I just installed SQL2005 (and VS2005). When I run VSSQLCLRTemplates.vsi from the SQLCLR Project all the templates fail to install. It gives the error "Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist. The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio."
I do have a my documentsvisual studio 2005 directory. I am trying to start writting user defined aggregates. If I can install the templates manually, that'd be fine.
I've tried looking for a solution in other threads but I couldn't find anything that was completely the same as my situation. I got a new pc at work and I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 on it but everytime I try to install it, regardless of services included or excluded with the install, I cannot get through the install without this error. Below is the excerpt from the Summary.txt log file.

I've searched for and found similar problems that deal with the microsoft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll not being found but I haven't found a fix that worked for me. These are the fixes I've refered to thus far.
The answer that seems to fix this problem for everyone is to set the MSDTC service login as the NT AUTHORITYNetworkService account. The problem for me is that this is already set to this profile and I've tried resetting the services and rebooting the machine. I did not have a problem with my old machine, which as far as I can tell, is the same configuration, so I know this install should work.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. This is not the upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP2, this is the original disk that came with Visual Studio 2005.
Has anyone else faced this issue where changing the MSDTC login wasn't the solution? Also, this is my first post, so I apologize if I've left anything out. Just let me know if you want any other information.
Folks:Cannot install SQL 2005 Express, I've done some searching but to no avail, I appreciate any help , I am administrator on this machine so I don't know why there would be a problem accessing a key...
Here is the log info:

I have been trying to install sql2kdesksp3 and am running into some problems. The initial install seems to go okay, even up to the point of issuing the Setup sapwd=password command-line command. However, when I try to install sql2kasp3 or sql2ksp3, a message appears saying that SQL 2000 is not installed.
I am on a XPPro SP1 desktop, with IIS 5.1 and .NET 1.1 Framework installed. Can anybody point me in the right direction to get MSDE installed?
I have been having terrible problems trying to install SQL Server Express on my laptop. This is so I can demo some products without an internet connection. If I try to install SQL Express using one of the Visual Studio products I get a message saying everything installed but the server portion is not there or running. If I try and install using just the SQL Express download then I get the following error:
SQL Server Setup has determined that the following account properties are not specified: 'AGTACCOUNT' . The properties specify the startup account for the services that are installed. To proceed, refer to the template.ini and set the properties to valid account names. If you are specifying a windows user account, you must also specify the password for the account.
I have tried to search for this error and all I have been able to find are references to the command line install. So I tried installing it from the command line using switch and ini configurations. I still get the same errors.
I also don't know if this is related or not but occasionally I also get a warning that my hardware is not sufficent to run the software. I look at the hardware requirements and my laptop meets or exceeds all of them (Pentium M, 1.86 Ghz, 512 M RAM, 40 Gb disk, XP SP2). The laptop is an IBM T43. All attempts were made on a clean install with nothing else loaded on the computer.
Any help would be appreciated. I am just about to give up on the whole project.
I am getting the following error when I try to install the September CTP on a Windows XP Pro box. The error is SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBinnetwcls.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an Installation of SQL Server 2005" or "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help documentation.
hi... i need help. i tried to install sql server 2000 on my laptop (WinXP os) and when i reach the form where im supposed to click "Install Database Server", the next form after clicking "Install Database Server" wont show, and there are no error messages. I tried everything i could but it didnt work. My last choice is to format my computer - but i dont want to do that.
there are two processes running on the background that has SQL in its name - SETUPSQL.EXE and SQLSTP.EXE. I think this shows that the setup is still running.

