
UPDATE t SET t.ytd = (SELECT SUM(q.base_amount) FROM Monthly_Highlights_tb q WHERE q.[month] = t.[month] AND q.[month] <= t.[month]) FROM Monthly_Highlights_tb t
Dear all if i want to write one program use vc++2005 to connection access database with MFC system , which idea is best. does any sample code i can use in this case or any concept i can read it first?
I am working on a software system which create a database in SQL Server 2005 and then operate on this database. I want the database to be access only from the software system and not from the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. How can I achieve it?
I have used backup and restore method to upgrage 2000 databases to 2005 database. What do i need to do in order to for my application or users to use databse in 2005 and remove 2000