I have an SBS server that I tried to installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition for some testing/dev work (non-production server here) and although SQL installed, the reporting services component failed with the following.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Machine : RAND Product : Reporting Services Error : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting reporting service and share point exclusion path. The error is: Fatal error during installation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Machine : RAND Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Product Version : 9.1.2047.00 Install : Failed Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFilesSQLSetup0001_RAND_RS.log Last Action : InstallFinalize Error String : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting reporting service and share point exclusion path. The error is: Fatal error during installation. Error Number : 29528 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could use some help figuring that out...heh. I am able to shoot the entire log (the SQLSetup0001.RAND.RS.log) but it's like 10MB, and I didn't see a file upload option here. Any help is much appreciated though!
I have an issue with trying to install SQL 2005 standard on my XP machine. I get an .hta file that is not readable and when I btpass that I get a pop-up message: please go to the control panel to install and configure system components.
I have a problem with my SQL Server 2005 instance after trying to install SP2.
My machine has a default instance of SQL server 2005, and 2 instances of SQL 2005 express.
I installed Express SP2 and this installed without a hitch.
Then I installed SP2 for SQL Server 2005. After the install, all the components had installed correctly except the Database Engine, which had a status of failed. I did not investigate why, I simply re-ran the install.
It failed again, so I investigated further and I found out it failed because it had not been able to start the service VSS Writer. I looked at the service, and found I had changed the user which gives the service rights to start. I changed this back to Local System so the service could start correctly.
I then re-ran the SP2 install. This time it failed in a different place. The reason this time was my user was not a valid user for my server. This is a first, because I logged onto the database using this user name minutes before running the install. The install must have deleted my user. Then I tried to login using the sa account only for my server telling me that the sa account has been disabled.
I now cannot log into my database at all, and am stuck. If I try to rerun the install it tells me it cannot connect to the server to perform the update because there is no user.
Ran the SP2 locally on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 box that had SQL Server 2005 SP1 install on it. Problem was I ran out of C: drive and it failed in the middle of upgrading the server.
I'm unable to start the SQL Server at all now. Is there any way to back this out? Don't think I can reapply any patches since the service is dead.
Eventlog now shows: One or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from a backup.
The log shows it's unable to start SQL (blames it on permisions but it's because SQL can no longer start)

I'm guessing its reinstall time but not sure how the attached databases will like that idea.
Hi, I am trying to install Outlook 2007 and business contact manager which requiers SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I did install the Outlook but When it want to install the SQL server for business contact manager it fails to install. It installs the SQL native after that when it wants to install the SQL 2005 it fails here is the error:

SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information.
I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition 3 times now, from 2 different CDs. I keep failing with the same error message: "SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBinnetwcls.mof. I'm at a complete loss, but I am sure the error is something about the configuration with this computer. I have fond a couple of posts on other web sites where people have similar errors, but no feedback on the error or even ideas on what to look at.

Does anyone have an idea as to why the installation is failing?
TIA, Steve
P.S. Those aren't really smileys, they're actually semicolon Ds but I can't seem to get rid of the cartoon translation, even after checking the "This post contains a code sample" checkbox.

Hi, I am trying to lean ASP.NET. So I was trying to install SQL Server too. But, I could not install. The aleart box popped up:
"SQL Server set up cannot install files to the compressed or encrypted folder: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server"
Before this, I also got a warning that the hardware of my computer does not meet the hardware requirement.
I would like to know how I can install SQL Server into my computer. Or, shouldn't I do that? To learn ASP.NET I want to have a database ready. If I can not use SQL Server, I may try Access or something smaller...
I am currently reading Ralph Kimball's "The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit". In the book it mentions creating template packages to speed up the creation of future packages. In the book they also mention creating solutions and projects.
All sounds fair enough but I am confused a little.
Where should the template package be stored?! I created a Project and renamed the default package as "TemplatePackage". I setup some standard data sources and package variables. Do I now create a new package and place it in the same project? Or should my template package be deleted from the project?!
I installed, uninstalled, deleted, editted my registry etc and I finally goto to this error while trying to install VS2005 (released) on a Windows 2000 PC (that had Beta2 and RC1 installed & uninstalled):
I have tried to install Outlook 2007 with BCM and recieve the error listed above. I have also included a copy of my log file. Any suggestions?

Have run about six downlowds and all fail with same problem. The installer seems to be missing a file. all other parts of Viz studio Exp install but NOT the sql server exp.
Am I the only one getting this ? and if so what is the problem?. All other Visual Dev Express parts have instald OK.
Run on XP home SP2. As I posted this I noticed the compiler time stamp is 4 days ahead of real time ???

i hear of a feature called TEMPLATES where you can save the data thats entered into any particular Dynamics SL screen and paste the data in to the same screen at a later time (saves time if there is data that is constantly inputed into the same screen over and over). my question is, where are the templates saved at on the hard drive? and can it be opened/edited in notepad or something else if say we want to make changes to the data before pasting/loading it back?
I've created a new Stored Procedure template and saved it to .Microsoft SQL Server90ToolsShellTemplatesSqlStored Procedure. I can view (and use) the template via the Template Explorer, however, I want this new template to become my default template.
What do I mean by this? - I want to be able to right-click on stored procedures in my object explorer, click New Stored Procedure, and be forced to use my new template, rather than Create Procedure (New Menu).SQL.
I've got several templates that we use for creating stored procs and such and they all include a standard header for author and version information. One of the fields is the creation date. Is it possible to have the template automatically populate that field with the current date when a new file is generated from the template?
